Noswyl wakes up feeling extremely refreshed as even the orphanage beds weren't as comfortable as the bed in this hotel.

Bartholomew and Gregory meanwhile have finished their preparations and are ready to start tracking their target…

Well that was a good sleep but it's dark outside and I went to sleep at around 11 pm yesterday so I've been asleep for a while, I should get moving.

Noswyl doesn't get out of the bed for another hour before finally getting up.

I hate when that happens, I should learn some self discipline but I mean everyone doesn't want to get out of bed sometimes right?

Anyway I'm starving and I don't think this hotel has dinner but it should have room service.

The problem is that I need to somehow make my voice deeper ,because why would a child order food through room service? but because I am not only using wand less magic but I don't even know any theory behind anything I shouldn't be limited as heavily.

So I made the silencing spell by making it act sort of like a crystal and changing the sound waves that pass through it into a pitch that isn't audible to humans, this of course means that some sound gets through but I didn't really think it would work at all so it's still a success.

Now all I need to do is change the frequency to something audible on the low end and it should be believable enough.

Noswyl immediately starts experimenting with the spell and finds it similar to a distortion filter, so to remedy this he makes it smaller and puts it in his throat slightly above his voice box.

"Hello there, the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. Do re mi fo sa" I'm pretty sure that isn't the correct vocal progression but I don't remember it that well. Overall it's not bad my voice is way deeper and it sounds natural but it's quiet, that should be fine though.

Noswyl goes to his bedside table and looks at the sheet beside the phone and dials room service.

I'm really glad I learned how to use a rotary phone in my past life.

The voice of a tired young man picks up the phone "room service how can we help you?"

"Yes thank you, my room number is 203 and I would like to order some food for me and my son"

"Of course, what do you want then sir?"

"I would like two steak and fries and two glasses of milk, and one chicken quesadilla please. Also 6 bottled watersfor the road."

The young man makes a small grunt of surprise "ok that'll be 56.89"

"Alright, please leave it at the door when it's delivered."

About 40 minutes later Noswyl hears a knock on the door and after waiting for a couple seconds he opens the door and grabs the food.

"Oh this looks good, hopefully the protein and carbs should make the next leg of the journey a little better"

He devours the entire meal besides the water bottles of course and is absolutely stuffed, but he knows he's spent a bit too much time in one place so he stacks the plates on the bed and returns to the lobby.

He realizes he hasn't paid for the food and he feels a little guilty so he leaves a couple bills behind the counter, even if they are American it should be fine.

Now I need to get a backpack or somethingto carry all my shit.

He looks down at his clothes which are thankfully only slightly out of style but he does look ridiculous because he stuffed a ton of money and six water bottles wherever he could fit them. He quickly finds a store, and he leaves all his stuff under a dumpster and covers the crack under it with some trash bags.

He enters the store with only his stolen debit card and looks around for anything useful. He quickly finds almost everything he needs except for a couple items which weren't strictly necessary that he couldn't find. Paying for his purchases and collecting his stuff he left under the dumpster he starts his trek to Newport again.

Ok so I have six water bottles, a toothbrush and toothpaste, an entire pack of granola bars, a protein powder thing, and two bottles of gatorade. That should be enough to last me until I can find my way to diagon alley.

Bartholomew and Gregory have arrived in Wales through a separate portkey and have made their way to the port key that was originally used by the intruder.

Gregory looks at the portkey "there is nothing amiss the portkey itself, so let's see if there's anything in the area that will give us a lead."

Bartholomew nods and starts looking around for physical clues while Gregory looks around for any magical residue.

Gregory finds something and calls Bartholomew over "well there is Magical residue here but it's certainly strange, did you find anything?"

Bartholomew shakes his head "nothing, not even a hair."

Gregory nods in understanding "so the magic flows that way." He says pointing behind them. "But it doesn't go very far so someone was using magic in the opposite direction of where they were going."

Bartholomew looks at Gregory confused "but why would someone do that, besides to fool low level detection spells?"

Gregory shrugs "eh it doesn't really matter why they did it but we can always question them when we capture them."

Bartholomew nods and looks towards where he thinks the trail of magic leads, not that he can actually see it. "Ok lead the way, by the way what is strange about the magic?" He asks as they start walking.

Gregory thinks about how to explain it to Bartholomew for a moment. "Well all magic has a nexus point that it comes from aka the foci, of course wand less magic is a thing but only extremely skilled individuals can use it."

Bartholomew nods again but is still confused "so the magic was done wand less?"

Gregory snorts amusedly "probably not, it's very amateur work I can't believe that I got so caught up in the moment that I thought the criminal was a magical genius."

Bartholomew chuckles slightly "well everyone certainly did but how did they do this anyway?"

Gregory turns towards Bartholomew with a deadly serious face "I have no fucking clue!" He says laughing at Bartholomew's expression

Bartholomew sighs "ha ha very funny but we do have a mission to do that's rather important we don't fail."

Gregory grumbles "yeah, yeah I know that."

They continue walking for about an hour before they arrive in a clearing in a forest where the magic stops.

Gregory looks around and nods to Bartholomew "the trail ends here, whatever magic they were using they stopped using here."

Bartholomew looks around "so where'd they go after this?"

Gregory eyes swivel in every direction like a certain mad eye moody, before locking in on a direction. He points so Bartholomew could visualize where the person went "they went that way, as you should know by now all Wizards and Witches leave behind a faint signature everywhere they go unless they try and stop it."

Bartholomew looks at Gregory unimpressed having heard this a billion times "yeah and almost every magical civilization restricts this information to make it easier to track criminals." He says in an almost rehearsed fashion.

Gregory nods and starts walking away following the trail looking at the floor to make sure not to lose it, Bartholomew follows him and they eventually stop at a tree.

Bartholomew looks at the tree trying to figure out what's wrong with it and he can't find anything out of place "so what's the deal with this tree?"

Gregory looks between a hole in the tree and the base of it "I don't understand the purpose of whatever they did here but this tree had transfiguration performed on it."

Bartholomew gets closer to the tree and looks into the small hole in it that looks like a large woodpecker hole. "This hole is too smooth to be natural and by the looks of it , it curves down."

After a bit more investigation they remove all the dirt that was transfigured and look into the small area underneath the roots of the tree.

Gregory sees some magic residue on the floor with it being similar to a charm "hmm it's a bit strange but if I had to guess they casted Spongify on the ground to make it softer, for a makeshift bed."

Bartholomew looks into the hole "that was a tight fit, but I think I've got a clue about who we're dealing with here. Considering that we didn't find any footprints and this little hideout our perpetrator is likely a muggle born, as this looks like it was designed to prevent their tracking methods."

Gregory returns the dirt underneath the tree and looks to Bartholomew "a good idea, you are probably correct though let's not jump to conclusions. That's what got us punished in the first place."

Bartholomew looks a bit sheepish at having already accepted his own theory but nods in acquiescence, Gregory's eyes start spinning again and it takes longer this time but he eventually finds the trail.

They start following it again, eventually coming upon a river where the magical residue trail starts following it up stream. They start trekking up stream as well knowing the trail will fade eventually they go at a hurried pace not knowing how far the criminal traveled…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I know I said that I would make a longer chapter but I'll be honest if I make one longer than this it feels like I'm stretching it out and I could just split it into two chapters.
Just let me know how you would prefer it:)
