Jordan- 10

Saturdays. It was perfect for the small Voight family. Jordan didn't have school, Justin didn't work his part time job, and occasionally Hank had a rare day off to be with his children.

One early Saturday morning, Jordan woke at her usual time 7 am, she quickly went to the bathroom and did her business. She then kept her pajamas on and ran to her brother's room, her brown hair flying all over as she bounced onto his bed and onto his stomach making him wake up with a groan, he peeked his eye open to see his little sister smiling and giggling.

"Watcha doing kiddo?" Justin asked, his voice a bit groggy.

"It's Saturday. Time for our Saturday morning rituals" Jordan spoke with a smile.

That made the elder man smile, every Saturday morning the two siblings would get up. Justin would make his sister breakfast and they would spend the morning watching cartoons and then play in the backyard.

"What's for breakfast today?"

"Pancakes and eggs"

"Pancakes and eggs it is. Now hop off my stomach before I pee on the bed"

"Eww Justin" She giggled.

"Go get ready"

She hopped off him and the bed and went downstairs, he got up and went to the bathroom to do his business. Finally he went downstairs to see his sister have the pancake mix out and dumping the white powder into a bowl, the dust covering her face and hair.

"Nice look kiddo," Justin told his sister from behind.

She whipped around getting the dust in the air some, before she could say anything she sneezed a couple times. Justin chuckled and went to wipe her face.

"Let's do this"

The two siblings began working on their breakfast, Justin added the water to the mix and stirred it up while his younger sister went and got the eggs. She set the carton on the cabinet and then went back for the juice.

Once Justin had the batter ready he grabbed a pan and buttered it, he poured three small circles onto the pan then turned the heat on and waited for them to cook. He turned to see his sister getting the plates ready along with a couple glasses. Looking back at the pan he saw he had to flip the pancakes before they burnt. Once the first three had been finished he continued making more, he had a feeling with his father not home he was out working on an important case. Most days with their father gone all the time with his job, he felt more like his sister's father.

Justin was lost in his thoughts but snapped out of it when he felt his sister tug on his shirt, he looked down and saw her looking up at him with her big chocolate brown eyes. Eyes that remind him of not only himself but their father.

"What's up kid?"

"Are you alright?"

"I'm just fine, go set up the tv so we'll be ready. How do you want your eggs?"

"Scrambled with cheese"

"Coming up"

Soon Justin had made pancakes with the rest of the remaining batter and made his father a plate putting it to the side. He then started on the eggs. He cracked some into a bowl and stirred them, he poured them into a different pan after putting some butter in it. He dumped the liquid egg in the pan and grabbed the cheese from the fridge. He grabbed the bag of shredded cheese and took a handful sprinkling it on top of the pan of raw eggs. Grabbing a new spatula he turned the heat on and started mixing the cheese in with the eggs.

Within a few minutes the eggs were ready he separated three helpings onto the three plates. He wrapped his father's plate and put it in the microwave. Jordan took the plates to the living room and put them on the table. She ran back for the juice and set them on the table and finally she went back for the syrup. Justin stuck the dirty dishes into the dishwasher and dumped the soap in but hadn't started it yet.

Once the kitchen was clean and straightened he went to join his sister in the living room. She turned the tv on as the Saturday cartoons began to play, Justin knew this was dumb and for kids like his sister. But as long as it made her happy, he didn't care. The ten-year-old sat on the floor eating her breakfast with her eyes glued to the tv singing the song to the show.

"Power Rangers roar! There's a Light in the Distance, See them Coming Closer With the Force of Ages Of Centuries Gone By. Protectors of the right. Defenders sworn to fight. Dino Rangers roar! Power Rangers score! Save us from these evil forces! Power Rangers Dino Thunder! Victory is ours forever more. Protectors of the right. Defenders sworn to fight. Power Rangers Dino Thunder! Dino Rangers roar! Power Rangers Dino Thunder! Power Rangers score! Power Rangers Dino Thunder! Save us from these evil forces! Power Rangers Dino Thunder! Dino Rangers win! Power Rangers Dino Thunder! Power from within! Power Rangers Dino Thunder! Victory is ours forever more! Power Rangers Dino Thunder!" She sang perfectly.

"Nice singing kiddo"

She blushed slightly. "Thanks"

The siblings watched the cartoons, when Jordan was finished eating she hopped on the couch and snuggled with her brother. Justin had moved his arm around his baby sister with his hand and he gently smoothed down her silky brown hair. He loved his sister more than anything.

When she was born he had been reborn, what he hadn't told anyone was his sister had saved him. He was going down a dark path after his mother died. Got into all sorts of trouble. When Hank told him he was going to be an older brother he smiled brightly. His once locked up heart opened. The day his baby sister was placed in his arms his heart opened and grew so much it could have bursted open. And he got to be the one to name her. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for his sister.

Jordan had looked up at her brother and gently placed her hand on his cheek, something she had always done even as a baby. As if she were trying to get his attention or if he was angry she tried to calm him. The elder man felt a soft warm presence on his face as he looked down at his sister.

"You alright kiddo? Ate too much?"

"Are you alright? You looked zoned out"

"I'm good kiddo" He leaned his head down and kissed her head. "Let's finish the cartoons and then we can head outside before it rains"

Jordan smiled and the two watched them till they went off for the morning. The excited ten-year-old ran to her room and put on a costume she made. It was a red and white spandex costume and a helmet, she had a small fake sword and a ball blaster.

"I got you now" Jordan says, under the helmet looking at her brother.

When the elder man looked over at his sister he smiled, she reminded him of the same innocence he had when he was her age. Before he lost his mother. That's what he wanted to let her have some innocence before life became a royal bitch and started throwing crap at her.

"I don't think so" He spoke in a playful voice.

"Surrender now"

"Try and catch me if you can"

Justin didn't care if he was still in his pajamas or not, he slipped his shoes on and ran out the front door leaving it open for her to follow him. Jordan followed when she hadn't seen her brother she looked and Justin came out from behind the door hoisting her up tickling her.

Before Jordan could react she bursted out in a fit of giggles. She tried to get free and eventually Justin had let her down and the two ran in the yard chasing each other. The young Voight pulled the ball blaster and fired it at him, one had hit him the others missed.

"You got me mini ranger, but the fight is far from over"

"It seems over to me"

He ran back over and picked her up. "Now do you surrender?"

"Never"

"Wrong answer"

He began tickling her stomach again making the fits of giggle return. She turned all over in her brother's arms but was very careful so she wouldn't fall.

"I...I" Jordan giggled. "I..surrender"

"Thought you'd see it my way"

A drop of water fell and hit each of the siblings soon it was raining and Justin had taken his sister inside as the rain came pouring out of the sky. The two siblings spent the rest of the early morning playing in the house and in the afternoon on the couch watching tv together.

When Hank finally managed to get his current case closed he went home to check on his children. He hated being away from them for so long. When he got home the house was quiet. He was about to get worried but stopped when he saw the sight on the couch.

The two were fast asleep, Justin had his legs stretched out onto the coffee table, his arm wrapped around his sister protectively. Jordan was fast asleep still in her spandex costume, the ball blaster edging out of her hand the helmet half on her head.

Quietly the older father had gone over and gently took the toy from his daughter, setting it on the table and carefully taking the helmet off her head. Jordan slightly stirred feeling the movements. Blinking her eyes she saw her father.

"Daddy?" She mumbled out.

"Shh go back to sleep sweetheart" He soothed her.

He put the toy helmet on the table. He grabbed a blanket and covered his children and then took a seat on the couch, he carefully lifted his daughter's legs and laid them across his lap as she slept soundly next to her brother. Hank propped his legs on the table and before he closed his eyes he took one last look at his children and smiled seeing them. They were his everything. The air in his lungs. His soul. The beats in his heart. His world.

I have two new stories. The first is Expect The Unexpected and the other is You Are My Heart. Read and enjoy.
