Chapter 28 Convey Feelings Through Song
Ichika's POV
Youthful/Friends was preparing for our rehearsal, when Saki suddenly spoke up.
"Everyone", she started. "Before we begin with rehearsal, there's something I want to show you guys."
"What is it, Saki", Airi asked
"Well", Saki started. "The other day, after our meeting with Akiyama-San, Ichi-Chan suggested that we make an original song to use in our music video!"
"Make an original song to use in our music video", Ena repeated in shock.
"That's a great idea guys", Airi praised.
"I know, right", Saki said. "Anyway, I finished a rough draft for the song yesterday, and I wanted you guys to give it a listen and tell me what you think."
"You have a rough draft already", I asked in shock. "That was fast."
"I was actually struggling to come up with ideas at first", Saki revealed. "But, once I realised what I wanted to convey with my song, it's like the ideas just started flowing out of me!"
"That's great, Saki", Ena said.
"What are you waiting for then", Airi asked excitedly. "Play us your song so we can hear it!"
"Okie dokie", Saki said, before going up to her keyboard. She took a deep breath, and then…began playing her song.
As she played, we all look at her in shock.
This song. When I listen to it, it makes me feel…like I'm having fun?
After playing for a bit longer, Saki's song ended.
"So", she started nervously. "What do you guys think? It's just a rough draft, so it probably doesn't sound that good at the moment?"
"Are you kidding", Airi asked. "That was great, Saki!"
"Really", Saki asked in shock.
"Yeah", Ena replied. "If that's just a rough draft, then I can't wait to hear the final product!"
"I agree", I added. "I think you did a great job, Saki."
After Saki heard all of our praises, a huge smile came to her face.
"Thanks so much, guys", she said happily. "I'm so happy that you all like my song!"
"Saki", I started. "How did you come up with your song?"
"Toya helped me out", Saki revealed.
"Toya", Ena asked. "How did he help you?"
"Onii-Chan told me that he composes songs for their group, and suggested that I meet up with him", I revealed. "When I talked to him about how I was struggling to come up with something, he told that he went through the same thing when he was trying to compose his first song. But, he said once he figured out who he wanted to 'deliver his sound to' he was able to figure it out!"
"Who he wanted to deliver his sound to", I repeated.
"Once I got back home, I began thinking about who I wanted to 'deliver my sound to.'", Saki revealed. "And, I realised it was you guys!"
"Us", Ena asked in shock.
"Ever since we all became a band, I've gotten to do a bunch of fun stuff with you", Saki pointed out. "I wanted to compose a song that would capture how I feel when we're together doing stuff like that."
"Saki", I said, touched by her words. Then, I nodded with determination. "Now that I understand the feelings that went into your song, I'll try my best to write lyrics that convey them."
That Night
After practice was done, I went straight home and began trying to write lyrics. But…it was turning out to be harder than I thought it.
I wrote down some keywords based on what Saki told me, but when I tried to turn those into lyrics, nothing came to me.
After staring at my notebook for a while, I leaned back and let out a sigh of frustration.
"This is harder than it looks", I said to myself, before sitting up straight again. "What should I do?"
After thinking for a bit, I came up with an idea.
"I know! I'll listen to the lyrics of some of my favourite Virtual Singer songs for inspiration!"
After I said this, I grabbed my phone and started searching up Virtual Singer songs. However, as I was scrolling through the internet, an announcement for something else caught my attention.
"What's this", I asked myself, before clicking on it. "It's…a Virtual Singer concert? And it's going to be held in Shibuya?!"
