Part 6

Caitlin parked in front of the Beacon Hills Animal Clinic and headed in after returning her sister's text. She noticed she had timed it the way she planned and headed in. She flipped the sign to closed and locked the door behind her. She approached the counter stopping noticing that it as well as the gate were made of mountain ash. The bell bought the man she came to see to the front.

"We're closed."

"I know Dr. Deaton. But I am hoping that we can talk. I mean we do share an old friend. Plus I have met your assistant." Said Caitlin

"Before I even consider letting you past the barrier mind showing me your eyes?"

"I am not the one who killed Laura Hale. I am sure you know it was her body that was found in the woods."

"Humor me."

Caitlin nodded and closed her eyes. When she opened them they glowed a bright gold. Alan Deaton nodded and opened the gate letting her through.

"I take it that it is Laura's death that brought you back here." Said Deaton

"Yes. Derek called me. She was like a big sister to me."

"She mentioned you when she came to see me. Said you are in your last year of medical school."

"Yes though I plan to go into research rather than practice. But that is not why I came to see you. It's about Scott McCall. He is going to need some guidance. Unfortunately it can't be me. My life is in Central City. I don't trust Derek to do it. He is a bigger pain then he was as a teenager. If that is at all possible."

"I will do what I can for Scott. What about you? I know there is pack in Central City. Are you going to ask the Alpha to join?"

"She offered to let me join when I first came to Central City. But I declined because I didn't want to betray Talia by joining a new pack. I think the offer may still be out there. But I am not sure I want a new pack right now. I think I will just be an Omega for now."

"That could be a dangerous choice. It could make you the target of hunters."

"There is only one hunter that knows what I am, and he is here looking for the Alpha that killed Laura. Besides he had me dead to rights a few months after the Hale fire. I had a rapist and murderer of young girls pinned to a wall of an ally and he let me go. Convince me not to rip the monster's throat out."

"Do you think Derek killed his sister?"

"He didn't. His eyes are still sapphire blue as they have been since he killed Paige to end her suffering from Ennis's bite."

"But you have an idea don't you?"

"I can't prove it. But yes. I plan to pay them a visit before I head home tomorrow."

"Are you going to tell me what you think?"

"Well it depends on what you can tell me. Would it be possible for a werewolf to pretend to be in waking coma when they are really fully awake?"

"It would be possible if they have mastered being able to control their reflexes and breathing to fool a doctor. Are you saying that you think it is Peter Hale?"

"He has always had his own agenda. He hated that Talia was the Alpha and picked Laura to succeed her. He was the one to convince Derek to have Ennis bite Paige leading to Derek killing the girl to end her suffering. Which led Gerard to set up Deucalion so he could blind him. Which made Deucalion form the Alpha pack. He is a master of manipulation."

"If you are right then there are a lot of people in danger."

"True. But at this point it would be about revenge. He won't stop until he kills the one that he holds responsible for the loss of his family."

"Any ideas on who that might be?"

"The woman who seduced a grieving teenage boy over his first love. Kate Argent. Of course I can't prove any of this. If I could I would go to the sheriff."

"Chris Argent is in town."

"I know. He and I have a sort of truce going. As long as I don't harm anyone he will leave me alone."

"You going to tell him what you suspect?"

"Not without proof. Unfortunately I am going to have to get back to Central City to finish my last year of medical school. Which should be done in a few weeks. I will try to get back here then. But I can't promise anything."

"Be careful. Talia saw a lot of promise in you."

"That was why she was so tough on me when teaching me control."

"She was always tough on those she felt were meant for great things."

Caitlin nodded and headed out. She knew that Talia had reasons for everything she did. But if asked she never would say what they were. As she got in the car she heard a wolf howl in the distance she resisted the urge she had to howl in reply. She was sure the Alpha knew she was in Beacon Hills. But there was no way that she was going to let him know that he had even a little bit of a poll over her. If she was right with what her gut was telling he about who the Alpha was she would never join him as a member of his pack. While she did want to find out who was responsible for the death of her pack, she wanted the law to handle it. Not the vengeance being handed out by this Alpha who would kill anyone who got in his way.

He watched from the shadows as the female wolf drove off after talking to the vet. He knew that she was too loyal to his late sister. That his killing Laura was the ultimate betrayal. He needed to get back to the hospital and get ready for her to visit. Not that he was going to let her know that he was awake. The timing wasn't right yet. But soon it will be.

Well there you go Caitlin will be confronting the Alpha in the next part. Let me know what you think.
