Neb: I do not own Hunter X Hunter
With the death of the Dojo Master, Minaga and Yujima were down to investigating four nen users. They were aware that two of their suspects were on there way to becoming pro hunters. The only problem was, finding the Hunter Exam isn't an easy task. Minaga managed to pickpocket the old man in hopes of finding more information, but there wasn't a map or anything on the Dojo Master. He did find the Dojo master's hunting license however, perhaps that could be of use.
"So what's our next move?", Yujima asked. Minaga laid back on a bench while he thought for a moment.
"Finding the Exams will be hard, but it'll be easier then looking for the people entering the exams. For instance, we were able to find the Karate Dojo master, because we made the connection that he would head to Heaven's Arena. Apparently, he wasn't there to compete, but instead recruit people as hunters. So the only logical step is to find someone he may have recruited. If that's the case we can follow them to the Hunter Exam." Yujima nodded and Minaga sighed as he sat up.
"So we follow the old man's body," Yujima suggested. "Someone he recruited might be interested in figuring out how he died."
"Possibly," Minaga shrugged. "However, if I were recruited by someone who died the same day, I'd be more careful then following my recruiters dead body..."
"So then what if a person he recruited saw you with him before the karate master died?", Yujima pointed out. "Why aren't you behind bars yet?"
"Because the recruit wants to take me out his or herself," Minaga guessed. "In other words, we have to split up again. You keep watch of me and don't let me out of your sight. I'll step into an area where there are no people around. Then whoever the old man was here to recruit will be confident enough to chase me down."
"We'll have to capture that person alive," Yujima pointed out. "That'll be more trouble then just sniping them."
"Then aim for their legs instead of their head," Minaga decided. "Then we interrogate the recruit until they give us the location of the hunter exam." Yujima nodded and then headed away from Minaga. The truth was, Minaga already had an idea of who was recruited by the old man, because before he confronted the old man he used Gyo to check if the old man had allies. The only reason none of his allies jumped to his defense was because they were waiting for the sniper to show himself. Now that Yujima had talked to Minaga they we'll safely bet that he was the sniper. Which means, Yujima would be the actual target instead of Minaga. Minaga started walking off in a direction away from people. Perhaps he should have notified his ally that he'd be the target... No, it's better Yukima didn't know. Because when a predator hunts their prey, they want their prey to be unaware of their presence. That means using Yujima as bait will only work if he's kept in the dark. Minaga turned around finally and used his Gyo once more. He found two nen tracking devices that were shaped like tiny kittens, one on himself and the other on Yujima. He texted Yujima to head up to a rooftop where he can snipe easier and Yujima did as instructed. Just as Minaga thought, the nen user followed behind Yujima istead of following Minaga. Minaga then headed towards the building Yujima entered. He texted Yujima to hid in an empty room on the forth floor. Yujima did as instructed. Minaga headed up the stairs towards the forth floor. The nen user was a young girl with black pigtails, glasses, and freckles. So she's the recruit huh. It made since given the old man's prodigy was also a young girl, but that still didn't explain why he wanted the Blacksmith or the woman that was with him. Perhaps that was a decision created by this Vice-Chairman he brought up and not his own decision. Still it was time to get this nen user off Yujima's back. "Hey kid," Minaga called up the stairs. The girl froze and turned around with drops of sweat on her face. She was inexperienced, just like Minaga and Yujima were. The only difference was Yujima and Minaga were grown men and she was a little girl.
"W-what do you want?", she responded. She had her finger pointed at him... no it was pointed at the tiny cat on his shoulder. Could it be a bomb?
"I'd like to ask a few questions," he explained as he held up the old man's hunter's license. It was a risky move, especially since the girl may know that he stole it from her recruiter.
"A hunter," she gasped. "Wait, how do I know that isn't a fake license."
"It's not," he responded. "This was all a test for the Hunter Exam." Her eyes widened and she bowed her head politely.
"S-sorry for mt insolence," she apologized. "Did I pass or fail?"
"That depends if you answer my questions correctly," Minaga lied. "First question, what is the name of your target?"
"I... I don't know," she responded.
"A good hunter always gathers more information before running after their target blindly," he bluffed. "Second question. What was the name of your recruiter?"
"I... the old man didn't say," she sighed. She was sure she failed the test now.
"Not very well informed are you," Minaga sighed. "Do you at least know where he was sending you?" This was it, if his bluff works She'll tell him where the hunter Exams are."
"You don't know already?", she questioned back.
"Crap," Minaga thought. She didn't buy it. "I want to hear you say it? How do I know I'm even talking to the right recruit?"
"How indeed?" she smiled. Her confidence was returning back to her. Somehow she deduced he was lying this whole time. Now Minaga had to be worried. She has whatever her nen ability was attached to him and wasn't falling for his bluffs anymore. Minaga then let out a laugh that he hoped made it sound like he knew the conversation was headed this way the whole time.
"I see why the old man recruited you," Minaga grinned. "Unfortunately this is a dangerous time. There's a sniper on the loose that killed the old man in front of me. I called an associate to lure out the sniper, but instead we got your attention."
"You changed your story," she pointed out. "You said you were testing me."
"That was a lie," he responded truthfully this time. "The Hunter Exam will be much harder, I'll let you be on your way," he then went back to bluffing. Hopefully he gained her confidence with one little truth, at least enough that he could lie freely. She snapped her finger and the cats disappeared.
"Fine," she sighed. "I was hoping to go after the sniper my self... I'll let you handle it." She moved to Minaga and hugged him. When she did so she placed her thumb on the back of his neck. "But don't think for a second I am naive. You tell your sniper I'll be coming for him when I become a Pro Hunter. She then headed down the stairs and out the door. He checked himself with Gyo to see if any other cats were placed on him, but he appeared to be clean. He then headed up to Yujima.
"I found the target," he spoke up. "Let's go." Yujima nodded, unaware that he was used as bait. That was for the best. Yujima wasn't exactly disposable given how useful his ability was, but in order to achieve their goal, Minaga will have to resort to immoral tactics. That's just how things are going to be until their job is done.
