Chapter 3: instruction

Naruto was sitting in class as he listened to Iruka's lecture on shinobi history. It was the same thing that he always went on about.

The history about how the shinobi and sheikah battled each other a long time ago. It had gotten so bad that it was considered a war. It lasted many years with neither of them able to fully get the upper hand. The shinobi with their jutsu and the sheikah with their techniques and stealth on par with the shinobi. It was at the point that the Hyrule army got involved that the shinobi called for a ceasefire as they realized that fighting against the sheikah and the royal family army would be detrimental to them.

It should also be noted that many shinobi joined the sheikah as they saw no point in a war that was caused due to the hatred between the chakra users and the magic users.

This happened before the great villages were created and the shinobi were more rogue agents more than anything. Once the villages were established, the shinobi set themselves as a military force and swore allegiance with the royal family though there were some who argued this point, it was a majority vote from all of those in power that this was to be done.

Naruto knew this all already as he studied up on this in order to do his paper. Also due to the fact that Iruka had given this lecture a million times during the school year. Naruto would have fallen asleep if he wasn't looking out the window down onto the training ground

On the large training field, was a class of Hylians practicing swordsmanship, archery, and hand-to-hand combat.

The academy incorporated both shinobi arts and Hylian battle tactics and application. The first floor of the academy houses the Hylian portion of the curriculum where most Hylians reside.

The second floor of the academy is used for the shinobi curriculum.

And despite the separation of the two sides, there are those that choose to take some of the other practical classes.

Iruka's class though is coed since it has to do with the history of both sides. So the class has an abundance of chakra users and magic users. Though the animosity between the two can be clearly seen as the right side of the class were the magic users and the left side was the chakra users.

Though there were a few who did not care for the type of user you were and sat with the other group.

Most of the clan heirs were in the mix of magic users with a few sitting elsewhere, more so because the seats were taken.

Naruto was sitting among the magic users by the window as he stared at the Hylians practicing.

"NARUTO! PAY ATTENTION!"

Naruto felt a sharp pain on the side of his head as a piece of chalk struck him. "ACK!" he rubbed the spot and gave an angry look at Iruka. "What was that for?!"

Iruka pulled another piece of chalk from his sleeve as he answered. "for not paying attention to the lecture."

Many in the class were snickering as they saw Iruka reprimand the boy.

Naruto grumbled as he looked forward, making it look like he was paying attention. As he looked forward he saw Mizuki blatantly glaring at the magic users. He rolled his eyes as this has been happening since Naruto entered the academy.

And it wasn't just Mizuki, many other teachers in the academy on the shinobi side had a great amount of animosity towards the magic users, saying that they were just a waste of time for the academy who should just focus on shinobi.

A lot of this was because magic users weren't known for big flashy magic and shinobi thought that they would be able to take down any Hylian, Zora, Gerudo, Rito, or even the Goron.

There were even some Hylian teachers that thought that the shinobi were nothing more than killers for hire. Beings that would backstab you for any sign of money. Beings with no sense of integrity or honor.

Despite these thoughts on both sides, they were incorrect.

Hylians may not have flashy techniques, but they are able to keep up with shinobi by augmenting their body with their magic, and when among those who have good control of it can counter jutsu with magical attacks

Shinobi may be glorified mercenaries, but they honor their alliances, and since they all pledged their loyalty to the royal family, they have become more like the sheikah.

Naruto propped his head on his fist as he suddenly thought about what the Hokage asked him to do.

~flashback~

Naruto was called to the Hokage office not long after he finished his meeting with Kakashi. He had already gotten any signs of tears off his face and was walking leisurely towards the old man's office. 'Wonder what he wants with me? Haven't done any pranks in the last two days and he already gave me this month's stipend.' He continued to think about what this could be about till he walked into the building and past the receptionist. He waved at her as he walked past, causing her to return the wave.

Naruto's status about being the son of the previous Hokage was not publicly known, but there was a good amount of people that knew and showed respect to the boy.

Naruto was thankful for that since he did not want to be pampered or be called "honorable son of the fourth" or something similar. He had met Konohamaru and the kid hated being called "honorable grandson"…..even if he never said it.

Naruto opened the door to the office and called out. "Hey, Jiji! What's up!"

Hiruzen looked up from the paper he was looking over and smiled at the boy. "Ah, Naruto, good of you to come. Please shut the door behind you and sit down."

Naruto sat on one of the chairs that were in front of the Hokage desk and waited for the old man. He randomly thought about how the format of the office changes from time to time. Hell, sometimes there are a couple of couches in front of the desk instead of chairs.

Hiruzen put the piece of paper down before he grabbed the specific message from Suna and placed it in front of him for this meeting. "Naruto, if I were to ask you how well you are able to enter the Lost Woods and not get lost, how would you answer it?"

Naruto tilted his head at the question as he was not expecting it to be about his ability to get through the lost woods. "I'm pretty good at getting through them. But I'm not entirely sure how I can, I just know my way towards Kokiri village."

Hiruzen nodded. "If I were to ask you to escort someone through the Woods and into Kokiri Village, would you be able to do so?"

Naruto nodded. "Well, yeah. I've taken some of my friends there before because they wanted to see what it was like, so I can do it."

Hiruzen smiled as he nodded. "Excellent. The reason I ask you this, Naruto, is because I have received a message from Suna that they will be escorting a representative of the Gerudo. This representative wishes to meet with the great Deku tree about a matter that has not been divulged to us."

Naruto tilted his head before looking up in thought. "The Gerudo…. What would she want with the Deku Tree?"

Hiruzen shook his head. "As I said, we were not informed about the matter but since it has gone through the royal family, this isn't something we should just allow to happen without assistance. If we allow someone that has gone through the royal family before coming here, it could very well cause us issues in our relationship with both Suna and the Gerudo. It would be unwise to allow them to get lost in the woods when we could clearly give them safe passage." He stood up from his seat and moved to stand in front of Naruto. "That is why I wish to ask for your assistance in this matter and escort the representative through the woods."

Naruto hopped out of his seat and nodded to the old man. "Jiji, all you had to do was ask. But I gotta get permission from the Deku tree before I escort them with me. It is his woods after all."

Hiruzen nodded as he understood why the Deku tree would want to be informed about any guests he would be receiving. "Oh, one more thing, Naruto. There haven't been any problems in the woods, right? No monsters to speak of?"

Naruto looked at the old man like he was an idiot. "'Monsters'? In the lost woods? The closest thing to monsters in the Lost Woods would be the Deku scrubs. But those guys rarely cause trouble."

Hiruzen sighed as he ran his hand down his face. "How in Hylia do they keep getting into the village without us knowing?"

The Deku scrub village was where most of the Deku scrubs lived and can be located some miles away from Konoha, in the heavy swamplands. Despite how many who don't live in it call it a village, it is actually called the "Deku kingdom". Though not many go to that kingdom and those who do can say that it is small in comparison to the Hyrule kingdom. And despite how they call it "Deku" Kingdom, they have little to no affiliation with The great Deku tree. But the king stated that the name is more to show how much respect they have for the great tree. Being people that are also considered tree beings, one can see why they hold such reverie towards the Deku tree.

As such, many times in Konoha, people have spotted Deku scrubs shambling in the streets, and sometimes setting up their Deku flowers on the corner of a random street to sell some of their products that you can't find in many places, such as magic seeds and Deku nuts.

Naruto smiled at seeing the old man frustrated at the fact that some Deku scrubs were invading their village. Though the Deku scrubs were not that much of a threat to the people of Konoha, especially since the village had an abundance of users of fire jutsu.

Wood and dried leaves can catch fire very quickly.

Hiruzen cleared his throat before getting back to the matter at hand. "Well, when you have informed The Great Deku tree, let me know so that I can send a message to Suna so they can inform the Gerudo."

Naruto nodded before telling the old man that he would talk to the Great Deku tree the next day.

~Flashback end~

Naruto was brought out of his thoughts when the class was dismissed and everyone else was getting up from their desk and out of the room. He got up and moved to head out onto the courtyard to eat his lunch

He ran over to a tree to see the other clan heirs gathered around it. "Hey, guys."

The other clan heirs looked over to Naruto before giving their own greetings.

Naruto moved to sit on the swing that everyone in the group silently agreed belonged to him. He sat down and pulled out his own bento so he could eat it.

Kiba was the first one to bring back the conversation they were having before Naruto arrived. "So, did you hear about what we are doing in the next class." he tossed a piece of meat up as Akamaru chomped it out of the air.

Sasuke took a bite out of his lunch and enjoyed the taste of the tomato before swallowing and answering the Inuzuka heir. "From what I heard, we are having sparring practice. Looking forward to wiping the floor with you, Kiba."

Kiba glared at the Uchiha but remained seated as he had his lunch in his lap and didn't want to lose it. "Hey! Keep talking like that and I'll show you who will wipe the floor with who!"

Ino shook her head before bringing up her opinion of the matter. "Kiba, you know as well as I do that if it comes to you two, then Sasuke has the better chance at beating you."

"Yeah right. I've been training my butt off since the last time we fought and I can say that I'll be winning his time."

Shikamaru sighed as he sat up from where he was laying. "We are having a collaboration sparring session with the Hylians. If I had to guess, they want to make sure that we know how to handle the other side in case we run into rogue ones outside the village."

Sakura slumped as she heard this. "Oh great. I'm not looking forward to that."

Ino looked at her pink-haired friend sitting next to her and gently shoved her with her shoulder. "Hey, it won't be that bad. I mean, none of us here are going to go into trying to really hurt you."

Sakura sighed as she nodded despondently before bringing her hand up. "Yeah, but…." She then ran her hand over her long ears.

Sakura Haruno was half Hylian on her mother's side.

Her mother Mebuki Haruno was a Hylian that came to live here when she was just a teenager as she wanted to establish a store business in Konoha. She then met her shinobi husband Kizashi Haruno and the two hit it off. Kizashi retired as a shinobi to work more with his wife and raise the family they made.

And being born from the two, she gained her mother's ability in magic. In other words, she was born with the Hylian ears, showing her ability to use magic. This brought her scorn from many on the shinobi side of her class but Ino defended her from Ami a while ago and the two became fast friends. After they became friends, Ino made sure to introduce her to the other clan heirs and she became integrated with the group.

Naruto finished his lunch before he looked at the girl. "Hey, come on, Sakura. You have all of us as your friends and we ain't going to do it with any anger. Besides, all of us get along with each other really well." it was then that Naruto looked down at Sasuke's lunch and he quickly reached down and grabbed one of the mini tomatoes that were there and popped it in his mouth.

"NARUTO!"

Said blonde stuck his tongue out before he chewed the tomato. He had to jump out of his seat as Sasuke threw his chopsticks at him. He then had to run as Sasuke got up from his seat and began to chase him around the tree.

"You bastard! Do you have any idea how much it is to import Hylian ingredients to make that dish!"

Naruto kept running as he looked behind him. "You still have the rest of the lunch! So, what's the problem!"

"Problem is that it was my lunch and you don't get any!"

The other heirs watched the two, chuckling, with Sakura feeling better about the upcoming sparring session.

Kiba looked at the lunch box that Sasuke put down before he attempted to kill Naruto. "What is his lunch anyway?"

Ino looked down and shrugged. "No clue."

Hinata joined in as she tried to think about what it was as she was sure that she had seen it before. "I think I saw it in a Hylian cookbook before but I can't remember."

Sakura looked at it and spoke. "It's vegetable Rissotto. Looks like tomatoes were added to personalize it. You can make it with Hylian rice, Rock salt, some carrots, and goat butter. Though, it looks like the carrots were replaced with Tomatoes."

Choki drooled at the sound of ingredients that were said and he was so tempted to try a bite. But he was stopped when he felt a hand on his shoulder and turned his head to see Shikamaru shake his.

"I wouldn't if I were you. You know how Sasuke is when it comes to tomatoes. Especially since his mom is the one that takes the time to make it for him."

Choji nodded as he leaned back. "Well, Sasuke's mom does make good Hylian food. Guess being a Hylian herself makes it easier."

Much like Sakura, Sasuke is half Hylian but unlike her, he gained the ability to use chakra. As well as his brother.

One of the theories about halfbreeds between the two is that depending on the genetics of the parents, it can be speculated which side they will take more of. Such as if one of the parents has a Kekkei Genkai, it is more than likely, that the child will be a chakra user. They believe the strong genetics of the bloodline forces the child to develop towards said bloodline.

"You'll never take me alive!"

Every one of the heirs looked to the still running boys and saw Naruto pull something out of his pocket and lift his arm as if to throw it to the ground.

Sasuke saw what it was and tried to stop but he was too late.

Naruto threw it to the ground and a loud *CRACK* was heard and Sasuke was now stunned frozen with a slightly blue coloring around him

Sasuke groaned as he was frozen in place. "D-damn you, N-naruto."

Naruto smiled wide before he spun on his feet and ran away since the effect of a Deku nut is only a few seconds

Shikamaru sighed as he laid back down. "He does know that they will meet in class before the sparring, right?"

It was then that the bell rang, informing them that they had to go back to class.

Sakura got up from where she was sitting and brushed off her dress before looking at the others. "I'll see you guys later." She waved at them before she ran off to get ready.

The heirs and heiresses then cleaned up their area before heading back into class.

The second that Sasuke entered the classroom, he narrowed in on Naruto and punched him on the top of his head. "Get your own next time."

Naruto rubbed the top of his head to get the swelling to stop. "Stingy bastard."

Iruka then called out to the class. "Alright, everyone., as I'm sure many of you know, we will be having a collaborated sparring session with the Hylians today. What you probably don't know is that the first half will be sparring against each other, the second half will be cooperative. This means that you will be paired up with one of them as you face off against a couple of the instructors here. Some of the Hylians being former soldiers of the Hyrule Royal army, so they have experience."

This got a few of the students excited at the idea of the session but they stopped when Iruka shouted for them to stay quiet.

One of the students raised her hand and asked. "Are we going to be fighting any Sheikah today?"

Iruka shook his head. "No. The sheikah are very busy with their duties to the royal family so there won't be any attending the sparring session."

Several of the students groaned in disappointment as many of them were interested in seeing the Shiekah in action or fight them to see how good they were.

Iruka sighed before he began again. "Now, you will be given kunai to use for this session but they are meant to be used as handheld weapons, not projectiles. Mizuki and I, as well as the Hylian instructors, will step in if we see any poor behavior on the field. Alright, everyone, let's get going to the field."

With that, everyone got out of their seat and began making their way to the training fields.

All of the shinobi in training made it to the fields to see all of the Hylian students waiting for them.

Iruka gestured for them and Mizuki to stay where they were before he went to the Hylian instructors and discussed how they would do this. It was agreed that they would send in their best to face each other first to give the other students something to strive for.

Iruka moved over to the in-training shinobi and told the decision to Mizuki who just nodded and agreed to it. He then looked over to students and called out. "Alright, everyone, we are going to call your name and you are going to go forward to face your opponent while the rest of you will take a step to the side to watch the match." seeing all of them nod, he called out. "Ok, Sasuke Uchiha! You will be the first to go."

Sasuke stepped forward with all the other students moving to the side.

The Hylian instructor then turned to his students. "Sakura Haruno, are you ready?"

Sakura stepped forward with a standard broadsword at her hip. Her attire has been changed a bit as she was now wearing steel pauldrons that had light leather sleeve armor underneath that made it to the top of her hands. Over her forearms are steel bracers that allowed her full wrist movement. Over her chest was some lightweight armor that was custom made for her chest and around her wais was a skirt made of leather strips that had steel plating to allow her movement and protection. Around her foreleg were some steel grieves over leather armor. One last thing different was that she had tied her hair into a ponytail.

Sasuke and Sakura stepped forward to face each other with the other students stepping back.

Iruka and one of the Hylain instructors stepped up to referee with the Hylian looking at both. "Are both of you ready?"

Sasuke pulled out his kunai and held it in a reverse grip with Sakura pulling out her sword and standing at the ready.

Iruka looked at the two before looking at his Hylian colleague and nodded. "Then begin."

Sasuke was the first to make a move and ran towards Sakura with his kunai up.

Sakura stood ready as she shifted her grip to move where she needed. Seeing Sasuke come at her with a low upward strike, she shifted her sword to block it. Once his momentum was stopped, she shifted the sword to shove it away before bringing her sword down in a diagonal slash.

Sasuke quickly recovered to parry the slash and counter with a horizontal slash, which Sakura leaned back to avoid. She took a few steps back to get some footing and then charged at him.

The two then began to exchange attacks with the other parrying them.

Sasuke clearly had the advantage due to his mobility but Sakura's quick reflexes were able to keep up with his attacks and counter with her own.

All of the students were staring in awe as they saw the best students of the academy go at each other.

Sakura then jumped over Sasuke to avoid a low slash and while her body was parallel with his she did a rightward spin to cut at his back while he still had his hand extended.

Sasuke looked up over his shoulder to see what she was doing and he brought his extended right hand to meet her sword despite how his footing was not stable enough to fully block. His kunai met her blade and lifting his feet off the ground, he allowed the force of the sword strike to send him away from her.

Sakura moved her feet to the ground and was able to chase Sasuke who rolled on the ground but was still off-balance.

Sasuke was able to stop but he looked over his shoulder to see Sakura charging at him and was too close for him to get back on his feet. In a desperate, move he spun on his feet to meet her but stopped when she met him face to face with the flat side of the sword at his neck in a way to show that she could slice his neck.

Sakura's face was inches away from his and thought herself the winner till she felt something pressed at her stomach. She didn't need to look down to know that his kunai was at her stomach as her sword was at his neck.

"Enough!"

Sakura got up, removing her sword from Sasuke's throat while Sasuke pulled his kunai back and stood up with her.

The instructors walked up to the two and patted their respective student's shoulders.

Iruka looked to Sasuke and commended his ability. "You did well, Sasuke, countering Sakura's sword, and despite how that last move was a last-ditch effort, it allowed you to position yourself in a way to land a lethal blow.

The Hylian instructor congratulated Sakura for her ability to handle Sasuke's skill and ability to move it in her favor. "You did well in parrying all of his swift strikes and I must commend you for that move to jump over Sasuke to land a decisive blow. And I must commend young Sasuke for his quick reflexes to block the strike to his back."

Sakura sheathed her sword with Sasuke putting his kunai away before they lightly bowed to their instructors. While both saying "thank you." they then went over to join their respective classmates.

Sasuke sat down next to a tree that had the field in his view as his turn was done. He nodded to his friends as they sat next to him and they all watched the rest of the spars.

After some more spars, everyone had fought and finished their turn

Naruto, Kiba, and Hinata were able to win their spars easily as the Hylian cadets were more scholarly and preferred to study rather the swordsmanship

Shino, Ino, and Choji had a little trouble with theirs since they were not the most taijutsu oriented of the group and they had gotten the more soldier-type Hylians. But they were able to get a victory

Shikamaru was the only one to lose as he forfeited after the first thirty seconds.

Now that all of the students had taken their turn, it was time for the second part of the session. They all were talking to each other as they were trying to think who they would work with and who they would fight.

The instructors got together and discussed who would be the one to face the students. After a bit of discussion, they set up who would go first. They moved over to stand between the two groups and Iruka spoke up. "Alright, we will now call who will work with who, and then one of us will stand in front of you."

The Hylian instructor then stepped forward and called out. "Now, Sakura Haruno, step forward."

Sakura stepped forward as she was ready to fight once more.

Mizuki then smirked as he spoke next. "Naruto Namikaze Uzumaki, you're up!"

Naruto grumbled as he always thought that his full name was too long to say. 'Uzumaki or Namikaze. One or the other, not both. Just sounds like a tongue twister.' He stepped forward to stand with Sakura. He looked at her before they both nodded to each other and faced the instructors. It was then that they saw their opponent.

Mizuki stood in front of them as he pulled out a kunai and faced the two kids. "Are you two ready?" while he kept up a cheerful smile, he was sneering at the two as he wanted to kill the Hylian girl and the Hylian lover. 'Can't kill them outright but maybe an accident…..'

Naruto pulled out his kunai and looked at Sakura. "You want front or should I?"

Sakura thought about it for a second before she gestured for him to stand in front. Naruto moved to stand right in front of Sakura and got into a low crouch with his kunai at the ready.

This was a formation they learned in case they had to work together. It works better if it was with a small group. But the formation of who is in front and who is behind changes how they fight.

Iruka and his colleagues stepped back as they set up to referee the match. "Alright, are you three ready?"

Naruto and Sakura nodded with Mizuki bringing up his kunai.

Iruka looked to the kids and spoke. "And don't worry about being overwhelmed, he will be coming at you at a low level to give you a challenge so we can assess your skill levels. Alright…you may begin."

Mizuki was the first to move since the formation the kids had was meant more for countering and they won't move till their opponent does. He moved faster than he was supposed to and as he got closer to the two, he swiped at Naruto, aiming to at least cut across his eye. But he didn't get the chance as Sakura's sword had come down to block the kunai and he had to jump back as Naruto swiped his kunai at him.

Naruto charged forward with Sakura following behind him.

Once Mizuki touched down, he met the blondes kunai with his own and shoved it out of the way before he had to block the overhead strike from behind Naruto. He was then kicked away by Naruto and he was put on the defensive as he blocked all the strikes from both the shinobi and halfbreed Hylian. He was gritting his teeth as he wanted to hurt these two, so putting a little more effort into his fight, he parried another sword strike before forcing it to the side and throwing Sakura off balance and losing grip on her sword, before he brought his kunai down to block the stab coming from Naruto. He then kicked Naruto away and left Sakura open for a hit. Seeing a chance to leave a scar on the girl he got ready to strike at her unprotected face.

While Naruto was in the air from the kick, he saw that Sakura was open for a hit. In a quick act, he called out. "Sakura!"

Sakura had recovered from her unbalanced stance and shifted her eyes to Naruto and her eyes widened at what he did. But she reacted to it and steadied her stance as she saw the stab coming at her eye. She brought up her arm and blocked the kunai with her bracer and had it slide past it as she brought up her other hand.

Naruto rolled to a stop and almost automatically gripped something before he pushed off the ground and returned to the fight and joined Sakura

Everyone stopped as they saw the result

"Alright, that is enough!"

Sakura was breathing hard as she was looking into the eyes of Mizuki who was frozen in place

Sakura had Naruto's kunai positioned to Mizuki's throat while Naruto had Sakura's sword at the back of his neck

After a few seconds, the two students pulled their weapons from the man's neck before they turned to each other and returned their weapons.

The other instructors moved over to them before they nodded to the two kids at subduing Mizuki but they then went to correct some things that went wrong.

The Hylian instructor looked at Sakura as he started. "Sakura, your form is still good but your grip on your sword needs to be tighter so that you won't lose your weapon. But I suppose this gives us the chance to work on unarmed combat."

Sakura nodded as she sheathed her sword. "Yes, sir!"

Iruka looked at Naruto as he gave his own assessment. "Naruto, you were able to work well with Sakura and your form in the formation was very well done. And your action at the end by sending your kunai to Sakura was quick thinking and using her weapon shows adaptability. But I noticed that despite how firm your grip on the sword was, it was also a bit sloppy and I can assume that you were either in a rush or have not wielded a sword before."

"I've never used a sword before."

Iruka nodded as he looked over to the Hylian instructor. "I suppose that Naruto could sit in one of the sword practice sessions from the Hylian side of it."

The Hylian instructors looked at each other and nodded. "If he chooses. But know that we also have archery done at the same time so we might not be able to give him full instruction if he chooses to join. Though it would have to be after graduation since it is coming up soon and would not do well for him to focus on something new so close to the end."

Naruto nodded. "I can come after I become a genin so I can learn how to use a sword."

The instructors nodded before they gave both students high marks on their teamwork and skill level. They didn't know how well they really stand since neither magic nor jutsu was used and that could have been the tipping point to either side.

While the students were being praised, Mizuki had his back turned to them as he was seething at the loss. 'Those little shits. I should have shoved my kunai in that little pink-haired bitch and slashed at the damn blonde's eyes.' as his dark thoughts continued to go through his head he was then tapped on the shoulder.

"Come on, Mizuki, don't let it get to you. You should feel proud that they did so well against you."

Mizuki turned around and gave a smile to Iruka. "Well…. I guess it is just my hurt pride."

Iruka smiled as he patted his shoulder. "Well, it just goes to show that they will be able to protect the village and the royal family when the time comes. Come on, we have a bunch of other students to get through." Iruka turned to the class, missing the dark scowl on Mizuki's face

~meanwhile, woods around Kokiri village~

Link was running up a slanted log till he stopped and turned his upper torso to the left and pulled back on the slingshot. He then let loose as a twig was thrown into the air. He smirked as he saw that he hit the twig and broke it in half. His small victory was cut short as he saw another one in the air and did a quick draw before he let it loose. He continued to do this while jumping around the area. This kept going for a good amount of time till he heard.

"Link!"

Link looked down from the branch he was on to see Saria waving up at him.

"Come on! I think you've had enough fun for now."

Link smiled before he nodded and began to climb down the tree to join her. Once he walked down the leaning log and joined Saria he saw that she was rolling her arm. "Sorry about that."

Saria smiled at him before she shook her head. "No, it's fine. I was happy to help you out."

Saria's fairy came out and flew in front of his face. "You should be sorry for almost hitting me when we started."

Link blew at her to make her flutter in the air. "I did not." he was then tackled in the forehead by the fairy

Saria giggled at the two before she interrupted them "Now come on, let's go and practice something else."

Link smiled as he knew what she wanted to practice. He then began to walk with Saria as she walked towards one of their favorite spots. "So what do you think Naruto is doing right now?"

Saria thought about the time of the day before she answered. "I think he would be at the academy right now. He told me that at this time, he and the other genin in training would be in class."

Link crossed his arms as he thought about what it would be like to be in the academy. "I always wondered what it's like to go to one of those. The closest we get to something like it was when we all went to the Great Deku Tree for our lessons."

Saria shrugged her shoulders as she was also curious about it. "Maybe one day we can actually enter the village and see what it is like."

Link thought about the concept of actually leaving the forest. He was always curious about it but he had a home here so he had no real reason to leave.

It was then that the two made it to the maze that stood before the temple ruins. As they were about to climb the ladder that would bring them up to the top of the maze so they could skip it, Saria stopped as she felt something off and looked around her to see if she could see what it was.

Link made it to the top of the ladder and looked down to see that Saria was still at the bottom. "Hey, Saria, something wrong?"

Saria shook her head before she looked up at Link. "i-it's nothing, Link." She climbed up the ladder to follow Link.

After the two made it past the maze, up the stairs, and then down the corridor-like area, they made it to the spot Saria enjoys sitting at. They moved past the stone platform and to the stump before sitting down. Saria reached into her tunic and pulled out her Ocarina before she brought it up for Link to take.

Link smiled as he took it from her hand and shifted it in his hands. He made sure that he got his fingers to the placement they needed to be before he brought it up to his lips and began to play Saria's song.

The two sat there as Saria listened to Link play her song. After a bit, she shifted in her seat so she was behind Link and then leaned back so her back was pressed to his.

Link had closed his eyes as he started playing but he opened them when he felt Saria lean on his back. He continued to play as he knew what this meant.

"Hey, Link, can I ask you something."

Link continued to play the song as he heard Sarai speak. He knew that when Saria did this, She had some heavy thoughts on her mind.

"Do you think we will always stay together? You, me, and Naruto?" she paused as she looked upward into the hazy air that drifts in the tree leaves. Her eyes followed a firefly that flew in the air before she continued. "We've been friends for so long that I…. I can't imagine it being any different. What would have happened if we didn't meet, or if we made different friends. Or maybe Naruto never came into the lost woods and ended up in our village." she paused as she thought about it and didn't like the way it felt. "It's just that I…. I really like having you two in my life. And I just had the thought of 'what if one of us disappeared. Would the other two go out to find them? Would we leave the village to find them or what if one of us had to leave? Would the other two follow or stay behind to wait for their return." she took a heavy breath as she brought her hand up to her chest and gripped her tunic lightly. "I don't want us to go our separate ways. And…..if one of you were to leave…..I would follow. I know it is dangerous for us to leave the village, away from the Great Deku tree's protection but….. You two are important to me and I won't let you two face any danger alone." she looked over her shoulder as Link continued to play. "If I had to go away…..would you two follow?"

Link continued to play with his eyes closed but nodded his answer. 'It's not a question if we would. Friends don't leave their friends behind.'

Saria smiled as she saw the nod. She propped one leg up as she wrapped her arms around it and looked up with a smile. "I know Naruto would. He would do anything for his friends." she then sighed as this was a heavy subject. "Sorry, Link. It's just that recently, I've had this feeling that something is going to happen. I don't know what but I just wanted to make sure that we would stay together no matter what." she then laughed a bit before she shook her head. "Forget it. I'm just being silly."

Link leaned his head back and bumped hers which got her to laugh a bit more.

Feeling a bit better, she looked up and saw a leaf fall from the tree and reached up to grab it. She then brought it to her lips as she used it to make her own music and joined link with the song

Unbeknownst to the two, they were being observed by a couple of beings. One closer than they realize.

~Deku Tree~

The elderly tree gave a heavy sigh as he had heard Saria's worries. "Young Saria. Such worries should not trouble your mind and yet, I cannot help but wish that these worries were not founded." His gaze turned to look over the forest as a sense of forbidding came over him. "It grows closer and I will do what I must to protect my children." As he said this a single drop of dew fell from one of his leaves and landed on the ground a dozen feet in front of him.

The ground where the drop fell, lit up before fading as if it wasn't there

"Navi."

From within his tree leaves, a blue fairy came flying down till it floated in front of The Great Deku Tree.

"The time is almost here for you to join your partner. Hide within the Kokiri village and when a visitor comes and goes, find Link and bring him to me."

Navi shimmered her understanding before flying off towards the village.

He sighed as he chose to rest for now as his thoughts went to his village.

End of chapter

Before I get to anything. Here are the poll results for which Zelda will be used.

- Breath of the Wild: 16 votes

- Twilight princess: 7 votes

- Skyward sword: 2 votes

- Ocarina of time: 1

- Windwaker: 0

So far it looks like Breath of the Wild Princess Zelda is winning by a very good margin. But you never know. Some of you readers that didn't vote might feel the urge to vote

Just know that I'm going to give Zelda a bigger role instead of the single meeting from OoT game. Depending on which one wins, it can change the scenes with her altogether

Also as a final random thought, might make tetra her own character. But unlikely since I don't think we will be going to the seas.

Link to it is at the top of my profile page

How do you like the new cover art? Since I drew it recently I figured that I can make it the cover art with the addition of Naruto. Came out cool, in my opinion. :)

My fellow Author "Fenreldstormblade" has also made his own Naruto X Legend of Zelda fic "Legend of Zelda: Shinobi hero" and as we talked about it, he brought up an interesting thing that I had sort of overlooked. There are multiple versions of several characters. Such as Impa and King Hyrule, though there are only really two versions that are really solid (that I am aware of) Impa from Ocarina of time, skyward sword, and Hyrule Warriors are in essence the same character in appearance and attitude. The one from Breath of the wild has a different feel and demeanor altogether. As for king Hyrule, there is the one from Windwaker and the one from Breath of the wild. For the king, Breath of the wild is the one that is the most likely. Still got time to choose which one to go with for Impa but, any requests to go wither or wouldn't be a bad thing.

The idea of making Sakura half Hylian was a last-second idea I went with. And with me not wanting to make a banshee fangirl of her, I chose to make her useful with a sword. As for her armor, kinda just thought that up as well… as well as the fight

And Sasuke being the same but on the other side of the spectrum was a whim from when I started this chapter

Gonna give navi more than just "hey!" "Listen!"

Hope you guys enjoyed the chapter and look forward to the next
