Yggdrasil's Ace

Chapter 3

Author Notes: Wow...so many chapters have been written up yet, I've only uploaded up to chappy 3. Really thought it would be further at this point but considering all the typing i've been doing, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise. But enough stallin. I do not own Dragon Quest.

3rd P.O.V

It took awhile for him to feel anything that wasn't sheer-cold. His body twitched, feeling tingly all over as he cracked one of his eyes open. "So you mind explaining why you suddenly collapsed after touching that plant thing?" Ace blinked, his lips pursed in confusion before flinching awake.

Erik placed a cold cloth on his head, trying to bring down the teens fever before resettling in an old, rickety chair. "What happened?" A snort escaped the thief, but considering how bad a shape his friend's in, it'd be best if he clarified and jog the Luminary's memory. What just happened wasn't normal.

"We were exploring the Manglegrove remember? You stopped when we found this really huge plant that glowed. You touched it and went down on me. Had to lug you back to that abandoned cabin we found." Guilt struck as Ace tried to sit up, an apology on the tip of his tongue.

But a gentle hand pushed him back. Erik already well expecting it after traveling with him for the past few days. The swordsman was a well mannered sweetheart that really needed to stop blaming himself for things that were well out of his control. He was also incredibly stubborn.

Fortunately it looked like he was far too tired to try and push himself out of bed. Meaning Erik could keep a good eye on him, while getting answers. "Don't go saying sorry on me. Just tell me what that was. You were mumbling incoherent shit that I can't make heads or tails of."

With a soft groan Ace scraped loose hair strands away from his face. "I...I'm not sure what happened, but I think I had a vision." A bark startled the pair, it was the dog they saw before as they were walking.

"Fido here has been following me nonstop since I brought you back." As if confirming Erik's word, the canine barked again, it's tail wagging. Ace's heart sank with pity as he gently patted him on the head. "I know what was done to you. I cannot express my apologies enough." With determined eyes Ace sat up.

Removing the damp rag from his forehead. His companion was about to shove him back into bed but the next sentence stops him in his tracks. "Erik, this dog is the owner of this cabin-he was cursed after a tricky devil destroyed the bridge." The blue haired teen wanted to laugh.

It had to be a joke, but the serious tone and honest expression prevented him from doing so. He stared at the silver-blue orbs for eyes for a moment, checking to see if he lost his marbles from his illness.

"You're not pulling my leg? This rover here is our missing home owner?" He wants to say this shouldn't be a thing. But hell, he's seen some crazy shit. With this hero around, the impossible most definitely could be possible. "Yes. It was also the tricky devil that left those treasure chests we found empty."

Ace grinned seeing a twitch in calloused fingers. "Is that right?" Erik WAS wondering what the deal was with the lack of valuables to be found. It was actually irritating since he could sense treasure all throughout the area. He searched high and low throughout the dense forest...

Even if it wasn't a vision but a delirious fever dream, Erik was going to try finding the annoying little shit, if for nothing else than for playing such a nasty prank. "Ok, you got my attention...we'll head out and hunt the monster down. AFTER your fever breaks. Have some soup."

The Luminary pouts. He had hoped the treasure thing would convince Erik to let him out of bed so they can get on their way, but he supposed he would have to comply for now. Especially since he knew he was right.

He was still feeling awful after traveling so much with little rest. Looking down, he offers the cabin owner a soft smile. "I apologize for inhabiting your home for the time being." All Ace got was a huff in response. The dog lying down on the floor with shimmering eyes.

"Should write a book of this adventure, make a killing with it." That caused a small laugh from the ill traveler. His eyes lighting up at the mention. "Maybe we should have Gisella write it, considering all the amazing tales she had up her sleeve. It felt like I was back home for a moment."

That got Erik's attention as he rested his head on his arms. "What's it like? Cobblestone I mean. I'm trying to picture it from what Derk told me, but it's not sticking." A small hum is heard before Ace takes a sip of his soup.

His toes curled as the broth warmed him up. "Let's trade a story for a story to pass the time. I wanna hear more about your heists!" Erik couldn't help but snort at the glittering gaze on Ace's face. Guess he could play story-teller for a little while.

"Hey Ace-you shouldn't go near that plant again! What if you collapse? I won't be dragging your ass back no matter how light you are." Something was screaming at him to approach it, this time with Erik in toe. Why, he wasn't too sure.

But, it was that intense pull that had Ace see the vision of the woodcutter in the first place. So he reaches out. "Wh-whoa!" Just like before a bright light encircled the Luminary, but this time Erik and the dog that was still following them were closer.

This time Ace didn't pass out. And the thief was able to see the vision right alongside them, as if he was actually there. "Well I'll be dammed. I'm gladder every day I broke you out of that cell."

Now that he knew for a fact that things actually played out like Ace described...there was a playful little monster that was long due to get its ass kicked. "Alright Mr. Woodcutter, mind leading us to that there treasure chest?" Cracking his knuckles Erik eagerly follows after him, with Ace shaking his head with a laugh.

It not being long before they ran into the cheeky trickster...though it wasn't a much of a threat when it went down in only a few hits. "Where's the loot!?" Of course as if to spite Erik in passing...all the treasure he took faded away with him.

"Noooo!" As if it never existed. "I-i'm back to normal!" At least the woodsman could fix the damn bridge now.

to be continued

Author Notes: Honestly the fact that Erik didn't react to the lack of treasure bugged me lol. If it were me, i'd have wanted the goods that wretched imp took. But hey a dog is no longer a dog, and Ace is getting closer and closer to his home.

And we all know what that means~ Well...I know what that means hehe. Anyways that is it for now everyone. Thank you all so much for reading guys. If you like this story please feel free to fav/follow/review as it would mean a crap ton to me~ Tchao for now.
