Mini Chapter 6: We will meet again
Darkness, It was all that the pegasus could see. She didn't know how she got there; only that she somehow fell out of the world and floated in the realms between ever since. She wasn't the only one, however. Looking around, she saw other monsters floating with her. Some of her own kind, others completely different. One thing they all shared in common, however, is that their voices could not be heard, as if a spell of silence had been cast over them all.
An infinite void, where I can only float—what kind of hell is this? But… I can't remember when I arrived or how I even got here. It's almost as if... as if I died. Yeah… I guess that makes sense.
The pegasus closed her eyes as she slowly accepted the embrace of death. That was until she felt a rumble—the first feeling felt in a while. Opening her eyes once more, she saw the void around her start to crack and shift into a swirl of rainbows. Thoughts about being in hell stopped as the crack opened up into a rift, sucking her and everyone else in.
She passed out once again. And once she awoke, she found herself in an area unfamiliar to her. All around her were the monsters that floated with her, all of them running wild and attacking the nearest settlement. She also felt this feeling, her mind yelling at her to run wild. Despite that, her own instincts told her to do the opposite and run as far away as she could. Not being one to ignore her gut feeling, she took off, flying as fast as she could, not stopping, even for a moment.
For days, she would fly without rest, What she was fleeing from, she had no idea. She only knew that she should get away from whatever was trying to control her mind. Finally, after another day of nonstop flight, she felt her mind finally calming down. But along with that, she felt the fatigue of her long flight catch up to her, and she violently crashed into the ground. Looking around her, she found that she was in another settlement, this one completely different.
Her memory of before was faint, but she remembered crossing a border of some kind during her travels. Not that it mattered anyway; she was bleeding out, and her body refused to take flight once again. With no options left, the pegasi limped over to a farmhouse and snuck inside the barn.
Once inside, she collapsed onto a pile of hay and closed her eyes. She didn't get time to rest, however, as she felt a presence approach. A cruel twist of fate indeed. Her mother taught her many things, but the one lesson she took to heart was about humanity. According to her mother, humans were a cruel and dangerous species. Being caught by one would lead to enslavement or death, no in between.
Unable to do anything, the horse prepared for her fate. But as the human approached, the pain from her wounds became more bearable, as she was healed by its magic. They weren't all gone; some of the heavier ones she sustained still ached. But she was still impressed by the display.
Was that magic? But she didn't use a gem or paper. Is magic without a medium even possible?
The horse painfully stood up, still weary of the human. She did, however, finally get a good look at its face. Or more accurately, her face. It was a green-haired girl, wearing an equally green dress. She was also a bit scared of the pegasus but continued her efforts in attempting to heal it. The pegasus also got a better look at her magic. It was similar to the songs another monster race would use, but instead of singing, it was a chant.
The one she used before was lower-leveled and didn't do much for the heavy wounds she bore. So this time, the lass did a longer chant, increasing the potency of her magic and fully healing the pegasi's wounds.
After she did, the two stood around, waiting for the other to act. After a bit, she left the farmhouse and returned some hay, a gift the pegasus immediately scarfed down. After her meal, her smile quickly turned into a frown as she faced the door. She couldn't stay here; she knew that. She had to keep flying; she had to find a way back home if there even was anyone.
Dropping a few feathers on the ground, the pegasus spread her wings and leaped into the air. She flew for a while again but decided to take a break so she didn't crash again. Landing in a forest, she was quickly hypnotized by the captivating smell. Following it, she found some cooked meat on the ground, along with a pretty obvious cage hanging above it.
This has to be the work of the humans. The pegasus thought as she backed away.
Even though she noticed the obvious trap, she couldn't deduce that it was only the first layer. As she turned her back on the cage, a couple of hunters immediately sprang out from a nearby bush and pinned down their target with chains and magic. However, once they got a better look, they quickly became disappointed at the result.
"Damn it, Kenta! You said the meat will attract the bear; this is a horse!""
"It's not my fault a horse came here first!" Kenta argued.
"Umm, you guys, this isn't a normal horse."
"What the hell do you mean by that?" The muscular hunter asked.
"It seems this one has... wings?"
"Are you saying this horse... Is it actually a bird? Is that what you're claiming, Laylin?"
"Umm, probably?"
"Probably doesn't help!" The man sighed. "Just put it with the rest. We'll take it back to that monster guy along with the bear. If it even exists."
"Yes, boss!" Both hunters shouted. The duo bound the horse even more and tossed her into the back of a cart, where only an usapil and herself stayed. The horse did all it could to break out, but the chains were too strong for the beast to handle. Destroying any plans she had of escaping.
With a sigh, the pegasus looked into the air. Her mother warned her something like this would happen one day, so she took one last look at the sky, for she felt she wasn't going to be soaring through it any time soon.
