Freeze
Chapter 4: The Abominable Snow Ghost
Danny, Star, Jazz, Tucker and Sam had been enjoying the pizza and the cool air thanks to Danny's ice powers.
After having quite "feast", the teenagers felt they couldn't take another bite. Well, most of them anyway.
"Man, that was some good pizza..."Tucker said, looking content with what he ate.
"I guess we're probably the only people on the block who COULD enjoy it during a heatwave like this and NOT turn their mouths into a fiery pit of despair..." Sam commented, as she drank some soda with the ice that Tucker chipped from the block of ice that Danny made.
"Quite a mental image there Sam. I don't know why I'm surprised given that doom and gloom is your M.O..." Star said dryly.
"It's a gift..." The goth girl said with a smirk.
Once done, everyone looked to Danny who was taking a sip from his soda.
"Okay...so...Mind telling us what happened next?..." Sam asked, still wanting to hear more of the story.
Danny finished the last of his pizza, before continuing.
"Right...well...like I told you guys before... My ghost sense went off and Star and I went to investigate..." Danny said as he continued with his tale.
Story
Danny and Star (now wearing her ghost hunting gear, winter edition) had left the resorts area and tried to find what or who triggered Danny's ghost sense.
"See anything yet, Danny-Boo?..."Star asked.
"Not yet, but we best keep looking. Knowing our luck, whatever ghost is here can't be too far off..." He replied, as they kept searching.
"Makes sense... " The blonde agreed, knowing that ghost has to be around here somewhere.
"And if this has anything to do with the "ghost stories" we heard earlier, it might not be of the friendly kind but we can handle it..." Star said, holding her ecto-saber in her hand just in case, making a swift twirling move with it for show.
"Man, that is hot..." Danny thought with a goofy smile, as his girlfriend kept talking.
"I don't know how far your ghost sense can detect a ghost but probably has a range of about a three kilometers radio..."Star guessed.
"That probably would be more impressive if I wasn't so bad at math, Starlight..." The hero said.
Before his girlfriend could reply back, both teenagers heard a blast nearby as well as a cry for help.
"HELP! SOMEBODY!..."They suddenly heard.
Danny and Star blinked.
"Oh man, now what?!..."Star went, while Danny's ghost sense went off again.
They ran/flew to the source of the scream. However, once they got there, the half-ghost hero was surprised.
"Huh?..."Danny went when he finally saw who screamed...and more importantly who made his ghost sense go off.
There, lying on the ground unconscious, looked to be a large, yeti-like creature that greatly resembled the warriors of the Far Frozen. muscular and Except that this one was comparably shorter and less robust than Frostbite...and he's also unconscious and severely injured as he seemed to be bruised with burnt fur and ectoplasm visible.
"Oh man, he's hurt!..."Danny said as he went to help whom he viewed as one of his ghostly allies.
Star went to help him as they dragged the warrior ghost to a nearby cave. There Danny managed to prop him against a wall and ensure not to hurt him as they tried to awaken him.
"Hey, wake up dude..." Danny said, snapping his fingers. "Are you okay? Please give me a sign that you're still kicking ..." He asked, sounding concerned.
Star found some disinfectant with her supplies and tried to tend to his wounds, all the while his chest moved up and down, showing he was still alive...or whatever the equivalent is for a ghost.
"Well, I guess this explains the whole "abominable snowman" they were talking about..."She thought as the far frozen stirred.
The ghostly yeti slowly opened his eyes as he regained consciousness and hissed in pain.
"Where...where am I?..."The far frozen warrior said in a weak voice.
"Shush, it's alright. You're safe. You're in the human world right now. I don't know what happened to you, but I do know you shouldn't be moving around much... being so injured and all..." Star said, as the ghostly beast tried to get up but growled in pain due to being quite weakened.
"Careful, there!..." Danny warned. "Take it easy...you look like you've been through a lot..." He said, as he tried to tend to ghostly beast's injury.
The yeti ghost grit his teeth and squinted his eyes as if trying to have a better view of his saviors, before he noticed who was right in front of him and gasped.
"Wait...snow white hair...eyes as green as pure glowing ectoplasm...and that symbol...are you by chance...the Great One? The Savior of the Ghost Zone?!..."The warrior said, sounding like he was in awe.
"Yeah, that's me. Danny Phantom. Guy who put Pariah Dark back into his sarcophagus..." Danny replied, as the yeti-like ghost tried to get up only to wince in pain but still tried to have enough strength to at least give the teenager his respects.
"Oh my, this quite an unexpected surprise! Salutations, Great One, Danny Phantom. I am Glaciar of the Far Frozen. This truly is such... an honor to meet you..." The warrior, Glaciar said, reverently kneeling to him bowing his head in respect, something that clearly took a lot out of him as he collapsed on onto the ground.
"Whoa, take it easy! You look like you can barely stand. You don't have to kneel..."Danny said in concern, since the ghost looked like he had better days
"Right... My apologies Great One, but like I said, it's just such a surprise to finally meet you..." Glaciar commented with as much enthusiasm as possible, as he rose up his icy leg cracked and shook under his weight.
Still, he tried to stand as best as he could.
"So, what exactly happened? You look like you just got hit by a meteor?..."Star asked, as she treated an injury.
"I was tinkering with one of machines and I accidentally forgot to cut off the power supply it blew up in my face... literally...but it wasn't my fault. Clearly the weather affected it..."The yeti ghost said, while Star raised a brow at what he said.
"Uh...okay..."Star said, wondering what the weather had to do with it, but the ghost turned to the ghost kid again with a smile on his face.
"If I live for another thousand years and more, I shall never forget this day. Never thought I'd have the opportunity to come across the one who has done not just my kin, but the entire Ghost Zone such a great service..."Glaciar said gallantly to Danny.
Danny sheepishly looked from Star to the ghostly yeti. Both teens unsure of what to make of this as they never encountered a member of the Far Frozen in the human world before.
So, he decided to just ask him.
"So uh…Dude..Glaciar, was it?..." Danny said awkwardly. "What brings to the human world?..."He asked.
"Ah, straight to the point I see. Well Great One as you can see, I am of the Far Frozen and I was also Chief Frostbite's most respected and trusted warrior. Or at least that is what I had been told..."Glaciar said in a false humble way, something that caught the blonde girl by surprise.
"You are? Pardon my bluntness, but you don't exactly look as if you are on your best shape of your life..." Star said out loud, since she noticed Glaciar seemed less...bulky compared to the other warrior's she has seen.
Glaciar sent her an annoyed look before he smiled and nodded.
"Yes, well that's to be expected. I was more of a scientist and a tactician, so while I might have lacked strength compared to the other warriors..."He began, sounding a bit annoyed before he continued. "I more than made up for it with my keen scientific mind and cunning strategy..."Glaciar said. "I also haven't exactly been back in the Far Frozen for many of your Earth years..."He said in sorrow.
"That's... Wow... Can't imagine being away from your home for so long..." Danny said sympathetically.
"Indeed, it has not been easy and in all my years, I could not do what you accomplished, Great One..."Glaciar said, looking impressed.
"Well...at the time, it wasn't all that impressive...I did have a lot of help..." Danny said, but the ghost waved it off.
"Quite humble and selfless. You certainly have wisdom beyond your years, Great One. I see that my brother understated your humility young warrior..."Glaciar said, smiling warmly.
"Your brother?..." Danny and Star both asked, wondering who he meant.
"Yes, Frostbite. He and I have been brothers in arms since we were cubs. I was his right hand, and he was mine..." Glaciar said, looking nostalgically lost in his memories. "Or should I say my right foot..."He morbidly joked patting his leg.
"Was?..." Star thought noticing Glaciar used past tense.
"Yes. For you see, Frostbite and I are old friends and like brothers. He entrusted me with this important mission long ago to retrieve something that was stolen. The reason that I didn't get a chance to meet you before today, is because I been on your world longer than previously thought would be the case. 300 years to be precise..."Glaciar explained.
"Mission? 300 years?!..."Danny asked.
"Yes, I am not sure if Chief Frostbite has told you...but since it is the Ghost Zone's own savior whom I am speaking to, I am sure he would not mind. You see, I refuse to return home until I completed my mission but one thing let to another, one danger after another, such as ongoing fights from both humans and ghosts have not made it easier getting closer to my end goal and to my surprise, I received a light at the end of the tunnel as you humans say..."Glaciar further explained.
"You don't mean... Me?..."Danny asked, and Glaciar nodded.
"Indeed. My mission is to retrieve a valuable treasure of my people that had been lost and Frostbite must have known I was having such a difficult time, he said to seek your aid should I need it to retrieve it if I ever crossed paths with you..."Glaciar said in a serious tone.
"Treasure? Do you mean the infi-map?..." Star asked, and Glaciar sent her a look.
"How do you know of our precious infi-map?! Who even are you, stranger?..."Glaciar asked curiously and almost suspiciously.
"Oh, right. This is my girlfriend, Star. She's helped a lot on ghost fighting and she's familiar with the Far Frozen. Frostbite showed the Infi-Map to her a while back..." Danny explained.
"I see. Forgive my rudeness, Great One. I did not mean to insult your second in command and mate..."Glaciar said apologetically, while Danny and Star blushed by what he was implying.
Danny wanted to say something, but Glaciar spoke again.
"But your love life will have to wait my liege. As I was saying before...I have urgent business to attend to and I really need your help. The Far Frozen needs your help..."The yeti-warrior said, apologetically, seemingly wanting to get back on topic
Star raised a brow at his behavior but decided to let it go as Glaciar continued to tell them as to why he was currently in Mount Amity.
"Since you are here...I believe I can let you communicate with Frostbite and he would explain it better than I can our most important predicament..." Glaciar said as he pulled out a device that vaguely resembled an old school projector.
"What is that?..."Star asked, while Glaciar looked proud as he spoke about the device.
"Oh, one of my people's most advance communications devices, made by my hands. We call it a holoprojector...pardon it's crude holographic appearance but I'm afraid it has been busted in my travels but fear not, even if it does a poor job of rendering colors accurately, we can see everything through a strong blue filter .."Glaciar explained briefly ready to show the message but it shorted out for a second.
The ghost yeti frowned as he slapped it, finally turning on.
"I'm afraid this is the best we can see, pardon its crude appearance but kind of hard to fix the device without the proper tools but I believe I did a decent job..."Glaciar said, while the teens eyed the device curiously.
"It kinda looks like an old school movie projector..."Danny thought but didn't want to be rude.
Glaciar pressed a button and soon appeared an image of Frostbite and like the Yeti said, the holographic image of Frostbite was seen in a blue filter.
"Greetings, Great One. I see that you have finally met my finest warrior, Glaciar, and I assume that he has already briefed you on his mission. Please aid my brother in arms in this most important of quests! The future of the Far Frozen depends on it! I need-..."The image of Frostbite said dramatically, even if it glitched out quite frequently.
Before Danny could say anything, the glitching got worst and soon the image is gone.
"Darn it...not again. It must be more damaged than I thought. I knew that I should have packed more than one holoprojector ..."Glaciar said, sounding frustrated but apologetic to the teens and managed to quickly regain his cold composure.
Once the message ended, Glaciar turned to Danny with a pleading look.
"As you can see, Frostbite believes you can aid me. Please help us, Great one. My people desperately need a warrior of your strength and abilities for this mission. Who but you could help us in this time of need? Especially since time is of the essence!..." Glaciar said with sheer desperation in his tone.
Which was something the blonde found quite odd given how the Far Frozen she has come to know even in the harshest of circumstances would be stoic rather than to display worry.
"I mean...I'm sure this is serious but why isn't Frostbite here if this is so serious? He's your brother or friend, after all?..." Star asked.
"He's far too busy guarding the Infi-map to come here. Which is why he sent me all those centuries ago instead..." Glaciar replied, before he pleased dramatically at Danny again.
"Great one, savior of the ghost zone whom the Far Frozen greatly respects. I beg of thee...will you help me retrieve our priceless treasure before it falls in the wrong hands?..."Glaciar said, as he bowed his head again and ignored his injury.
Danny's didn't hesitate to answer, then nodded his head in agreement.
"Sure, happy to help. Frostbite and the rest of the Far Frozen are my friends and helped me out a lot of times. Of course, you can all count on me..." Danny said, and Glaciar smiled as he rose to his feet.
"Excellent, Great one. Oh, the things I have been told about you were not exaggerated at all. Your dedication to the safety of both the human and ghost worlds are unmatched..."Glaciar said in a flattering way.
Danny nodded and began to ask more questions about the situation at hand.
"So, what's the artifact that you guys need?..." Danny asked.
Glaciar pressed a button that was on a device that he had and soon appeared the image of what looked to be a map of a cave, as well as the image of a cyan colored cup that had strange symbols and markings inscribed around it.
"Many eons ago, a valuable artifact called the Chalice of Cold was stolen from our people and hid it away in the human world by our enemies. While our warriors had managed to exact vengeance of the thieves, they would never tell us where they hid it, and our precious chalice has been lost until now. After so long, I have found it after centuries of searching. Which as it turns out it's hidden behind a magical barrier that can be broken once every few years...and only under a full moon..."Glaciar explained.
"Full moon? That's in two days..." Danny said.
"Indeed. It must be destiny that you came when you did..."He said.
"Unfortunately, the barrier is ghost proof, and I cannot get there...it is also protected by many spells to keep humans and thieves away and far from it. No one can get to it...unless a warrior could...say...use his powers to override the spells...and become human to get through the ghost proof barrier. I never would have imagined in my wildest dreams that such a warrior could hypothetically exist until Frostbite told me of you..."Glaciar said in shock.
"Destiny truly smiles on this meeting, my young friends and fellow warriors. The tale of your great deeds continues onwards even to this day. It will be an honor to fight by your side, Great one..."The yeti said in a polite way.
"Please, call me Danny, Great One is just a title given to me by Frostbite..." The ghost boy said in a humble tone.
"Now, are you sure it's a good idea to remove the item from where it lies? Seems to me that it's pretty protected if no one could get to it by now?..." Danny asked, since it sounded secured if even this guy couldn't get to it and it seemed to have been that way for centuries.
"That may be the case Great One… I mean Danny... but you need to understand that in the wrong hands, the chalice can be very dangerous. It can increase a warrior's strength 10-fold and give them powers beyond their usual strength. If it winds up in the hands of an enemy, the consequences could be disastrous..."Glaciar said in a serious tone.
"That's why I must return it to the Far Frozen at once, best to be protected by my kin rather than unguarded by nothing more than just the moon and a few spells. And there are so many enemies both here and in the ghost zone who'd stop at nothing to obtain its power... "He said sheer determination to get the job done.
"Don't worry, we won't let that happen..."Danny said firmly, not wanting something to let anyone get hurt if he had anything to say about it.
"Wonderful! Thank you, my friend. I'll be forever grateful should we be successful ..."Glaciar said, looking happier than he was earlier.
Star couldn't help, but still feel a bit suspicious.
"Another thing, in order to break the spells, their is an ancient technique for those with ice cores...you must master it if we want any chance..."Glaciar said.
"An ancient technique?..."Danny asked, sounding concerned.
"No worries, I will be more than happy to teach you..."Glaciar said, before hissing again. "Ugh...after I go home and recover a bit. Is it alright if we can meet up again and then start training later..."Glaciar said.
Danny nodded.
"Sure. We can meet up later..."The ghost kid said, while Star said nothing but still seemed unsure. Something in the back of the blonde girl's mind was quietly warning her that some was just a little off but remained quiet for the time being as the ghosts spoke.
"Excellent. I will send you a message soon. We'll meet here when the time is right, until than my young friend..."Glaciar replied happily, before flying off.
Glaciar was now gone, heading back to his lair, smirking victoriously.
"Finally. He is JUST like Frostbite was back in the day..."He thought, as he smirked as he left the heroes behind.
All the while, Danny and Star processed what they just experienced.
"What's a chalice by the way?..." Danny asked Star when Glaciar was gone.
"A fancy cup like a goblet. I saw several of those things back at the gift shop, Boo..." She answered and Danny nodded in thanks.
"Ah, okay then..." The half ghost boy said, feeling slightly embarrassed for not guessing that sooner.
Danny and Star both left the area and headed back to the ski resort, but Star felt something was off.
"Something is weird..."Star said, feeling that something was off with that guy.
"What do you mean, Starlight?..."Danny asked.
"Don't you find it weird that he said that he is Frostbite's finest warrior...but he looks like he wouldn't last long in a fight with Skulker...much less the other warriors we have seen before..." Star said, finding it strange.
"He did say he was mostly a scientist and a tactician...and the warriors of the Far Frozen are known for more than just being strong in a fight..."Danny said, knowing that they were great scientists too.
"True...but it was weird. I can't put my finger on it, but I just know something isn't right. Plus, I know Frostbite and his people idolize you but wouldn't he had mentioned me? And did he talk about being Frostbite's friend in past sense? Or am I overthinking that?..." Star said, still sounding unsure.
"He did say he was in the human world for 300 years? That's probably what he meant..." Danny said. "I mean you're bound to forget certain things after so long..."He said.
"I guess..." Star admitted. "But still…I don't know Boo, something just doesn't sit right with me..."She said.
"I get that, Starlight. We have come across some ghosts that aren't so trustworthy before, but I think this time we can trust Glaciar. If Frostbite sent him, then I'm sure that he's a good dude...and if that chalice is as dangerous as he says then I rather do something before someone like Vlad finds out about it and I think his hands are the worst ones to have possession of such a powerful artifact..." Danny said, fully trusting the Yeti warrior that was close to his ghostly friend and mentor.
"Okay. You do make a good point, Danny-Boo..." Star said, as they left to go back to the resort.
Present Time
"So, you met another Far Frozen guy, huh?..."Tucker asked, eating another pizza.
"Yeah, Glaciar was his name..."Danny said, frowning.
"So, he's Frostbite's brother?..."Sam asked.
"He didn't mean it literally, but more like brothers in arms...like all of us but better...obviously..." Danny said, frowning and his friends were surprised by this reaction.
"Back to the story, all will be explained later. Just let us explain it in the order it happened..." Star said, before she continued with the story.
Back to the story
It was later and Star and Danny returned to the resort. It was also around dinner time, and they met up with their families and Solene.
"I can't believe we couldn't find and trace of that ghost anywhere in the snow-covered woods..."Jack said glumly, frustrated about that.
"Don't worry, we're going back out there to look for that abominable snow ghost. He won't stand a chance. Just as soon as some of our ghost hunting gear unfreezes..."Maddie said, still frustrated that they didn't find any ghosts yet but tried to be optimistic.
Her husband then directed his attention back to the big pile of food he got from the buffet table. He looked over the resort's food that he got and it smelled delicious.
"At least the food at this resort is delicious, I'd gladly call this a silverling..."Jack said, as he enjoyed eating the crab legs from the buffet.
"I suppose it is. Just try to make sure not to go overboard with the buffet, Dear. Remember what happened last time?..."Maddie said and her husband flinched as he recalled what she meant.
"What? The sign at that restaurant clearly said All You Can Eat and I was still hungry. Geez, you eat your way into a food coma one time...and you can't just let that go..."Jack said in annoyance before he went back to eating and looking forward for the key-lime pie he was saving for dessert.
"Man, this place has some good crab..."He said as he happily ate it, while his wife sighed before she went to eat some of the lasagna she got from the buffet.
All the while their children were still off doing their respective activities or eating dinner at a separate table.
Jazz was on the other side of the resort's restaurant, sitting with Baylor, the guy she met earlier today. After they got their coffee's, they started talking a lot and soon realized they shared a lot of the same interests.
"When I am not practicing skiing, I enjoy reading, hiking, sailing, listening to classical music, visiting art museums and watching classic films. I also collect vintage snow globes as a hobby. But enough about me, tell me more about yourself?..."Baylor asked, offering her an ear to listen to.
"Well, I enjoy reading, especially psychology books...art...and I do yoga and sometimes work out. I also enjoy going to museums, art galleries and music. I also sometimes do volunteer activities to boost up my grades and I enjoy helping people cope with their personal issues. Sometimes I even offer therapeutical counseling to my little brother and friend. They don't always accept, but I still help them out where I can. That's not getting into what I do for weekends..."Jazz said as she talked about her hobbies and interests.
"Once I graduate high school, I plan on going to a university of my first choosing and either earn a PHD in psychology and open my own practice...and maybe later on eventually write my thesis book on the human mind and the complexity of ones emotions..."She continued, glad to find someone she could find to talk about her ambitions and who seemed interested in listening to her.
"Wow, Jazz, that's quite a goal. I find it fascinating you want to become a psychologist. That is a very impressive career and takes a lot of dedication. I thought that I was the only one who was interested in the psychological ethics of the human mind. You don't meet a lot of people with that kind of interest around our age..."Baylor said, showing off a pearly white smile to her.
Jazz smiled, feeling flattered.
"Believe me, I know what that's like..."She said, recalling her own peers at Casper High who didn't exactly have much interest in the subject.
"So, you are an aspiring skier?..."Jazz asked again, wanting to know more about him.
Baylor nodded.
"Yes, I have been training since I was four. I plan on going pro after high school and hope to compete internationally someday...and if not, my backup plan is becoming a ski instructor like my folks. You know, joining the family business..."He said while Jazz listened closely.
"I see. Well, that sounds amazing. It's good to be so spirited about a dream. I wish you luck..."Jazz said, smiling and feeling a little flustered around him.
"Thanks..."The blonde boy said, smiling at her while Jazz blushed a bit.
"So...what does your family do for a living?..."Baylor asked and Jazz flinched.
"Oh...uh...my parents are...scientist..."Jazz said, being vague.
Yes, she didn't think they were neglectful crackpot lunatics anymore, but they were still embarrassing at times, and she recall how people usually first reactions to her parents' careers. She'd rather NOT go through that again right now, to be honest.
"Huh? Fascinating. Though I suppose it makes sense... Brilliant parents produced a brilliant daughter. I should have known..."Baylor said in a flattering way, while Jazz blushed at the smooth talking.
"Brilliant parents...well he's not technically wrong..."Jazz thought as he kept asking questions.
"So, what kind of science do they pursue?..."Baylor said, while Jazz remains silent for a moment.
"Did I say scientist? I meant...inventors...they build stuff..."Jazz said as she slightly sweats out of nervousness.
"I see. That's fascinating. Your parents have probably invited a lot of unique inventions ..."Baylor said, seemingly obvious of her keeping her parents jobs secret.
"Well...yeah..."Jazz said, since it was technically true about her parents' ghost research careers.
Jazz and the boy she has taken a fancy to kept talking and getting to know each other better, unaware that Jazz's brother and his girlfriend had showed up and witness part of the conversation between them.
Present Time
"Ugh...you guys actually saw that?..."Jazz asked, sounding embarrassed after her brother and his girlfriend talked about that.
"We had just arrived back to the resort and headed to the buffet table. You seemed busy so we didn't want to interrupt..."Danny said.
"Plus, I wanted to keep my appetitive..."He said, trying hard not to think of his older sister's love life.
"Boo, be nice..."Star said and Jazz frowned.
"Pot calling the kettle black, little brother..."The redhead muttered, looking irritated and Tucker and Sam sent confused looks.
"Okay, what happened that made Jazz like this?..."Sam asked, knowing something must have happened.
Jazz sent a glare to her brother, before she spoke up.
"I don't want to talk about it...at least not now. I'll come up later. I'm not emotionally ready to retell THAT particular moment of my life. Let's just focus on telling the story in order of how it all unfolded..."Jazz said, sounding bitter about something.
"Moving on. Back to the story. Star and I were feeling a little hungry, so we both had showed up to the resort for dinner time-.."Danny said, as he just wanted to continue with the story.
Meanwhile
Danny and Star had arrived at the resort's restaurant for dinner, having returned from their little encounter at the snowy mountain and after Danny accepted this little "side quest adventure" from the ghost yeti.
They got their respective meals from the buffet. Danny got some roast chicken and mash potatoes, while Star got some pasta, salad and breadsticks. They both got some pecan pie with strawberry ice-cream and chocolate cheesecake for dessert respectively.
"Man, this stuff is great..."Danny said, as he happily ate his roast chicken and mash potatoes.
"Yes, it is..."Star said as she barely touched her pasta and breadsticks, while she kept thinking back to some of the odd behavior of that ice legged ghost yeti.
Danny noticed her expression.
"Something up, Starlight?..."The ghost boy asked.
"I was just thinking about what Glaciar said. What do you think that training is supposed to be?..."Star asked, concerned about her boyfriend.
"He did say that it's an ancient technique for ghosts who have ice powers. So I can imagine that it won't be easy and might be tough..."Danny said, knowing he will have to work hard.
"Just promise me you'll be careful, Danny-Boo. I can't stand the thought of anything happening to you..."Star said with concerned.
Danny sent her a reassuring smile.
"Don't worry, Starlight. I'll be fine. Besides, Glaciar is on our side and Frostbite is vouching for the guy. I'm sure that we can trust him..."He said, knowing that he wouldn't leave such an important mission to just anyone that he didn't deem trustworthy.
Star still seemed to be a little unsure, but her boyfriend sent her a smile.
"Everything will be fine..."Danny said as he finished his dinner and began to enjoy his pecan pie with ice cream.
"I sure hope so..."Star said, as she began to eat her chocolate cheesecake but was still wary about Glaciar but she did trust in Frostbite's words.
After all, if he was one of his warriors and directly asked them to help, then she supposed that he was on the up and up.
"It'll be fine, Starlight. Frostbite has never steered me wrong before. It'll be as easy as opening a door..."Danny said as his girlfriend still had her doubts but tried to be optimistic.
As they continued to eat and make plans for this new mission, someone else at the cafe was dealing with her own tiny issues of feeding her baby boy who was acting fussy.
Stella, having picked up Pierre from day care a few hours earlier, had been having fun playing with a complimentary stuffed yeti at the chalet and soon showed up for dinner.
Now, she was sitting to dinner and Pierre was now sitting in a baby highchair and Stella was feeding him.
"Here, you go Angel. Here comes the train..."Stella said as she moved the spoon of mashed veggies, but her son turned away.
"No...no..."Pierre said, being a little fussy.
"Come now, Pierre. You need to eat your vegetables, along with your yummy mash potatoes and meat. If you don't eat them, you won't get dessert..."Stella said, and her son got fussy again.
Thankfully, after a few minutes, she got Pierre to eat his mashed veggies and the rest of his dinner.
"Aw, that's my baby boy. Pretty soon, you'll grow to be big and strong like your big sister..."Stella said as Pierre giggled and Stella got some soft, baby biscuits that her son loved.
As Pierre happily gnawed on it, Stella smiled.
"He's so adorable. He's such a good little boy..."Stella thought, happy about his healthier eating habits.
As Stella kept feeding her son. The blonde woman kept pretending it was either a plan or a train, as she spoon-feeds his food.
As this continued, some people were about to leave but they had been talking as they were on their way out and Stella couldn't help but overhear part of their conversation.
"So, how are you feeling about winning at this year's skiing competition?..."One of the male guests at this resort asked.
"Oh, I'm completely hyped for it. I've been working on my techniques for the last 4 months and I've made great improvements. I even feel lucky enough to win first place!..."One of the female guests at this resort responded with excitement.
"I know you'll do great. You've been talking about wanting to go pro forever..."The guy said and his friend smiled.
"Duh, it's my dream! There's no way I'd ever call it quits, even if I don't win this year. There will always be next year to look forward too but I still gotta try..."The woman said, before they left together.
As they left, Stella heard the part of the conversation...and it reminded her of something from her past.
Something from a long, LONG time ago.
"Going pro?..."Stella thought, as a certain memory resurfaced and she began daydreaming about her past.
FLASHBACK
Many years ago
A nineteen-year-old Stella Traville had just won her college's regional figure skating competition.
She was given the first-place trophy, and everyone cheered her name, and some other people praised her performance and even took her picture for the local paper. Stella was ecstatic as people had complimented her and told her she had some real talent.
Her siblings had cheered her on and even her mother clapped for her, but only after she was declared the winner of course. Stella felt happy and encouraged from the praise of so many people. She felt so overjoyed with this feeling of being seen for her own accomplishment in the figure skating competition.
"This is totally radical!..."Young Stella thought as she held her trophy in her hand, feeling on top of the world right now.
Young Stella then lifted her trophy in the air as the crowd cheered for her even louder than before. She didn't know how this could get any better.
Then, one of the judges, who was actually a professional figure skating coach, had spoken to her and the blonde woman was amazed when she told her something she couldn't believe. She was offering her a chance to be on her skating team as a pro. Stella had been speechless and the coach gave her business card and told her to call her when she had her answer.
Young Stella was so overjoyed and excited about how bright and promising her figure skating career was beginning. It was even starting to feel like she might have found a new path for herself, a purpose that Stella can call her own.
"Stella Traville, professional figure skater. I like the sound of that..."She thought happily, unable to wait in sharing the good news.
She immediately told all of her siblings about the new of her big break and each one of their were so happy for her. Encouragement she needed for her big shot.
Her father was on a business trip in Europe but had called her to congratulate her for her victory and even said that he was extremely proud of her. And profusely apologized for not attending her big important day in the ice, Stella already forgave her father for that. So long as she was offered an apology gift later, which Richard was more than willing to comply with.
Stella then continued to tell everyone about the amazing offer she had just been given and how she wanted to take it. However, one person was against this and didn't want to hear anymore of this "nonsense" as she called it.
"Don't be ridiculous, Stella! Of course, you're not doing that!..." Beatrice told her daughter, after she told her about the offer.
Stella was upset to hear this and tried to convince her.
"But mother! This is the opportunity of a lifetime! I can go pro, and I might even-..."Stella was cut off.
"Not now, Stella. Mummy's still talking. It's rude to interrupt..."Beatrice said sharply.
"But mother-..."
Stella was loudly reminded not to talk over her mother and remained silent as her mother kept berating her eldest daughter and was scolding her yet again.
"But nothing! It's ludicrous that you are even considered accepting this deal for a second. You are a Traville, not some ice dancer. Can you imagine a Traville of all people, someone of our family's proud lineage performing for the masses and making a fool of herself like a performing monkey for the peasants! No, absolutely not! I forbid it!..."Beatrice said sternly, clearly against her daughter's ambition as a whole.
"But Mother...I was scouted to join one of the best pro teams in the country and I might have a chance of becoming a real champion and become famous someday. If you just-..."Stella said but was cut off yet again.
"I said I forbit it! Don't be foolish, Stella! I refuse to allow you to make a fool of yourself in front of your inferiors. You are a Traville and were born superior to the peasants around you. You know your place in high society and how these foolish games of yours will be something to be mocked among our social peers. Besides, you don't even need whatever measly salary this little team provides. The trust fund your father and I provide for you is more than 100 times whatever this little "going pro" nonsense could ever give you and you'll be more than provided for once we find you a proper husband to marry. All that tiptoeing on that ridiculous ice stage is pointless..."Beatrice said coldly, as she certainly didn't go easy on lecturing her eldest daughter.
Stella wanted to argue that it wasn't about the money but her mother wouldn't listen to her and continued to talk down on her talents as ice skating athlete.
It didn't end there, unfortunately.
Beatrice took her skates away much to Stella's protest handing them to a servant before she grabbed Stella's cell phone and called the officials of the Figure Skating committee, including the coach, to turn down the offer. Her daughter watched in sadness as she saw her chance to live out her dream be crumbling away without her say in the matter.
"Now it has been done. Now there will be no more talk of this idiotic fantasy on ice again, do you hear me? I never want to hear any of this silly nonsense of "going pro" again! I can accept you having a little "hobby" like this, but women of our status do not work like peasants and doing senseless and pointless things that make us sweaty and wastes our time, just to entertain poor commoners. It's an embarrassment, not to mention a complete mockery to our good family name. So, don't you dare follow in the footsteps of such a profession and that is beneath the dignity of true descendants of nobility like us. So, you will NOT be doing this! Is that clear, Stella?!..."Beatrice said in a harsh and rather cold tone, unaware of how horrible her words were.
She was just expecting to hear the sound of acceptance from her eldest daughter.
Stella froze for a moment but reluctantly nodded. As always, her mother got whatever she wanted and made sure that Stella did as she was told. It's been that way for as long as she can remember. In the Traville household, Beatrice's word was law.
Stella said nothing, while her mother sent her a "gentle" look and spoke in a softer yet still stern tone as she pat her condescendingly on the shoulder.
"Understand that this is for your own good, Stella. A woman of our lineage should have more ladylike pursuits befitting of our noble status. After all, you must become a suitable bride who will uphold your social class if you want to find a husband of our class and pedigree and continue to bring greatness to our family name. You can't disgrace yourself acting as a jester for the peasant masses. Someday, you'll thank me for this and so will your sisters...once they understand as well as you do. You'll understand this better once you become a mother yourself that this is for the best..."Beatrice said in a "kind" way, smiling slightly at her daughter and without realizing it, warped some of her perspective of what a mother and daughter relationship should looks like.
And unaware that this was just one of many things her daughter will grow to regret later in her life, essentially taking away a life that would have made her happy and not affect her status in the slightest.
Beatrice didn't see any point to continue this discussion of figure skating any further and then ordered one of the servants to start the limousine, while she ordered another servant to gather the rest of her children to said limousine. Stella said nothing as her mother bossing the servants around and gestured her daughter to follow and made it clear that it wasn't a choice.
"Come along, Stella. We have much work to be done, if we are to continue teaching you on how to become a proper lady of high society. Plus, you don't want your sisters to beat you by finding a proper husband before you do. I except you to set a better example for them to follow..."Beatrice said, not knowing or realizing that what she just did would haunt her daughter for many years.
"Yes...mother..." Stella agreed glumly, as she left with her mother...and left her dream behind as well.
The young blonde girl said nothing, as she quietly wipes away the tears that nearly fell off her face, before her mother saw them.
End of Flashback
Present Time
Stella tried hard not to think about that memory.
She often tried to repress certain memories like these away for quite some time and right now she was trying not to think about them.
"It's in the past. Where it belongs. Besides, I have better things to focus on..."She thought, trying not to think of that.
Her past no longer has any say of what or how her future becomes. She wanted to make sure of that she wouldn't deprive her children of what they wanted to do in life. Like how her mother did to her growing up.
"Mama? Biscuit?..."Pierre asked, wanting another one and snapping his mother out of her gloomy thoughts.
"Of course, sweet pea. Sorry about that. Now where's the airplane?..." Stella said, as she quickly shook off the dreary parts of her memory during her youth.
Then she refocused her efforts in feeding and paying attention to her baby boy... and making sure the food was in her son's mouth rather than on his face.
"Okay, Pierre. After this, we'll head back to our nice chalet, and Mama will play with you some more, read you a nice story and get you ready for beddy-bye. And tomorrow, Mama's going to show you how to make a snowman and how to catch snowflakes, doesn't that sound fun?..."She said in a cooing voice while her son giggled happily.
Stella smiled as she wanted to focus on this lovely trip, and not her past...and on teaching her son on how to have fun in the snow, without forcing him to learn it.
She didn't want to be like her mother was and wanted to be the kind of mother her children deserve. The kind she failed to be for Star for many years but was working hard to make amends now.
"Let the past stay in the past. Tomorrow is going to be a new day. A fun day with my family and our dear friends. That's what I want ..."She thought, trying to remain positive and enjoy new experiences.
As well as making sure her children never have to go through anything like how she did growing up, like giving up so many things that meant so much to them...like she did.
"I will never be like she was to me. I promise you, Pierre. I'll never be like her..." Stella thought, as her son continued to happily eat his dessert and be unaware of his mother's thoughts.
Present Time
"Wait? How did you know about that? And about how what Beatrice the terrible said all those years ago?..."Tucker asked.
"Like I said, my mom told us about Beatrice the dream killer and I asked Dad and Eleanor for some more had plenty to say about the old bat, and we added the pieces together and filled in any gaps with some educational guessing but be honest, this is definitely something that crone would do..."Star explained, sounding angry at being reminded of her evil ex-grandmother.
"What the heck does that old witch have against figure skating anyway? I mean...I literally can't see anything wrong with someone wanting to be one if that's their dream..."Jazz said, still not understanding.
"Because that old bat is a horrible person and mega control freak who yells and tries to force everyone to do whatever she says and doesn't care who she hurts as long as she gets what she wants. She probably only made my mom give up her dream because it didn't fit into her SUPER warped, outdated idea of what a "proper lady" is supposed to be or some other crud like that!..."Star said in anger, saying proper lady with air quotes.
"Poor Stella. Growing up with that witch must have been tough..."Danny said, feeling sorry for Mrs. Bevier.
"Yeah, it was just...really, really awful how that old hag was to your mom..."Sam said, actually pitying the woman a bit.
"I'll say. There's enough to go over that'd make any doctor enough money to take a decade off, and there really is so much to unpacked with that family...no offense, Star..."Jazz said.
"None taken. I know that Beatrice was always a nightmare. She constantly complained in earshot of my mom and aunts that why she was always disappointed in them unless they did whatever she said..."Star said with a sigh, knowing what a nightmare that hag is.
"Honestly...considering how lousy that old bat is and her messed up idea of raising kids, I'm actually surprised Mrs. Bevier didn't turn out A LOT worse...and that includes her sisters and maybe her brother...though I don't know him.."Jazz said, surprised that Star's mom even tolerated that horrible old woman for as long as she did and just glad she finally stood up to her awhile back.
"My uncle Liam is actually pretty nice and down to earth, though he spends a lot of the time working and rarely attends family gatherings, but Mom always says it takes a lot of work running the family business. And she aways did say Uncle Liam is just like my grandpa..."Star replied.
"Ah, I see. I guess we should count ourselves lucky he took after your grandfather then..."Jazz said.
"We should all count ourselves lucky for that..."Danny said, glad to know that thankfully no one took after that old bat.
One Beatrice Traville is already bad enough.
"Anyway, let's continue. Anyway, after me and Danny had dinner and my mom continued to feed Pierre, here's what happened-.."Star said, but was cut off when they suddenly heard a phone ringing.
It was Star's.
"Oh...one second. It's Pop-Pop..."Star said as she answered the phone.
"Hello..."Star answered.
"Hi there, gumdrop!..."Kirk's voice was heard.
"Hi princess, how's it going?..."Joy's perky voice could be heard on the other end too.
"Hi, Pop-Pop. Hi Nana. What's up?..."Star said, happy to hear from them.
They began to talk and Star nodded along as they chatted and her grandparents asked questions to see how she is doing.
"Yeah, there's a heatwave going on right now. Yeah I'm inside. Oh, me, Danny and our friends are just chilling out at Danny's house. Yeah, they are all here..."Star said as she held out her phone.
"Say hi, Guys..."The blonde girl said.
"Hi, Kirk...Hi Joy..."Danny greeted.
"Hi Mr. and Mrs. Strong..."Jazz and everyone else said.
"Hi Kids. I hope you all are being careful and staying cool during this crazy heatwave. Honestly, it kinda reminds me of your grandpa and my road trip to Florida last Summer..."Joy said.
"We are. No worries. Danny's AC is SUPER chilly..."Tucker said, sending an amused look at his friend.
"That's good to hear..."Kirk said.
"Anyway, be sure to drink plenty of water and avoid the soda. it'll dehydrate you in this heat..."Joy said in a nagging but caring way.
"We will, Nana..."Star said, as her grandparents kept talking with her, Danny and their friends for a bit.
