I quietly walk through the city, a smile on my lips as Zinnia, Courtney and I quietly deliberate oh what we should eat.

"Burgers sound pretty good to me." I shrug.

"Yeah." Zinnia agrees. "I can get behind that."

"I'm fine with that." Courtney agrees.

"Oh good. I think I saw this one place nearby, we should swing by and-"

"Courtney?!" A voice cuts me off.

I watch the pink haired girl stiffen, then let out a long sigh.

She turns facing another pink haired girl, she has orange-ish red eyes, her hair quite a bit longer than Courtney's and pulled into a ponytail, she wears a pinkish pencil skirt and a sports bra of a similar color that shows off some of her cleavage.

"Lavana..." Courtney frowns. "It has been... a while... Why are you here?"

"Mom sent me to bring you home." The girl scoffs, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Huh?" Courtney mutters.

"Yeah! You're ignoring everyone's calls!"

"Ah. Right." Courtney mutters. "I sent my rotom back to Blueberry Academy."

"Regardless. I'm not going home." She presses on, turning and beginning to walk away.

"Wh- You brat!" The girl- apparently named Lavana calls out. "You worried mom sick! I heard that your little archeology class had to be cancelled because it endangered your lives. Mom only let you come here because she was assured that it was safe, but now she sees that it isn't."

"Oh, because mother cares oh so much about me." Courtney growls. "It's like she doesn't even see me as a daughter. Only a person to takeover the battle tower."

"Duh." Lavana scoffs, tilting her head back arrogantly. "She's already birthed perfection."

"I like her." Zinnia huffs quietly from beside me.

"But even so, you don't have time to hang around with two random unimportant losers."

My smile grows as Zinnia's is wiped from her face.

"Losers?" Courtney asks with a quiet glare. "I can understand calling HER a loser-"

"Oi Oi! What the fuck?!" Zinnia growls.

"But if you insult Xander again I will make you regret it." The pinkette threatens. "He is far too kind, talented, nice-"

"Courtney." I roll my eyes. "Really, it's fine. It's alright that your vacuous sibling doesn't think highly of me... after all... I'm just a normal blueberry academy student."

"Hmph. At least he knows his place." The girl arrogantly huffs.

"Vacuous?" Courtney echoes, a glint of dark amusement in her eyes.

Vacuous, adjective. Having or showing a lack of thought or intelligence. I called this girl a moron to her face and she didn't even blink.

"Let's go Courtney." I hum as I turn and begin walking away.

"Wh- HEY!" Courtney's sister growls. "You can't just leave!"

"Watch us." I deadpan.

"You- You need to come home!"

"I have prior commitments." Courtney supplies. "I don't want to go home... so I won't be going home. Nor can you make me."

"Yes I can!"

"That's called kidnapping." I cut in. "And it's illegal."

"You stay out of this!"

"You're talking a lot of shit for someone so weak." Zinnia glares.

"E-Excuse me?!" The girl snarls.

"What? Are you as deaf as you are stupid?" Zinnia scoffs. "You think you're oh so high and mighty because, what? Your mother owns a battle tower? Don't make me laugh. I could chew through her team in a heartbeat."

"EXCUSE YOU?! Y-YOU- YOU LITTLE- HOW DARE YOU!"

"I dare!" Zinnia grins evilly. "AND WHY DON'T YOU PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS!"

"ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND!" The draconid declares.

"YOU'RE ON YOU SKANK!" The pink haired girl shouts back.

Zinnia's hand turns. "Xandy... I need one hundred thousand dollars."

"..."

I palm at my face, letting out a long self-loading sigh.

I reach into my backpack, slip on my sling ring, then create a miniature portal back home into my safe within the confines of the bag. Then I wordlessly toss a stack of bills at her.

The two girls immediately go back to fighting.

"So. Burgers?" I mutter to Courtney who nods once, already done with this situation.

I sit in the stands, a Styrofoam plate in lap as two figures step out into a shielded arena below. Courtney is to my left.

"You know... I really don't get what I expected." I note.

Instead of going to that one burger place, we just went to the battle arena. They have a concession stand.

Also. Quite lucky to be in Undella town. It's probably one of the very few places in Unova which is capable of supporting a battle of this level due to all the gym leaders and elite four who vacation here.

"Mn Mn." Courtney nods.

"I guess this is what happens when two people with egos larger than the sun meet." I sigh. "So... how much of a chance do you think your sister has?"

"..."

"Her strongest is a Charizard. Quite recently evolved if I remember correctly. She was quite high and mighty about it when I went home for the summer... almost two years ago..."

"For us?" I note.

"For us. Four months or so for her." The girl supplies.

"She's going to get utterly obliterated." I snort.

"Mhm." Courtney agrees.

"Does she even have one hundred thousand?"

"Probably. But she likely had to borrow some from mom." The girl supplies.

"This will be a three versus three battle between Lavana Kate and Zinnia Draconid!" The referee calls out. "Please release your first pokemon."

"I didn't know your last name was 'Kate'. Huh." I mutter to my companion.

"Kind of boring, right?" She questions. "I'll be abandoning it for Welsh in the future."

"Red flag~" I hum.

With a flash a Charizard appears on the field, letting out a stream of fire skywards with a loud roar.

On Zinnia's side a large lightly scarred Salamence appears, smoke seems to puff from its nostrils.

A look of disgust seems to cross Zinnia's face, her voice echoing out. "Look, I might not like Charizard, it lost its dragon type throughout the ages, but even I know how to train them. Arceus above... Shelly. Hold back... a lot... so you don't kill this joke in one glancing blow."

"GRRRRR!" The quadrupedal dragon rumbles.

"BEGIN!"

Courtney's sister shouts out. "OVERHEAT!"

"She's using a fire type move on a dragon?" I question with a small frown.

"Yeah." The girl nods once.

"Charizard learns dragon type moves, does it not?" I continue.

"It does."

"Alright Shelly, Flamethrower."

Two torrents of flames rush towards each other, clashing in the middle of the ring, the floor of the battlefield seems to discolor and begin to glow.

"It's a fire type! You can put a little more oomph into it than that!" Zinnia calls out. "It'll probably live."

*FWOOOOOOOOSH*

The orange flames become a dull white as they seem to drastically increase in temperature and force, parting the fire types overheat and crashing into its body with a dull explosion that kicks up plumes of smoke.

"CHAR!" Lavana shouts.

"Oh wow. She went to the Zinnia school of pokemon naming." I grin, causing the girl beside me to snort.

The smoke eventually clears revealing an unconscious Charizard on its back, skin on its chest and shoulder slightly peeling from the damage it just sustained.

"..."

"I'm not going to have enough time to finish my burger, am I?"

"If you hurry, maybe?" Courtney supplies. "It depends on if my sister will pussy out now or continue with this fight, injuring her pokemon further."

"C-Charizard is unable to battle!"

*Ping*

I glance to my watch. An Xtranciever. "Oh. It looks like our appointment has been moved up."

"Trainer Lavana, please release your next pokemon."

"G-Go... Flare."

With a flash a flareon appears on the field.

"Oh? I didn't know she had one of those." Courtney frowns. "Did mother buy her an Eevee? How typical. I beg for months to get one before I came to Unova and she gets one whenever she wants."

"Do you want an Eevee?" I ask.

The girl lets out a low hum. "No. I don't believe I do... I am satisfied with a ninetails. Besides, nothing I get could compare to... It..."

The corners of her mouth turn upwards as she gestures to the salamence who changes its stance, appearing guarded, eyes narrowing in suspicion as it lowers its head, wings coming around protectively. "See? Even Zinnia's highly arrogant dragon thinks so."

"Oi oi! That's not him." Zinnia calls out. "You can relax a bit. This guy won't hold even the slightest candle to that little black monster."

"if you wanted one, I was probably going to give you Loki's son or something." I admit. "But oh well, you've got some interesting options from the things back home."

"Hey." I greet as I sit by myself in the middle of a large office building.

"Hey." Courtney supplies as she walks over, taking a seat next to me.

"How do you think you did?" I ask quietly.

"Well... they can't necessarily debate our findings." she huffs. "The real question is on if they are large enough to gain us each a professorship."

"Should be. Easily." I nod slowly.

We are currently at the pokemon league's Unovan office, filling out paperwork and submitting research that should by all means grant each of us for one of those illustrious 'Pokemon Professor' titles.

Her rotom phone begins to ring, causing her to glance down at it. "Hm. My mother is calling."

"Ignore." She blatantly declines the call.

I quickly look over my notes, firstly, a generalized statement to put in a the pokedex.

Velocidgy, The 'Gliding Claw' Pokemon.
Velocidgey, much like its evolved forms Velocidgeotto, and Velocidgeott, is incapable of true flight, they primarily lived in forested areas where their razor sharp claws allowed them to easily scale trees and glide faster than most pokemon can fly.

Below that is a far more in-depth overlook of the species.

Average height and weight, typically seen abilities, mainly Tough Claw but they also seem to rarely have Strong Jaw.

I also have a highly detailed comparison between it and Pidgey. Velocidgey doesn't seem to have the muscles- nor enough feathers- for flapping its arms to get it very far off the ground. What it does have, however, is more developed forelimbs that let it manipulate objects.

The little bastards can fake flight for a short time... I'd say it's sort of like a chicken, they jump and flap their arms to gain a bit more height and distance, but that's about it.

It is among the few pieces of research I have submitted, a large portion focused on the 'habits' of the known fossil pokemon in the TRUE wild.

Courtney's phone begins to ring again. "Rotom. Mute any calls that come from my mother, sister, or father's numbers."

"My... how cold." I roll my eyes.

"What will they do? Disown me?" The girl questions.

Her eyes seem to glaze over slightly.

"Heh." A single laugh leaving her lips. "Oh. That's amusing."

"Anything you'd like to share?"

"They attempt it." She supplies.

"..." I am once more left in awe at her foresight. "Is this before or after you're made one of the... what, ten pokemon professors?"

"That's why it's so funny."

"Why is your family so toxic?" I sigh, rubbing my forehead.

"I do not know." The girl shakes her head.

"Did... they say how long this way going to take?"

"No." The girl shakes her head.

An older man looks over a screen, a smile on his lips.

It's always a joy to see new pokemon.

"What do you think, Rowan, Juniper?" He questions after a moment, glancing to another screen where another older gentleman and a woman sit.

His name is Professor Oak. The person people think of when they hear the words 'The Pokemon Pofessor'.

As of this moment, he is reviewing expansive notes that... was gained through time travel- apparently.

Well... there's almost no other way such notes could exist... plus he has been given numerous video clips that would be a genuine groundbreaking feat to fake. Not to mention the fact that he has also seen the effects of a Celebi up close.

But.

You can't fake over fifty species of new pokemon.

"This girl's work... it is highly detailed." Professor Rowan grumbles. "The... Origin Stone... perhaps I should have looked to the origin of evolutionary items instead of which pokemon they work on... this... 'Primal Evolution' is quite interesting as well. Merely the render of the planet from so long ago would have been worthy of commendation, but with her collection and research of ancient plant life, volcanic activity, and her thesis on Origin Stones... I am fully in support of giving her the position as a pokemon professor of ancient geology... perhaps even extending that to 'geology' in general. Her photo of the planet will likely be in textbooks for the foreseeable future."

"I agree." The woman of the three nods. "The scientific breakthroughs of even one of these discoveries would cement them both in history. But if you compile it all... realistically they have found more on the origins of pokemon than even I... I can't help but feel a little jealous of their time in the past."

"Of course, I likely wouldn't have made it back." Juniper admits after a moment. "But still... I would have loved to see the world back then."

"So we are in agreement, then?" Oak asks, causing the other two professors to nod.

"Then perhaps we should contact them... I'd like to meet the two newest pokemon professors personally."

I look over my clothes, eyes briefly flicking up to the trio of computer monitors in front of me.

Courtney is sat next to me, clothes neat, hair brushed, I think she even put on a little makeup.

"I really don't get why you'd use makeup... to me, you're far more pretty without it. It feels fake." I admit, causing a small dusting of pink to appear on her cheeks.

"At least it's not lipstick." I mutter.

"How do you want to do this?" Courtney asks.

"Let's completely work with them to ensure these species can return from the brink of extinction." I decided. "Besides. I doubt we'll be short of money after this."

And even if we are, I can whip up a clone from the stored samples and auction it in Undella Town.

"I see." She hums. "Alright. Building up a good reputation."

"That... and I really don't want these pokemon to die out again." I admit. "We were given one single opportunity. Let's not waste it."

With that, we enter the call, schooling our features.

There are quite a few people within this call, the most notable would be the sandy haired old man in the top corner.

Professor Oak. THE pokemon professor.

Among the other members of this meeting are the other professors. Elm, Rowan, Juniper, Birch, even the old woman from Galar... I... don't actually remember her name, actually. Sword and Shield were honestly a little boring. I don't' think I finished either despite having both.

"Ah! Welcome! Welcome!" Professor Oak smiles. "It brings me great joy to greet two new professors!"

"Thank you, Professor Oak." I smile, gaze quickly straying across the screen. "My name is Xander Welsh, the newest professor whose specialization is ancient pokemon. This is Courtney Kate, the professor of Ancient Geology and Botany."

"Yes, a pleasure to meet the two of you!" Juniper smiles. "Ah! Actually, Professor Courtney, I believe Fennel spoke about you... you had been assisting her over the summer, haven't you?"

"I have." Courtney nods once. "But that seems like... so long ago."

I nod along, briefly looking to her before returning my attention to the professors. "I assume you all know, but in case anyone doesn't, Courtney, myself, and a third person were shunted through time via a legendary pokemon's grave site. Where we spent nearly one and a half years surviving in pre-history. As a result, we have gathered numerous species, most of which we didn't know of at all. A lot of which bearing similarities to modern day pokemon."

"Yes!" Professor oak nods. "Can we have an exact number on total species?"

"We have caught sixty five unique species not including evolution."

"Sixty five." Oak breathes out a small gasp, a bright smile on his face.

"Of course, this isn't all new pokemon. Among the sixty five species is one of each fossil pokemon- Including the origin species that Cara Liss butchered." The corners of my mouth turn downwards as a brief irritation seems to wash over all the professor's faces. "But. Still. Over fifty utterly new species."

Professor Elm speaks up. "On the topic of these new species, I and the other professors are prepared to assist you in any way in order to preserve these species. I assume that the fossil pokemon you have brought back with you can breed?"

"They can." I nod. "And I am fully prepared to work with all of you to allow these species to flourish. However. For certain members, habitats will need to be prepared. Ancient pokemon are... a lot bigger than our fossil revivers seem to have been able to bring back. In addition, they are quite feral and seem to utterly lack empathy. I fear that if they are allowed around people they will hurt someone."

"Yes. That is our concern as well." Rowan frowns. "Did you collect breeding pairs?"

"Sadly no." I shake my head. "Our pokeballs were limited, so I decided to put my hopes on ditto."

"I see. Regretful. But I suppose you did the best you could in that situation." The man sighs.

"I could start creating habitats for these pokemon." Birch begins. "I'd just need some advice on how to build them."

"There are numerous extinct plants that a few of the species fed from." Courtney cuts in. "We collected seeds and samples. All that remains is for us to cultivate a surplus of them. I will work with you on this, but special care should be taken as these plants could potentially grow out of control and destabilize the ecosystem."

"But of course." Professor Oak agrees. "Introducing new pokemon will have a lasting impact as well."

"I'm afraid this first generation is... probably a lost cause." I admit after a moment. "Or maybe not... all of the pokemon I have caught are unevolved and appear to be relatively young. But it is my hopes that the next generation, ones raised around humans might be a little tamer... the herbivores are admittedly much better but will still likely be shocked by the change in scenery and the loss of their herds. Plus, back then, most pokemon regardless of diet were on a hair trigger. Sure. Some symbiotic relationships existed, but more often than not the pokemon would attack on sight... or at the very least offer up a 'warning' in the form of an attack to not get close."

"You are doing a great thing, Xander." Professor oak smiles.

"I just think they're neat." I smile. "I don't want these pokemon to go extinct again... I have the potential to make a difference, to leave a lasting impression on the world for the better. So why shouldn't I?"

"I-"

"Sir... the egg in hatching." My computer chimes, Jarvis appearing in the top right.

"The... egg is hatching?" I echo. "Already? I could have sworn it was at least a couple of weeks out."

"Regardless, it's hatching."

I rise to my feet. "I apologize. I will be back in a moment."

I turn, quickly making my way through the home, walking out of the closet, through the bedroom- taking a brief moment to grab my scanner-, and into the kitchen-slash living room where Zinnia is sat on the couch watching Tv.

"Yo." She waves. "You done with that professor thing?"

"Not yet. Egg's hatching." I reply.

"Oh?" She echoes, quickly hopping up and following after me as I enter the indoor habitat.

At near the base of the tree is a shaking egg, grey in color with a few darker splotches across its shell.

*Crack*

*Crrk-*

I crouch down, just beside the egg, looking over it.

Indominus or White Spike... what are you going to be?

The egg shudders and shakes, a small clawed limb pushing out of the side of it.

It's quite stubby, sort of like a stuffed animal's fingerless paws but with three sharp red spikes on the end that act as 'claws'.

A horizontal crack appears in the egg as the top half begins to rise.

I gently reach out, lifting the eggshell revealing quite a large head.

I look down at a skull-like face, two piercing yellow eyes blinking up at me.

Indominus...

I rolled good on that.

The body's proportions are similar to a charmander's, but the body is rounder, I wouldn't say 'fatter' as that's probably all muscle, the tail is a bit stubbier and of course lacking charmander's iconic tail flame.

The head is longer, the front coming down sort of like a beak and there's a single small spike at the back of its head.

The head is white with two circular greyish brown patches just behind the eyes, its torso is the same color, like its got a turtle neck sweater on, but the lower belly and tail is a deep grey, with the legs being the same shade of white as the head.

I pull out my scanner. "Let's see here..."

A wave of light washes over the pokemon.

Most of the information is useless. It's a new species. There are no 'averages'.

Species: ?
Ability: Protean, Strong Jaw, Color Change
Type: Dragon/Dark
Moves: Bite, Scratch, Mean Look, Dragon Claw.
Size: 2'4 Feet Tall, 3'1 Feet Long
Weight: 72.4 Pounds

"So what is it?" Zinnia questions, peering over my shoulder.

"Dragon-Dark type."

"OOOOOH!" She gasps, stars in her eyes. "New Dragon Type!"

"It also has Protean, Strong Jaw, and Color Change."

"..."

"And that... Means?" The girl questions quietly. "I mean, I get strong jaw. Its bites will be second to none, but what the hell is Protean? And it can change colors? How is that useful?"

"Ah. That's the thing, Zinnia. Color change makes it so it gains the type of the last move it was hit with, replacing its current type..."

"Does it block the hit?" The girl questions.

"Nope. It'll be forced to face the attack as its original type before it changes." I reply.

"That's pretty fuckin useless, then." The girl frowns.

"Protean changes your type before you do a move, though. So... you'll be getting that same-type attack boost on all of your moves. Plus, if you start up a move... and cancel it... you could change your type pretty much at will."

"About to be hit by an ice beam, tell him to Ice Fang nothing and he'll be ice type by the time the beam hits."

"That's SO much better!" The girl gasps. "Why the hell would you ever want color change?!"

"I just told you the basics of color change... its true power would probably be the ability to camouflage its own body... plus it's possible that an experienced pokemon could simply decide to take whatever type it wants without being hit at all.

"Ah. That'd probably be a bit more useful." The girl agrees. "So, what are you going to call this thing?"

"As for the species name... I am unsure... for a personal name? I was thinking... Terry."

"Terry." Zinnia repeats.

"Mhm." I nod.

"Why?"

"It's a reference." I beam.

"..."

"To what?"

"You wouldn't get it." I sigh, shoulders slumping as I reach out to the small dinosaur king.

It sniffs my hand.

I am forced to quickly pull my hand back as it tries to bite it.

"Ah. Bitey little shit, aren't you."

I pick up the small reptile, walking back through the house. Through the living room, bed room, into the closet and into the office where I can hear the professors speaking.

"Sixty six." I call out as I walk back towards the computer, Courtney looks over her eyes widening slightly as I take a seat, lifting the little dinosaur into frame.

"We discovered... sixty six."

"Another new species!" Oak beams. "Incredible! What of this one? What will you call it? What type is it? Does it have an ability? What moves does it use?"

"This... is Terry. As for a species name... I'm unsure. To be frank, a lot of the pokemon I brought back have gone unnamed. Only a select few have been officially named such as the Kecleotauros, the ancient Bagon line, Bagrunt, Shellignant, and Malimence, the fossil pokemon, and pokemon like the Velocidgey line."

Courtney reaches out, going to pet the small creature.

"Ah. I wouldn't do that. He's quite bitey." I gently state.

She retracts her hand.

"As for your other questions..." I begin to list what I have just recently discovered.

And thus, two new pokemon professors are born!
