Draconis: Urgh.
Kenshin: Writers block?
Draconis: Yeah. It's my first time writing a lemon with a succubus OR incubus character in quite sometime and I don't want Yukari to be a red haired rip off of Alma Elma.
Alma: Well points for trying to make it you own thing nonetheless. Is that why nothing's really come my way in the story at all?
Draconis: Pretty much. (shrugs.) Also I can't stop thinking of things to write for the main story right now to the point that it's driving me up a wall.
Yukari: That's fair. Also, what's with the picture you're currently using for your profile avatar? (takes a drink)
Draconis: Oh, that's supposed to be you.
Yukari: (does a spittake, spraying Kenshin with water.) Wh-What?!
Kenshin: (unamused) Do you give towels with your showers? I'm guessing AI art?
Draconis: (sighs) Yes, because I can't draw for shit and can't pay for art commissions because bills. I have pics for all of you. Yukari, Miyuki, you, Hikari, hell even Marina if only for most of her outfit in chapter 138
Kenshin: (peeks into Drac's folder) Why does some of my pics have me with an orange cat?
Draconis: I dunno. Anyway.
Dragon of the Elements.
Chapter 140
A Few Good People.
Draconis: Begin!
(start)
Ragnarok walked toward a familiar location. He was currently walking in Kuoh town wearing a full body jacket, zipped up with the hood raised to conceal his power down to a normal youkai's. It had been an invention of Laplace's in conjunction with Lucia and Promestein while the latter was still with their group. His destination was the Lunar Cafe and it was early in the morning.
"Hm?" Hikari heard the bell ring as the door to the establishment opened and closed. "Damn it, I knew I shoulda locked that back. Sorry we're not open yet."
"It's fine, I don't plan on staying long or ordering anything."
"!" Hikari's eyes widened as he heard the voice. "Oh...hell no!" She thought, schooling her features.
"Please don't Hikari Tsuki. I only wish to speak and I will leave peacefully. Do not spike your power and alert Kenshin, Micaela or any of the ancestors to come here." Ragnarok requested.
"..." Hikari narrowed her eyes. "Just to speak huh? What would prompt such an act of mercy. Let's not play..." Hikari turned toward him. "If you really wanted to Ragnarok, you could drop me right now and I'd never take another breath again. I'd be on my way to see my husband Ryuushin again."
"I've been meaning to ask. I get how Kenshin came to end up romantically linked to his sisters, but how the hell did you and your brother do it?" Ragnarok asked.
"We didn't start to figure it out until Kenshin, Yukari and Miyuki were already born. By the time we found out for sure, the former two were already teenagers." Hikari said.
"Aaah..." Ragnarok said nodding.
"So, what brings you to me if it's not for me to call Kenshin here so you two can fight?" Hikari asked.
"...Shisui Marina." Ragnarok said.
"!" Hikari stepped back with wide eyes. "No...wa-wait...how do you...know that name?"
"...She asked me to come here." Ragnarok asked.
"But she's." Hikari said.
"Alive." Ragnarok said.
"! ! !" Hikari lunged forward and gripped Ragnarok by the shoulder. "Please...tell me you're lying."
"I would be lying." Ragnarok said.
"What the fuck is Yama ON then? !" Hikari snapped, moving back on her side of the cafe bar. "You know what...I need a fuckin' drink!" She grabbed a bottle of scotch and a ball tumbler glass and filled it almost all the way.
"His words were, he peered into the afterlife to see if he could find anyone to bring back to fuck with Kenshin. Remember what Yama said to Yukari, I know she told you, she had to have." Ragnarok said.
"Also Yukari, if you survive this battle. I need you to deliver a message to brother dearest." Yama said. "Every battle he's going to be involved in that concerns me...will grind away at him. You see. I 'could' bring back Shin Tatsu. I 'could' bring back that fool Heinrich if you all hadn't burned his body. I 'could' find some of daddy's DNA and have a body made from it and use him against you all, but the fact remains...that I merely don't have any interest in such things. It's Kenshin's turn to be a victim of my actions."
"I see..." Hikari said, recalling when Yukari had told that to her word for word, while Kenshin was laid up after the Trihexa raid. "Well, this could work out in his favor...Kenshin's I mean. The seal has been exposing itself...I'm guessing you know about it. If he sees her again it would make him remember her...and little Reina, at least that's what I hope would happ-."
"...Reina's alive too." Ragnarok said.
(shatter!)
The glass in Hikari's hand shattered. Not because she crushed it in her hand mind you, but she had dropped it out of shock. "W...What...did you just say?" Hikari asked.
"Reina's alive too." Ragnarok said.
"GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK! THERE HAS TO BE A LIMIT WITH THIS SHIT!" Hikari yelled. "Get out." Hikari growled. "I don't care if you are stronger than me. I'm kicking you the fuck out!"
"In a bit." Ragnarok said. "...Marina asked me to come here. She wants an update on how he's doing and to deliver a message."
"Out with it. I want to know everything she told you." Hikari said with a scowl.
"First off..."
(flashback)
"You want me to what?" Ragnarok asked while Reina was flying around, Taimu having followed after them after the memory viewing and was using her mana to make the little girl fly.
"This is so fun Tai Tai!" Reina said with a joyous laugh.
"She is so cute..." Taimu said with a fond smile.
"I want you to go to Hikari Tsuki...and just...ask her to give you an update on how Kenshin's doing...for me." Marina said looking down at the ground. "I heard he had to fight a monster called Trihexa...and he lost."
"Odd thing to be saying when you stole his memories of you." Ragnarok said offhandedly.
If anything this added to Marina's misery. "You're right...I...I know I shouldn't ask...what right do I have, but I can't help it. He is...was my hero...and I..lo-"
"Stop." Ragnarok said placing his hand on her shoulder. "I'm sorry, I can be heavy handed with my comments. It's clear as day that you regret doing it, but I agree with Taimu here. Taking the memories was the right call. I may not know why, but I do know a good deal about Kenshin. He wouldn't let himself get too involved with someone without a good reason."
"Yeah..." Marina said looking up at him, wiping her eyes.
"If I may, how long were you two living together with him?" Ragnarok asked, glancing at the carefree Reina.
"Only two months...funny isn't it? He became my hero and Rei Rei accepted him as her Papa...in only two months. I guess it kind of speaks to the situation we were in." Marina said looking back down, eyes narrowed with a fond smile.
"Or the kind of man Kenshin is...even back then. Alright." Ragnarok said. "I'll do it, but understand that if I'm gone, I want you to spend a lot of time around Taimu."
"I heard that." Taimu said looking over at them. "It won't be any trouble."
"Taimu-San...Ragnarok-San...thank you." Marina said.
(flashback end)
"..." Hikari finished cleaning the mess she had made earlier as Ragnarok finished recounting. "I see..."
"Look, I know you're upset with her. I don't blame you either. There IS no right or wrong answer here. Marina was right for taking the memories, even if she regrets it. Your husband is correct for wanting to keep them secret, because his time was very limited and he had no way to teach Kenshin to cope with something I doubt he ever really did cope with until he got you and his daughters back...and you're right to feel as though you could have been the one Kenshin could have leaned on." Ragnarok said.
"..." Hikari closed her eyes and let out a sigh pouring herself another drink. "Well...there's not a whole lot to tell. He lost and lost pretty damn badly. He told me just yesterday that he was having nightmares about it until several days ago."
"He must have been laid up for awhile, it was even peculiar to Yama how nothing happened concerning Kenshin considering his propensity for bouncing back." Ragnarok said. "But there was something I noticed as I trained with Kenshin and later fought him."
"Being?" Hikari said.
"He doesn't feel pain." Ragnarok said.
"Well, yeah he wa-" Hikari was cut off.
"No, I know about the abuse as a child and his training, I'm telling you. He DOESN'T feel pain." Ragnarok said. "I don't doubt he feels mental stress and weariness and emotional trauma...but physically. It's like it's just not there and he's just acting when he should feel it."
"..." Hikari narrowed her eyes in thought. "...Somehow...I think you're right, but he wasn't always like that. There are just somethings that someone even with deadened pain receptors should feel...that he just doesn't. Like after the battle against Trihexa. He didn't seem to be in pain despite him struggling to get to a standing base."
"Well, when the seal comes off maybe you should ask him." Ragnarok said.
"About that, if she's alive again and knows what's going on to a point, she has to know we found it. What are her thoughts?" Hikari asked, taking a pull off her drink.
"She agrees that it's probably time for the memories to be returned, she only wishes she could be there to give them back herself...but stressed that you exercise caution." Ragnarok said.
"That's what we were going to do anyway." Hikari said.
"Also...and this one even Yama admits he didn't intend to do, but Alferious Mammon is alive as well." Ragnarok said.
"..." Hikari stared into Ragnarok's eyes. "...Good."
"Good?" Ragnarok asked.
Hikari tilted her head back and finished her drink off. "Because that means I'll have the fucking chance to put his ass in the grave myself." She said with a scowl.
"Also...how did you feel about Kenshin adopting a child at his age?" Ragnarok asked. "Marina also mentioned that you and his father Ryuushin found out at the same time, over a call no less."
"Oh god that day." Hikari let out a fond laugh. "The second we heard that little girl call him Papa and he said he had to go, we pulled up to where he went immediately. He looked like he was scared for his life I swear!"
"Really, even after all the shit he went through, he still had the fear of god put in him by his parents." Ragnarok chuckled. "That's proof that his mental age was closer to his physical one than you realized."
"Yeah...sometimes I miss those days, of just the five of us being a family. I tried to have something akin to that with Azazel, but look where that got me." Hikari said with a melancholic smile.
"Whoa whoa whoa, you actually managed to tie down Mr Harems himself?" Ragnarok asked.
"I think he was at his version of mid life where he just wanted to settle down. Like if he wasn't forced to abdicate the position of Governor General for bringing Ophis to our side without notification, I'm convinced he'd have tried to find a way to shell it off on Shemhazai anyway."
"You seem to be really acquainted well with the Grigori." Ragnarok inferred
"Oh, Barkiel and Benemune or Penemune rather often come by for tea and coffee respectively. Benemune even has quite the sweet tooth." Hikari said. "Woman really knows how to pack away the pasteries."
"Riiighhtt..." Ragnarok said. "Well..one last thing before I go. Would you happen to know how Kenshin met Reina? I mean I can ask Marina, but.."
"Actually I can just show you. Look me in the eyes." Hikari said. "And clear your mind."
"..." Ragnarok's eyes met the Tsuki matriarch's and the two of them were in a white space. "A phantasmagoria...you were able to pull me in here? I've been training Marina in mana control in one of these."
"Only because you let me." Hikari said holding an orb in her hand. "This memory is from Kenshin, it was the day he got the job and and left Wales to go meet Reina, all the way until they started to go to where Marina was."
"Interesting." Ragnarok said. "Not even among Yama's disciples was there anyone that could freely tamper with the memories and soul of themselves or another. It is an ability innate to Kenshin alone."
"Indeed." Hikari said. "We will be watching as spirits, so if you get literally ran through by someone. Don't worry about it." Hikari said snapping her fingers as the expanse morphed into a victorian gothic building. They found themselves in a furnished room with a TV with a couch and a mini fridge. "Question." Ragnarok said. Hikari glanced at him. "If this is a memory pertaining to Marina and Reina...more specifically the latter and the former begged him to forget all about them how do you have it?"
"Well this is a copy of the memory. The source was sealed away sure, but this was in my mind as I experienced them with Ryuushin, turning them into my memory as well." Hikari said.
"I see...seeing as you don't want to risk a seal break on Kenshin, you kept it to yourself." Ragnarok said.
"Yeah..." Hikari said. "Anyway he's sitting over there and one more thing, we'll be able to hear his thoughts. He never bothered to cut this part out so it starts with a moment with him and Negi."
(A/N: From here Ragnarok's and Hikari's dialogue and actions will be underlined. To differentiate them from the memory.
The two approached the nearby couch where Kenshin was seated. Ragnarok was mildly surprised to see Negi laying on her stomach on the couch, her arms crossed on top of Kenshin's legs, head rested on her arms. "Gods this show is boring." Negi said with an unamused sigh.
"Huh." Ragnarok said to Hikari. "I guess it's because I only knew her in battle, but Kenshin and her were like that? She's kind of cute, almost like an adorable granddaughter in law."
"Hahaha. Yeah Negi did always try to go the extra mile to look good for Kenshin because she had it bad for him." Hikari laughed fondly.
"No kidding..." Kenshin said, an unenthused look on his face as he flipped through channels. "There's nothing else on either, I'd even take a slasher flick right now."
"Hmhm. Why? So I'd cuddle up to you with that cute frightened look on my face?" Negi said glancing up at him with a smile.
"Ah ha. I knew you were doing it on purpose." Kenshin said with a sly chuckle.
"Please, I was onto your game last year. Thinking you're slick or something...my nightmares are long behind me thanks to you after all." Negi said with a short giggle. "Anyway, one back rub please."
"Back bothering ya from hunching over a desk and studying all day?" Kenshin said as his tails came out and started rubbing various parts of Negi's back.
"Yeeeesss..." Negi cuddled herself against Kenshin. "Aah...!" She gasped feeling some bones and joints pop. "Kenshin, have I ever told you that your tail massages are the best?"
"Only every time I've done it." Kenshin said with a small grin. "Thank you Anatomy books and videos, and a big thanks to Tamamo for teaching me to actually use these tails."
"Mmmn, then more talky...more rubby..." Negi murmured, a relaxed look on her face as she took her glasses off and set them on the table in front of them.
"Pfft! Guess Kenshin and Tamamo really did have history." Ragnarok laughed.
"Shh.." Hikari said.
"You know, you're a lot less shy when we're alone like this. I mean you even slipped into something a little more comfortable than that mage suit you usually wear." He noted, seeing the red shorts she was wearing that stopped at mid thigh, with a purple stripe going up the sides and the black tanktop, just as form fitting as the shorts. "It's late Autumn, I mean really late. You sure you're not cold?"
"Well..." Negi smiled glancing away. "You know I love your family like they were my own right? It's just I know it's horrible to say, but I feel too high strung around them and you at the same time and I'm fine with the current temperature."
"Oh? What's so special about me alone?" Kenshin said.
"You're charming and nice. You know a girl can really relax and let their hair down so to speak around you." Negi said as she sat up.
"Is that right?" Kenshin said with a grin. "Is that your way of saying you like me?"
"Kenshin Kuroshi I've always liked you." Negi said with a small, cute pout.
"So you're fine with our relationship as it is?" Kenshin asked with a teasing smile.
"A-Aa...wawawawawa...!" Negi's cheeks dyed red as she looked away with a nervous look.
"Hahaha...oh I know it's mean but she's just too cute when she's flustered." Kenshin thought.
"Oh? I didn't know he actually knew how to actively get a rise out of a girl he likes." Ragnarok said.
"Surprised me too when I saw this the first time." Hikari said.
"And if I wanted more...?" Negi asked.
Kenshin paused for a moment. "Did she just..." A smile stretched across his face. "Depends...how much we talkin' here?"
"Something like this..." Negi said, scooting closer to him, until they were pressed up against against each other, her breasts pressing against his arm.
"..." Kenshin's eyes narrowed as Negi's did. "You can have that and so much more..." He whispered, his voice going near silent as he continued, their lips close to meeting. "You can have eve-"
A loud vibrating and ringtone was heard and Ragnarok groaned loudly. "Perfect timing to fuck up a good romantic scene between two would be lovers! If anyone did that to me I'd have swung on the cause!"
"Trust me Ragnarok, I was PISSED when I heard that at the time." Hikari said.
The memory continued. "Kenshin, your phone's ringing." Negi said.
"I'm not here right now." Kenshin said before it vibrated again."Ugh..."
"Hmhm, Kenshin I appreciate you trying to make time for us to be alone together, but I don't think they're gonna stop." Negi smiled. "Go on, I'll be here when you get back."
"You're too sweet sometimes you know that." Kenshin said before groaning as he peeled himself off the couch. "I'll see if I can't make this quick."
"Hurry back." Negi said with a titter as Kenshin left the room, and academy as a whole. Going into the nearby forest he threw four charms around him in a diamond formation and flashed a handsign."Silencing seals active...alright..." He answered his communicator's call taking a breath. "WHAT? !"
"Damn Kenshin, do you not know how to pick up a phone?" A relaxed voice said on the other end. "Why you yellin' man, really bringing my high down."
"Yes I do, do y'all know the meaning of the word 'Sabbatical', Daniel?" Kenshin asked. "I told Rantou I needed a break, that's why I'm yelling."
"Why, so you can continue to strike out with the Thousand Master's daughter?" Sin asked from the background. "Besides a Sabbatical is a work study, literally. We can still call you in."
"Vesper you about to be down a fuckin' brother!" Kenshin growled.
"Kenshin, Kenshin relax." Vesper said. "Sin! You know we don't give him grief over what he's trying to make with that girl, the hell's wrong with you? !"
"Psh, I don't know why he's talkin' any how, took him till he was twenty one to confess to Kanna." Scott said chidingly
"Hey!" Sin shouted.
"Pfft, you givin' me shit and it took you that long? Man..." Kenshin said. "Now what do you want? I was so fucking close to taking a massive leap forward, so I'm kinda irritated, especially when my Sabbatical was already accepted."
"I guess it's because shit like that didn't exist in the Divine Wars era...but if I requested a leave from the battlefield from Lady Alipheese and she said it was accepted and I still got called back...I'd be pretty heated too." Ragnarok said.
"That's basically what happened. He's understandably nettled and Sin was always trying to press his buttons about Negi." Hikari said.
"Aagh..." Vesper, Sin, Scott and Daniel all vocally cringed.
"What?" Kenshin said before his eyes narrowed. "Oh no, tell me you didn't."
"S-Sorry." Vesper said. "It was while you were out, putting Sanderson's head in a bag and what followed, which we won't talk about. We received two offers for a job and both of them specifically called for you. One of them asked for a younger man asking for protection and you're the youngest buck we got by a decent margin. The other explicitly called you out by code name."
"Look, I might have swiped my V Card already but what the fuck! For fuck's sake I'll be sixteen in June!" Kenshin said. "Also...erm..th-thanks for not bringing that up."
"Technically here you are a grown man, if you so wanted. You could bring that Negi girl here and make her your wife today. I mean both her parents are kinda MIA right now, so you'd have to get the permission of her cousin." Daniel chided.
"Aah? !" Kenshin paused, his face going cherry red.
"He's actually right you know." Arika said. "You wouldn't even need to ask Nekane because I'd give you my blessing." She said with a giggle.
"Arika-! You're not helping!" Kenshin thought in distress.
"I'm not hearing anything that sounds like a refute." Scott chided.
"Besides, do you know how jealous all the men were when we heard you went to Hellas yourself and delivered Sanderson's head? Iris told us all about it. You reconciled with Theodora didn't you? She said she could hear you two in there." Sin said.
"...Oh my god you all are jealous of me for...y'all some hoes!" Kenshin snapped. "Yes I did and guess what, her mother got involved!"
"WHAT? !" Sin, Vesper, Daniel, Scott and a now entering Rantou all shouted.
"HAHAHAHAHA!" Ragnarok laughed racously. "The ol mother daughter threesome!"
"I...don't like how you put that..." Hikari deadpanned.
"Haha...s-sorry. It's just around the time male youkai started getting made some of them actually pulled that off with some human women, remembering how they bragged is what I was really laughing at." Ragnarok said wiping his eye
"Next time don't interrupt my moment with my and I quote 'Onion girl'! And find someone else! I'm on Sabbatical! Bye!" Kenshin said.
"Hang on Hang on!" Vesper said. "Kenshin please hear us out."
"You got fifteen minutes, after that I'm hanging up and going back to what I was doing ." Kenshin said.
"You know why we call her Onion girl right?" Sin asked. "Cause Kenshin cries when she leaves but loves watching her go!" He laughed.
"OH MY GOD! YOU HAVE SEVEN MINUTES NOW!" Kenshin snarled loudly. "And Sin you gonna catch these hands if you keep it up! I'll teleport to HQ right now to run a thirty second beat down on your ass."
"I was just playin' man damn!" Sin said.
"Whatever. Rantou, Vesper Go, seeing as you two seem to be the only ones that have any sense right now." Kenshin said.
"Right, thank you." Rantou said. "Vesper, I'll handle this."
"Right, here's the files, Kenshin activate your holo projector." Vesper said.
"Right Right." Kenshin said doing just so. An icon of a pair of folders was displayed in front of him. "Alright, Go Rantou."
"Well which job do you want to take?" Rantou asked.
"Well...hrm...you kind of sound like you want me to take both." Kenshin said.
"Look, no one other than you fits the description and one of the people asking is Angeal, that's the one on your left." Rantou said.
"Angeal? The moonlighting white hacker that we employ?" Kenshin asked as he sifted through the dossier which wasn't much, it didn't even have a picture. "I've been meaning to talk to her. She's actually warned me off a few jobs through email. When I went looking into the details I found out they'd take me precariously close to Megalo...Noooo thank you! Was gonna ask her what I could do for her as thanks."
"Hahahaha." Rantou said. "Also Sesshou. I just wanted to apologize for calling you like this when you did indeed request a sabbatical and I told you it was accepted to your face."
"Aahh, it's fine I guess. I did say I'd help you guys out if you asked. Just why does Sin constantly press my buttons like that?" Kenshin said rolling his eyes. "I swear ever since I turned thirteen and realized I was missing being around Negi and my family he's been pressin' my shit about Negi."
"Oh that's just his way of paling around. You only pick on your friends." Rantou chuckled. "He might also be trying to goad you into making a move on that Negi girl. He doesn't want to see you hesitate for years like he did."
"And instigate on the opposition." Kenshin chuckled back. "I think I get it now, so Angeal is the one asking for protection?"
"Yes." Rantou said.
"Well let me hear the one asking for me specifically then. See if I can put it on the backburner." Kenshin said flicking the right folder open.
"The requester's name is Kazuhiko Midoriya." Rantou said. "He's fleeing from Yorigami Plague, the number two organization in the Mundus Magicus Underworld behind us and is asking for an escort to the Frenchman's Widow."
"The Frenchman's Widow? You mean that cabaret we always go to when we're near the borders of Vespertatia and the Confederacy?" Kenshin asked. "He's basically asking me to take him out drinking with me."
"I don't know why he's deadset on that place either, but the plot thickens. Angeal also has ties to Yorigami Plague. It's where she was living while she was moonlighting for us until recently. You know who heads that outfit up right?"
"Alpha Midas. We've met. Not in person but dude got the contact info to one of my burner phones trying to pull me to Yorigami Plague, so I destroyed the damn thing afterward. I told him to blow me. His history speaks for itself. He's screwed over more people than I've packed up and you know what my list of Heavenly Packs looks like." Kenshin scoffed. "Not gonna lie I'd love to get some one on one time with that idiot and just put the beats on him, just straight hand work and then escort him to the afterlife."
"Right...send him to God, can't expect him to do all the work." Rantou said letting out a sigh to himself. "Anyway Kazuhiko just needs to get someone to the cabaret and then we'll take it from there and help him vanish."
"Who?" Kenshin said. "Also it's weird to hear you in full support of me just going out and killing someone without a mission. You usually hate it when Yukari and I hit the bounty boards because of the extra paperwork."
"That just speaks to the kind of trash the man is, anyway to answer your question." Rantou said.
The screen flashed to a little girl with black bangs and fringe and blonde hair over the rest. "Wait..." Kenshin said with wide eyes. "Rantou...that's a child. She can't be any older than five."
"Yes. Kazuhiko said someone's meeting him at the Frenchman's Widow to take the child into safety." Rantou said.
"..." Kenshin gazed pensively at the screen. "Can't I send Yukari to meet Angeal?"
"No. She said a younger man specifically. I believe she's been done badly by women in Yorigami Plague. It's not a question of Yukari's character...but I think older men and women both younger and older are no gos. If you're worried. Yukari's been asking for solo missions anyway. She said it was to take the load off you." Rantou said
"Off me? I know I ain't told her about my sabbatical yet...but after last week..." Kenshin let out a shivering breath. "Damn it. You keep me posted on her, OK? Also continue to monitor Miyuki as well."
"Of course." Rantou said. "So which will it be?"
"Could you call or message Angeal to tell her I accept, but I have business I need to take care of first." Kenshin asked.
"Yes, she'll understand." Rantou said. "If that is all I'll uplink Kazuhiko's and Angeal's coordinates into your communicator."
"Thank you." Kenshin said. "End communication." The line went dead and Kenshin looked back at the Welsh Magic Academy. "...Sorry Negi, looks like I'll need to take a rain check on what we were doing."
The sound of leaves crunching alerted Kenshin who rounded wide eyed only to visibly relax seeing his father Ryuushin. "How much of that did you hear?" He asked.
"Pretty much all of it. I happened to be passing by when you set up the silencers, so I was unaffected." Ryuushin said. "Look while Yukari's waiting for work from them. She's going to be blowing them up asking about you once you leave. I'm not going to stop you because in your shoes I'd go too."
"No kidding...and if she hears about me working solo. She's gonna run me down. Still I don't get what she means by take the load off me." Kenshin said.
"Kenshin, sometimes when you come back from working alone, you are just spent, physically and mentally, sometimes we can't wake you up for at least a day or two. People aren't supposed to take miniature comas after work." Ryuushin said.
"..." Kenshin looked down at the ground for a moment. "I can take it, always have been able to."
"For how much longer though? I used to think just like you do son." Ryuushin said. "Look at me now. Out of my prime in my mid thirties."
"Well I'll just have to try and avoid whatever got you so sick it debilitated you." Kenshin said with a sigh before holding his hand up. "We're getting off topic. So do you want me to give you a spare communicator?"
"And I want you to keep me posted, if I don't hear from you after three days after your last check in. I'LL be the one looking for you." Ryuushin said.
"Catch." Kenshin said tossing him a communicator. "That's fair."
"Alright." Ryuushin said. Kenshin started to walk away to do his warp out when Ryuushin called out to him. "Kenshin, before you go. Can you tell me what caused you to disappear with your sisters last week? It's been nearly a week since you got back."
"..." Kenshin looked down at the ground. "I need to get moving. I'll...tell you when I get back."
"..." Ryuushin's eyes narrowed solemnly looking down at his son's hands, seeing them quivering. "Can you at least give me something?"
"...It had to do with their captivity under Hottan...and...we almost lost them." Kenshin said.
"Lost them? Surely you don't me-" The words died in Ryuushin's throat as Kenshin turned to look at him with a look that made it clear that something was bothering him.
"Unfortunately...I do...and if I'm heading out to work...I...need to not have what happened last week haunting me." Kenshin said.
"..." Ryuushin stared at Kenshin at a loss for words. "I see...it must have really scared you...why am I talking like I'd have reacted any better? Go ahead. But I want to know everything when you get back." He said with his eyes closed, letting out a heavy sigh.
"Yeah." Kenshin said walking away.
(break)
"So Yukari and Miyuki nearly died?" Ragnarok asked.
"Ryuushin and I wouldn't find out till later, even then the memory of what he said he did escapes me." Hikari said.
"So this explains how he got put onto the job." Ragnarok said as the two followed Kenshin. "Also...why the eye patch?" Ragnarok asked pointing at his left eye, referencing the eyepatch Kenshin was wearing.
"Back then that golden eye needed youki to see. It was a low but constant drain on his reserves. It was probably him being overly cautious, but he only took it off in fights." Hikari said. "The eyepatch was made for him by Miyuki."
Kenshin was walking through grasslands. "Huh...Kazuhiko wanted me to meet him in the Midori Kiseki Pasture? Not gonna lie. I like his tastes." He said taking a deep breath. "Haaa...mmn that is some FRESH air, can't get it like this in a city or a town." He said with a content smile as the gentle wind blew through his hair before taking out his communicator and punching up a text. "Zetta's at the pasture."
"I'll let him know." Vesper texted back. "You know, you should keep that name over Sesshou."
"Not gonna lie, it's growing on me." Kenshin texted back.
Kenshin heard a procession of footsteps approaching him, but immediately leaned backward as a figured stabbed a short sword at him. He backflipped, knocking the man onto his back with a kick, before holding him to the ground pinned with a dagger to his throat. "Don't make me muss up this field of green miracles man. Supposedly a dryad spirit calls this place home."
"That's just a recent folktale. Sorry. I just had to be sure you were legit." The man said.
Kenshin let out a sigh and stood up letting the man stand. He had messy dark green hair and green eyes. He wore a black tanktop and blue jeans. He had a muscled build. "So you're Kazuhiko Midoriya?"
"Yeah..and you're...lankier than I thought you'd be." Kazuhiko said. "But hell you did just put me on the ground so I won't talk any shit. Thank you for taking this job Zettai Sesshoumaru. I know it's not what you're used to."
"And how would you know that? I know my code name implies it heavily, but I could be making a killing as perfectionist housekeeper for all you know." Kenshin asked with a deadpan stare. "Anyway, just call me Zetta."
"Right..." Kazuhiko said.
"So, there's you, where's the little girl?" Kenshin asked. "Don't tell me you lef-"
"No no." Kazuhiko said. "I told her to stay hidden. Reina!" He called out with a friendly tone. "Come on out. This is the person that I called to meet us."
"..." Kenshin watched as a small figure approached. She wore a jacket and sneakers, she looked like she was cold even despite this. "Kazuhiko...please tell me she's properly dressed under that coat."
"Dressed yes...for the time of the year? Noo..." Kazuhiko cringed. "I-I'm sorry I was in a rush to get her away from her father, the jacket she's wearing is actually mine."
"Her father? Ay...yo...that's family stuff man." Kenshin said with a conflicted look. "You called me to interject myself into a family squabble?"
"You don't understand." Kazuhiko said, his expression becoming serious and desperate, trying to relay the next bit of information calmly. "I didn't know where else to turn. Her mother was the one that recommended you to me. Her father was going to sell her off, to god only knows who or what."
The little girl shivered, her eyes becoming emotional. Kenshin looked down at her. She matched the description of what he was given the girl should look like. Black bangs and fringe, blonde hair everywhere else. Seeing her reaction to what Kazuhiko just said...was all the proof Kenshin needed. Kenshin approached her and knelt down. "Hey." He said with a smile.
She looked up at him. "Y...Yes?" She said, her voice audibly breaking.
"..." Kenshin narrowed his eyes solemnly before taking off his jacket. "Here. It'll keep you warmer than just what you got on." He said draping his jacket over her shoulders with a comforting smile.
"W-Won't...you get cold...mister?" She asked.
"..." Kenshin closed his eyes, his smile widening. "I'll be OK little one, you just worry about you." He said gently petting her head.
"...Mm..." The girl closed her eyes, visibly relaxing.
"So what's your name?" Kenshin asked.
"R-Reina...m-my las name's kina hard to say..." Reina introduced, tripping over a word or two.
"It's Shisui." Kazuhiko supplied.
"Well, I'm Zetta, but if that's too hard, you can call me Mr Ken Ken." Kenshin said.
"OK...Mr. Ken Ken...uhm..." Reina looked away. "Uhm..."
"What is it?" Kenshin asked before Reina turned to Kenshin with tears in her eyes.
"...Why don't my Papa want me?" Reina asked.
"..." Those words slammed through Kenshin. "Oh god..." He thought.
"That is so much to unpack..." Mirai said with a morose tone.
"Holy shit..." Ryuujin said. "I'm a piece of fuckin work, but fuck."
"That poor girl! !" Arika said fighting back tears.
"..." Kenshin reached over and pulled Reina into an embrace. "I...don't have an answer for you right now, all I can offer you is this."
"Mm..." Reina nodded, wrapping her arms around Kenshin's neck. "You are so warm Mr Ken Ken..."
"Hahaha...I know. I told you I'll be alright in the cold. It doesn't bother me." Kenshin said with a grin as he pumped youki into his jacket as Reina slipped her arms into the sleeves. It fit to her smaller frame
"Wow..." Reina said looking herself over. "It was so big..."
"Heheheh." Kenshin chuckled. "I don't exactly have anything off hand that a kid would like and we need to get moving, but..." He said pulling a small bag of candy out of his seals. "Here."
Reina took out a piece of candy and popped it into her mouth. "Mm! Sweet!"
Kenshin stood up and pat her head. "Alright, Kazuhiko lead the way. I'll keep my eye on little Rei Rei here, when we stop for the night I'll take some actual food out."
"Heh." Kazuhiko grinned. "Her mother calls her that too, she tried to get her away from Alpha first, but they were attacked and separated, coincidentally that's who we're going to meet."
"Copy copy." Kenshin waved him off.
"Also...Zetta...thank you." Kazuhiko said.
"Yeah." Kenshin said with a smile. "Come on Rei Rei."
"OK." Reina nodded.
Ragnarok and Hikari exited the phantasmagoria and Ragnarok got up. "Thanks for answering my questions...also Taimu and I are planning to try and move the two."
"Move them?" Hikari asked.
"For some reason. Yama's curse of corruption goes into remission around Reina." Ragnarok said. "But I don't want to chance it being active while he doesn't know she's there and Alferious has been feeding into his worst impulses while it's active and it's not like Yama had a lot of GOOD impulses to start with. Continuing to keep them around Yama is negligent and dangerous to them both."
"...Then...bring them to me! I'll take them in!" Hikari said. "Yeah I got my gripes with Marina but Reina's my adopted granddaughter! I love that little girl!"
"Me arriving here was a one off. Yama's already gonna be asking questions when I get back. I can't do it. Taimu and I personally can't do it, but we have an idea on who can...and we just need his location because Taimu can't view his flame in the River of Time." Ragnarok said tossing a face down picture in front of her.
"..." Hikari took the picture and looked at it, only to look at Ragnarok in abject shock and anger. "OH FUCK NO!"
"He's the only one who can." Ragnarok said.
Hikari tossed the picture onto the cafe bar. "And you want to have him do it? ! Are you fucking mental? !"
"I don't know who else to turn to. It has be him. Anyone else that is a former enemy of Kenshin is locked up and hates him, is his ally now...or dead, and it has to be a former enemy so I can spin that I was trying to recruit them to Yama only to get turned on." Ragnarok said.
"Yeah well good fuckin luck with that one." Hikari said. "He's locked up in Lucifer's Prison. Do with that what you will, but if he tries anything he's a dead man. Now get out. I have to get ready for the day." Hikari said walking away from the cafe bar.
"Yeah. I have to leave, burn this cloak I'm wearing so I can lie to Laplace and say it didn't work as intended and get back." Ragnarok said as he left the Lunar Cafe.
The picture on the cafe that was left behind, was a of a man with an ashy dark skinned complexion and yellow eyes. He had long silver hair and wore a black sweater.
It was a photo...of the Former Demon King of Makai, Sixteenth to be exact. The homunculus Forbesii.
(Break)
Later that day.
Issei was walking up to Kuoh Academy with a familiar person with blonde hair and golden eyes. The academy was empty and a barrier was up so there was nine fluffy tails swishing behind her. "So this is Kuoh Academy."
"Yup. This is where you'll be attending if you insist on coming here in your true form Kunou-Chan." Issei said, seeing her dressed up in Kuoh Academy's high school uniform."
"Well of course. I wanna be in the same place as you after all." Kunou said with a carefree smile.
"Well alright then." Issei grinned before turning his head to the gate. He saw Kenshin standing there, looking through his album necklace. He seemed to be in his own little world as he smiled, looked surprised, then chuckled fondly as he turned the pictures from one to the next.
"Hey Kenshin-Sama!" Kunou called out.
"?" Kenshin seemed to be snapped from his reverie and turned toward them. "Oh, you're here. Sorry I...was just looking at some pictures I had in here that I never noticed before."
"Oh?" Kunou said.
"You didn't notice them? Did your dad leave them in the back or something?" Issei asked.
"I have no idea." Kenshin said.
"May I see?" Kunou asked.
"Do you mind?" Issei asked.
"Nah." Kenshin detatched the album from his necklace. Issei and Kunou crowded around him.
"What are you three looking at?" Kenshin glanced over and saw Sona approaching.
"Hm...here." Kenshin said stepping back, handing the album to Kunou and letting Sona come up next to her and those three started looking.
"Awwww. Who's the cute kid Kenshin-Sama?" Kunou asked.
"That's just it...I..don't know." Kenshin shrugged.
The picture was of Kenshin walking through town holding hands with a little girl with black bangs and fringe with blonde hair. "Huh, it's like the reverse Azazel haircut with brighter blonde." Sona noted. "Are you certain you don't know this child Kenshin? You seem to be pretty happy to be walking her around like that, and she's even smiling at you while pointing something out.
"Not gonna lie I wish could remember if I knew her or not. She's looks absolutely adorable." Kenshin said, not noticing Issei snap a picture of the picture with his phone.
"This is setting off so many bells right now. I got to capture these and ask Yukari-San, Chief or Hikari-San about them." Issei thought.
Sona however did notice. "Why did you do that?" She whispered.
"I'll explain later." Issei whispered back.
They flipped to the next picture. It showed a woman standing in front of a mirror, wearing one of Kenshin's jackets, a strapped pink top underneath and shorts that ended at mid thigh. She had long blonde hair that curled a bit toward the ends and red, nearly pupiless red eyes save for a thin silver circle around where her pupil would be. Said eyes were wide in surprise and her face was bright red as Kenshin was also shown in the picture in the mirror's reflection with a teasing smile. His red shirt unbuttoned as he leaned against the door way with his right arm over his head, holding a camera in his left at mid torso level.
"Wow, she's so pretty." Kunou said.
"Right? I mean I don't remember her either, but there are several pictures of me with that woman and the child." Kenshin said.
"Man Kunou-Chan you ain't kidding." Issei said, inconspicuously taking another picture of the picture.
"Something's up here...Kenshin's memory is usually almost photographic, for him to not remember not one, but two people he has pictures of, in the album hanging from his necklace which he keeps close to his heart...isn't like him." Sona thought.
"Hey, aren't we here to show Kunou around?" Kenshin asked. "Could I get my album back so we can get started?"
"Sure." Kunou said taking the album and closing it before walking up to Kenshin.
The four proceeded inward, Kenshin and Kunou were ahead while Sona and Issei hung back for a few moments. "What's going on here Issei?" Sona asked with a low tone as Kenshin pointed things out to Kunou and gave an explanation.
"..." Issei looked over at the two before nodding. "I'm gonna ask Yukari, Chief or Hikari-San about it, but Kenshin knows those two. I just didn't know right off rip what they looked like. I'd tell you more, but we can't talk about it around Kenshin."
"Hm?" Sona blinked curiously. "Hrmmm...open up a group chat later between everyone that knows about this and add me to it. It would allow for seamless communication as I imagine Yukari, Miyuki Negi-San and Hikari-San are usually responsive and it's not like Kenshin makes a habit about going through people's phones."
"Good idea." Issei said.
"Eh? Hey what are you two doing back there?" Kenshin asked, turning his head to glance curiously at them. "Issei you hitting on Sona back there?"
"Haha, not at all." Sona laughed softly. "I was just accosting Issei about his grades in the finals."
"I tried my best damn it..." Issei said with an air of gloom around him.
"..." Kenshin pondered for a moment. "Maybe that is what they were doing, but why feel the need to whisper about it?" Kenshin thought. "...Mnn...maybe Sona wouldn't have wanted me to pick on Issei too much." He thought. "Well it's not like I did much better."
"Yes, but you and Yukari both said numerous times that you were mentally drained from something else." Sona said.
"Keh.." Kenshin turned away as he stifled a laugh, his eyes turning to white dots.
"..." Issei deadpanned at Kenshin, but said nothing. "So anyway Kai...er...Sona-San. What are you doing here anyway?"
"Well, I guess I wanted to use my days off on a nostalgia trip." Sona said with her eyes narrowed looking over at the academy.
"Oh?" Kenshin said.
"I remember very well when I first came here. Rias was the one who brought me." Sona said.
"I smell a story." Kunou said.
Kenshin shook his head chuckling at Kunou. "If you're OK with it, we'd like to hear it Sona."
Sona smiled at Kenshin. "Well...I'm sure Rias wanted to show Kuoh Academy to me, as her child-"
Kenshin cut in. "Best friend." Kenshin corrected. "One of, but come on, let's call it what it is Sona." He said with a small grin.
"Right." Sona nodded. "I still remember the overjoyed look she wore when she was showing me around."
"Did you enroll here because of her?" Issei asked.
"No actually. Rias didn't suggest a thing. Still I found myself enchanted by this place. At the time it was decided that I would go to school in the Underworld, but after coming here, I had a change of heart." Sona paused to close her eyes letting out a soft laugh. "I still remember my sister's shock when I told her I wanted to attend school in the human world. It was priceless. Something worth remembering even now ufufu."
"Heheh, I bet it was." Kenshin chuckled. "I can only imagine."
Sona looked ahead with a small smile. "A lot of things happened the past three years, especially when I became a third year, the surprises have been too many to count."
"Yeah, it really has. Even if you factor out Yukari's and I's forced time leap it's still jarring how much we've all been through." Kenshin said before reaching over and grabbing Sona's hand.
"..." Sona looked back over at him and her smile broadened a bit.
"Right..." Issei thought. "What Sona is likely going through, the sorrow at losing Leviathan-Sama to her fighting Trihexa in the Isolation Barrier Field...there's no way she's not worried, and I think Kenshin understands her right now better than nearly everyone in that regard." He then looked over at Kenshin. "Then there's Kenshin himself. That Marina woman and her daughter. Knowing the kind of guy Kenshin is, he was likely trying to pave the way for them both to live a better life, he had to have been. However in one night...it was all taken away and it probably left him with a hole in his heart, mind and soul...but was Marina wrong to take the memories away to begin with? There's just too much we don't know"
"Ah, Kaichou, you're here." Everyone turned to see Saji approaching.
"Saji? What is it?" Sona asked.
"Oh, uh...the matter from before can be dealt with. Tsubaki asked me to find you." Saji said.
"Oh, well I suppose we should return then. Also, Issei congratulations on your promotion." Sona said turning to Saji. I will be present at the ceremonial hall."
"Oh yeah. I will too, but Ajuka just wants to go over some things with me." Kenshin said. "Otherwise I'd just hold down the fort till you got back."
"Also, don't forget what I said." Sona said, glancing at Issei, making sure he got the underlying meaning in what she said.
"R-Right, I'll manage myself better and study harder." Issei said with a sweatdropping smile.
"Oh, right. I'll be there too! Also. What are you gonna do about the tournament? Are you gonna participate under Rias-Senpai...or..." Saji trailed off.
"...You and Vali are asking the same thing. Who knows." Issei said with a shrug.
"Well, we'll be there." Saji said with a grin.
"So will I." Kenshin said with a shrug. "But let's not try to coerce the guy Saji. Nothing's worse as a fighter than finding an opponent who don't wanna be there and was merely pressed into it."
"Right, Right...if Hyoudou did participate and we beat him, but it carried an asterisk of him just not being interested. I don't think I'd be too thrilled about that." Saji said before looking up at the sky. "I've also received an offer to become a Mid Class Devil." Saji said.
"Is that right? Hell yeah that's what's up." Kenshin said slapping him on the back.
"Seriously? Congrats man!" Issei said.
"I...don't know how a lot of that works, but nice work Saji-San." Kunou said.
"Thanks. It was partly because of us being able to stand up to the third ranker in the Rating Game. Like Kenshin..I know you and your friends were able to hang with them even with you powered down, but that's still an Ultimate Class devil of upper rank in that category." Saji said. "Tsubaki also is receiving recommendations, though the battles we faced as a part of DxD and even before than in Makai likely played the biggest roles." Saji said. "I even heard a few voices recommending High class which shocked the hell out of me. Though some of that might have something to do with you Kuroshi."
"It ain't got shit to do with me." Kenshin said shaking his head. "You forget that my standing with the council isn't the greatest, not that I care. This is all your work finally paying off."
"...You know...I think you might be right." Saji said before turning to Issei. "I'm not sure if I can take you Hyoudou, but if you're willing I'd at least like the chance. Besides wasn't going wild in the Rating Game part of our aim too?" Saji asked. "So with that in mind I want to stand on the same stage as you. I really do. Issei, I might have gotten you eliminated in last summer's Rating Game and Kenshin. Issei and I might technically hold a combined win against you, but that isn't something I really count."
"Heh, so you want that round two?" Kenshin asked with a short laugh.
"Pfft, please. That round one. I never even got to fight you in the Rating Game you had against Kaichou anyway." Saji said.
"Ha! OK, but just remember you signed up for the crazy work you got coming your way if we do get matched up." Kenshin said.
Issei presses his fist against Saji's chest. "Yeah, when that happens...let's continue where we left off...I've always thought about beating you on the Rating Game's battlefield..." Issei turned his head to Kenshin. "There was a lot of shit going on in that win he's talking about to, so I don't really count it either."
"Oh?" Kenshin said with an interested look.
Saji nodded and left, Sona turned to leave as well when Kenshin called out to her. "Yes?"
"If you ever wanna just talk, you have my number." Kenshin said.
Sona caught the underlying meaning. "There's no reason for you to have to deal with Serafall's departure alone. I'm here if you need me." She nodded and smiled. "Of course. I'll keep that in mind. Have a nice day you three."
"My oh my. So many passionate boys do come around you Issei." Kunou said.
"So if I got what you just said to me correctly." Kenshin said looking over at Issei. "You've decided?"
"I want a little more time to mull it over...also Kenshin..I have a request." Issei said.
"I have a pretty clear idea of what it is, but speak." Kenshin said.
"When I get my set of Evil Pieces. Trade Kazumi, Chachamaru and Erubetie-San to me."
"Done." Kenshin said extending his hand to Issei and the two shook on it. "Which means I really will need to be at the ceremony. I'll bring them too. Anyway I should probably bring Granberia too, so Vali and I can have a discussion. My peerage is gonna see a lot of turnaround. Anyway Issei I'll leave you two alone."
Later that night Issei was sitting in his room alone when he took out his phone. "Well...now's as good a time as any." He brought up his contacts and moved Rias, Yukari, Miyuki, Hikari, Sona and Negi into a group chat. Why did he have Negi's number you might ask. Well the mage happened to take an interest in his power as the Sekiryuutei and the fact that Ddraig was literally the Welsh Dragon with her being Welsh herself, she found it as a good point of magic research.
Before he could type a message. A message popped up from Miyuki. "Issei? What's up?"
"Oh, so Issei started this group." Rias posted.
"What is it?" Negi posted before looking at the names in the chat. "Uhm...do you know?"
"Yeah, Yukari told me, because I was about to unknowingly ask about it right to Kenshin's face." Issei posted.
"..." Hikari posted silence for a moment before adding. "So...what is it?"
"Did you find something?" Yukari posted. "Also, why's Sona here?"
"Because he and I found this at the same time." Sona posted. "Issei go ahead..."
"Well I was giving Kunou-San the tour of the academy when we both bumped into Kenshin looking at his album necklace. Now that in and of itself is nothing. He's looking through it at least once a week or once a couple of weeks, but he seemed to be so absorbed into it, surprised by what he found..then he just kinda laughed. Like a...fond, nostalgic kinda of laugh."
"OK?" Everyone except Sona posted.
"This is the first picture Sona and I saw." Issei said before posting the picture he had taken of Kenshin holding hands and walking with the young, two toned haired girl.
"Aww...she's cute." Rias said.
"Yeah, Onii-Chan looks happy too." Miyuki said.
"They look like a happy father and...dau..ghter..." Negi said. "...Oh my god."
"Wait! That child is the girl Kenshin adopted? !" Rias said.
"And this was in his album? !" Miyuki said.
"...Mom?" Yukari said.
"..." Hikari posted silence again, before taking a moment to gather herself. "That little girl's name is Reina Shisui. Yes she IS the child Kenshin adopted and took in. What's more her mother and I were the ones that took this picture."
"So wait, Kenshin has an adopted daughter?" Sona asked.
"Had." Yukari said.
"Sona, come into a private room with me." Rias said.
A few minutes passed and Sona and Rias both came back into the group. "I-I see." Sona said.
On her end of the phone Hikari started to feel sick. "Oh god I JUST found out that Reina and Marina are alive again myself and now I find out Kenshin has pictures of them STILL on him? !" She thought.
"There's one more." Issei said posting the second picture. "After this one, Kenshin asked for his album back."
"So, by process of thought. This is almost certainly Reina's mother." Negi said.
"I'm just trying to lighten the mood, but does anyone else think it's funny that Onii-Chan's the one teasing here." Miyuki said.
"Oh yeah, he one hundred percent caught her slipping." Issei said.
"Well it was intentioned. Look at the hand on the door frame. It's relaxing from a handsign. He probably was using the camouflage technique." Yukari said.
"Well, I kinda can't blame him. From the look of him, he probably woke up, saw his jacket was missing, but then maybe heard her humming or something while looking herself over in the mirror so he took out a camera, dropped the camo and caught her. I agree with what I said earlier when I agreed with Kunou. She is an attractive woman." Issei said. "If she had been indecent this photo wouldn't be here and Kenshin probably would have walked away, probably embarrassed or amazed, who knows."
"So this is Marina Shisui then. The woman who ultimately took the memories away." Rias said.
"Yes." Hikari said.
"Hikari-San, can you just confirm one thing for me?" Issei asked.
"What is it?" Hikari asked.
"Were this Marina and Kenshin, I mean did they like, love each other?" Issei asked.
"They never did anything with each other that a man and woman would do, well other than kiss and hug, but to put it in the context of 'did Reina have a loving and happy family without that bastard Alferious in the picture?' To that I can say Yes." Hikari said. "Kenshin never really got the chance to explain it to Ryuushin or I how he came to develop his feelings for her, he said he'd explain himself after he felt the job was finished, but..."
"But now they're both gone, and the only thing preventing Kenshin from remembering them, the pain of losing them both has been acting up." Rias said.
"How do we approach this? If I found out because of pure happenstance. Who else can?" Sona said.
"That's just it." Yukari said. "We don't know."
"Yukari." Hikari said. "How long would you need to break that seal?"
On her end. Yukari stared at her phone screen for a moment in bewilderment before looking over at Miyuki who was sitting on her bed. Miyuki asked the question in her place. "Why are you asking Mom? You said to exercise caution here, now you asking this?"
"I'll explain after Issei's ceremony, but how long?" Hikari asked.
"Well, if I wanted to subject him to all the memories coming back at once, I could break it in seconds." Yukari said. "But-"
"No, we don't want to do that, and even if I wanted it, to rip the bandaid off, you'd probably tell me to fling myself into a vat of acid." Hikari said. "So, a stable timeline?"
"..." Yukari went silent on her end. "First off Mom. I'd tell you in no uncertain terms. Fuck. No. I don't know why you went that dark, but seeing as you know about them and the seal. You and I would have to see him every day for about a month or so, but nothing gets done without his consent. The seal could activate and make him hostile if we consider the final order. The fact that it was an explicit order makes me think it might be voice activated, and you said he took it OFF her, so he probably overloaded it, claimed it as his own before putting it on himself, using her mana to overload his. Kind of a weird preference for reworking the seal, but eh. We all have our own quirks when it comes to sealcraft."
"OK." Hikari said. "Everyone, I will explain everything when we get Kenshin's permission, but I will leave you with this bit of information. This has something to do with Yama trying to turn Kenshin into one of his next victims."
"That bastard." Rias said scowling on her end.
"I see, I think I might have an idea on why you're asking now." Yukari said.
"Well hopefully we get this taken care of before it becomes a bigger problem for him." Sona said.
"Yeah." Negi said.
"For sure." Miyuki said.
"Before we end things off. Chi-er...Rias. Be ready for Kenshin to ask you for a trade at the ceremony." Issei said.
"Eh? For who?" Rias asked.
"I think he's gonna trade Granberia-San to Vali, take his newly gotten vacant Knight piece and flip it to you for Xenovia." Issei said. "He's already agreed to trade with me, my pawns for Kazumi, Chachamaru and Erubetie. I mean I know it's your policy to not trade, but it would be Kenshin asking."
"True. I can imagine how she'll answer, but I'll make sure to ask if that's what she wants." Rias said. "Thanks for the heads up Issei."
"Sheesh." Yukari said. "Well that was a nice way to take the tension off, thanks for that Issei."
"Yeah Yeah." Issei said, before posting a thumbs up sticker as everyone went their separate ways.
(break)
The Next day.
Issei stood in front of Rias, rehearsing the ceremony for the final time in another room. With them was Kenshin who finally cut in after the tenth time. "You two, I don't really think there's anything more to be gained from this." He stated. "Issei, they've been searing this rite of passage into your head since we found about your promotion. You've even asked me if I went through it, which I did after the first trip to Mundus Magicus."
"Honestly...I think he's right. If we keep this up you might end up muttering this in your sleep." Rias admitted.
"Ugh, I'm still a frayed ball of nerves about it though." Issei said rubbing his head.
"To be expected, you don't wanna go out there and sputter and stammer like an idiot." Kenshin shrugged. "Let me ask you something. In the events for the Oppai Dragon show, do you feel all jittery like this?"
"Well I did at first." Issei said.
"Kenshin that's a little simplistic." Rias said.
"Let me finish." Kenshin said. "What about the open house for Auros Academy?"
"Well...No. I just went out there and spoke." Issei said.
"OK, so do that here." Kenshin said. "Just calm down, deep slow exhale, inhale through your nose."
"..." Issei did as Kenshin instructed. "Whew..." Issei said. "Thanks Kenshin, that helped."
"Good, cause if it didn't I was gonna give you the ol' Food Wars calm down technique." Kenshin said with a grin, clapping his hands together for effect.
"Changing subjects..." Rias said with a slightly exasperated smile at her fiancee's antics. "Kenshin where did you get that outfit? I've seen you wearing it, but never got around to asking."
"Ehhh..." Kenshin glanced away with a nervous expression. "Well...it was a late Christmas gift from Sirzechs.
"Man he hooked you up." Issei said. "You look good."
Rias glanced away. Kenshin noticed this and sighed to himself. However Rias heard him do so. "It's not that Kenshin. I'm...just worried about Onee-Sama."
"Yeah." Kenshin said. "She and I have shot the breeze over the little stuff since that day, but nothing really major other than when I extended the invitation for her to talk to me. Though I have been visiting Millicas lately, but she'll reach out when she's ready."
"I hope so." Rias said with a sigh.
"Rias-Sama, Issei-Sama, Kenshin-Sama. It is time." An entering attendant informed.
"Welp, let's get to it you two." Kenshin said. Rias and Issei nodded.
The three left the Gremory Estate with the members of the Occult Research Club, Kenshin's peerage and Issei's parents Gorou and Miki. Once they made it to station they were immediately bombarded with questions from civilians and news reporters ranging from how they were feeling, to their participation status in the Rating Game Tournament. Questions were fielded by Kazumi and Ravel but Issei, Rias and Kenshin all ignored them and were able to enter the train without much issue.
"Is this what it's like all the time Kenshin? I mean Rias has her family to protect her from these houndings..but man is this exhausting." Issei said slumped in his seat.
"The press? Kinda." Kenshin shrugged. "Every time they get wind of me causing a stir in the council chambers it's like that, I just don't talk about it and blow 'em off."
"How do you manage it?" This question was actually asked by Erubetie. "Having all that done in such a short amount of time...was unnerving."
"We have a way of getting in and out of places quickly." Yukari said.
"Ahem." Kenshin cleared his throat. "Kazumi, Chachamaru, Erubetie could you come over here?"
The three shared a look before coming over to where Kenshin and Issei were. "What's up Kenshin?" Kazumi asked.
"Is everything alright?" Chachamaru asked.
"Yeah." Kenshin said with a smile. "But uhm...shit how to broach this subject now that it's about to happen...screw it." He took a breath. "When Issei gets his Evil Piece set. He wants to trade me his pawn pieces for the three of you."
"Oh really?" Kazumi said with a sly smile directed at Issei.
"Issei-San?" Chachamaru asked.
"Is this true?" Erubetie asked.
"Y-Yeah...way to put me on the spot Kenshin." Issei said with a half hearted glare. Kenshin flipped him the bird in response, but the two laughed it off. "Anyway. I guess what Kenshin wants to talk about is. What are your thoughts?"
"If you're comfortable in my peerage I'll squash the deal now, but if you want to then I can make it happen. I know the feelings you three have for him, but at the end of the day I don't want there to be any pressure." Kenshin said.
"And if you're concerned about leaving him high and dry. Don't be. We'll still be cooperative with Kenshin and his peerage." Issei said.
"Well, it's not me that you should be asking." Chachamaru said.
"A fair point." Kenshin said. "Evangeline, could you come here?"
Evangeline got up and approached with a bored look. "What?"
"Issei wants me to trade Chachamaru to him. Thoughts?" Kenshin asked.
"..." Evangeline looked over at Issei, who seemed to fidget under her gaze. "Relax. Besides, didn't you and Kenshin both outpace me in power awhile ago?"
"W-Well...you're still someone I feel I should respect as a sort of Sensei like person." Issei said.
"Hahahaha. You amuse me sometimes you know that? Well thanks for making me feel my age." Evangeline laughed before turning to Chachamaru. "Remember what I told you when you wanted to make the pactio with Negi? That you are your own person and hell you've proven you have a soul twice over now, gaining the pactio with Negi, the artifact of which was turned into a Sacred Gear when Kenshin reincarnated you. It's your decision, besides, just because we're working under different Kings doesn't mean we aren't still what we have always been."
"Master. Thank you." Chachamaru said. "Kenshin, if it's alright with you, I would like to accept Issei's invitation."
"Done." Kenshin said.
"You're sure you'll be OK without us?" Kazumi asked.
"Kazumi, I'll be fine, if you want to be in his peerage. I'm giving you the green light." Kenshin said.
"Well, then...sure." Kazumi said, turning to Issei with a grin.
Erubetie turned to Issei. "My loyalty isn't only to Kenshin, but to the current Queen of Demons, Alice. While yes I do feel for you...would working alongside you instead of Kenshin compromise that?"
"Not at all." Issei said with a smile. "You were a youkai first."
"Then..." Erubetie smiled gratefully. "I accept."
"Done deal then." Kenshin said. "Thank you for your confirmations...after all you three are not only my friends, but are more or less my extended family. I wasn't going to just haphazardly decide your futures without your input and...whoa? !" Kenshin was pulled to a standing base by Erubetie yanking him upward with a slime tendril. He was then embraced by all three of them.
"Thanks Kenshin, that means a lot." Kazumi said.
"We deeply appreciate your consideration." Chachamaru said.
"Thank you." Erubetie said.
Issei chuckled as the three let him go and Kenshin sat back down. "That was a nice moment they had with you, they really appreciate you."
"Like I've always said. I've always tried to be the best me I can be." Kenshin said with a smile. "Oh?" He looked over seeing Rias approaching with Xenovia.
"Yeah, I might have told Rias." Issei said.
"You mean definitely...you definitely told her." Kenshin deadpanned with a smile. "Well then, might as well call her over here. Granberia, could you come here?"
"?" Granberia tilted her head curiously before walking up to them. "What is it?"
"I want to let you know that I want to ask Vali if he wants to trade a Knight piece for you. Would that be OK with you?" Kenshin asked.
"H-Hah?" Granberia said with an uncharacteristic squeak.
"I said what I said." Kenshin said. "Would you want to do that?"
"I-I mean...I-I wouldn't be adverse to it." Granberia said.
"That means yes." Issei chided only for Granberia to glare at him.
"Quiet you." Granberia said before turning to Kenshin. "...Have I lost my worth to you as a warrior?"
"Not at all." Kenshin shook his head. "This is purely based off what I feel you would want. If you want to remain under my service, then by all means speak now and we'll forget this conversation happened."
"...Hrm..." Granberia rubbed her chin in thought. "Well he knows about my loyalty to Alice...so...if you say there's no pressure nor slight to my worth as a warrior to you..." Granberia looked over at Rias and Xenovia. "Wait...you're not going to be hanging on to the Knight Piece you get from him for long are you?"
"Quick on the uptake." Kenshin said. "I'm sure your replacement won't mind a spar...hell you've sparred before."
"Well, if he's OK with it, I don't see any problems." Granberia said as she walked away.
Kenshin then turned to Rias and Xenovia. "Well as you can gather and seeing as Issei blabbed." Kenshin said. "I know you don't like to trade but..."
"That's up to her, if she wants to be your Knight. I won't stand in the way." Rias said.
"Well." Kenshin turned to Xenovia as he stood up. "I know I was just spitballin' when I suggested it before, but if Vali accepts my trade for his knight piece, would you want that?"
"..." A broad smile spread across Xenovia's face as she moved in and hugged Kenshin. "Yes, Honey..." She said
"Well then." Kenshin said with a smile, returning the embrace.
Rias let out a halfhearted sigh of exasperation before smiling. "Well Xenovia when Kenshin makes his move I'll respond accordingly."
"Thank you." Xenovia said turning back to Rias, before embracing her as well.
The three of them sat back down and Ravel came over as the train neared a large domed stadium. "Whoa, that thing's bigger than the Tokyo Dome." Issei said.
"Jeez." Kenshin said.
"That's going to be one of the venues for the World Tournament." Ravel said. "Also Kenshin-Sama, have you filled out your paperwork for the tournament yet? Ajuka-Sama's asking."
"I will after Issei's ceremony. I've got some trades to make." Kenshin said.
Ravel blinked. "You're trading? I thought you were against trad-"
"It's with Issei, Rias and Vali." Kenshin said.
"Aaah." Ravel nodded.
"Aren't most of the venues being provided from the Underworld? Both the Devils and the Fallen Angels?" Issei said
"Most of the other mythologies are still worn from the Trihexa attacks." Rias said. "That's why the Underworld which received the least amount of damage offered the most stadiums." Rias explained.
"Rating Games originated from the Underworld, hence the reason why it was decided that the majority of the matches for the first World Tournament will be held here." Everyone looked over seeing Zeoticus and Venerana coming up to them. Zeoticus having been the one to speak.
"Even so, most of the organizing committee of the game in our world isn't taking part. I heard the will be organizing everything with Ajuka-Dono." Venerana said.
"Well that's no surprise seeing as a bunch of the top ten of the Rating Game got caught cheating." Kenshin said.
Zeoticus nods to Kenshin's statement. "That's part of it for sure, but there's also one more reason. It appears that each force has shown interest in the Rating Game as a source of entertainment and also there's the fact that the staff members from each faction would be taught the procedure of the Rating Game. Once it attains worldwide relevance, so much that it becomes possible to transfer and exchange pieces between the team of all forces, then the game will get heated up even more."
"So it means the Rating Game won't be just for Devils in the future." Issei said.
"Yes...Diehauseer Belial would have been thrilled to know of this." Rias said.
"..." It suddenly became quiet after Rias said this. Diehauser had commented a crime while carrying complicated thoughts. This even hit Kenshin close to the chest as Alice was abducted and taken to Agreas because of him. However that didn't change the fact that he craved for someone who would defeat him. He might have found that now that the Rating Game was going worldwide...however he's currently in jail right as it's about to start.
"..." Kenshin narrowed his eyes in thought. "I was healing when it was decided he'd be locked up...it's a damn shame...I really want a round two with him without all the complicated thoughts and feelings...I guess for now I'll just have to wait."
The air took a minute to lighten. Issei turned to where Gorou and Miki were sitting. "Mom, Dad are you OK? You look a little nervous."
"Y-Yeah, we're fine...!" Gorou said with a trembling voice.
"We're totally not nervous for coming to a place we've never been to before or because we're excited about attending the even which will be your shining moment!" Miki said.
"Hey you two it's fine to feel this way, you feel like you don't want to embarrass yourselves or Issei on your first visit. It's completely normal." Raynare said patting them both on the back with a smile.
"Please, do not be nervous. The only thing we'll ask you to do is sit on the seats as his relatives in the ceremonial hall." Zeoticus said with a smile.
"Indeed." Venerana said, smiling as well. "All you need to do is watch over your son with warm eyes. The only ones who will be called to the stage are Issei-San and Rias as the star of tonight's ritual and his King respectively."
"Jeez, now you're making me nervous." Issei said.
(break) (A/N: The ceremony is the same as canon)
A couple of days later.
Lucifer's Prison.
In the prison sat two solitary figures. Forbesii and a new face. The Emperor of the Rating Game,Diehauser Belial.
"Where did that Euclid get off to?" Diehauser asked. "I had heard he was here, but when I arrived, I only find you."
"I politely asked if they could move him. He was getting on my damn nerves." Fobresii said reading a book. "Do you still want this book after I'm done with it?"
"Yes, I've finished reading the one I got." Diehauser said. "I was curious however..."
"Oh?" Forbesii said.
"Who is that maid that's been coming to see you these past few days? It certainly wasn't Grayfia Lucifuge." Diehauser said.
"Hmn..." Forbesii stroked his chin in thought, putting down his book. "I guess there's no harm in telling you of all people. Her name is Sage. She's actually been visiting me quite often since I got here."
Diehauser watched as Forbesii lost himself in thought for a moment as a fond smile appeared on the former Demon King's face. "Do you feel for this woman?" He asked.
"Do I feel for her?" Forbesii asked, being shaken from his thoughts.
"If you weren't locked up in here, what would you be doing?" Diehauser said.
Forbesii side eyed Diehauser for a bit before closing his eyes. "Mr Champion. I know what you're trying to do, but I'm not going to let myself be overtaken by feelings. I don't deserve the love of another after what I've done."
"Yes, I'm gonna pretend I didn't just see you lose yourself in a fond little fantasy." Diehauser said.
"You-!" Forbesii said with a wide eyed glare only to stop himself and sigh. "Whatever...so you're telling me that Kuroshi Kenshin has seen not one, but TWO power ups since his fight with me?"
"Massive power ups." Diehauser said. "Not just him. His whole immediately family, but Kenshin's a cut above."
"High praise coming from the man who walked away from a fight with him unscathed." Forbesii said.
"His mind was unfocused. Under threat by the Shinigami, the very same you want dead. I kidnapped the Queen of Demons, who is having his children." Diehauser said. "If not for that, and his attention was focused squarely on me. I think I'd be much worse for wear."
"..." Forbesii turned his head to him, clearly caught off guard. "You say what now?"
"You didn't know? I guess it's not surprising. The Queen of Demons who rebelled against you is having twins and Kenshin's the father." Diehauser said.
In a rare slip of character for him Forbesii put a hand to his head. "How fucking long have I been in here? !"
"Less than ten months." Diehauser said knowing the former Demon King was trying to piece together the timelines from when the Youkai Revolution ended to now.
"Did they fuck the day they beat me? !" Forbesii said.
"...Pff..." Diehauser couldn't help chuckling.
"Haa...well that was surprising...to say the least." Forbesii said, calming down before smiling. "So, Kenshin's far stronger...and Alice has moved on and is due to bring children into the world. That's...that's good. With this...I should fade into obscurity as I deserve."
Diehauser stared at Forbesii. "I have heard of your story but that shouldn't be your fate."
"But it IS the fate I deserve...and I bear it gladly." Forbesii said.
"Would your former King have wanted that for you?" Diehauser said. "Because all I can see right now...is a man that is letting nihility and loneliness consume him."
"..." Forbesii looked over at him. "Then tell me, for the things I've done...where do I even start to even ask...for forgiveness?"
"...That's not something I can answer. I'm currently serving my own sentence. I was merely giving my own personal thoughts on the matter." Diehauser said.
"I understand, I appreciate your sympathy, but it is not needed." Forbesii said before both of their eyes widened feeling a powerful presence.
"What if I could offer you a chance at redemption then?"
The two turned their heads seeing a trio of cloaked figures walking up to their cells. "That voice..." Diehauser said. "Kuroshi Ragnarok?"
"? !" Forbesii looked up at the tallest of the figures. "The Founding King of Demons? I thought you were dead. At the height of my power I went to your grave to try and pull samples off your remains to try and replicate for my Homunculus Project only to be repelled, even with the Tsurugi no Kami."
Ragnarok took down his hood. "Yes, it was designed to keep my brother and Ilias away. I doubt you with the sword of an unyielding Primordial of Being could do anything about it."
"..." Forbesii got to his feet. "What do you want with this damned soulless fool then."
Ragnarok closed his eyes and smiled. "Sixteenth King of Demons. I've seen soulless people before and trust me when I say this. You are NOT one of them."
"I was literally born in a lab. Not by a god, by man." Forbesii said.
"And thus you understand the minds and hearts of man better than most." Ragnarok said.
"..." Forbesii looked down at the floor. "We're getting past the point. What is it that you want?"
"Simply put, I'm here to spring you." Ragnarok said before turning his head. "Sorry however Belial. I can't do the same for you."
"Don't want it anyway." Diehauser shrugged.
"I refuse." Forbesii said.
"I wasn't asking." Ragnarok said turning his head. A fourth figure walked forward. A woman in a maid outfit, black in color with a white apron and a section of white at the chest. Her figure was slender and she had a thin blue stripped ribbon at her neck and her hair was short in length and black. Her eyes looked over at Forbesii.
"!" Forbesii couldn't help the gasp that escaped his lips. "S-Sage?" His teeth clenched, before glaring at Ragnarok. "What did you do to her?"
"My hands are clean in this." Ragnarok said.
"Forbesii...please." Sage said with a forlorn gaze. "Hear him out. I'm here of my own free will...after he explained what he wanted."
"..." Forbesii looked over at Sage silently before sighing and turning his eyes back to Ragnarok. "What is it?"
"Simply put. I need you to take these two to Kenshin in the near future." Ragnarok said nodding to the other two cloaked figures. They took down their hoods revealing Marina and Reina.
"!" Forbesii stared with wide eyes. "You...I know you...or rather OF you."
"That will make things quicker." Ragnarok said.
"Wait you're telling me..or implying it rather. That the Shinigami brought these two back to life? To screw with him?" Forbesii said, before letting out a scoff. "If I didn't already want the bastard dead. I do now, I might have plotted on Kenshin's life, but there are certain lines you just don't cross. I didn't even know Alipheese XV had a child until long after I had put her down and the poison that eventually took Ryuushin out. Yeah that was originally meant for Kenshin at the time."
"Trust me. I understand where you're coming from." Ragnarok said.
"But why do you want me to take them to Kenshin?" Forbesii asked. "The first thing they're gonna do when they see me is swing first ask question probably never."
"I have someone over there that will be able to cover for you, even if she is against you being the person to bring them. She realizes that it's likely been long enough since Kenshin's been without the memories of these two." Ragnarok said.
"..." Forbesii stared at him. "...That night...was possibly the second worst night of Kenshin's life...and at the time of it's happening. It WAS the worst, I still don't know what he did to that devil that caused it, it was distorted."
"Time Goddess Taimu and I don't either, we only know the ends but not the means and Alferious is incredibly tightlipped about it.. For the sake of present company I won't mention what we know." Ragnarok said. "I wanted to ask my contact, but she was already not in the mood for my presence after learning of Yama's actions."
"I will say this. I know hatred very well. You could propose that Kenshin's hatred of Ialda Baoth was inherited from his father, family, surrogate family as well as his friends and his duty, but the hatred he held for Alferious Mammon...that was purely homegrown." Forbesii said.
"Are you suggesting he hated Alferious more than Ialda?" Ragnarok said.
"In the long run? Absolutely not. For that one night? For certain." Forbesii said. "After all...nothing generates hatred like a heart in pain and despair."
"..." Marina looked away.
"Fine. I'll do it on one condition." Forbesii said. "I assume you're on a job for Yama looking for Kenshin's former opponents to recruit, so you're coming to me to get these two away from him...to back door him, very well...then she has to come with me." Forbesii said pointing at Sage.
"F-Forbesii-kun? !" Sage said with a surprised look.
"She comes with me or I don't go." Forbesii said. "Sometimes Miss Shisui here is going to need to step away and leave her child with someone, but I don't know how to care for children."
"! !" Sage's face lit up like a cherry. "I-I d-don't know either, b-baka!"
"But you likely have some manner of maternal instincts. I'm not sure if I even have paternal instincts." Forbesii said.
"Hrm...that isn't up to me." Ragnarok said. "I'm not the coercing type."
"W-Wait, if she disagrees then what are we doing here? !" Marina said. "His answer is clear!"
"M-Mama...a-are we going to have to go back to being around Father?" Reina asked, visibly shaking as Marina crouched down and embraced her. "I-I don't wanna go...please..don't make me go back...I wanna see Papa.
"..." Sage looked down at Reina, seeing how scared she was. "..." The maid's face visibly changed expression as she processed this
"Sage-San...I-I know it's a big ask but please..." Marina said looking up at her. "Her birth father is Alferious. The person we're trying to get away from. She calls Kenshin her Papa."
Sage closed her eyes and sighed. "...A-Alright. I'll do it."
"Thank you." Marina said, relief washing over her.
"Alright. That means I'll do it." Forbesii said. "Still this place has to have copious security measures."
"That's what these cloaks are for. Speaking of which." Ragnarok pushes a fourth one through the cell bars. "Put this on."
"..." Forbesii did as asked as Sage unlocked the door. "And the cameras?"
"I wasn't the best hacker in the Mundus Magicus Underworld for nothing you know. By the time someone comes to check the footage, I'll have already edited it and we'll already be gone." Marina said.
"Security has been lax lately." Diehauser commented from behind as Forbesii exited his cell. "Before you go. Maou Forbesii." He said making the former Demon King turn to him. "When the chance for your redemption comes. Reach forward and grab hold of it with everything. We only get one chance."
"...But how will I know?" Forbesii asked.
"Trust me, you'll know." Diehauser affirmed. "Now go. There probably is not much time left before they realize something is up."
"Right, let's go." Ragnarok said as the group of five left in quick order as Diehauser leaned back in his bunk in his cell.
He smiled. "I wish you well in finding your future Forbesii."
The group of five were well into the forest a distance away from the capitol about twenty minutes later. Forbesii put Marina down, having taken her onto his back when the hacker had started to fall behind, while Sage carried Reina.
"Whee...! You were fast Sagey Sage!" Reina said with a wide smile.
"Hmhm! My work keeps me fit as a fiddle...I just hope Grayfia-Sama doesn't find out..." Sage said with a smile albeit a nervous one.
"Th-Thanks." Marina said to Forbesii.
"Of course." Forbesii said. "I'm surprised you were able to keep up for as long as you did."
"I was training her when Yama sprung this on us." Ragnarok said.
"Receiving training from the First Demon King himself...Marina-San you don't know how many youkai would kill to be in your shoes." Forbesii said.
"Hmn, I guess..." Marina said. "All he's really been teaching me is how to control my mana."
"..." Forbesii looked over at her. "Your mana does feel very...peculiar."
"Also...if I may..." Marina said. "I just want to say one thing."
"What is it?" Forbesii asked, tilting his head as they all took their hoods down.
"I said this to Kenshin once as well...when he was coming to grips with what was his best friend's death..and nearly losing his sisters. He didn't know what to do, or where he should go, but I told him and I'll amend what I said for you specifically. 'Everyone gets lost from time to time. We hesitate and doubt ourselves. That's just a fact of life that we have to live with, but eventually we all gather the courage to make bold decisions that we take the step to get to where we truly belong. Your King left you with that nudge to take the step forward, hoping you'd share it with others. The ability to choose how we live...is truly the essence of life.'" Marina paused to take a breath. "I don't know your story so I can't say too much more, but we heard you earlier. I can't help feeling..he's still watching over you to this day. Hoping you find your place in the world. Your true place." Marina said walking by him. "Just, please think about what I've said." She said patting him on the shoulder.
Forbesii was left standing there, eyes narrowed in deep thought. "But that still doesn't answer my question..."
He looked up at the dark Underworld night sky. "What form...will my redemption take?"
"Alright Marina, come with me." Ragnarok said before sighing. "Yama's calling. We're due to move soon."
"Haa..on my way..." Marina sighed before walking up to Reina. "Rei Rei, Mama's gotta go. You behave for Miss Sage and Mr Forbesii OK? I'll be back as soon as I can."
"Then can we go see Papa?" Reina asked.
"I promise we'll see him soon." Marina said with a smile patting Reina's head as she stood up and walked toward Ragnarok and warping away with him.
