"Monsters in Tokyo"
Sorry for the long wait. Please enjoy and review!
Sitting down on the couch, Kari started up a game of patty-cake with Daisuke, Koromon and DemiVeemon, but they were struggling a bit at playing it with four people.
As for Tai, he was standing off to the side and was simply staring at his sister in disbelief, having a difficult time understanding how Kari knew who and what Koromon was.
Just then, Tai walked over to Kari and placed his hand on her forehead and on his, checking for a temperature which made everyone look at him.
"What's wrong, Tai?" Kari asked as she stopped the game.
"Nothing." He said.
"Then why do you think I have a fever?" Kari asked.
"That's probably because you always have a fever." Daisuke muttered under her breath.
It shocking really how many times Kari had gotten sick when they were children.
The girl had been born with a weak immune system and the slightest change in weather always caused her to get sick which made her parents worry over their daughter constantly.
"I'm not sick and I've been to Digi-World." Kari said, shocking everyone.
"No way." Tai muttered.
"Well, I think you have. Where else could you find a Koromon?" Kari questioned.
"The toy store." Tai said nervously and quickly.
"The internet." Daisuke did the same.
"Oh, please." Kari seemed to almost scoff.
"You do know." Tai's face displayed shock.
He then glanced over to Daisuke, seeing the surprised look on her face as well.
DemiVeemon was also confused by what the little girl was saying, unsure of how she could know so much about the Digital World when she had said she never went there until after she found Gatomon.
"I'd better call everyone else's house to see if they got home too." Tai said as he made his way over tot he phone.
This made Daisuke and DemiVeemon frown, unsure if the others had somehow gotten home.
Then again, the reason why the duo of Miracles were in the Human World was because they were close to the portal that MetalGreymon had accidentally opened up and they were sucked inside.
Shaking her head to rid herself of the confusing thought, Daisuke then turned her attention back onto Kari and almost jumped when she found those haunting eyes on her.
The child of Light was quite creepy as a little girl, why did Daisuke never notice this before?
"Kari," Daisuke spoke up making the girl blink at her curiously.
"Um, are you sure you've been to the Digi-World and you weren't just dreaming about it?" Daisuke asked her.
"Hey, yeah. Maybe Kari went there in a dream." DemiVeemon said.
"Is that true?" Koromon asked as Tai tried calling his friends.
All of their parents confirmed that the rest of the DigiDestineds hadn't arrived home or even called them.
"Maybe. Sometimes when I close my eyes, I feel like I'm there." Kari confessed.
Narrowing her eyes in thought at that, Daisuke began to wonder if this was part of the strange powers Kari inherited from the Crest of Light.
"I see." Daisuke whispered.
Failing at getting any contact with the others, Tai put the phone down and frowned as he realized the rest of the Digidestineds were still in the Digital World.
Getting up from the couch, Kari then carried Koromon with her over to where her brother was standing and a curious duo of Miracles walked over as well.
"Tai, I know you're hungry. There's food in the fridge or you can have my left-over piece of pie." Kari suggested.
"I call first dibs this time." Koromon exclaimed.
"I've got a better idea. I'll make us a healthy breakfast." Tai smiled.
Walking into the kitchen, Tai then pulled out a carton of eggs from the fridge before he then grabbed a bowl.
Cracking the eggs, he then stirred them with a pair of chop sticks before he then poured the mixture into a pan to cook them.
As he did this, Kari and Daisuke watched him closely, slightly amazed with his newly aquired cooking skills.
"Come and get it!" Tai called after he was finished cooking.
"It's good to be home." Tai and Koromon smiled as their held their hands (or ears in Koromon's case) in prayer before they dug into their food.
Rolling her eyes in amusement at the sight of the boys gulping down their food like starved wolves, Daisuke then started eating as well.
DemiVeemon was gulping down his food as well, but he actually knew how to use his fork and wasn't just using a spoon to scoop it into his mouth.
Slowly, Kari cut off a piece of the egg and brought it up to her mouth to eat it, tasting it curiously.
"Delish." Kari complimented.
"You said it." Tai said before gulping his food down.
"Geez, slow down, will ya? You're gonna choke or swallow your spoon." Daisuke scolded, reminding herself and Tai of Sora.
It shouldn't really be a surprise though considering how much time the two girls had spent together during their travels.
"Tai, you never cooked. Did you learn at camp?" Kari asked her brother.
"Yeah, my new friend Matt taught me when our summer camp switched to Digi-World." Tai explained.
"You're good. I'm stuffed, you guys can eat the rest." Kari pushed her full plate away.
That made Daisuke frown since Kari looked so pale and fragil.
"Glad to." Koromon said as Tai pulled the plate over.
Glaring, Daisuke slapped Tai's hand away, making him yelp.
"Hey, what was that for?" He asked.
"Kari, can you at least try eating half of it? You need to eat if you want to get better." Daisuke told the girl as she set her plate back in front of her.
Staring up at the older girl, Kari was able to see the honest consern for her in the redhead's eyes and then looked back down at her food, carefully picking her fork up.
"Okay, I'll try." Kari said as she started eating again.
Soon enough, everyone had finished eating their fill, Tai and Koromon both leaning back, looking stuffed from everything they ate.
Kari had managed to eat most of her food and was sipping at her milk.
DemiVeemon was curled up on Daisuke's lap, taking a small nap as his partner downed her glass of milk, happy at being able to drink something other than boiled water.
"Man, I am so full I won't have to eat for at least a year." Tai groaned.
"Oh, please. You'll be looking for food in, like, an hour or two." Daisuke scoffed.
"Oh, boy!" Koromon's face turned blue and he started sweating which made everyone turn to him.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Tai asked.
"So...full! I'd better go rest." Koromon groaned.
He then rushed off towards the bathroom, jumping up on the toilet to use it which made Daisuke and DemiVeemon sigh at this.
"Don't hide in the bathroom." Kari said as she stood outside the door.
"How embaressing. Why do you wanna hang out with someone who's such a pig?" Koromon asked looking upset.
"Because you're cute." Kari stated.
"Really?" Koromon asked.
"Yeah. Do you wanna hear what happened to me at school? We took a farm field trip and I slipped and fell in the pig pen." Kari said.
Head picking up at that, Daisuke had to grin as she remembered that day vaguely.
It had been the first time she had ever seen Kari not do something graceful and everyone had started laughing at her which made the two girls upset.
"Everyone was laughing at me, til Tai jumped in. Know what he did? He played in the mud with me like I'd really done it on purpose." Kari completed her story.
That memory was one of the moments where Daisuke had really began to admire Tai when she was a child, amazed by how kind he was.
If she had fallen into a pig pen, then there was no way her sister would ever jump in after her.
She would pull her out and then take her off to the bathroom to clean her up.
If anyone had started laughing at her, then Jun would threaten them to shut up and if no one did, she would punch the closest person who was laughing.
"Wow!" Koromon exclaimed.
"Tai really bugs me sometimes, but he is the coolest big brother in the world." Kari said.
"Yeah." Koromon smiled.
Lying down on the couch, Tai then began to relax as he turned on the TV and the AC just as Daisuke walked into the living room to join him.
"I'm really back. Ah, I used to hate that wind chime, now I love it. And I really miss sitting around watching TV with my friends. I miss Mom scolding Dad for not hanging up his shirts. Boy, it's good to be home." Tai yawned.
The news then began to play, the anchor man talking about the strange weather conditions while Daisuke walked over to the back of the couch, frowning down at the slumbering boy.
"Hate to break it to ya, but we can't stay. We need to get back to the others. We've been gone for only an hour, but to them, we've been missing for weeks or maybe even months. They probably think we're dead." Daisuke said.
She hated it when she had her moments of being the serious one.
Eyes opening, Tai stared up at the mahogany haired girl who was frowning down at him and he knew she was right.
"Hey, look, there's a Digimon on the TV!" DemiVeemon exclaimed as he pointed at it.
Gasping at that in shock, the two humans turned to the TV and saw the faded image of a familiar fiery Digimon.
"Meramon. And there's Seadramon!" Tai gasped when the news then showed an image of the sea dragon.
The broadcast then showed an image of America and there was snow falling from the sky while Frigimon was standing on top of one of the buildings in what looked to be New York.
"What? What is Frigimon doing here? Can somebody please tell me what's going on here? The Digimon are clearly on the TV screen, but the reporter hasn't mentioned them." Tai stared in shock.
"Hey, I remember this! I remember seeing those monsters on TV when I was a kid, but no one else could see them. I forgot all about it until now." Daisuke's eyes grew wide.
"Finally, someone else can see them." Kari said making everyone turn towards her in surprise.
"Are you saying you can see the monsters too?" Tai asked her.
"For a long time now. Mom and Dad don't believe me. They just think that I watch too many scary movies." Kari said.
"Kari..." Tai trailed off, unsure of what to say or do next.
Just then, the TV went black and the power in the apartment turned off.
Next, the Digivices began beeping loudly and lights were flashing on the screens.
"Hey, what's going on? My Digivice has activated itself." Tai said as he pulled out his Digivice.
"This isn't a good sign." Daisuke frowned as she held the device.
Usually when the Digivices acted that way, it meant that a Digimon had appeared in the Human World nearby.
Head turning when she heard a strange noise, Kari noticed that the electrical devices in the apartment were going off and were reacting strangely.
"What's wrong with the computer, Tai?" Kari asked when she saw the face of someone appear on the fuzzy screen.
"There's a face." She said making Tai and Daisuke both glance over.
"Can you hear me?" A familiar voice asked.
"Izzy?" Tai asked when he saw the blank face of the child of Knowledge.
"We... Danger!" Izzy said.
"What is this? How is Izzy on the computer?" Daisuke questioned.
"They...don't...it isn't. Tai, wherever you may be, don't come back here." Izzy warned.
"What did he just say?" Demiveemon's jaw dropped.
"I can't just leave you guys there, Izzy. I have to come back. I could be your only chance." Tai said as he held the computer between his hands.
"Digi-Monsters! Total chaos!" Izzy said as the screen continued to flicker.
"Wait, Izzy! I need help with the Digivice!" Tai told him.
"You're better off where you are. Don't come back." Izzy said.
"Izzy? Izzy!" Tai called as the screen went black.
Silence fell over the group as they stared at the black computer screen, unable to process what had just happened.
Izzy didn't sound or look quite like himself.
His face was blank and his eyes were completely dull, looking like the life had been sucked out of him.
"While we're here safe at home, my friends are in trouble." Tai said.
"What now?" Koromon asked.
"I don't know, Koromon. I just don't know." Tai sounded defeated as he stared down at his Digivice.
"Two worlds are in danger and I can't do a thing about it. I feel totally useless. I know this Digivice is powerful enough to do something, but I don't have a clue on how to make it work. Oh, man, I guess I should just quit while I'm ahead." Tai turned back to the others.
"But Tai, you can't." Koromon protested.
"Why can't I? What am I gonna do? Throw the Digivice at the monsters and hope they get scared and run away?" Tai snarked making Koromon moan sadly.
"Come on, Tai, just relax. Eat some water melon." Kari said.
Shaking her head at this, Daisuke began to grow very frustrated with how Tai seemed to be giving up so easily.
Gripping onto her Digivice tightly, she began to wish it was still a D-3 so she could open up a portal back to the Digital World herself.
"Tai, we're going to find a way back. I don't know how, but we will. I know that for a fact." Daisuke claimed.
"And how do you know that? Some kind of secrect future knowledge?" Tai scoffed.
"No. It's because I refuse to give up. I will never stop trying." Daisuke said.
Her words made her Crest begin to glow lightly, catching the attention of DemiVeemon, Koromon and Kari who stared in awe at the golden light coming from the white colored Crest.
Lifting his head at that, Tai then glanced over to Daisuke and saw that fierce look of determination on her face and reflecting in her eyes.
(Later...)
Koromon and Kari were eating water melon in the kitchen while Tai had gone into their bedroom to take a nap.
Daisuke and DemiVeemon had gone outside onto the balcony to look out over Odaiba, staring down at the familiar sights around them.
"Daisuke, do you think we'll get back to the Digital World?" DemiVeemon asked his partner.
"We will. I know we will. We just have to keep believing that. It's all we really have right now. It's not like the old days where we could go to the computer room at the school and use the D-3s to open up a portal there." Daisuke said.
Sighing, she felt the breeze blow in and gently blew back her hair from her face.
Ears twitching, DemiVeemon overheard Kari speaking to Koromon and he was stunned by how the girl seemed happy that the Digimon wouldn't be leaving and was stuck in the Human World.
The way how Kari was talking about the subject made her sound selfish and it was an uncharaistic thing for the child of Light.
Shaking his head at this, especially when he saw the sad look that appeared on Koromon's face when he realized he would never get home, DemiVeemon turned his back on them and continued to stare out at the city.
He and Daisuke were in a smiliar situation.
They were stuck in a different time period and wouldn't be able to return home unless they managed to destroy Apocalymon and they had no idea how they were going to do that.
Defeating MaloMyotismon was a miracle and it only happened because Daisuke wished very hard for the power to beat him and it had been granted, and it fueled everyone else with the strength to continue fighting instead of hiding in their dream worlds.
Just then, an earthquake started up making DemiVeemon cry out as he lost his footing and almost fell off the railing, but was caught by Daisuke who pulled him into her chest.
"What's going on now?" She asked as the ground continued to shake.
Yanking the glass door open, Tai then rushed outside to search for the cause of the quaking.
"Is it Seadramon again?" He asked.
Looking over tot he lake, everyone gasped at the sight of the large red dinosaur with green spikes on its body.
"It's a Tyrannomon!" Daisuke exclaimed.
"Oh no! What's he gonna do?" Tai asked.
Opening his mouth, Tyrannomon then released a blast of flames that hit a building.
"You just had to ask." Daisuke glared.
Backing away from the railing, Tai then ran inside the apartment and made his way over to the front door.
"Tai?" Kari gasped.
"What are you doing? What about me and Kari?" Koromon asked.
"She stays here. Kari, don't leave for any reason. We have to find that dimensional rift." Tai said as Daisuke pulled her shoes on.
"We've gotta find a way back to Digi-World!" Tai said as he picked up Koromon and ran out the door with Daisuke.
"No!" Kari cried as she watched them go.
Once they got outside, they ran off to where Tyrannomon was located, only to see the dinosaur was fading away from sight.
"What-What happened? He's gone." Tai said.
"Yeah, and now we have a new problem." Daisuke said as there was an explosion and a Drimogamon drilled his way out of the ground.
"It's Drimogamon!" Tai gasped as they started running once again.
As they ran off, they passed by a store that had TVs in the window and the reporter spoke of people claiming to have seen monsters in the street.
"There he is." Tai said as he and Daisuke stopped by the subway.
"And there he goes." Daisuke gritted her teeth her annoyance when the Digimon faded away into the mist.
"No way! Maybe this is a dream. The Digimon are drifting back and forth between both worlds through that dimensional rift. We have to find it and get through it before those monsters destroy Earth and Digi-World! It'll take all of us working together to stop them. We've got to get back." Tai declared.
"Even if we did, I can't help you. Inspite of all I've eaten, I can't seem to digivolve, so I can't fight. I'd just get in the way." Koromon hopped out of Tai's arms.
The poor In-Training looked distressed and defeated, not ready for a battle and was upset because of this fact.
"I need you, Koromon. We can't win unless we fight as a team. Don't you give up now." Tai said as tears started to fill his eyes.
"Tai! Koromon! Wait for me, I wanna go with you!" Kari called as she ran over to them.
"And now there's this problem." Daisuke growled.
It was bad enough she had to deal with the dramas of Tai and Kormon, but now they also had to keep a sick and weakened Kari from any Digimon who might appear and attack them.
At this moment in time, it was crucial to keep the little brunette safe from any and all dangers.
Shocked that they had been followed, Tai ran up to his sister and gripped her shoulders while Koromon stared at the ground sadly.
"Kari, I told you not to leave home. You can't go with us. It's too dangerous." Tai told her.
"Please, Tai. Oh, please, please." Kari begged helplessly.
"No, Kari. You can't be here right now. You have to get back inside where it's safe." Daisuke told her as she walked up beside Tai.
"Tai, Daisuke, Kari! It's Ogremon!" Koromon warned.
Gasping, the trio looked off to the side to find Ogremon standing among a crowd of people across the street.
People were passing by the large Digimon, looking as though they didn't see him at all.
"But the people don't seem to notice him!" Koromon said.
"How is that possible?" DemiVeemon asked.
"What's he doing? He's just standing there waiting for the light to change. Maybe if we wait, he'll disappear like the others." Tai said as Kari hid behind him.
"Yeah, or we should do the smart thing and start running and lead him away from all of the people." Daisuke frowned.
Once the light changed to green, Ogremon growled and he rushed at the children, club raised and ready to attack.
Scarlet eyes narrowed, DemiVeemon then jumped out of Daisuke's arms as her Digivice lit up.
"DemiVeemon digivolve too... VEEMON!"
As Ogremon came closer, Veemon jumped at him and rammed his head into the larger male's stomach, knocking him back.
"Go, Veemon!" Daisuke called.
Grabbing Veemon, Ogremon then tossed him to the side before he then jumped at Koromon, slamming his club onto the ground and making the humans duck for cover.
Getting back up, Veemon rammed into Ogremon and sent him rolling away from the humans before chasing after him.
"Are you okay?" Tai asked Kari.
"Koromon?" Kari called as she looked around.
"Koromon, where are you?" Tai asked when he saw the three Digimon had gone missing.
"Veemon, where'd you go?" Daisuke asked as she looked around in worry.
"They're up there! They're trying to fight that monster!" Kari pointed up at a building.
Turning to look, the children of Courage and Miracles watched as Koromon and Veemon jumped up the building, leading Ogremon away from their partners.
Bouncing off a building, Koromon blew bubbles at Ogremon, but it had no effect on the Champion level who continued chasing after him, destroying the balcony Koromon bounced off of.
Jumping up after them, Veemon then started hitting Ogremon with a barrage of punches, making the green Digimon cross his arms to block the attack.
"Koromon, digivolve!" Tai called up to him, gripping his Digivice tightly.
"I can't do it unless you use the Digivice." Koromon called down to Tai as Ogremon slapped Veemon across the face, sending him crashing into the street.
"Veemon! Hold on, I'm coming!" Daisuke called as she ran over to the dragon.
"I don't know what's wrong, but the Digivice isn't working! You're just gonna have to digivolve without it!" Tai called up to him.
Picking Veemon up in her arms, Daisuke looked him over in worry before she then stood up.
"I just can't." Koromon said.
"You can do it, Koromon." Kari told him.
Distracted from talking to the Kamiya siblings, Koromon didn't notice Ogremon charging at him until the last second and was hit by the club as the Champion destroyed part of the building behind them.
"Koromon! Digivolve!" Tai yelled as his Digivice released a blue light.
A golden light opened in the sky and cast a halo of light down onto the street.
"Look, the dimensional rift is opening up just like a mega vaccum cleaner. Koromon, help!" Tai cried.
"Koromon digivolve too...AGUMON!"
"About time." Veemon muttered as he rubbed at his sore head.
"Hurry, Agumon!" Tai called over to the dinosaur.
Falling out of the sky, Agumon then landed on a street light and fired off his Pepper Breath when Ogremon charged at him, sending the larger Digimon upwards.
"Take a hike." Tai frowned as Ogremon was sucked up into the portal.
Then Agumon began to rise into the air as well.
Gasping when she felt her body became lighter, Daisuke glanced down to see she was hovering above the ground.
"Are we flying?" Veemon asked when he noticed they were rising into the air.
"I think we're going back now." Daisuke said.
"Agumon, come back!" Tai shouted.
"I'm needed in Digi-World. I'll never forget you, my friends. Thanks for your help." Agumon said before he faded away.
"Wait, take me with you! You still need my help. Agumon!" Tai cried.
"Tai, you need to hurry!" Daisuke called gaining his attention.
Glancing over, Tai's eyes grew wide when he saw Daisuke, who was still holding Veemon in her arms, rising into the air and her hair came undone from its ponytail, her ribbon fluttering through the wind as it fell back down to the Earth as the duo of Miracles faded away.
"No, wait for me!" Tai called as he moved forward, but was stopped by someone grabbing onto his arm.
"Tai, please, stay with me!" Kari begged as she held onto his arm with both hands.
"No, go wait for Mom and Dad." Tai told her.
"I'm so sorry." Kari said as she buried her face in his back.
"Why?" Tai asked.
"You're right. I know you have to leave." Kari said.
"I really do. Okay?" Tai looked down sadly, hating the fact that he had to leave his sister.
"Okay." Kari stared up at him.
"Agumon can't digivolve without me. This is my fight too." Tai said.
Lifting his fist that held the Digivice into the air, Tai then began to slowly drift up towards the portal and stared down at Kari who was hesitant to let go of his hand.
"Please, be careful." Kari said as tears filled her eyes.
Tai continued to rise into the air, getting higher as Kari struggled to continue holding his hand, standing up on her tippy toes as she tried to hold onto him for just a bit longer.
Finally, he was too high and she lost her grip on him, watching as her brother was pulled into another world.
"Good-bye, Kari!" Tai called down to the girl.
"Bye-bye, Tai! Don't forget about me!" Kari called up to him.
Her brother fully disappeared from her sight just as the portal closed and she stared up at the sky sadly.
Seeing something red out of the corner of her eye, Kari noticed a red ribbon and she walked over to it, picking it up and staring at it curiously.
To be continued...
