Chapter 4: Gazing upon history
Leo followed the four towards the Kaibacorp building once enough time has passed he snuck inside, he knew what floor the historic duel took place on. But he couldn't use the elevator, he didn't want to draw THAT much attention, so the stairs was the better option. Running as fast as he could up various flights of stairs eager to witness the first duel between Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba like he dreamed of doing. Soon enough he made it to the floor, he slowly creaked the door open and saw Yugi, Joey, Tristan and Tea together looking at their hands, "Its a symbol of our friendship. So when Yugi's dueling no matter how tough it gets he knows he's not alone. We're all right their with him!" said Tea. Those words while inspirational hit Leo hard, he remembered he was stranded in the past. Yusei, Akiza, Jack, Crow and Luna, his friends and his sister far off in the future and yet he was here, ... alone. He looked down and sighed and took out a photo he had of all of them from his pocket, "I really miss you guys" he says to himself holding the photo. However he then shook himself out of it and saw Kaiba and Yugi enter the duel arena.
'Well I guess its time for the show of a lifetime' thought Leo as he ran to one of the more discrete entrances. Blinded by excitement he failed to notice someone before it was too late and smashed into him. "ow, geez watch where you're going next time" said the other boy. Leo almost immediately recognized him, "Mokuba ... you're Mokuba Kaiba" said Leo offering his hand helping him up, "I'm so sorry, I just came to watch this duel. Didn't see you there, I'll watch myself next time". Mokuba took his hand and Leo helped him off, Mokuba dusted off his clothes, "Well, don't expect much, big bro is going to mop the floor with this new chump" said Mokuba confidently, not knowing what the duel's real outcome will be unlike Leo did. "I know, that's ... why I'm here" bluffed Leo. Mokuba nodded and the two entered the duel arena. To say Leo felt like this was a dream was an understatement, he saw Yugi and Kaiba, their elevated positions on the duel arena making them appear like gods.
'This is really happening' thought Leo a massive smile on his face, "you okay there?" asked Mokuba. Leo then recomposed himself, "apologies, I've heard a lot about your brother" it was true in a sense, "his mighty Blue-Eyes white dragons are a force to be feared among all of duel monsters". Mokuba then looked at Leo confused, "How did you know that my big bro has Blue-Eyes white dragons?" asked Mokuba. Leo's heart almost stopped 'Shoot me and my big mouth! Come on think Leo, think, how you can convince him that you know he has them without spilling you're from the future! ummmm. I got it!' Leo then responded with "I heard your brother went to this game shop to get this guy's Blue-Eyes white dragon. I presumed he got it,". "oh, alright then, unfortunetly he didn't get it. This is what this is all about, it started when he got this old-" says Mokuba. Leo didn't pay attention to the rest as he witnessed the duel take place.
Although he knew the duel's outcome Leo sat back and enjoyed every moment, finally came a moment he waited to see. "I call on the Blue-Eyes white dragon!" declared Kaiba as the legendary dragon still in Leo's day appeared on the duel field. It was more beautiful than he could ever imagine. "Impossible, we all watched Kaiba tear that card in half!" shouted Joey, "Surprised did you think your grandfather was the only one to possess a Blue eyes white dragon?" retorted Kaiba mockingly as it destroyed Yugi's Gaia. "Hey kid, I never seen you around before, what's your name" asked Mokuba. Leo didn't pay attention, focusing on the duel but then Mokuba waved his hand in his face, "Hey, earth to new kid. I'm asking you a question". "Huh, oh what do you need Mokuba?" asked Leo, "Well who are you is what's really on my mind" said Mokuba. "Oh, my apologies I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Leo, I'm new to domino city. Got here a few days ago" answered Leo, Mokuba seemed to be satisfied by that answer "Well, you plan on staying long?" he asked, "Who knows, maybe a day, a week, a year, who knows" Leo said smiling at Mokuba but hoping in reality it wouldn't be over a year. Yugi then summoned the dark magician and almost immediately Leo turned back to the duel seeing Dark magician destroy judge man, "your judge man falls!" says Yugi before Kaiba mockingly responds "Ah, a sacrifice that doesn't even phase me"
As the duel's end approached Leo eagerly waited to see the grand finale, the summoning of exodia. he held his breath in anticipation as he saw Yugi begin to draw his next card. He then heard those famous words "Draw your last pathetic card so I can this Yugi", "My Grandpa's deck has no pathetic cards Kaiba, but it does contain" Yugi then reveals Exodia in his hand, "the unstoppable Exodia!" said both Yugi and Leo, Mokuba too shocked to notice Leo also said it. The five cards then materialized exodia in the arena, "No way, its Exodia! You're saying you performed a miracle!?" cried out Kaiba. "Exodia Obliterate!" Shouted Yugi as the titan blasted the three dragons winning the duel. Leo couldn't help but clap, he may be stuck in the past, but this was an awesome spectacle. He then saw Yugi leaving and decided, why not meet him. Waving goodbye to the shocked Mokuba who didn't even notice. But he failed to catch up to Yugi as when he exited the arena the elevator door closed. "Oh come on!" Leo shouted knowing he missed the opportunity, he then pressed the elevator button, 'Well, at least I got to see the duel with my own to eyes. That's good enough for me' Leo thought, after all his mission was to get home, not to fanboy over Yugi he hasn't even became king of games yet. Leo then stopped in his tracks almost failing to see the door open. He quickly entered and pressed the button to go to the bottom floor.
'Yugi isn't the king of games yet, he has to win Duelist kingdom for that, but there were also various unexplained events occurring at said tournament, including the fact that Yugi and Pegasus's duel was never officially recorded, because of some form of peculiar interference said by some to be a ball of shadow' The elevator stopped at the bottom floor and he exited but continued to think as he walked out and began to walk back to Gerald's house looking at the millennium scale, 'What if duelist kingdom is the way to get home. Maybe a portal, wormhole, or that shadow ball which I know for sure is there can get me back. I don't want to be here in this time forever. I want to see Luna, Yusei and my friends again. ... And I even get to play in the legendary duelist kingdom too. Sure I'll have to throw a match but if it means I can get home, why not.' "I'm a salesman, I sell sweets! I'm a sweet salesman, and I have these treats! Come and buy from me, and I'll give it to you for free!" Leo was shaken out of his thoughts hearing a small boy very much younger than him at the lemonade stand he just passed by sing that jingle he realized he was about to walk into the road. He silently thanked the kid, looking at him and giving him a wave. 'Not too expensive for lemonade' thought Leo seeing a coin on the ground equal to the amount that was asked for on the sign, he payed for a small cup, even though the kid said it was free he knew better than to take advantage of him. He sipped the lemonade "Better than I hoped" said Leo enjoying the sweet and sour flavor of the lemonade.
He looked at the kid again, his blue hair with an accented gold bang. He then saw a girl with green hair and a bracelet come out with another pitcher of lemonade, the boy hugged the girl. "He looks a lot like Mr. Yugo, and her like Mrs. Rin" He said to himself remembering his two favorite teachers at duel academy who were married to each other, it was the past so it could be them or just two random kids. Leo decided not to hold onto that and he soon got back to Geralds place, "Well hello there, Old sport" Gerald greeted, Leo nodded. He knew Gerald worked with Pegasus, but was debating whether or not to ask him to give him an invitation to duelist kingdom. He knew Gerald could do that, after all any prize cards there would've been designed by him. A few days went by and Leo still hadn't decided whether or not to do ask Gerald but in the middle of the afternoon there was a knock at the door. Gerald went to it and came back with a package, "I think this is for you" said Gerald, Leo opened the package. 'No way!' thought Leo, it was an invitation to duelist kingdom, and ... to his name. Leo looked confused, but then he remembered, Pegasus was rumored to have also staged the tournament to gather as many millennium items as possible, and since he had the scale he was one of them ... but how did Pegasus know? Leo then quickly pieced it together, Gerald was the only one who knew he had the scale, and since he works for Pegasus, he likely told him. Leo however decided to play dumb, after all why would he jeopardize his only real chance home?
He looked at the tape confused about its purpose but then he began to think, Yugi famously said in one of his interviews "Too much TV snatches your loved ones, I should know, saw it happen to my own grandpa." to disourage kids from too much television, he knew Solomon went into a coma before the tournament's beginning and suspiciously got better at the end. Pegasus also had a millennium item: The Millenium eye, and if the folk-tales of its power are true then it could explain why Solomon went into that coma. "The same package was sent to every duelist invited including Yugi, he's the only contestant with a millennium item. His grandfather went into a coma on the day of receiving the invitation and came out of it at the end of the tournament. Pegasus's millennium eye, if like most of the other millennium items can manipulate souls. But Pegasus paid no visit to Yugi, since he famously gave an interview that same day on the duelist kingdom island itself, it isn't possible for him to get there to Yugi's place in so little time. Unless ... of course, tapes play on TV, perhaps Pegasus somehow used his millenium eye in conjuction with said tape to take Solomon's soul if what Yugi said of TV snatching their loved ones, it all makes sense." Leo said to himself, his critical thinking piecing it all together. And seeing as he also had a millennium item and was invited, something would happen if he put the tape in too. He then grabbed the videotape along with his Morphtronic deck and the deck Gerald gave him and told Gerald he's going for a walk.
Leo went to the domino city hospital quickly walking in, convincing one of the staff members he was there to see a relative he was let in and began to wander the halls looking for Solomon, and sure enough after a few minutes he saw Joey and Tea enter a hospital room, he then saw a man who appeared to be a doctor coming out of the room muttering to a nurse something about a coma. That was good enough confirmation for Leo, after some searching he found a conference room and much to his delight a vhs projector. He locked the door and took out the tape from his jacket and took a deep breath. "Soon, I'm going home." he then inserted the tape
