Our heroes continue on with their journey. At the moment, they've stopped for lunch next to a lovely lake.

"Wait until you try Cletus' cooking. It will be great, Terra, since his family owns a restaurant." Davis claimed.

"Really? That sounds like it's a lot of fun." Terra claimed.

"It can be sometimes, but the best part is the food." Cletus claimed. "Better let the other Pokemon out to join in. Krookodile, Grindr, Herdier; time to eat!" He called as he released all his Pokémon.

"Great idea." Davis said as he and Terra released Pocub and Bluja. They were all set for lunch, but none of them noticed that there was something watching them, hiding in plain sight.

I want to be the very best

To catch them is my real test

(Davis' voice): Eyes on the Prize

"Davis, can you grab some firewood?" Cletus asked.

"Got it." Davis said as he walked over to tree and tried to grab some wood. Just as he was about to pull some off a tree, something shot out and whipped his hand. "Ow! Who did that?!"

"What's wrong?" Terra asked.

"Something hit my hand." Davis complained. "Whoever is there better come out!" All of them looked to see who was there and soon saw a familiar pokemon coming out.

"Chamleaf!"

"Wow! It's a Chamleaf!" Terra said. "That's one of the Pokemon new trainers can choose from here."

"That's a Chamleaf?" Davis questioned as he pulled out his Pokédex on it.

"Chamleaf, the Leaf Chameleon Pokemon. A grass-type. Chamleaf are capable of changing their colors to match the surrounding vegetation. Their eyes can also see in different directions to help its aim."

"Chamleaf cham!"

"It's saying that we should leave now." Imperialdramon translated.

"Leave? What for?" Terra questioned. Suddenly, Chamleaf attacked as it used Razor Leaf and tried attacking them. Chamleaf even stretched out its tongue and lashed it against all of them.

"I don't know what your deal is, but you made a mistake!" Davis claimed. "Bluja! Imperialdramon! Get it!"

"Come here!" Imperialdramon said as he tried to attack, but Chamleaf attacked him with a glowing green tough. Bluja tried attacking, but Chamleaf attacked Bluja as well.

"That's a strong Power Whip." Cletus acknowledge. Just then, Chamleaf turned around and dived under the bushes.

"Hey! You can't just cut and run like that!" Davis called as he tried to go after Chamleaf, but Chamleaf changed colors and Davis couldn't see a thing. "Where is it? It couldn't have gotten far."

"Chamleaf are capable of changing their colors to match the plant life around them. It won't be easy to spot." Cletus said.

"Why would a Chamleaf attack us like that? Why did it want us to leave?" Terra questioned.

"Oh dear... Are you kids okay?" They all turned around and met an elderly lady with her hair in a bun and wore a peach-colored dress. "Let me guess. You were just attacked by a Chamleaf, weren't you?" She knows about it? She might be able to give them answers.

...

A Cabin

After meeting with the kind old lady, she took them back to her cabin just further down the lake. Once there, she treated all of them to some tea.

"Here. Drink up." She offered.

"Thank you, Mara. That's very nice of you." Cletus said as they all had some tea.

"It's the least I can do since Chamleaf attacked you poor kids." Mara said. "I'm terribly sorry about that. It only did that because of me."

"So does that mean Chamleaf is your pokemon?" Terra asked.

"No. That Chamleaf is a wild." Mara claimed. "It all started jus months ago..." She said as she remembered it well. "One day, Chamleaf came walking in to this area, but the poor thing was terribly injured. I nursed it back to health and took care of it. Chamleaf was so grateful that it decided to stay. It was rather nice since it does get rather lonely around here."

"So, Chamleaf has been helping you out?" Davis questioned.

"Yes. It really is a sweet thing. However, there is a problem, as you have probably seen." Mara said. "Chamleaf acts like a bodyguard, and takes it rather serious. It just attacks anyone, people or pokemon, that just come around here. It's being a little...overprotective."

"I guess that's what it meant when it wanted us to leave." Terra said. "Did something happen that made Chamleaf like this?"

"No. At least, not that I can think of." Mara claimed.

"It could be just simply out of loyalty and gratitude." Cletus said. "Chamleaf probably just wants to show how much it appreciated your help."

"Chamleaf sure sounds like one loyal and tough pokemon to take on all opponents like that." Davis said as he seemed interested in Chamleaf. "Still, Chamleaf can't just go around and attacking others like this. I think it's time to have a talk."

"You'll have to keep a sharp eye open." Mara said. "Chamleaf doesn't just change color. It also knows Camouflage. That makes hiding quite easy for Chamleaf." Davis understood that and got to looking.

Chamleaf

Chamleaf continued to do its job. Any Pokémon in the immediate area, Chamleaf just simply attacked. It's understandable that Chamleaf would like to help Mara, but this isn't the way to go at it. In fact, as Chamleaf was attacking a few pokemon to chase them away, one was watching from the trees and the shine in its eyes said that it wants Chamleaf to go down.

"Chamleaf!" Chamleaf heard Mara's voice and stopped the attacks with the pokemon running off. "There you are, Chamleaf." Chamleaf was glad to see her again, but then spotted Davis and the others with her. When he saw them, Chamleaf attacked with Power Whip. He aimed right at Davis, but Imperialdramon and blocked the attack.

"Knock it off!" Imperialdramon said.

"We just want to talk. That's all." Davis said. "We heard about what you do. It's great that you want to help out Mara, but you might be going at it all wrong."

"It's true Chamleaf. You just need to try and calm down." Mara said. Chamleaf trusted Mara and was willing to listen.

"Mandi!" Just then. A Mandibuzz came out from the trees and snatched Chamleaf right off the ground.

"Chamleaf!" Davis called and hurried after them.

"Who's that pokemon?!" Terra questioned and used her pokedex.

"Mandibuzz, the Bone Vulture Pokemon. A dark and flying type, and the evolve form of Vullaby. They have a habit of taking bones and decorating themselves with them."

"Don't know what you're thinking of doing with Chamleaf, but it's not happening!" Imperialdramon said as he flew up and got right over Mandibuzz. He used Focus Punch and smashed his fist right against Mandibuzz and knocked her out of the sky.

"I've got you Chamleaf!" Davis called as he hurried over and was able to catch Chamleaf. "You okay?" It looked like Chamleaf was unharmed.

"Thats a relief, but what was that about?" Terra questioned.

"Uh... Guys..." Cletus alerted. They all had a look around and saw some angry pokemon.

"Oh dear... What is all this?" Mara questioned as this looked uneasy. That was Mandibuzz pulled herself together and started talking.

"Oh boy... All of these pokemon are ones that Chamleaf has attacked and they're looking for some payback." Imperialdramon claimed.

"I was afraid of this." Mara said. "It looks like all of Chamleaf's hard work has only brought trouble." Mara said with concern. All of the pokemon looked ready to attack and Chamleaf wasn't sure it could fight this off.

"Hold it!" Davis said as he got between all of them. "Chamleaf had no bad intentions. It was just trying to do something nice for Mara, to show gratitude since Mara was the one that helped Chamleaf when it was hurt. Sure, it got out of hand, but Chamleaf isn't bad. There's really no need to fight like this." Davis tried reasoning with Chamleaf impressed with Davis when Davis seemed against Chamleaf earlier.

"Maybe we should go." Terra suggested.

"Good idea. Grab Chamleaf and let's go." Cletus said. Davis agreed with him grabbing Chamleaf and all of them getting out of there. Chamleaf has really caused some trouble when it was just trying to do good.

...

Mara's Cabin

"Well, that could have gotten ugly. We were lucky they didn't attack." Terra said.

"Yeah. I know what it's like to run in head first, Chamleaf." Davis said. "It tends to make a mess, and that was a mess." Chamleaf really didn't like this, and feels so bad for causing trouble when it just wanted to help. "Now what? What if something like this happens again?"

"Yes, it could be a problem, but I think I know what to do." Mara said. "Perhaps it might be best if Chamleaf goes with you."

"Huh? Are you sure?" Davis questioned as Chamleaf certainly didn't want to leave.

"Yes. I think it would do Chamleaf some good. It will allow Chamleaf to have some discipline, and Chamleaf clearly loves to battle." Mara claimed. "It's very loyal, and I'm sure would make a great addition to your team. With how you stood up for Chamleaf, I'm sure Chamleaf would be very happy with you."

"It certainly would ensure nothing like this happens again." Cletus said.

"What do you think, Chamleaf?" Davis said. Chamleaf thought it over. It certainly wouldn't want to leave Mara, but maybe this is for the best. That's why Chamleaf agreed to this. "Great, but we have a little score to settle first." Wanting to see what Chamleaf is fully capable of, it and Imperialdramon stood facing each other for a battle. "Let's see what you've got! Brick Break, Imperialdramon!"

"Here I..." Imperialdramon didn't finish as Chamleaf used Lick and paralyzed Imperialdramon for a moment. After that, Chamleaf used Razor Leaf with it making a clear hit.

"Not bad. Chamleaf stopped Imperialdramon with Lick and attacked with Razor Leaf." Cletus said. Chamleaf didn't stop there as it used Power Whip and kept lashing against Imperialdramon.

"With chamleaf's eyes, its accuracy is incredible. It will be difficult to dodge." Mara claimed.

"If we can't dodge, we'll just stop it. Grab that tongue!" Davis called a surprising ordered. Imperialdramon fought through the lashes and grabbed Chamleaf by the tongue. "Focus Punch!" Imperialdramon pulled Chamleaf in and gave Chamleaf a powerful strike that knocked it away. "Dragon Pulse!" Imperialdramon unleashed the dragon blast and that seemed to be the finish. "Go, pokeball!" He tossed the ball and it hit Chamleaf with Chamleaf going in.

"Is that it? Chamleaf now belongs to Davis?" Terra questioned.

"We have to wait for the ball to stop moving." Cletus said. They all waited patiently until the ball finally dinged.

"Oh yeah!" Davis claimed as he got his new friend. "We just got Chamleaf!"

"Oh yeah!" Imperialdramon cheered.

"Nice work, Davis." Cletus said.

"Wow! So that's what catching a Pokémon is really like!" Terra said as she was amazed.

"Davis, promise you'll take good care of Chamleaf." Mara asked.

"I will." Davis promised.

After meeting a good yet troubling pokemon, Davis gains a new friend and a new addition to his team. With Chamleaf joining the team, our heroes continue on with their journey.
