Chapter 22 Search and Destroy

The team was surprised to looked at Oobleck with stunned looks.

"Professor Oobleck?" Weiss said.

"Yes, I'm afraid those bags won't be necessary, girls, seeing as you've opted to shadow a Huntsman on what is now essentially a reconnaissance mission. I can assure you, we will not be establishing a single base of operations; rather, we will be traversing several miles of hazardous wasteland and making camp in any defendable locations we may stumble upon. I packed all of our essentials myself, plotted our air course, and readied the airship. And..." He zooms up to Weiss. "It's Doctor Oobleck. I didn't earn the PhD for fun, thank you very much!" He backs away.

Weiss looks at Blake. "Uh..."

"Come now, children; according to my schedule, we are already three minutes behind! ...schedule!" He zooms towards the airship.

Ruby looks at her team. "Well, alright, then! Looks like we're going to save the world with Doctor Oooobleck- okay yeah when you say it out loud it sounds worse."

"Save the world?"

Thet saw team JNPR going up to them.

"You're going on world-saving missions without us? I'm hurt... sad!" Nora's stomach rumbles. "Maybe a little hungry? That last one's not your fault, though, Ren..."

Ren crosses his arms and looks away.

"Sounds exciting. Where ya going?" Jaune asked.

"Oh, just outside the kingdom..." Ruby said.

"Hey! So are we!" Nora said.

"Ren and Nora wanted to shadow the sheriff of a nearby village." Pyrrha said.

"We set out tomorrow." Ren said.

"Well how surprising." Haru said.

"Then you can party with us tonight!" They saw Neptune Vasilias and Sun Wukong approach them with Neptune saying: "We're shadowing a crime specialist. All inner-city detective stuff. We get junior badges."

"We normally go to the city with you guys, which means stuff's always exploding and junk, so we thought this might be a better way to check out the kingdom when it's, you know... normal." Sun said.

Haru looks at the professor. "Okay, let's go before he starts to complain."

"Right, see ya guys." Ruby said and they went to the airship.

With Ozpin

He was at his office with Ironwood and Glynda.

"Do you really think that boy has a chance?" Ironwood said.

"He's one of the best warriors we can ask for, i'm not forcing him but Haru has immense potential for him to grow." Ozpin said.

"But how can you trust him? He's a magic user like her." Ironwood said.

"He's still a child, he just wants to protect his friends showing that he has a good heart." Glynda said.

Watching them from a window was Balan and he chuckles.

"They don't know Haru like I do, he will make miracles happen with the hope he brings." He said.

He flies up and looks at the airship that was leaving.

"Go on Haru, and show them all the final hope of the world." He raises his hands.

Inside the airship

The group were inside waiting for the trip to end.

Yang looks at Oobleck. "I guess I just never saw you as much of a fighter."

"I admit I fancy myself more of an intellectual, but I can assure you, as a Huntsman, I've had my fair share of tussles." He said.

Ruby tilts her head. "Like the mushroom?"

Haru facepalms and Blake leans towards Ruby. "Those are truffles"

"Like the sproud?" Ruby said.

"Those are brussels." Yang said.

"Ruby, just don't say anything." Haru said making her pout.

"Besides, given my expertise in the field of history as well as my dabblings in the archaeological surveys, our dear headmaster saw fit to assign me to this particular... assignment!" Oobleck said.

"What does history have to do with this?" Weiss asked.

He looks at her. "Why, what a preposterous question, you silly girl! Why, history is the backbone of our very society! And the liver! Probably the kidneys, if I were to wager."

"And that means..?" Weiss said.

"The southeast quadrant outside of Vale is home to wild forests and deep caves, but it is also the location to one of the kingdom's greatest failures!" Oobleck said.

"Mountain Glenn." Haru said.

"That's right! It was an expansion of Vale... but in the end it was overrun by Grimm and fenced off from the rest of the city." Yang said.

"Correct! And now it stands abandoned as a dark reminder." Oobleck said.

"And a likely place for a hideout." Blake said.

"Precisely." Oobleck smiles.

Haru thinks about it, he can't let this happen to anymore places since it would make people suffer and he won't allow that to ever happen again.

The airship comes in over a spot of street amidst the ruined buildings and structures of the ruined area. It hovers right above the ground and the group jumped off with the team getting they're weapons ready while Ooblock just has his coffee.

The airship flies off and Haru looks around to see the damage that has been done here.

Oobleck gets they're attention. "Ladies and gentleman! You still may be students, but as of this moment, your first mission as Huntresses has begun! From this point forward, you need to do exactly as I say! Do you understand?"

They nodded and Oobleck noticed she still has her bag making her nervous. "Ruby! I thought I told you to leave all of your bags back at school."

Haru then thinks: Why did she bring it, also good thing I can use my rings to summon any stuff I want.

"But, uh, you hadn't told us to listen to you yet. So I didn't." Ruby said.

Ooblecks ponders that. "She's not wrong... Very well, Ruby; leave your bag here, we can pick it up upon our return."

"But I, well uh-" She got worried.

"Young lady, what in the world could you possibly have in that bag that could be so important to bring it with..." Oobleck then saw Zwei come out of the bag.

"What?! You brought Zwei!" Haru said.

"Get back in the bag." Ruby whispers to him but he barks in response.

"We're here to investigate an abandoned urban jungle teeming with death and hostility, and you brought... a dog?" Oobleck said.

Ruby couldn't think of something. "I, uh..."

"Genius!" Oobleck backs off before taking Zwei making her tumble to the ground. "Canines are historically known for their perceptive nose and heightened sense of sound, making them excellent companions for a hunt such as ours!"

Ruby recovered. "I'm a genius!"

Haru, Weiss and Yang facepalmed seeing that.

"So, what are your orders, Doctor?" Blake asked.

"Ah, yes, straight to the chase; I like it!" He drops Zwei down. "As you've been informed, the southeast area has been marked as a recent hot spot for Grimm activity. Now, there are several possible explanations for this behavior, one of which being... Grimm."

They got confused and Ruby said: "Uh, what?"

"Grimm. A creature of Grimm approximately one hundred yards from us at this very moment." He said.

Haru looks back and saw a Beowulf wandering the streets.

The girls took they're weapons out but Haru stops them. "Stop."

"What?" Blake said.

"If theres more you'll alert them." Haru said.

"Very good." Oobleck said. "There are a number of reasons why Grimm will congregate in this particular area, the most likely of which will be their attraction to negativity: sadness, envy, loneliness, hatred. All qualities that are likely held by our hidden group harboring ill intent."

"So... What now?" Ruby asked.

"We wait. We track. If this specimen leads us to its pack, that pack may subsequently lead us to our prey." Oobleck said.

"How long do we wait?" Blake said.

"It's uncertain. Hours, days, weeks. Why, lone Grimm have been known to stay isolated from the pack for months - and there's the whole pack." Oobleck said.

They saw a entire pack growling at them.

"Now you can fight!" Haru takes out his sword.

The team charged foward, Weiss stabs many of them, Ruby shoots many of them and slashes some with her scythe, Yang punches them many times, Blake moves around slashing the Grimm too and Haru moves around doing cartwheels before shooting many of them down.

After they were killed they regrouped and Ruby smiles. "Piece of cake."

"Do not celebrate yet, for I am certain this is the first bout of many. Shall we continue?" Oobleck said.

They continued but Haru noticed a black wand on the ground and he pulls it out.

"Huh?" He stares at it since it could be useful for later.

Later

The group had to fight more Grimm as Oobleck watched and they finished the last ones.

"Excellent work, students! Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any signs of criminal operations in this sector. Oh, well! Moving on!" He walks away.

They followed him and Yang said: "Hey, Doc, y'know, I was actually looking forward to seeing a "pro Huntsman" in action. Like, fighting, or at least, helping us fight?"

"Ah, but I am in action! Scouring the ruins of this once-great city for any signs of irregularity! Not every mission is filled with daring and heroism, girls. Sometimes it's just a heightened form of extermination! Remember, this is a job, and you all signed up for it. I do hope you understand that." He said.

They nodded and continued.

Ruby looks at Haru. "Hey Haru, I wonder, did you ever got your semblance unlocked?"

"What? Oh no never got aura." He said.

"What?!" Weiss got shocked. "You've been fighting and competing with us without aura?!"

"I had magic, what did you expect it made me more durable." He shrugs it off.

"Oh yeah." Blake said. "But wouldn't be good if you did."

"Well who the heck am I going to get to do that?" Haru goes foward.

Later

Haru was looking around and he saw Oobleck go up to him.

"Professor?" He said.

"I was wondering, what is your reason to be a Hunstman?" He asked Haru.

Haru thinks about it. "I just want to help others, to be a hope to many that they won't have to be afraid of what there is."

Oobleck sees that Haru is being sincere and nodded. "It's nice to see someone with a pure goal."

Haru smiles.

After that Ruby is using her weapon in the most practical fashion and lifting a whole turkey on the sharp end of her gun to tease a jumping and flipping Zwei with.

She then saw Oobleck watching making her put Crescent Rose back. "Sorry! Uh... Are we ready to keep going?"

"Nope! I believe that will have to do for today. It's going to be dark soon." He throws his bag over to Yang." You four, set up camp in that building. Oh, and please do make sure there are no more of those... creatures. Your leader and I are going to secure the perimeter. Come, Ruby."

She goes with him and Haru goes to make a fire with two sticks.

"Hey can't you just use your magic to make a fire?" Yang asked.

"If you want to be lazy." Haru said.

"Hey." She felt insulted.

He chuckles and looks at the wand he got, he wonders what it can do, he'll just have to see about it later.

Note: Heres Search and Destroy with a few extra scenes, Haru found a item here and if you can have a guess your more than welcome, now to answer a review: "Guest-zx i'll have to think, Guest those spells wouldn't work well as Haru uses wings, also being rude, how would you feel if someone were to spam five of the same review to try and irritate the person to make something they want, as not all ideas are good for my stories in fact they can be bad, I am not being rude it's called honesty, I can't lead a person saying oh I might do something i'll never do, that's even worse than rude, as a bad a idea is still a bad idea.
