Chapter 2: Once upon a time, yet again
It was a snowy Winter's Day in Amity Park.
Christmas has already passed, and many students were enjoying their vacation from school.
Many were either going on trips or enjoying themselves at home with their families. Right now, this story focused on a group of people that were doing the former.
A limousine was on its way to Mount Amity, and right behind it was an expensive looking sports car and a large high tech looking RV. After a while of driving, the cars soon arrived at the Mount Amity Ski Resort.
Near it was a very fancy and expensive looking mountain chalet.
Soon, someone stepped out of the limousine. It was Stella Bevier, dressed in an expensive new purple snowsuit and holding her giggling baby son in her arms, who was also dressed adorably in appropriate winter wear.
"Here we are!..."Stella declared happily as the other people stepped out of their vehicles.
It was her ex-husband and daughter, along with her daughter's boyfriend and his family.
"So...this is the place, Mom?..."Star said, as she saw a huge mountain chalet not that far away from the ski resort.
It was a tall, expensive looking mountain chalet that was three stories tall, and basically screamed that it belonged to rich people. It was almost like seeing a way over the top mansion, but with a rustic motif, almost like a log cabin that was built for royalty.
"Isn't it just fabulous? It just screams fun time all around..." Stella said cheerfully as she opened the door and invited everyone inside.
Inside the chalet was even more expensive and glamorous looking. It had everything from fancy furniture, paintings, state of the art appliances, hot tubs, a nice fireplace and so much more.
"So, what made you want to buy a chalet at Mount Amity all of a sudden?..."Johnathan had to ask, sounding unimpressed.
He was never one to be taken aback by money and everything he saw screamed "over the top", so he was genuinely curious to know the reasoning behind his ex-wife's most recent purchase.
"Oh, long story short...I saw this place for sale, and I fell in love with it at first sight, so I just couldn't resist. And we needed a little getaway for the Holidays and my older brother said that places like these are a sound investment..."Stella explained.
"He also said that when not in use, I can just rent it so other people can enjoy the place and its surroundings but that won't be for a while. This place is all mine...and like I said, it's just fabulous..."The rich woman said, as she placed Pierre in a playpen, and he began exploring his new surroundings.
"And the reason you kept insisting on inviting me and Star here? Along with Danny's family? Even though I still have a lot of work to do?..."Her ex asked, while Stella waved it off.
"Oh, come on Johnathan. What happened to your sense of fun?..."Stella asked, hands on her hips.
"It went with my sense of warmth once I was hit with the freezing weather..."Jonathan snarked. "Good thing I had some winter clothing in the closet otherwise, I wouldn't be here..."He muttered.
"Seriously? What happened to your adventurous side?..." Stella asked.
"Simple. I grew out of my college phase..."Jonathan said, while Star sighed at her parents' antics.
"Some things never change, do they?..." She thought, while her mother kept nagging her dad.
"I know for a fact that your law firm gives time off, and I also know that you hold the record for the most unused vacation days in your law firm's history..."Stella said.
"Hey, don't exaggerate. I do happen to take time off, and you know it. I just prefer saving that for very special occasions or family emergencies..."JoHnathan said.
"Well then...since there are no family emergencies in sight, consider this a special occasion. Besides, a workaholic like you NEEDS an early well-deserved rest. Before you keel over from overwork..."Stella said, while her ex rolled his eyes at her dramatics and knew at least one reason why she insisted on this trip.
"You just really wanted to show off this place to as many people as possible. Admit it..."Jonathan snarked.
"I admit nothing. Plus, I wasn't wrong about you needing time off. You can't stay all your waking hours working, that's no way to live. You're even starting to gain bags under your eyes and everyone here could easily notice it. Even my little Pierre can point it out. Don't try and deny it, we can all see them on your face.." Stella said as she literally pointed at his face.
"I do not..."Johanthan said, while he turned to his daughter. "Right?..."He asked.
"Um...well... it's not as if they're noticeably under the right light dad, it's just that…" Star said uneasily, unsure how to answer.
Her father seemed surprised, while Stella smirked.
"Told say so. You're not as young as you used to be and even if you are supposed to be the top lawyer in town, it won't kill ya to take it easy and have some relaxing time. Besides, I am pretty sure your law firm can survive a few days without you there...especially since I'm 99% sure that most of them are using their vacation days as well. No one ever works during Christmas or after Christmas for that matter... "Stella added, while her ex sighed, knowing she had a point.
"She really wants to have her way. Whatever, at least Solene managed to get time off too. That's something..." He thought to himself, while his ex-wife kept showing off her chalet to her guests.
Danny and Star shared a worried stare, and both let out a sigh at the latter's parent's light bickering, while Danny's parents looked around the expensive chalet and needless to say they weren't comfortable being on a lodge that undoubtedly costs WAY more than their entire house, even if they were amazed by how luxurious everything is.
"I think this place dwarves where we had our honeymoon..." Jack muttered to his wife.
"To be fair, Jack you promised me a lake house and you didn't let me down..." Maddie replied with a smile. "Granted it wasn't haunted like we hoped but we still had a pretty good time..."She said, holding his hand.
"And how..." Jack said before he kissed his wife lovingly.
Something that made their children cringe with embarrassment.
"Ew! Gross!..." Jazz muttered.
"This is so not what I want to see...Or hear my parents talk about their honeymoon ever..." Danny thought as his parents kept acting lovey dovey in front of them.
Once Star saw her embarrassed boyfriend, she came to the rescue by giving him a kiss on the cheek, something that made his feel less embarrassed.
"Thanks, Starlight..."Danny said, feeling a little better now.
"Anytime, Boo..."Star said, smiling sweetly at him.
Jazz rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.
"Great, if it's not my parents, I'm going to see my brother making out with his girlfriend..." Jazz thought a bit annoyed.
"Kinda bites being the only Fenton without someone..." She thought semi-bitterly as she tried to ignore the couples by grabbing one of her psychology books from her bag and began reading it.
Stella also saw the teens affectionate moment and couldn't help but gush by it.
"Oh, so cute! They really do make an adorable couple..." The blonde woman thought in approval.
Stella then guided everyone to the kitchen, where she both showed off the state-of-the-art appliances and made everyone expensive gourmet hot cocoa as well.
"Here we are everyone. Drink up. Enjoy it while it's hot. I also packed some marshmallow of every size, in case anyone wanted some..."Stella said cheerfully as she handed everyone their drinks and then gave Pierre a bottle of warm milk.
"Thanks mom..."Star said, as she took a mug of it and added some small marshmallows in it.
Jack immediately grabbed the bag filled with jumbo sized marshmallows for his hot cocoa, while both Maddie and Jazz placed mini marshmallows in their drinks. While they all began to enjoy the tasty beverage, a certain ghost boy wanted to make sure about another fact.
"And you are sure that Jean-Pu...I mean...Jean-Luc and Colette won't be here this week?..." Danny asked, wanting to be sure.
Stella nodded, getting out of her train of thoughts.
Yes, unfortunately. Jean-Luc has some business all week and couldn't make it. Plus, he hates the cold and decided it was in his best interest to stay behind. Also, Colette is grounded for the huge mess she caused during the Holidays and her grounding won't end until school starts..." Stella explained.
"Thank goodness..." Everyone thought simultaneously, not wanting those two nearby as they knew the father and daughter would be nothing short of an absolute misery to have around.
"Anyway, we should head to our rooms back at the ski resort. We were supposed to check in five minutes ago..." Johnathan said, glancing at his watch.
"Are you all sure you guys don't wanna stay in the chalet? It's big and we have more than enough rooms here..."Stella offered. "There are actually ten rooms in fact, five bathrooms, along with a hot tub, fully stocked pantry, indoor mini fridges in each room, big screen TV's and plenty more..."Stella said, but everyone else thought she was bragging.
"Stella, we appreciate the thought, but we wouldn't want to impose..." Maddie said, while mentally adding.
"Plus, Jack and I don't feel comfortable to be around this kind of atmosphere, reminds me too much of Vlad and his own ostentatious place in the Colorado..." She mentally added, still holding a grudge about a certain incident there that she didn't want to recall.
"Also, I don't think it would be appropriate for me to stay under the same roof as my ex-wife, even if we are getting along. Plus, Solene will be here tomorrow, and we have our own rooms that we rented..." Johnathan said.
Stella frowned as soon as she heard that woman's name but soon tried to hide it with a fake smile.
"Oh, right. How silly of me...' Stella said, feeling a pang on her heart.
Solene had been at Johnathan's house when she had suggested making this trip and surprisingly, the female lawyer thought it would be a good idea. She was apparently the main reason Johanthan went along with it in the end. Stella did not have the heart to tell her that she didn't know she was there...and hadn't initially intended to give her an invitation but it's all right.
It will be fine...her, Johnathan, Star, Pierre, Danny and his family having a nice family trip together...with Solene too.
"Why do I feel like this?..." She thought, confused.
"Mom?..."Star asked, making Stella snap out of her thoughts.
"Oh...uh...as I was saying...uh...let's just finish the cocoa first and then you guys go check in..."Stella said in a frantic way, smiling nervously as she hoped no one knew what she had been thinking.
Everyone looked at her funny but ignored it and went back to drinking their cocoa before they left for the ski resort. Which wasn't far away from Stella's chalet.
Present Time
"Why am I not surprised your mom really wanted to show off?..." Sam commented with an eye roll.
"True...she might have wanted to brag a bit...but between all of us, I think the real reason she insisted on all of us going was because she didn't want to go alone. What with her stupid husband Jean-Puke and that spoiled brat being unable to go and Eleanor visiting her family in Europe during the holidays...Mom really just wanted some company...though she'd never admit that around my dad..." Star said, knowing her mother better than she expected.
"Yeah, Mrs. Bevier is way more transparent than she thinks she is. I mean even my brother who is clueless could see that..."Jazz commented.
"Why does everyone keep calling me that? Since when have I ever been clueless?..." Danny asked, confused.
No one bothered to give the halfa an answer. The ghost boy frowned in annoyance at their silence.
"Seriously. Why is no one answering me?..."Danny said, still receiving no answer while Star continued with the story.
Back to the story
Our heroes were now at the ski resort and their respective families had checked in. They were now outside and were impressed by the place. After settling into their respective rooms, they saw the sights and all that this place had to offer.
"Man, this place sure is huge!..." Jazz said, as she looked around in awe.
"Too bad Tucker and Sam couldn't join us..." Danny said, since they had their own plans.
"You know that Sam is going to spend Hanukkah with her relatives, and Tucker told us that he and his folks are visiting his grandparents in Florida and won't be back until school starts again..." Star reminded her boyfriend.
"I know, doesn't mean I wish they were here..." Danny said. "Especially since I know Sam isn't going to have an enjoyable time with her parents and Tucker is going to have to handle being at his grandparents' house and last, I heard they don't have Wi-Fi and are extremely old fashion..."He said.
"Oh, Tucker's gonna have a hard time getting used to that..." Jazz commented dryly.
"No kidding. He's probably missing his PDA right now, even as we speak..."Star said.
"Eh...maybe we should give him some more credit. I mean...he's survived without it before, I'm sure he'll do it again somehow..."Danny said, unaware that his best friend wasn't handling the lack of technology during his family winter break all that well.
Present Time
"You guys have no idea what it was like..."Tucker muttered, interrupting the story.
"I mean...I love my grandma and grandpa...I do and it was nice hanging out with them...but why do they have to be the only people I know who still live like it's the early twentieth century..."He complained.
"Uh...Tuck..."Danny said, while the tech geek realized what he did.
"Oh...uh...sorry..."Tucker said sheepishly, sending an apologetic smile.
"Whatever you went through, I'd prefer going through that over having to deal with my parents going even crazier trying to make me wear the lousy dresses they bought me using my mom's relatives as an excuse...but at least grandma managed to cheer me up with her gifts..."Sam said, glad that her grandmother had given her gifts that she actually liked.
"What happened to the chipper Sam who only appears for the Holidays?..."Danny quipped.
"There is a MAJOR difference between being nice for the holidays and surrendering my individuality. Something my parents STILL don't understand..."Sam said, arms crossed and was still bitter given what has recently happened between them.
The blonde understandably gave the goth a sympathetic look, but Sam did not want to be pitied.
"Anyway, just continue with the story..."Sam said, preferring to listen to that than talk about her folks.
Her friends sighed, knowing she will talk when she is ready to.
"As Danny and I were saying...we had just checked in the ski resort after my mom spent a long time bragging and showing off her new chalet..." Star said, as she continued to tell the story.
Back to the story
Danny, Star and Jazz were in the lobby, marveling over everything the resort has to offer.
Just like Stella's chalet, the ski resort is nice, having a lot of luxuries and amenities. The resort has nice rooms, room service, hot tubs, a first-class spa, great restaurants and even a nice daycare as well. There were even some vending machines filled to the brim with nice snacks and drinks and there was even a fireplace that Danny hoped to cuddle with Star in front of after fun on the slopes.
"Look at this. This place offers everything. They have skiing, ice skating, snowboarding, sleigh rides, ice sculpting, ice hockey, curling, ice climbing, ice fishing and even snowmobile racing..." Star counted in excitement.
"Oh man, I don't know where to begin..."Jazz said.
"I do...for my first couples vacation with my favorite girl..." Danny said as he sent a flirty look to Star.
Star blushed and returned it.
"Smooth, Boo..."Star giggled, while Jazz rolled her eyes
Present Time
"Wait...Back up...I thought Star said she considers the trip to New York your first couple's trip together...' Sam said, since the blonde girl wouldn't shut up about it at the time.
The blonde girl frowned, as if she recalled something she didn't like.
"Let us finish the story and then you'll understand what I mean..." Star said, not liking the interruptions before she continued with their tale.
Back to the story
As the teens tried to decide where to go first, Jack and Maddie went to the RV and pulled out their weapons.
"Mom? Dad? Where are you guys going?..."Danny asked, seeing his parents already carrying their ghost gear.
"Where do you think? To kick ghost butt..."Jack said, excited.
"Our sensors picked up some ectoplasmic energy nearby about several miles into the woods, up the mountain..."Maddie said scientifically as she held one of her ghost tracking devices.
"Are these the same sensors that made you sure that senior center was haunted?..."Jazz asked, and her parents flinched at being reminded of that unpleasant incident.
"They dropped the charges after we agreed to pay for damages..." Jack said, before smiling at Jonathan. "Thanks again for making that possible, J-Man..."He said.
"Just doing my job, Jack..." The lawyer said with a modest shrug.
"Anyway, we triple checked and we are 88% positive that there is ecto-energy nearby..." Maddie told her eldest child.
"Which means there's still a 12% chance that their sensors are wrong..." Jazz discretely whispered to her brother.
Danny in turn cringed, because a twelve percent chance is still too high a risk in his opinion, something he, his sister and girlfriend knew all too well. His parents just remained cheerful and determined to do this.
"So, your mom and I are going hunting. We'll be back later...hopefully by dinner time..."Jack said, oblivious of what the teenagers were thinking.
The orange clad man double-checked the snacks he packed for the search.
"Seriously? Star's parents invited us to a five-star ski resort, and you guys STILL wanna hunt ghosts and possibly get frostbite afterward..."Jazz complained, both sounding surprised and a tiny bit annoyed.
Danny and Star said nothing after the redhead mentioned Frostbite, as the older Fenton girl didn't realize how ironic it was that she unknowingly brought up a ghost to the conversation, one who could easily blend in this environment. All the while, Danny's parents didn't understand what their daughter was trying to say.
"Jazzerincess, this is our job. We have to make sure that no ghost scum does anything dastardly to this place..." Jack said.
"Besides, this is a rare chance that your father and I will be hunting ghost in a snowy environment and we're going to be fully prepared for anything..." Maddie said, equally as oblivious to the point Jazz was trying to make.
The young redhead groaned hearing this.
"It's like talking to a brick wall. An ectoplasmic, brick wall..." She thought frustrated.
Mr. Strong on his part couldn't help, but chuckle by what he witnessed. He seemed more amused than anything else but still decided to give his friends a warning.
"Ok you two, just be careful and try not to get lost in there. There have been reports that people not familiar with the area can get lost easily..."Johnathan said.
"Don't worry J-Man, Maddie has a great sense of direction..." Jack said, complementing his wife. "So even if by the slight chance the sensors are wrong, we'll be back safely..."He said confidently.
Maddie smiled at her husband, it really was endearing just how much trust and faith he has in her.
"Still, try and be back by six. That's when they will be serving crab legs at the buffet, as well as banana cream pie for dessert..."Jonathan said, making the large man grin at the mention of food.
"Can do..."Jack said, before turning to his kids again.
"Kids, while we're gone...stay close to the resort and don't go into the woods by yourselves. I don't wanna risk you kids getting haunted by snow-based ghost scum..." Maddie said overprotectively.
"Or be humiliated..." The Fenton teens thought at the same time by their parents antics.
"Oh, and Danny...listen to Star's parents and have fun but not too much fun...you're still kids after all..." Maddie added teasing the two while also warning them to behave.
"Oh my Gosh...Mom! Seriously?!..." Danny complained, completely mortified.
"Listen to your mother, son..."Jack said, waving off his youngest child's embarrassment.
He then turned to his wife with an excited grin on his face.
"I also can't wait to test out my latest invention on the first ectoplasmic scum we cross paths with..." Jack eagerly said, holding it out for everyone to see.
"And what exactly is that, dad?" Danny asked, taking a step back just to be safe.
"Oh, this is the Fenton Snow Flurry! It can trap a ghost like a frozen ecto popsicle in an instant and will go great with our new Fenton anti-ghost noise earmuffs, the new Fenton ghost protection lip balm, the new Fenton ghost grappling mittens, which is a modified winter version of the ghost gauntlets...and lat but not least, these new FRUMPI snow boots..."Jack said, as he showed off a pair of new metallic boots with the Fenton logo on it and fake green fur on it.
"Frumpy is right. No offense, but these look something out of the 70's Mr. Fenton..." Star said, not getting his meaning.
"No. F-R-U-M-P-I. As in the FENTON RESILIENT ULTRA MULTY-USE POLAR INVENTION snow boots..."Jack said as he pressed a button and suddenly a pair of skis appeared attached.
That actually intrigued Star and her dad a bit.
"Huh? Not bad..."Johnathan said, as Jack pressed another button, and a pair of skates appeared.
"It also has a built in drill perfect for ghost related emergencies...or ice fishing if we have the time..."Jack said as he pressed another button, and a drill appeared.
"Huh...cool. I can totally see that being useful..." Star said, making a mental note to ask for a pair later.
"Speaking of which...you all should probably have some too. Just in case. Good thing Jack and I brought extras..."Maddie said as she pulled out and handed copies of their new snow theme ghost hunting weapons to their children, Star and Jonathan.
"You can also give a pair to Stella when you see her..."She added.
"Will do..."Jonathan said, as he semi-reluctantly took the upgraded snow gear while his friends turned to each other, looking determined to hunt some ghosts.
"Come on, Mads. There's ghost in these mountains and we're gonna catch 'em all..."Jack declared, holding a blaster in his hands.
"Right behind you, let's capture some supernatural abominations of nature and study every atom of their being..." Maddie said with two bazookas on her back.
"Ghost season just started!..." She said, before running into the RV, looking determined to hunt ghosts.
"Man, that's hot!..." Jack said with a grin, as he followed right behind his wife.
The Fenton parents soon left with the RV, heading straight to the mountains' forest to find the alleged ghosts they believe to be in there.
Danny and Jazz sighed, while Johnathan seemed amused.
"Those two really are two of a kind..." He said, before turning to the teens.
"Okay, I'll be heading to my room. I got an important call to make and clients to reschedule with. Star, you kids stay near the resort and don't go into the woods. And remember to have fun on this winter trip, but to also be careful..."Jonathan said, sounding both relaxed yet cautious.
"Don't worry, Dad. Danny and I will be just fine. Plus, Jazz is the most responsible teenager I know. We'll be fine..." Star said with an innocent smile.
"It's not Jazz that I'm all too worried about. Well, I guess Maddie and Jack said it best. But I'll say again, try nor to have too much fun with your boyfriend. You're still young..."Her father warned, and the blonde girl pouted.
"Oh my God, Dad!..." Star said, now being the one embarrassed by her parent.
"I'm just doing my job, Princess..."Johnathan said amused, while his daughter blushed and crossed her arms.
"Parents..."Star muttered.
"Kids..."Jonathan said jokingly, as their vacation official began.
A little later
After their parents left to go do their own thing, the teens were free to do what they want.
"Okay...parents are busy...no school...no ghosts...just me and you Starlight..."Danny said.
"And me..."Jazz reminded, feeling annoyed that she was pretty much become as invisible as a ghost to the other two teens.
It was a little ironic to say the least. Her brother sent her a flat look, but also didn't want to exclude her during this trip either.
"Right...do you want to tag along with us?..." He said, though still secretly hoping to have some alone time with his girlfriend during this trip.
"Relax, Little brother. I don't plan on being the third wheel on your snow date with your girlfriend..." Jazz said, "Besides, seeing you two making out every five seconds is not my idea of a good time..." She added, while her brother rolled his eyes.
Star then took the opportunity the redhead just provided for them.
"Come on, Boo. Let's go skating... maybe hit the slopes later..." Star invited.
"I'd love to, Starlight..."Danny said, while his sister sent him a funny look.
"Uh...Danny...correct me if I'm wrong...though that seldom ever happens...but you don't know how to skate, and I have never seen you ski before in my life..."Jazz said.
"Jazz, you're forgetting that I can walk through walls, disappear and fly, and I can LITERALLY shoot ice out of my hands and eyes if I feel like it. I'm pretty sure I can learn how to ice skate..."Danny said.
"And I'll be the one teaching him. When I'm through with him, I'll have him skating like a pro..."Star said, wrapping her arm around her boyfriend.
Jazz rolled her eyes.
"Hmmm...Well, potentially watching my little brother face planting does sound tempting, but I doubt that seeing him do that on ice would be any more different than back home..."Jazz snarked.
Danny rolled his eyes.
"Hilarious..." He said sarcastically.
"Let's go, Boo! While there's still daylight!..." Star said cheerfully grabbing her boyfriend's hand.
"Have fun..."Jazz said as the couple left to go have fun in the snow together...leaving her all alone.
"Since I'm letting the young lovebirds spend some time with each other. What do I do to pass the time? Mrs. Bevier did say this place has a spa. Maybe some pampering and a rare moment of me time would be nice..." She thought, having already read every single one of her psychology books twice by now.
Plus, the young Fenton girl thought that spending some time by her own would be beneficial to her on a psychological level. Or at least, that's what she told herself as she went to go in the search for something to do.
"Just gotta decide on what exactly I can occupy my time on..." She thought as she headed in the direction of the spa.
All while hoping that for once, they can have a nice trip and her parents' obsession with ghosts won't spoil it.
Elsewhere
Deep in the mountain
Unknown to our heroes, deep in a cave in the mountain, far away from the resort, a certain being was watching them from a distance.
A shadowy figure, still not stepping out of the cave, used a telescope and spotted a certain half ghost boy who remained oblivious of the being was spying on him.
"Of all the mountains in all the human realm, he had to come here on the verge of my ultimate plan..."The figure said, as a dark grin stretched across his face and sharp fangs were revealed.
"Hmm...perhaps fate has finally smiled upon me after all these centuries of waiting..."The being said, as he kept scheming, a plan was slowly brewing in the back of his mind.
The creature quickly and carefully made a few calculations in his mind, he had to time this just right.
"Now...how do I go and meet with the "Great One"?..."The mysterious being asked himself, making sure not to leave anything to chance if he's finally within reach of his ultimate goal.
Present Time
"Wait...hold up? How did you know that-..."Tucker tried to ask but was cut off.
"Like I said, everything will be clear once we finish the story..."Danny said. not liking being interrupted again.
"And constantly interrupting is just gonna take even longer to finish..."Jazz pointed out.
"We promise, everything will make sense once we finish the story..."Star explained.
Their friends nodded, wanting to hear the rest. Before they could continue, Danny's ghost sense went off and a familiar whine was heard.
"WILL ANYONE BE MY FRIEND?..."Klemper shouted as he phased into the room.
"Seriously?!..."Star said, annoyed.
"I am SO missing the ghost free week we had..."Danny said.
"Us too..."His friends, sister and girlfriend all said as he changed forms to deal with this latest pest.
