Once Thumbelina had chosen her favorite night dress and prepared herself for bed, it took her a long time to fall asleep. She kept replaying the splendor of the night within her mind. She also kept playing with the ring Cornelius had given her.
It's the same green as his eyes!
Finally, she fell asleep with a grin on her face.
It was several hours before the shadow crept through the open window. It warily eyed the dog asleep on the floor as it made its way towards the doll house. The phantom paused at the sight, baffled like Cornelius had originally been. It wound its way up the stairs towards the quarter where Thumbelina slept in her walnut bed.
The figure carefully and silently shut the lid of the bed. It then wrapped the walnut in rope to keep it from opening along with making it easier to drag. A quick tug sent Thumbelina snug in her walnut thumping down the stairs.
The sound woke both the girl and the dog.
Thumbelina shot out of bed, grunting as she hit her head on the innards of the walnut. She pressed upwards to open it but to no avail. The girl began to panic.
"Hero? Hero! Something happened to the walnut! Hero?"
The faithful hound was already in action, growling as he advanced on the intruder attempting to abduct his charge.
"Good luck catching these legs, perro!" The figure darted towards the open window before Hero blocked their way.
A chase around the room ensued, many things being knocked over or destroyed in the process - including Thumbelina's doll house. Hero became tangled up in the table cloth from Mother's sitting table along with the debris of the doll house. The shadow took advantage of the dog's slip up and made for the window.
Hero continued barking as the intruder reopened the window and leapt outside, taking the walnut with them.
Thumbelina was gone.
