Kanto Gets Loud
Chapter 34: The Undefeated Trainer (Part 1)
A few days later,
Having parted ways with Joy and Jenny in the town that was plagued by the Squirtle Squad, Lincoln and friends backtracked all the way back through Cerulean City, and were heading south to Vermillion City through Route 5. Along the way, Lincoln was plagued by boredom, as they walked through the route, "Trees, trees, and more trees. There's hardly anything on this route," he observed.
"That's something you're going to have to get used to, Lincoln. Excitement isn't going to be EVERYWHERE we go," Misty replied, giving the young trainer a glance, "Besides, there's nothing wrong with quiet moments like this."
"Misty's right, you know. There's no telling when we'll run into something like Team Rocket again, so it's best to take in as much quiet time as we can," Brock advised.
"Well, when you put it that way, I guess some peace and quiet is a good thing," Lincoln replied, still looking quite bored. While he did enjoy the peace and quiet, he was still eager to see what kind of people and Pokemon he and his friends would meet between now and Vermillion City, 'How ironic. I would've killed to have moments like this back home. Can't believe I'm actually bored with quiet,' he thought to himself, looking around for anything that could stave off his boredom. His prayers were soon answered upon seeing some kind of billboard sign off to the side of the road.
"What's this?" Misty wondered, as they went to investigate the sign.
Think you have what it takes to break the streak?
Come to A.J's Gym on Route 5 to find out!
Note: This Gym is NOT sanctioned by the Pokemon League Association
"Looks like some sort of battle challenge advertisement. And by the looks of that streak, this AJ guy must be good," Brock commented, noting that the "Win" Counter was at 98, while the Lose Counter was at 0.
"But it says that it's not an official Pokemon Gym. Does that mean it's even legit?" Lincoln asked.
"Oh sure. There are Gyms like this all over Kanto, especially in towns that don't have Battle Clubs. Trainers often come to these gyms to train up against the owners of those gyms," Brock replied.
"They're usually run by trainers who weren't able to pass the official Pokemon League Gym Leader Qualification exams," Misty added.
"Wait, there's an actual exam for that?" Lincoln asked.
"Yep. All trainers wanting to be Gym Leaders have to use rental Pokemon of our specialized type in battles against one of the Elite Four to show that we're capable of running a gym of our own. I had to face Bruno when I took the exam," Brock explained.
"For me, I had to face Lorelei. She's kind of the main reason I wanted to be a Pokemon Trainer in the first place," Misty added.
"As I recall, you were fangirling everywhere when you first met her," Brock commented, causing Misty to scowl at him,
"Shut up, Brock."
"Ok, so that answers how someone becomes a Gym Leader, but what about becoming a member of the Elite 4?" Lincoln asked curiously.
"We… don't really know. That kind of information is kind of kept hush-hush. But if I had to take a guess, it would probably take something like skill beyond that of a gym leader," Brock replied, as they continued to walk along the path, intent on checking out AJ's gym, "Still, I never heard of an unofficial Pokemon gym being out in the middle of nowhere. They're usually in small towns."
"Maybe the owner wasn't able to build his gym in any nearby towns. Though, his record is impressive, what with 98 wins and no losses," Misty guessed.
"Well, if it's on the way, we might as well check it out, right?" Lincoln asked.
"I see no harm in that," Misty replied.
"Yeah, I've kind of been curious on how an unofficial gym operates," Brock added.
"Count me in too. I've been wanting to see how my training at Cerulean Cape had paid off," Pikachu replied.
"Well, looks like we're all in agreement," Lincoln said, as the continued walking along the path, until…
"HI-YAH!" someone leapt from the bushes. Pikachu reacted quickly to the oncoming threat, and unleashed Iron Tail, smacking the assailant away with a loud, metallic 'CLANG' sound. A few seconds passed before the assailant landed on his feet, but dropped his weapon, reeling from the pain of the Iron Tail, "Ok, note to self: Never try to take on a Pokemon's Iron Tail attack," Lincoln and Misty then recognized the person in question.
"Samurai? Is that you?" Lincoln asked. The armor-clad boy looked at the two familiar faces.
"Oh, it's you two! My sincerest apologies for that surprise attack. It's been quite some time since I last crossed paths with you. Though, I do not see Raigo with you," Samurai observed, noticing the only third member of the group was Brock.
"Raigo went off on his own after we got over Mount Moon. This is Brock by the way," Lincoln said, introducing Brock.
"Pleased to meet you," Brock said.
"Likewise," Samurai greeted back, "So, how have your travels been?"
"Eh, a few bumps here and there, but otherwise going pretty smoothly. Just the other day, I was able earn my second Gym Badge from Cerulean City," Lincoln replied.
"Impressive. After leaving the Viridian Forest, I was able to earn my first badge at the Pewter Gym," Samurai said, showing them his Boulder Badge.
"Nice. But why are you skipping the Cerulean Gym?" Misty asked.
"I had attempted to challenge the Cerulean Gym, but the leaders there said that they weren't accepting challengers due to some kind of 'retraining'?" Samurai replied.
"Well, at least Mom's whipping those three back into shape," Misty commented.
"So, how've you been doing Pokemon wise?" Lincoln asked.
"Quite well, as a matter of fact. I had heard of a process called 'Wonder Trading', and I exchanged some of the extra Bug Type Pokemon I caught in exchange for those from other regions," Samurai replied.
"Hey, how about that? We're doing Wonder Trading too! We managed to get some foreign Pokemon as well," Lincoln said.
"Hmm, how excellent. If I may ask, how many times have you each of you Wonder Traded?" Samurai asked.
"I've traded six times, so far," Lincoln replied.
"I traded three times," Misty added.
"I did it twice," Brock added.
"What about you?" Lincoln asked.
"I have managed to acquire three new Bug Pokemon from Wonder Trading," Samurai replied.
"Nice. By the way, do you anything about the unofficial Pokemon Gym that sign over there is advertising?" Lincoln asked, pointing to the sign.
"I might know something about the AJ character you're referring to, and I am willing to divulge some information regarding him, in exchange for something on your part."
"Like what? I don't have much on me that I can spare at the moment," Lincoln asked.
"You needn't worry about that. I wish for nothing as material as money or the like. Instead, how about we finish what we started back in Viridian Forest?" Samurai clarified.
"Ah, I get where you're going with this. We couldn't finish our battle last time since Team Rocket butted in," Lincoln replied.
"Indeed. And I see no sign of them, so now would be the opportune time for battle," Samurai replied.
"Sounds like a plan," Lincoln replied.
"And to sweeten the deal, I'll tell you what you want to know about AJ," Samurai added.
"If we agree to use the same rules as we did back in the forest, then I'd say that's a deal!" Lincoln accepted.
"I'll act as referee. What were the rules used in your battle?" Brock asked.
"We each use two Pokemon. No substitutions until we score a knockout. Two wins are required for victory," Samurai explained.
"Very well. If both trainers understand the rules, then we shall begin the battle," Brock said.
"Here's my first Pokemon!" Samurai said, tossing his Pokeball, which released what appeared to be a purple scorpion like Pokemon with pincers on its tail, "Meet Skorupi, one of the Pokemon I received from a Wonder Trade."
"Skorupi, huh?" Lincoln then pulled out his Pokedex, and pointed it at the new Pokemon.
"Skorupi, the Scorpion Pokemon, a Poison and Bug Type. It grips opponents with it's claws and injects poison. It then tenaciously hangs on until poison seeps in," Dexter explained.
"A Poison Type… in that case, Kirlia, you're up!" Lincoln said, sending out Kirlia, who happily twirled around.
"Lincoln! I'm so happy to see you again!" Kirlia happily said, blushing at the sight of her trainer.
"I'm glad to see you too. Anyhow, you feel up to a battle?" Lincoln asked.
"For you, anything!" Kirlia replied confidently, facing Skorupi.
"Given that your Pokemon sparkled upon materializing, am I to assume that it's a Shiny Pokemon?" Samurai asked.
"That's right. In fact, Kirlia here is one of the first Pokemon I got from a Wonder Trade," Lincoln replied.
"I see. Glad to know that our first bout shall be between two Wonder Traded Pokemon," Samurai commented.
"Alright, the first battle will be Skorupi versus Kirlia; BEGIN!" Brock announced.
"Skorupi, use Hone Claws!" Samurai instructed. Skorupi began to slash its claws around in an odd manner. It then glowed red.
"A red glow means Skorupi must've powered up. Since Fairy Type Pokemon are weak against Poison Type attacks, we need to make sure none of Skorupi's Poison Type moves make contact. Kirlia, use Double Team!" Lincoln instructed. Afterimages of Kirlia then began appearing all over the battle field.
"A clever strategy, but one that may prove fruitless. Skorupi, use Poison Sting!" Samurai instructed. Skorupi then began firing purple needles at the copies, until they finally struck Kirlia.
"Kirlia, you ok?" Lincoln asked.
"Y-Yeah. Thankfully, that attack didn't Poison me," Kirlia replied.
"Alright. But it's weird how Skorupi was able to pick out the real one from the copies," Lincoln commented.
"Information: Hone Claws: A Dark Type Status Move that increases the user's Attack power and Accuracy," Dexter explained.
"Ah, I see. So now we have to be careful to avoid any close quarters battling. Fortunately, Kirlia's great at long range battling. Use Psybeam!" Lincoln instructed. Kirlia then fired off Psybeam, which was careening towards Skorupi.
"Dodge it by using Dig!" Samurai quickly instructed. Skorupi then burrowed its way underground, just as Psybeam made contact where it once was.
"Be careful Lincoln! Dig is an attack move! There's no telling where Skorupi is going to pop up!" Misty warned.
"Kirlia, try to sense where Skorupi is, then evade!" Lincoln instructed.
"I'll try!" Kirlia replied, as she began trying to sense Skorupi, when…
"Now, Poison Fang!" Skorupi's tail erupted from the ground just below Kirlia. The claws were glowing purple, as they exploded, sending Kirlia back a few feet. Purple bubbles then rose up from Kirlia.
"Ack, not good!" Lincoln exclaimed.
"For you, anyhow. Skorupi, now use Venoshock!" Samurai instructed, as Skorupi emerged from the ground. It then fired an odd, purple liquid at Kirlia.
"Quick, use Psybeam!" Lincoln instructed. Kirlia once again fired Psybeam, which passed by the Venoshock. Both attacks made contact, and both Pokemon were down for the count.
"Both Kirlia and Skorupi are unable to battle!" Brock declared. Samurai recalled Skorupi, as Lincoln went to Kirlia's aid.
"I-I'm sorry, Lincoln," Kirlia sorrowfully said.
"Hey, don't worry about it. We'll just train some more and you can get them next time. Now get some rest," Lincoln said, recalling Kirlia, "So, what's the deal with that last attack, Samurai?"
"You refer to Venoshock, yes? It's quite the handy Poison Type Move. If the opponent is Poisoned, then the attack does more damage," Samurai explained.
"Huh, never knew attacks like those existed. Well, anyway, onto our next battle! And this one just got back from a little vacation!" Lincoln said, as he threw a Pokeball, which sent out Pidgeotto.
"Aww, yeah! Back in the spotlight!" Pidgeotto cheered.
"Ah, now there's a sight for sore eyes," Samurai commented, recognizing Pidgeotto.
"That's right. It's been a little over a week since she's been in a battle," Lincoln replied.
"I see. In that case, here a familiar face of my own!" Samurai said, tossing his second Pokeball, releasing Pinsir.
"Pinsir! Haven't seen that one in a while," Lincoln commented.
"Alright, the second battle, Pidgeotto versus Pinsir! BEGIN!" Brock declared.
"Alright Pidgeotto, lets start off with Steel Wing!" Lincoln instructed.
"Got it!" Pidgeotto replied, as her wings took on the metallic sheen of Steel Wing, and she swooped down at Pinsir.
"Just let her get a little closer, Pinsir!" Samurai said, as he and Pinsir were anticipating the right opportunity. It was when Pidgeotto was right on top of Pinsir when… "Alright, now use Vicegrip!" Pinsir then used it's horns to grab hold of Pidgeotto, trapping her in place.
"Oh no, I forgot about those horns! Hang in there, Pidgeotto! I'll try to figure something out!" Lincoln called out.
"Whatever you do, do it fast! Pinsir might…"
"Now, use Seismic Toss!" with Pidgeotto still trapped in it's horns, Pinsir leapt high into the air, and spun around, throwing Pidgeotto to the ground with a loud slamming noise.
"Pidgeotto, are you alright?" Lincoln asked.
"Yeah, takes a lot more than that to take me down," Pidgeotto replied.
"Looks like your Pinsir's gotten stronger since the last time we battled," Lincoln commented.
"Indeed. Though your Pidgeotto seems a bit sluggish," Samurai observed.
"Well, she spent last week back at my home in America, so she hasn't had much battle practice,"Lincoln pointed out.
"It ain't my fault! All because those humans in your hometown kept looking weirdly at me and the others, we couldn't get in any proper battle practice," Pidgeotto pouted.
"Now, now, we can get in some training between now and Vermillion City," Lincoln said. This seemed to cheer up Pidgeotto, if only a little bit.
"Train all you wish, but we're in the middle of a battle right now, so Pinsir, use Tackle!" Samurai instructed. Pinsir then charged horns first at Pidgeotto.
"Pidgeotto, put some distance between you and Pinsir, then use Gust!" Lincoln instructed.
"Alright then!" Pidgeotto replied, flying up and out of reach from Pinsir, and began to flap her wings. However, instead of Gust, she launched a barrage of blade like projectiles at Pinsir, which seemed to damage the Stag Beetle Pokemon quite a bit. Everyone there was very surprised, Pidgeotto included, "That wasn't Gust."
"No, it wasn't. What move could that have been?" Lincoln wondered.
"Information: Air Cutter: A Special Flying Type Move in which the user fires blade like projectiles at the opponent. Critical Hits land more easily. This move also happens to be one of Pidgeotto's Egg Moves," Dexter explained.
"That would explain how Pinsir took more damage then normal," Samurai commented, as Pinsir got back up.
"That move can come in handy in future battles," Lincoln commented.
"Hell yeah it will!" Pidgeotto proclaimed.
"But don't think we don't have a few tricks of our own. Pinsir, use Rock Tomb!" Samurai instructed. Pinsir then summoned Rock Tomb, and hurled the large rocks at Pidgeotto, who attempted to evade the attack, but was hit by one of the rocks, "We've got them now, Pinsir! Use Vicegrip!" Pinsir once again charged at Pidgeotto.
"Quick Pidgeotto, pull up and use Air Cutter!" Lincoln called out. Pidgeotto snapped out of her daze, and flew back up out of reach of Pinsir. She then fired off Air Cutter once more. This time, Pinsir wasn't able to withstand the attack, and fell to defeat.
"Pinsir is unable to battle, the winner is Pidgeotto, therefore, the battle goes to Lincoln!" Brock declared. Samurai recalled Pinsir, as Pidgeotto swooped back down to Lincoln.
"Nicely done, Pidgeotto," Lincoln praised.
"Naturally! Though, I am going to be real here, I wasn't expecting to pick up one of my Egg Moves like that," Pidgeotto replied.
"I don't think any of us were," Lincoln replied, as he was approached by Samurai.
"A battle well fought, Lincoln," Samurai said, extending his hand to the white-haired boy.
"I can say the same for you, Samurai. You've been working hard since the last time we saw you," Lincoln replied, exchanging the gesture.
"So, now that Lincoln won, what can you tell us about AJ?" Misty asked.
"Ah, yes, I did agree to tell you what I know. Well, I challenged his gym here a few days ago while searching for more Bug Type Pokemon, but I was defeated handily, and by just one Pokemon too," Samurai explained.
"Just one Pokemon?" Lincoln asked in surprise.
"Indeed. And if I can be honest, I doubt that even you could defeat him at your current skill level," Samurai replied.
"Well, you never know until you try," Lincoln replied.
"I suppose, but remember, he is a very strong trainer," Samurai warned.
"The bigger they are, they harder they fall," Lincoln replied.
"Very well. I shall lead you three to his gym, but don't say I didn't warn you," Samurai replied, as he led the three friends down the path they were walking on.
Meanwhile, in Ronnie Anne's Room, nighttime,
"'And that's pretty much what we want to do. We want to experience what our friend is doing over in Japan for ourselves. You can trust us to make decisions for ourselves, as well as to take care of ourselves out there.' How'd that sound?" Ronnie Anne asked, as she was engaged in a conference call with the rest of the gang, which now included Margo, Tabby, Haiku, Giggles, and Polly Pain.
"We could still stand to rework it, but I think we have somewhat of a chance of convincing our parents to let us follow in Lincoln's footsteps," Clyde replied.
"We'll also have to make sure that we can prove how responsible we are," Rusty added.
"I think we should try to schmooze our argument to them without directly stating what it is we want to do right up front," Girl Jordan added.
"You mean like saying 'our friend is traveling in a foreign land, and we want to give it a try ourselves'?" Polly Pain asked.
"Sounds a bit crude a way of putting it. Maybe we should practice it with a little more tact," Tabby replied.
"We should meet up sometime tomorrow and go over how we're going to break the news to our families," Ronnie Anne suggested.
"How about at Gus' Games and Grub? We should be able to have some degree of privacy there," Zach suggested.
"Sounds like a plan. I'll see you guys over there," Ronnie Anne said, as she hung up, and went to crawl into bed, "Never expected those five to want in on this," she quietly mused, as she thought back to the other day, when Tabby and the others found out what was going on with Lincoln.
Flashback, a few days ago,
Just outside of Flip's Fuel and Food, Lincoln's friends, along with the Sadie Hawkins Girls and Margo, who were just passing by, were bearing witness to the proprietor of the gas station getting arrested by police, "I'm telling you; you got the wrong guy!" Flip protested, as he struggled to break free.
"Tell it to the judge. We've got enough evidence to lock you up and get this place shut down," one of the officers said, as they threw Flip into a squad car.
"Hmmph, serves that guy right for all the disgusting things he does in that store," Girl Jordan said, lacking any sympathy for Flip.
"You mean the re-dated expired milk, the sock someone found in the nacho cheese dispenser, or the fact that he hoards winning lottery tickets for himself?" Tabby asked.
"All of the above," Girl Jordan replied.
"I mean seriously, how did he NOT get arrested before now?" Liam questioned rhetorically.
"Maybe we should change the subject? I'm feeling a bit queasy just thinking about it," Stella pleaded.
"Hey, you guys are Lincoln's friends, right?" Polly asked.
"Yeah, that's right," Rusty replied.
"In that case, do you guys know where he is? I want to ask him about what Lynn's got against him," Margo asked. Lincoln's friends froze up. They weren't sure how to explain the situation to them WITHOUT them going straight to the police.
"But why not go to Lynn directly?" Giggles asked.
"Tried that already. I got turned away by her folks. Guess she got into some serious trouble," Margo guessed.
"Hmmph, serves her right for what she did," Ronnie Anne grumbled, only to realize she slipped up having spoken her thoughts out loud.
"Wait, so do you guys know what she's in trouble for?" Polly asked. Lincoln's friends sighed in defeat.
"If we tell the five of you, we want you guys to promise to keep it between us, ok?" Clyde asked. The five girls were now concerned.
"Depends; What's the deal with Lynn's family?" Margo asked, crossing her arms.
"Well, here's the thing," Ronnie Anne said, as she explained everything.
"Please tell me you're joking," Giggles asked, her tone deadly serious, as she and the others were horrified upon learning about what the Louds did to the lone son.
"I wish I was, but it's all true. Lynn blamed her loss against the Lions on Lincoln, claiming he was bad luck. Then, after he lied about it to his family, they kicked him out of the house in an attempt to save themselves from the supposed 'bad luck'," Ronnie Anne replied.
"And after another game that Lincoln never attended, she still blamed him for the loss, which prompted their grandfather to suggest sending him to an isolated country just off the coast of Japan to do some kind of zoological field work, involving amazing animals called 'Pokemon'," Clyde added.
"So, am I right in assuming that she did something really stupid after the game against the Beavers?" Margo asked.
"Yeah. When we visited the Loud House here the other day to talk with Lincoln about his adventures, Lynn thought it was a good idea to brag about how they sold his furniture and were planning a beach day without him, all because she wanted him to be miserable as punishment for being accused of ruining her game. I managed to sock her good," Ronnie Anne replied. Margo was in complete shock, as she slumped down on a bench.
"I never thought that Lynnsanity, er, I mean, Lynn, would take a loss that far," she commented, trying to wrap her head around what she had just heard.
"But what about the rest of the family?" Tabby asked.
"Since the last time we visited, Lincoln's managed to only forgive his mom, Leni, Lucy, and Lisa for what they did. As for their dad, Lori, Luna, Luan, Lynn, and the twins, I doubt any of them have even made an attempt to apologize," Rusty replied.
"Well, it's good to hear that SOME in his family have managed to apologize. But what about Lincoln himself? What are these 'Pokemon' things you mentioned?" Haiku asked.
"Well, they look similar to animals, but they have incredible powers. Lincoln's managed to catch a decent amount of them in only the few weeks he's been in Kanto," Clyde explained, pulling out a Pokeball, "In fact, I even have one of his Pokemon that he sent over on me right now. I was asked to bring this one to the pond," he said, as the ball opened up, releasing Poliwag.
"A little tadpole?" Giggles asked, looking at Poliwag.
"According to the data Lincoln sent over, this one's name is 'Poliwag', and it IS classified as the 'Tadpole Pokemon'," Clyde replied.
"It's kind of cute," Polly commented, getting a squirt of water to the face, "And mischievous too," she added, a bemused look on her face.
"From what we understand, Pokemon use their different powers to do battle with one another. In Poliwag's case, it's a Water Type," Clyde said, picking up Poliwag.
"Wait, does that mean Lincoln battles with these creatures too?" Tabby asked.
"Yeah, apparently in places like Kanto, Pokemon Battles are a popular sport. A bit controversial, sure, but it sounded like it was legal," Clyde replied. From that point onward, the group continued their question-and-answer session on the way to the pond.
End of Flashback,
"I'll have to let Lisa know about this development," Ronnie Anne commented, as she fell asleep.
Back with Lincoln and company,
"It's not too much further now," Samurai said, as he led the three trainers through a somewhat dense forest. Eventually, they arrived at what appeared to be a large circus tent surrounded by a fence made out of logs. Above the gateway, there hung a sign that said "AJ's Gym – Undefeated", with the same 98 Wins – 0 Losses counter as the sign they saw before. It even had the notice about this being an unofficial gym at the bottom, "Well, here we are. This is AJ's gym," Samurai declared.
"Pretty impressive for an unofficial gym," Misty commented, before turning to Lincoln, a sly grin on her face, "You may have your hands full with this battle, Lincoln. Especially with a record like that."
"Misty has a point. Any trainer with this kind of a record isn't going to be easy to beat," Brock added.
"Well, we'll just see how things pan out in battle. After all, I haven't lost a battle yet, and I'm not planning to loose now," Lincoln replied.
"Who are you guys? You challengers or something?" a drawling voice asked. They turned to the source to find a burly teenager with dark green hair standing before them. He was wearing a red and black colored shirt, a blue backpack, blue denim shorts, and red boots. He was staring at them, as if sizing them up. Lincoln then took note of a single Pokeball on the boy's belt, along with a curled-up whip. The boy then recognized Samurai, and smirked, "Well, fancy seeing you again, sword boy. Back for another whoopin'?"
"No. Rather, I brought someone who is very keen on battling you," Samurai replied, gesturing towards Lincoln, who stepped forward.
"Hey, you look familiar," the boy commented.
"The name's Lincoln Loud. I'm a trainer that came from America," Lincoln replied.
"Oh, that's right! You're that hotshot newbie who's been making waves in the news lately!" the boy exclaimed.
"And you must be AJ," Lincoln deduced.
"That's right, and if what sword boy here said is true, then you'll do nicely for my ninety-ninth win," AJ replied. Lincoln simply narrowed his eyes.
"Don't get too ahead of yourself. I don't intend to loose this match," Lincoln retorted.
"Well, you got guts, I'll give you that. Let's see if you can back up all that big talk," AJ said, as he opened up the gate to his gym. Inside, Lincoln and company saw a large battlefield in front of the tent on a raised platform.
"Wow, this place is pretty impressive. You must've put in a lot of work," Misty commented, impressed by the set up.
"Yep. I put in a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to make all of this a reality. It's my pride and joy, alongside my winning streak," AJ replied, taking his place opposite of Lincoln on the battlefield, "So runt, you ready to lose?"
"Heh, I should be asking you that. What are the rules?" Lincoln asked.
"You come at me with everything you've got. The battle's over when one of either side's team cannot battle any longer," AJ replied. Lincoln then remembered.
"Ok, but just one second, alright? I have a Pokemon on my team that can't battle," Lincoln said, taking off his backpack.
"Is that right? In that case, use this," AJ said, tossing a small, yellowish crystal to Lincoln.
"What's this?" Lincoln asked.
"That's a Revive. Use it on a fainted Pokemon, and it'll be restored to half it's full health," AJ replied, before letting out a whistle. In seconds, a butterfly like Pokemon flew towards them, "Butterfree, I got a batch of newbies. Take them to the gym and show them the ropes, would ya?" with that, Butterfree took the bag and flew off.
"What was in the bag?" Misty asked.
"A bunch of the wild Pokemon I caught. I want them to start training right away," AJ replied, before taking his only Pokeball off of his belt, just as Lincoln finished treating Kirlia, "Alright, you ready? Once I mop the floor with you, I'll be one more victory away from going for gym badges."
"Whenever you are," Lincoln replied, as Kirlia floated outward to the battlefield, "Though, I got to say, having almost a hundred wins with no badges is quite the accomplishment. I, on the other hand, happen to have two badges to my name."
"You just keep talking big, squirt. And now, here's the one Pokemon I need to flatten you!" AJ said, tossing his Pokeball into the air. The ball popped open, releasing a Sandshrew, much like Andrea, but it looked a little bigger.
"You have a Sandshrew too?" Lincoln asked.
"Yep. This little guy's been with me since my starting days. And he's going to make short work of you, that Kirlia, and any other Pokemon you have on you," AJ replied, unfurling his whip.
"We'll just see about that. Let's go Kirlia!" Lincoln said, as the battle began.
For the sake of clarity, all the Pokemon that Lincoln had sent to the Loud House, as well as those that are swapped out are done so off-screen, so in case you were wondering.
Furthermore, I have a poll up on my page regarding the next region Lincoln visits. Go and cast your votes there.
