Chapter 6—Going Prom Dress Shopping, Again!
April 27th, 2000
Bella's POV
Connie had dragged me and Julie from store to store in the Mall after school today. I had selected a yellow off the shoulder A-line dress. Connie fought me over the color and wanted me in a deep purple and I of course wanted red. When Julie came with the yellow dress we compromised. I had to get a strapless bra. It was while we were walking out of Macy's we saw Tammy walking in the other direction, she was crying.
"Tammy? Tammy Duncan is that you?" I said.
"Yeah," Tammy said, and she sniffled.
"What's wrong?" Connie asked.
"Everything, I don't know how to tell Fulton," Tammy said.
"Tell Fulton, what?" I asked.
"That I can't go with him to prom. My grandmother found out about it and had a cow. She is now waiting for me to return this beautiful dress that Daddy got for me. Said that it is inappropriate that I go to a dance and now I don't know how to tell Fulton," Tammy said.
"Oh Tammy, I'm sorry," Connie said.
"Me too," Julie said.
"That is so stupid, it's just a dance, there is going to be lots of people there it's not like Fulton would do anything to disgrace you," I said.
"Agreed," Julie and Connie said.
"Fulton is not that kind of guy; he toes the line just like anybody else would. Yeah he might bend the rules, but he doesn't break them," I said.
"I know but still my grandmother is insistent that I return the dress," Tammy said crying.
"I got it, we were all getting together at Bella's to get ready for prom, right?" Connie said.
"Yeah so?" Julie said.
"So, Tammy what if you were to say that we are going to have a girls sleepover weekend, this weekend from Friday night until Sunday at noon and you tell your grandmother that us girls decided to skip the prom and you want to really hang out with us girls for the weekend," Connie said.
"What about your parents Bella? Won't they tell the truth," Tammy said.
"Please my dad's a lawyer, besides after we have left for the prom they are going to the country club for the evening for dinner, themselves," I said.
"What do I do about the dress?" Tammy said.
"Here give it to me and I will take it over to my house and you can wear it Saturday night," I said.
"We would just have to sneak it past your grandmother when it comes back from the cleaners," Connie said.
"Ok," Tammy said.
"Come on dry your eyes you have a lie to pull off," Julie said handing Tammy a tissue out of her purse.
"Thank you," Tammy said.

The lie worked with Tammy's grandmother, she bought it hook, line and sinker. Her dad was going to sneak away for a little bit on Saturday evening so he could come over and watch Tammy go off to the prom. So, it was just us girls Connie, Julie, Tammy, Avery, and Natalie spending the weekend at my house.
"This house hasn't been this full of girls in never," Dad said.
"You're wrong, dear, remember Adam and Bella's 8th birthday party, we had two sleepover's at the same time," Mom said.
"Oh," Dad said.
"So, Prom is on the agenda tomorrow night, what are you girls doing tonight?" Mom asked.
"Movies, games, the hot tub, talk about boys," Connie said.
"Very good," Mom said.
"Thanks Mom and Dad," I said.
"Of course, Bella, baby," Mom said.
"Anything for my Issy," Dad said.
