And now we've come to the end of the day where our heroes get an unexpected visitor.
Enjoy!
The sun was setting over Monsters, Inc.
A bell rang as the factory winded down. The "SCARE" light was turned off, and tired scarers emerged from doors.
"Let's go, everybody. All doors must be returned. No exceptions!" called Jerry.
All doors were ejected and returned to the vault.
"Wow. Talk about a hard day's work." commented Kairi.
"I've never seen so many different types of fears before." said Violet.
"Whoo! I've never seen anything like you today! You were on a roll, my man!" said Mike.
"Another day like this, and that scare record's in the bag!" Sulley grinned, signing some papers.
"That's right, baby!"
"Uh-huh."
"Thanks for letting us help out today." Sora said.
"While we don't approve of your methods of giving power, at least we learned how your company works." said Aqua.
"No problem." Sulley replied. "And thank you for helping us out here today. You just might fit in well here at Monsters Incorporated."
"You guys may have a future here." Mike added.
The world-travelers traded glances.
"We'll… think about it." said Ven.
"In the meantime, let's get going." said Riku. "We gotta make sure no more Unversed or any other creatures of darkness are lurking around Monstropolis."
"Sounds good to us." said Mike, tossing his paperwork to his desk.
Mike and Sulley followed the other monsters out of the Scare Floor as Sora and Co. lagged behind a bit.
"Well that was quite the experience today." commented Naminé before frowning. "Though I still don't feel good scaring all those innocent kids."
"None of us did Naminé." sighed Mickey. "But their screams are this worlds' power."
"There's got to be another way for them to get power without having to scare kids shitless." said Donald.
"If there is, they'd better find it quick before they experience those darn power outages." added Goofy.
"Maybe the solution is right under our noses." suggested Huey.
"I'm also worried about the Unversed." said Webby, concerned. "Does that mean Vanitas is here?"
Sora and Co. traded glances. "Well he is the only one who can control them." said Ven. "And it has been a while since we've seen him."
"He has had plenty of time to recover since we took him down in the Castle of Dreams." said Isa.
"Wherever he is, we'll find him." said Aqua. "But in the meantime, we should do patrol tonight and then find a place to stay."
"Defnietly a good idea, I'm gonna be beat." said May, wiping her monster forehead.
Later, the group met up with Mike and Sulley in the hallway.
"You know, I am so romantic, sometimes I think I should just marry myself." Mike said.
"Give me a break, Mike." Sulley groaned.
"You ain't the only one." Dewey smirked. "I'm irresistible."
"Oh brother." Louie said, rolling his eyes.
"You are right about that…" Webby said dreamily as Lena, Violet, April, May, and June snickered.
"What a night of romance I got ahead of me. Tonight is about me, and… Celia…" mike said dreamily as as he looked at Celia tidying her desk. "Ooh, the love boat is about to set sail! *imitates boat horn* 'Cause I gotta tell you, guys, that face of hers, it just makes my heart go…" he said to the others before turning back to see Celia; only to be surprised to see Roz instead.
"YIKES!" he yelped as everyone jumped.
"Whoa, where'd she come from?" asked Max.
"Ya got me." said Isa.
"Hello, Wazowski." Roz said sternly. "Fun filled evening planned for tonight?"
"Well, as a matter of fact–" Mike began.
"And I'm sure you filed your paperwork correctly... for once!" Roz added, her eyes narrowed.'
Mike froze with a nervous grin.
"Your stunned silence is very reassuring." Roz said as she slithered away. She looked at the 29 unfamiliar monsters. "Hello new recruits… young recruits… have a safe night…" she said surprisingly politely as she left.
Sora and Co. were surprised.
"Huh. That was odd." said Daisy.
"I thought she was creepy before, but yeah that is odd." said Max.
"Oh, no, my scare reports!" groaned Mike. "I left them on my desk! If I'm not at the restaurant in five minutes, they're going to give our table away! What am I gonna tell-?!
Celia leapr in and squeezes Mike's cheek.
"Schmoopsie-Poo." Mike grinned.
"Hey, Googly Bear, wanna get going?" Celia asked.
"Uh, do I ever. It's just that…" Mike stammered. "Uh, you know it's…"
"What?"/"There's a small…"
"I don't understand."/"It's just that–"
"Ooh, paradise is about to get ruined." Lea winced.
"How's he gonna get outta this?" asked Louie.
Sulley then spoke. "It's just I forgot about some paperwork I was supposed to file. Mike was reminding me. Thanks, buddy. Whew!"
Everyone smiled at Sulley.
"I was?" Mike asked, confused. "I mean, I was! Yeah, I was."
"Oh. Okay, let's go then." Celia said as she walked off.
"We're going!" Mike said before whispering to Sulley. "On my desk, Sulley. The pink copies go to accounting, the fuchsia ones to purchasing, and the goldenrod ones go to Roz."
Celia grabbed Mike and pulled him away. Mike leaned back.
"Leave the puce!" he said before getting dragged away again.
Everyone watched them go.
"I hope they have a good time." said Minnie.
"From the way Celia said about Harryhausen's being a hard place to get a reservation at, it sounds like quite the restaurant." said Oswald.
"OK, I'm gonna get Mikey's paperwork taken care of." said Sulley.
"OK Sulley." said Riku. "I suggest the rest of us split up around Monstropolis and patrol now while it's nice and bright out."
"Good idea Riku, with all the power shortages and all of that." nodded Xion.
"Would it be ok if some of us joined you in case the Unversed or even Heartless and Nobodies return to the factory Sulley?" asked Sora.
"By all means." Sulley nodded. "I wish you all luck in your hero work."
"And to you too with the paperwork Sulley." said Isa before shuddering. "Believe me, I've been through a lot in… a previous life."
Not-so-fond memories of doing paperwork as Saïx came to mind.
With that said, the group all split up, some following Sulley while the rest walked out the front door.
The Scare Floor:
The Scare Floor was dark as Sulley, Sora, Mickey, Minnie, Huey, Lena, and May walked inside.
"Pink copies goes to accounting, the fuchsia ones go to Roz." said Sulley, trying to remember what Mike told him.
"I thought the fuchsia ones went to purchasing." said Sora, confused.
"And it's the goldenrod ones that go to Roz." added May.
"Man, I have no idea what puce is…" sighed Sulley.
"It's like a dark red color, darker than my hat." said Huey.
Sulley picked up the reddish-brown paperwork files and shuffleed through it.
"Oh, that's puce." he mused. "You were right, Huey."
Something caught Sora's attention.
"Hey Sulley, are people allowed to use the doors after closing hours?" he asked.
"No, why?" asked Sulley.
"Because there's one right here." Sora replied.
Everyone turned and were surprised to see a door there. It Was white with five flowers on it.
"Uh, hello? Anyone? There's a door here." Sulley called.
"Maybe someone's doing late work?" suggested Mickey.
"Hardly, we're only allowed to use them during work hours." Sulley said.
Lena examined the desk. "I don't see any files of any kids." she said.
"Maybe someone forgot to send one up." suggested Minnie.
"That could be true, but I could've sworn I saw all the station empty." said Mickey, confused.
They walked up to the door, Sulley placing down the paperwork. Sulley was about to eject it when he noticed that the light above the station was illuminated.
"It's active?" asked Huey.
"That might mean someone's inside." said Sora.
Cautiously, he opened the door. They peeked into the room.
"Hello? Hey. Psst. Anybody scaring in here? Hello? Yo." Sulley stage whispered.
"That's strange, no one's in here." Minnie whispered, confused.
"Or they're hiding." guessed Huey.
May carefully went into the room and peeked under the bed.
"Nope, no one under the bed." she said.
May tip-toed over to the back door and opened it, but saw no sign of any monster. She closed it and tip-toed back to the group.
"No signs of any monster in the hall either." she said.
Sulley shrugged and shut the door. Sulley stepped away from the door, examining it curiously as he tapped the light.
"Hmmm." he pondered.
"Maybe it's a glitch?" suggested Lena.
"Could be, but a glitch like this?" Sulley said. He scratched his chin. "Maybe MIFT will have to take a look at it."
"MIFT?" asked Sora.
"Monsters Inc. Facilities Team." Sulley replied.
Before anyone could ask further, there was a thump noise behind them. Everyone froze.
"What was that thump?" asked May.
They then looked down and saw little a girl picking up and dropping Sulley's tail. She was a toddler with black hair tied into short pigtails and brown eyes, wearing a pink shirt with purple leggings and white socks.
She looked up at the group.
"Lookit." she babbled.
Sulley screamed in alarm, falling over backwards.
"Aw look at you!" Minnie cooed at the little girl.
"Welp, guess we know who the door belongs to!" chuckled Mickey.
"Uh… hey kid." Lena greeted with a weak smile.
"Guess she snuck out while we weren't looking," said Sora.
The girl looked up at the monsters and giggled. She then looked up at Sulley and smiled. Sulley tried to get away, but she grabbed his tail.
"Hang on, I got her!" said Sora, picking her up.
"Sora what are you doing she's gonna kill you!" Sulley screamed.
Sora raised an eyebrow. "What? No she's not." he said.
Sora carried the girl back into her room.
"OK you, I think you should head to sleep." he said, shutting the door… only to see her standing right in front of him on the other side. "Whoa! Where'd you come from?" he said, surprised.
"I guess she doesn't like bedtime." shrugged May.
"Or she likes Sulley." mused Minnie as the girl grabbed Sulley's tail again.
Panicked, Sulley picked her up with a pair of tongs and placed her back in her room, closed the door and spun around... only to discover that she's standing before him again.
"Gosh! She's a fast one!" Mickey commented.
"Don't worry, I got her," said Minnie, picking up the girl. "I think you're up past your bedtime you little cutie pie." she teased, playfully tickling the girl.
"Minnie don't touch her!" Sulley cried. "You're gonna get poisoned!"
"Oh don't be ridiculous Slulley, I'll be fine." Minnie said dismissively as she brought the girl into her room and laid her on the bed. "There you go little one, now go to sleep." Minnie said softly.
Minnie excited the room and shut the door.
"There we go." she said. "Now we can-"
Minnie was cut off when she saw the girl right in front of her again.
"Ok, she is unbelievably fast." said Huey as Sulley ducked behind the desk.
"Someone must've put sugar in her peach pureé." said Sora.
Sulley screamed again as the girl tried to get near him, only for her to be surrounded in purple magic.
Everyone was surprised as they saw Lena, waving her hands around. She used her magic to bring the giggling girl closer to her.
"Lena what are you doing?!" Huey cried.
"Putting this girl back where she lives." Lena replied as she moved back into the bedroom. She used her magic to bring the girl onto her bed and pulled the covers over. Lena pointed two fingers to her eyes and then to the girl as if to say, "I got my eye on you" and then exited the room, closing the door.
"And that's how you deal with-" Lena smirked, only for her jaw to drop when she saw the girl on Sora's back. "Someone's gotta put a bell on this kid."
Sulley picked the girl up by her shirt and carried her deep inside the room, dropping on top of her bed as she giggled. Sulley tried to run out, but got caught in a hanging mobile. He fell, tripped over a laundry basket, slipped on a rug, and was ejected out of the room. Sulley slid out of the room, covered in toys and junk from the girl's room.
"Nice exit Sulley." May chuckled before looking serious. "You ok?"
Before Sulley could reply, from the utility hallway, they heard a group quickly ran off, a line of toy duckies caught on Sulley's tail quacking after him.
The sound was revealed to be Randall, wheeling a cart of scream cans towards the door.
Sulley rushed to the locker room and over to the toilets, stuffed the girl's junk into the bowl, and flushed it down. He sighed in relief, only for it to all come back up, overflowing the toilet.
"Aaah!" he screamed.
Sulley ran to the locker room. He spotted an open locker and stuff the sopping kid stuff in. He closed the locker.
"Whew." he sighed in relief.
At that moment, Sora, Mickey, Minnie, Huey, Lena, and May ran in, panting.
"Man, he runs fast." Huey panted.
"Are you ok, Sulley?" Mickey asked.
"I am now." Sulley said.
Sulley turned and walked away. On his back, clinging to his fur, was the girl, making everyone's eyes widen in surprise.
"Uh-" Sora began before Huey cut him off, holding up three fingers.
"Three, two, one…"
(Theme from Psycho plays)
"Aaaaaaaaaaah!" Sulley screamed as he ran back past the lockers, panic-stricken.
The girl ran after him.
"Kitty!" she babbled.
"That's cute." chuckled Sora.
"Better make sure the girl doesn't scare him to death." said Mickey.
"I thought that was happening right now." May quipped.
The group ran to find Sulley cowering on a bench, backed into a corner of the room, the girl standing in front of him waving her arms.
"No, no, stay back." Sulley said in fear.
Sulley then spotted an M.I. gym bag.
The girl put on a dard hat. "I'm Tiger!" she babbled before Sulley scooped her up, and zipped it closed.
"You could've just had us carry her Sulley." Sora said as they ran out of the room, Sulley holding the bag at arms length.
The eight ran to the door, ready to toss the girl back in. As Sulley reached to open it, the knob rattled. Quickly, they all scattered to hide.
The door opened and Randall stepped out. He looked around but saw nothing.
"Hmmm." he pondered before shaking his head.
Randall pressed the return button. As Randall walked away, the door rose, revealing Mickey, Minnie, and Sulley hidden behind it. Sora, Huey, May, and Lena were under the desk.
The girl wiggled inside the bag and made a peep.
Randall stopped and Sulley closed his eyes, thinking they were found out until... Randall sneezed and continued on.
Everyone watched the door disappear into the vault as Randall left the floor.
"Great, the door's ghone and he probably has the key." groaned May. "What are we gonna do?"
"We gotta find the others." said Sora. "Come on!"
Everyone quickly made a beeline for the exit, Sulley carrying the gym bag. Sora pulled out his Gummiphone.
"Come on come on pick up pick up!" he muttered.
"Sora? What's up? Did something happen?" came Kairi's voice.
"Meet us at Harryhausen's stat!" he said. "Tell the others.
Harryhausen's:
CHOP!
A cleavered chop through a piece of raw monster fish. A multi-tentacled monster sushi chef prepared elegant meals as waiters waltzed by with Sushi. New customers enter the restaurant, the waiters all yelled,
"いらっしゃいませ!" ("Irasshaimase!")
Translation: "Welcome!"
Mike and Celia were seated in a romantic booth, laughing.
"Oh, Michael! I've had a lot of birthday - well, not a lot of birthdays, but this is the best birthday ever." Celia said happily.
Mike gazed dreamily at Celia as she grew self-conscious.
"What are you looking at?" she asked.
"Oh, I was just thinking about the first time I laid an eye on you, how pretty you looked." Mike replied.
"Stop it!" Celia giggled, embarrassed.
"Your hair was shorter then." Mike added.
"Mm-hmm! I'm thinking about getting it cut." Celia said.
The snakes look panicked.
"No, no! I like it this length." Mike said as the snakes sighed in relief. "I like everything about you. Just the other day, someone asked me who I thought the most beautiful monster was in all of Monstropolis, and you know what I said?"
"What did you say?" Celia asked, coy.
"I said..."
But before Mike could reply, right behind Celia, Sulley pressed his face up to the window in a panic.
"Sulley?!" Mike said in surprise.
"Sulley?!" Celia exclaimed, surprised and confused.
Befuddled, Mikes looked to the window to see Sulley gone.
"No! No, no! That's not what I was going to say!" Mike stammered. "I mean, well, sure, he's handsome, if you like the big guy, he's rugged."
'Mike, you're not making sense." said Celia, confused.
"いらっしゃいませ!" called the Sushi Chefs.
Sulley appeared at the table and sat down. Nearby, Sora, Mickey, Minnie, Huey, Lena, and May waited for the rest of their friends to arrive.
"Hi, guys! What a coincidence, running into you here!" Sulley said as he awkwardly squeezed into the booth next to Mike, setting the gym bag under the table. "Uh, I'm just going to order something to go." he said, picking up the menu.
"Michael…" Celia said in annoyance.
"Sulley...!" Mike said through gritted teeth.
Sulley whipped the menu in front of his and Mike's faces.
"I wonder what's good here. Hmmm." he faux-mused.
"Get out of here! You're ruining everything!" Mike whispered angrily.
"I went back to get your paperwork and there was a door." Sulley revealed.
"What?!" Mike gasped.
Mike peeked around the menu, grinned awkwardly at Celia, then ducked back behind. Celia was starting to steam. Her snakes rattled in annoyance.
"A door?!" Mike asked.
"Randall was in it!" Sulley nodded.
"Wait a minute? Randall?" Mike said before gasping, putting it together. "That cheater! He's trying to boost his numbers."
"There's something else." Sulley said nervously.
"What?!" Mike asked.
"Ooklay in the ag-bay." Sulley said in pig-latin.
"WHAT?!" Mike exclaimed, confused.
"Look in the bag." Sulley said, pointing to the floor. Mike ducked under the table, but there was nothing there.
"What bag?" Mike asked as he looked under.
Sulley looked around frantically for the bag.
At that moment, Riku, Kairi, Donald, Goofy, Daisy, Max, Oswald, Ortensia, Terra, Aqua, Ven, Roxas, Lea, Isa, Xion, Naminé, Isa, Myde, Dewey, Louie, Webby, Violet, April, and June entered the restaurant and met up with Sora, Mickey, Minnie, Huey, May, and Lena.
"Oh there you fellas are!" Mickey said, relieved.
"We got here as fast as we could, though we had to ask like three monsters to find this place." said Donald.
"Though the eyeball in the chopsticks was kinda a dead giveaway. A-hyuck!" chuckled Goofy.
"Were there any creatures of darkness?" asked Minnie.
"A few Heartless, but nothing we couldn't handle." Lea replied with a smirk.
"So what was the emergency?" asked Naminé.
"Well…" Sora began before Myde yelped.
"Uh, do you guys see what I'm seeing?" he nervously asked.
"What?" asked Ven.
Myde pointed and everyone's eyes widen as they saw a walking gym bag.
"You guys are seeing this, right?" asked Louie.
"I know I am." blinked Oswald.
"Is that a kid or tiny monster wearing a gym bag?" asked Webby.
"That is a kid, only…" Sora said before trailing off.
At the same time, as Sulley looked around the table, Mike saw something that made his eye go wide as he gasped, turning Sulley's head. Sulley saw it too: The MI duffle bag qas now giggling and hobbling away on little human kid-feet that poked out from the bottom of the bag.
"WOAHHH!" Sulley cried before looking at Celia and spoke fast. "They don't have anything I like here, so take care, Celia!"
Sulley charged toward the bag, stumbling into a waiter.
"Michael, what's going on?" Celia asked, perplexed.
"Celia!? Please try to understand!" Mike tried to explain when he saw the bag tossed aside, revealing the girl. "I have to... DO SOMETHING!" he shouted, dashing off.
"Michael?" Celia said in surprise.
Sora and Co.'s eyes widened.
"Is that a human girl?" asked Roxas.
"Yep! And she's in the monster world!" Huey gulped.
"Oh crap." Lea said.
"This is not good." Isa muttered, knowing that something bad was gonna happen.
A monster photographer was about to take a picture of a happy monster couple.
"Look happy. Okay, on three. One, two…" he said.
The posing couple saw the girl pop up over the photographer's shoulder. They screamed. The photographer looked up and saw the girl.
"AAAAAAHHHH! A KID!" he screamed as his photographer's flash went off.
The girl jumped onto the counter.
"Boo!" she shouted.
Everyone screamed in terror as people scattered aroudn the restuarnt, running for their lives out the door.
"Grab her, quick!" shouted Aqua as the team tried to make their way through the crowd of panicking monsters.
The sushi chef grabbed a phone and dials. "There's a kid here! A human kid!" he shouted.
The girl carefree through the chaos in the restaurant, babbling.
Mike ran headlong into a pile of take-away boxes, one landing on his head.
Celia was caught up in the stampede of fleeing patrons.
"Googly Bear!" she called out.
"Where'd she go?!" exclaimed Kairi, looking under a table.
"I dunno, keep searching!" shouted Sora, checking the counter.
"That kid is fast!" exclaimed Ven.
"You're telling us!" shouted May.
"There! Over by Sulley!" shouted April.
Everyone looked and saw Sulley trying to grab the girl, but she playfully evaded his outstretched arms
"Come on! Oh! Heh!"
Mike dashed in with a take-away box, which he uses to delicately scoop her up. She popped her head out of the take-away box and blew a raspberry at blue-furred monster hesitantly pushed her head down into the box and shuts the lid.
"Good work you two, that'll keep her safe." said Terra.
"Shit's really hit the fan now." said Riku.
"We gotta get outta here before the fuzz finds us!" cried Dewey.
"We'll head to our apartment!" said Mike.
"Will we all fit?" asked June.
"We'll find out later, come on!" said Sulley.
The 31 monsters ran out of the restaurant… not noticing the gym bag left behind.
"Let's get out of here!" shouted Mike as they ran out into the city.
At that moment, the CDA arrived in helicopters and vans.
"Please remain calm. This is not a drill." "We have an 7835 in progress. Please advise." "Stand clear please." they said.
"Where do we go?!" shouted Xion.
"Down this way, come on!" Sulley said as they went down one street.
"Michael? Michael!" Celia called, spotting the group.
Mike spun around, hearing his girlfriend as everyone stopped.
"Celia!" Mike gasped.
A CDA agent stepped in front of Celia and herded her away.
"Please come with me." he said.
"Ow, stop pushing!" she exclaimed.
"Hey! Get your hands off my Schmoopsie-Poo!" Mike said angrily as he tried to go after them, only for Sulley to grab Mike and yank him away.
"We'll worry about her later Mike, we have to get outta here!" exclaimed Sora as they ran.
"Building clear. Ready for decontamination." the agent said into a walkie-talkie.
The 31 monsters ran down the street, Sulley hanging onto the take-out box.
"Well, I don't think that date could have gone any worse!" Mike said sarcastically.
BLAM!
Behind them a giant green plasma dome enveloped the restaurant and glows ominously as the group skidded to a stop.
Everyone turned around and stared at it in shock.
"You were saying?" Lea deadpanned.
"Whoa…" Sora breathed.
"Oh my…" Minnie gasped.
"Geez…" muttered Webby.
"Holy shit…" gasped Dewey.
"What the actual fuck." Aqua muttered in disbelief.
Things just got worse.
TV:
The same image of the restaurant became part of a news report, with the word, "KID-TASTROPHE!" superimposed over it,
A yellow newscaster monster talked to the camera.
"If witnesses are to be believed, there has been a child security breach for the first time in monster history." he said.
A CDA agent stood in front of the apartment buildings, microphone is thrust in his face.
"We can neither confirm nor deny the presence of a human child here tonight." he said.
With chaos behind them, panicked Monsters spoke into camera.
"Well, a kid flew right over me and blasted a car with its laser vision." said one.
"I tried to run from it, but it picked me up with its mind powers and shook me like a doll." a slug monsters said as a monster with dozens of eyes stepped forward to corroborate.
"It's true! I saw the whole thing!" he said.
A scientist sat next to the anchor.
"It is my professional opinion that now is the time to PANIC!" he shouted, flailing his arms.
CRASH!
It's revealed that the news is on Mike and Sulley's TV in their apartment, which the girl accidentally knocked over onto the floor.
"Uh-oh...!" she cheerfully said.
Sulley and Mike, wearing colanders, snorkel masks, and oven mitts for protection, screamed, scrambling behind a chair for protection.
"Oh, it's coming! It's coming!" Mike cried as the girl came near them.
"Boo!"
"AAAH!"
Sulley and Mike ran across the room.
Sora, Riku, Kairi, Roxas, Naminé, Xion, Lea, Isa, Myde, Aqua, Terra, Ven, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Minnie, Daisy, Max, Oswald, Ortensia, Huey, Dewey, Louie, Webby, Lena, Violet, April, May, and June stood watching all of this happen, wearing similar "armor" Sulley and Mike insisted they wear.
"Shame about the TV." muttered Louie,
"This is just weird at an entirely different level." said Roxas.
"You're right. Usually this is the other way around." said Naminé.
"Do you think we should do something?" asked Goofy.
"I'm not even sure what to do." said Terra.
"Some of us do have experience with kids, but never with human ones." said Daisy.
"Can I ask something?" asked June. "How is it that all of us can fit in this apartment for two people and not feel cramped?"
Everyone blinked in surprise as Mike and Sulley ran past with the girl in tow.
"I… I actually have no idea." said Mickey.
"I was just focused on not going to jail or ending up like George Sanderson." said Myde.
"June has a point, how are we fitting in this apartment?" asked Ven.
"I think I have an answer." said Violet, holding up a small blue device. "According to this that Gyro gave me, thanks to the magic in this world, there is a spacial displacement field in this apartment that allows beings of great size and/or capacity to occupy smaller volumes. Well, textbook transdimensional transitality really."
Everyone looked at Violet.
"That… actually makes sense… in a way," said Ortensia.
"I like that theory." smiled Huey. "Very smart theory Violet."
"Why thank you Hubert." Violet smiledback, blushing a bit.
At that moment, Mike and Sulley rushed by again to the windows where they spotted helicopters scanning the area. They quickly yanked the shades closed. The girl came towards them as they ran away again, screaming.
"She's just a girl, not the plague!" Kairi said in exasperation.
The girl opened the window shade, standing in full view of the helicopters outside.
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! Come here, kid!" Mike shouted as he gently pushed her away from view using a broom, then sprayed the area with disinfectant. He then spotted something. "No, don't touch those, you little-!" he began.
Too late. The girl has found Mike's CD collection in to stacks, took one out, and the stacks crashed down.
"Oh, now those were alphabetized!" Mike groaned.
"Ooh, sorry about that Mike." winced Sora.
"It's okay, it's all right." Mike muttered, tossing his "Mask" to the side. "As long as it doesn't come near us, we're going to be okay."
As if on cue, the girl walked up and sneezed into his eye.
"AAH!" Mike cried as he aimed the spray can.
"MIKE DON'T-!" Terra shouted, only for Mike to accidentally spray the disinfectant in his eye.
"AAAAAAAAAAH!" Mike screamed, covering his eye in pain as everyone winced and hissed at his pain.
The girl was now approaching Sulley. Whimpering, he protected himself with a garbage can lid as he stood up on his recliner. The girl pointed to a one eyed teddy bear, out of her reach.
"Oh, you like this?" Sulley asked. "Fetch!"
Sulley tossed the bear across the room. The girl ran after it, picking up the bear and hugging it.
"Good idea Sulley, that'll calm her down!" praised Mickey.
Mike, whose eye was red, saw this and gasped. "Hey, hey, that's it! No one touches Little Mikey!" he snapped, angrily swiping the bear out of Boo's hands.
Stunned, her face begins to redden, and her eyes well up with tears.
"Oh you shouldn't have done that Mike…" Daisy said as realization dawned on the travelers.
"Mike, give her the bear." Sulley said, having the same realization.
The girl began to wail louder and louder.
"Oh, no…!" Mike cried, hiding behind his bear.
"Uh oh!" winced Dewey.
"Brace yourselves!" cried April.
The girl screamed at the top of her lungs. The 31 monsters covered their ears. They then noticed the lights in the apartment surge.
"What's going on with the lights?!" shouted Riku.
"It's not just the lights, all of the electric stuff's flickering!" shouted Isa.
From outside, the apartment lights pulsed brightly, creating a beacon for the helicopters. The circling helicopters headed towards them, their spotlights shining on them. All the monsters began to panic.
"Gah it's the fuzz!" cried Roxas
"Make it stop, guys! Make it stop!" Mike shouted as he pulled the shade down.
Riku, Terra, Isa, and Lea ran over to keep the blinds shut so the helicopters wouldn't spot them more. Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webby quickly baradaced the door.
"What do we do?!" asked May.
"We could sing to her!" Donald suggested. "Lulla-BYEEEEE!"
Unfortunately, Donald's singing duck-voice didn't calm the girl down and she began to cry harder.
"My bad." Donald winced.
"Anybody else got anything!?" asked Lena.
Quickly, Sulley offered her the bear.
"Here! Look! See the bear? Ooh, nice bear!" he tried saying to her.
It wasn't working as she continued to cry.
"Sulley...!" Mike said in panic.
"They're getting closer!" shouted Riku, eyeing the helicopters.
"I can't face jail!" May cried.
"Neither can I." Violet said worriedly.
"I can." Lena smirked before faltering. "But I don't want to right now."
Desperate, Sulley began to dance with the bear.
"See? Ooh, bear, ooh! Oh, he's a happy bear. He's not crying, neither should you Or we'll be in trouble 'Cause they're gonna find us So please stop crying right now " he sang.
The girl stopped crying. The lights returned to normal levels.
"Good! Good, Sulley! Keep it up! You're doing great!" Mike said, peeking through the decades.
"He's right, the helicopters are leaving." said Isa, as everyone sighed in relief,
"Good work Sulley." praised Max.
"Yeah, that was a good idea!" said Goofy.
" Ooh, ah, the happy bear, he has no... " Sulley continued to sing.
The girl reached for the bear, accidentally touching Sulley's hand, making him scream as he threw the bear aside and held his hand.
"Bwaaaaah! Yaah! Oh, she touched me! It touched me! Aaaah!" he screamed.
Sulley's yelling frightened the kid, who started crying again. The lights surged once more.
"Sulley calm down!" cried Kairi.
"You're not poisoned!" shouted Naminé.
"You're making her cry again!" shouted Aqua.
"Sulley, the bear! The bear! Give her the...!" Mike said as he ran towards Sulley… only for one of his swim flippers caused him to trip on a lamp and he rolled across the floor like a bowling ball. "Whoahhhhh!"
Mike rolls into an overturned garbage can and bumped into a shelf, sending a stack of books into his mouth. A hanging stereo speaker then landed on his head.
"OOH!" Sora and Co. winced.
"That HAD to hurt!" Max grimaced.
The girl thought it was hilarious and began laughing. The lights in the apartment glowed even brighter than before. The region lit up by the laughter's power radiated outwards from Mike and Sulley's window. In a moment, all the apartment windows were glowing brightly. The lights flared to a white hot brightness, and then…
POP!
The laughter subsided as all the lights went out.
Everyone stared in shocked silences, trying to process what just happened as Goofy lifted the stereo off of Mike's head.
"What was that?!" Sulley asked, stunned.
Mike, still wedged inside the garbage can, hopped over to him.
"I have no idea." he said, muffled. "But it would be really great if it didn't do it again."
"Yeah good call." said Louie.
The girl giggled again.
"Shhhh!" said Sulley.
"Shhhh." the girl copied, almost laughing.
"Shhhh!" Sulley shushed again.
"Shhhh." she copied again, smiling sheepishly.
Later…
Due to the power outage, everyone had to light candles in the room until the power came back on.
The girl sat at one end of the room coloring while at the other end Sora, Sulley, Mike and Co. hunkered behind furniture, tossing her pieces of cereal.
"Isn't she cute?" gushed Minnie.
"She reminds me of the girls when they were babies." gushed Daisy.
"We'll admit, we were adorable." May giggled.
"How could I do this? How could I be so stupid? This could destroy the company." Sulley groaned.
"The company? Who cares about the company? What about us?! That thing is a KILLING MACHINE!" Mike whispered loudly.
The girl spun around in a circle, getting dizzy. "La la la la la la la la…" she sang as she did.
"Yes you can tell by it's dance of death." Riku said sarcastically.
"Oh she's adorable!" gushed Mickey.
"Brings back memories." Goofy said longingly.
"I bet it's just waiting for us to fall asleep, and then, WHAM! Oh, we're easy prey, my friend, easy prey! We're sitting targets!" Mike said as the girl fell over.
"Please tell me we have this on video!" exclaimed Naminé.
"I'm already recording her." said Aqua, holding up her Gummiphone.
"So cute!" Webby cooed.
Mike turned back to his desk and looked at his paper.
"Okay, look, I think I have a plan here." Using mainly spoons, we dig a tunnel under the city and release it into the wild." he said with a grin.
Everyone deadpanned at him.
"Spoons?" Sulley said.
Mike's expression faltered. "That's it. I'm out of ideas. We're closed." he said, crumpling up the piece of paper, and tossing it onto a large existing pile of crumpled plans. "Hot air balloon? Too expensive. Giant slingshot? Too conspicuous. Enormous wooden horse? Too Greek!"
"You're really overthinking this dude." said Dewey.
"She's not gonna cause any harm." added Huey.
"You guys are more dramatic than our friend Launchpad. And that's saying something." said Oswald.
April looked over at the human who was coloring.
"Whatcha drawing?" she asked.
"Looka dooko teeko peeka!" the girl babbled, holding up her drawing. Crude as it was, it was unmistakenly a picture of her and Sulley holding hands.
Sulley was surprised. As was everyone else.
"Aw that's so cute!"
Surprised, the world-travelers turned to see that the one who said that… was Lena! She was gushing over the picture before she realized that all eyes were on her. She coughed awkwardly.
"I mean, it's nice, yeah, whatever…" Lena said dismissively. "Still, cute picture kid." she said to the girl.
"It sure is. She doesn't see you as a scary monster at all." smiled Webby.
"No plan... no plan... can't think... can't think. Flat-lining...flat-lining…" Mike said in the background.
The girl yawned.
"Uh, Mike, I think she's getting tired." Sulley said.
Mike spun around with a faux smirk. "Well, then why don't you find some place for it to sleep… WHILE I THINK OF A PLAN?!" he suddenly shouted, making everyone jump as he slammed his hands on the desk.
Sulley crawled over to the girl.
"Are you sleepy? You wanna sleep? Is that what you want? Huh?" he asked.
She blinked sleepily.
"Yep. It might be past her bedtime in the human world." said Donald.
"You take her to bed Sulley, we can clean up around here." said Mickey.
"Oh I couldn't ask you to do that." Sulley said in surprise.
"Hey don't worry Sulley, it's the least we can do." smiled Sora.
Sulley nodded with a smile as Mike continued to grumble over his faulty plans.
Sulley led a trail of cereal pieces into his room, and the girl ate them. He put some of the pieces on a newspaper as a little area for her to sleep.
"Okay, all right, making a nice little area for you to–" he said before he heard a giggle. He turns around to find the girl in his bed.. "No, hey, hey, that's my bed. You're going to get your germs all over it." he protested.
She snuggled into the covers.
Sulley sighed. "Fine. My chair is more comfortable, anyway." he said, starting to walk out before she whined anxiously. "What?"
She pointed to the closet, mumbling.
"It's just a closet. Will you go to sleep?" he asked.
"Everything ok Sulley?"
Sulley looked to see Sora, Donald, and Goofy enter the room. It had been Sora who spoke.
"The girl's scared of the closet." Sulley replied.
"Well you do come out closets in the human world." Donald pointed out.
"Yeah but that's our job and we don't do that here." Sulley said.
Goofy looked over at the girl. "Gawrsh little girl, there's nothing to be scared of." he soothed.
The girl held up one of her drawings. Sora, Donald, and Goofy's eyes widened as Sulley examined it. It was a familiar purple drawing.
"Hey, that looks like Randall." Sulley mused before he realized what the girl was implying. "Randall's your monster!" he sighed, waking over to the closet. "You think he's gonna come through the closet and scare you. Oh, boy, how do I explain this? Uh, it's empty. See?" he said, opening the closet.
The girl pulled the covers over her head.
"No monster in here." Sulley said as he stepped inside. He paused. "Well, now there is. But I'm not gonna scare you. I'm off duty." he said, stepping out and closing it.
"You see? There's nothing to be afraid of." Sora nodded.
She looked into the closet intently, still afraid.
Sulley sighed. "Okay, how 'bout I sit here until you fall asleep?" he said, pushing over two pieces of cinder block in front of the closet and sat down.
The girl stared back at him, wide awake.
"Go ahead. Go to sleep. Hmm-hmm. Now. Now, go." Sulley said.
But she was still not getting it. Sulley tried to mime his words.
"Uh, you... go... to... sleep!" he said before fake snoring.
"Yeah like this!" Donald chimed in.
Sora, Donald, and Goofy fell against each other in a sleep pile, fake snoring too.
The girl giggled for a moment, then passed out, sleeping peacefully. Sulley breathed a sigh of relief as he, Sora, Donald, and Goofy got up. Sulley watched her sleep, a tiny figure in his giant bed.
"Brings back memories." Donald said fondly, seeing Huey, Dewey, and Louie, in their duck forms, sleeping soundly in the human girl's spot.
"You said it." Goofy nodded, seeing a young Max, in his dog form, sleeping in the girl's position.
"See Sulley? How harmful can that girl be?" Sora said quietly.
Sulley didn't say anything as he looked at the girl. Sora had a point. How harmful could she be? He didn't feel poisoned. And Sora and his friends were ok.
Goofy, Donald, and Sora exited first. Sulley stayed a moment longer to look at the girl before he shut the door.
At that time, while the rest of the world-travelers were cleaning up, Lea spotted something on the bookshelf.
"Monsters University Yearbook?" he asked, picking it up.
Mike, who had just finished fixing the desk lamps, turned around to face him alongside the rest of the travelers.
"Oh I see you found our old college yearbook huh?" he said.
"So this place was your Alma Mater huh?" Lea mused, opening it up.
Everyone, including Sora, Sulley, Donald, and Goofy, walked up to them.
"Yep. That's where Mikey and I went to college." said Sulley.
"I studied hard to be at the top of my class!" Mike said proudly. "Professor Knight was impressed with me as the days went by."
Lea then saw another page and gasped. Everyone leaned over to see and saw what he was looking at and gasped too.
"You guys went to college with Randall?!" gasped Naminé.
Mike chuckled bitterly. "Yep. Back then he was my roommate. Went by Randy and wore glasses. Real nerd too."
"Got influenced by the cool kids and eventually became the real 'nice guy' you met earlier." said Sulley.
"Well not all cool kids are good people." said May.
"College sounded a bit rough for you guys." mused Ven.
Sulley heckled humorlessly. "You said it Ven. I was practically coaxing on my family bloodline since my Dad, Bill Sullivan, is a famous scarer. But Dean Abigail Hardscrabble wasn't impressed." he sighed. "That was one of the reasons why the famous scarer kicked us out of the program, especially after an incident."
"Yeah. The other was the fact that despite all my hard work, I wasn't scary." Mike sighed.
Sora and Co. were surprised.
"Sheehs, sounds like she's got strict priorities." said Kairi.
"But there was a way to get back into the program!" said Mike. "Turn to page 108."
Lea did so and showed them a picture of a younger Mike and Sulley with four monsters.
"Who are those guys?" asked Aqua.
"Our old team and roommates during the Scare Games, aka, our ticket back into the program for all six of us!" said Mike.
"Oozma Kappa?" read Sora, raising an eyebrow.
"That was our team name." said Sulley.
"No offense, but what kinda name is that?" asked Louie.
"Don't ask me, they came up with it." said Sulley.
"This guy looks a little old for a college student." said Myde, pointing to the older salmon-colored monster with the batwing mustache.
"That's Don Carlton. A salesman who returned to college to be a scarer." said Sulley. "He founded Oozma Kappa and became its president."
"Well you're never too old to return to college." shrugged Oswald.
"Yeah! Maxie and I should know since I returned for a little while to earn my degree! A-hyuck!" said Goofy.
"Yeah, to my school." Max snorted before smiling. "Then again, if it wasn't for you, we wouldn't have won the X-Games."
"Say, what ever happened to that Bradley Uppercrust guy?" asked Mickey.
"P.J. and Bobby said he was in juvie or something. Or at least that's what I heard when I last spoke to them." Max shrugged.
"That pink one with the 5 eyes is Scott Squibbles." said Mike, pointing to another student. "Calls himself Squishy. He was the youngest. He could sneak up on ya and you'd never see him coming."
"Sounds good for sneak attacks." mused Riku.
"Yeah." chuckled Sulley. "And believe it or not, but our fraternity house was his mother Sheri's house."
"She was very welcoming." Mike added.
Everyone chuckled.
"She sounds like a nice mother." mused Violet.
"Those two are Terri with an 'I' and Terry with a 'Y'." said Sulley, pointing at the orange two-headed monster. "Shorter one's a dance major. Taller one's not."
"But they work well with misdirection." said Mike, saying that last part in an ominous tone like his fellow schoolmates before him.
"Ooh, who's the purple guy?" asked June.
"Oh that's Art. New age philosophy student." said Mike. Got a lot of energy that one."
"Just like you three." Sora said to Dewey, Webby, and May, who laughed.
"And someone else before them." Kairi said to Sora teasingly, making him chuckle.
"So did you guys get back into the scaring program?" asked Daisy.
Sulley and Mike squirmed.
"Well we did… and then we didn't… because I cheated." Sulley sighed.
"What?! Why?!" exclaimed Xion.
"Hardscrabble knew Mike wasn't scary and I wasn't gonna take that chance." Sulley sighed. "I rigged the last game so Mike could come out on top."
"When Sulley admitted it, I wanted to prove him, Hardscrabble, and practically everyone wrong." Mike said. "So I went to the door lab into the human world to prove I was a scanner… only it didn't work." Mike said glumly.
"I went after him and we talked things out." said Sulley. "I told him that even when I act fearless, I'm scared myself sometimes."
"We understand that." said Sora. "We travel around a lot fighting bad guys and creatures of darkness."
"Sometimes we're in situations where even we get scared." said Aqua.
"And I get scarred easily." said Myde.
"Same here… unless the ones I love are in danger." Donald nodded.
"We tried to get back, but Hardscrabble shut down the door and saif the authorities should handle it." Sulley went on.
"Ugh, I always hate it when they do that." groaned Dewey.
"Hard as she sounded, she kinda did have a point." said Huey.
"So how did you guys get back?" asked Webby.
"They called the authorities in the human world and evacuated the kids from the cabin." said Mike. "So we had to scare them instead. And real good to generate enough power to get back."
"You ever scared adults before?" asked Lena.
"No and I thought it wouldn't work." said Sulley. "But Mike was able to help plan a perfect scare and I was able to pull it off."
"So well in fact, not only did the adults' screams power the door, but also filled up all of the canisters in the room!" Mike added.
"Golly, that's amazing!" exclaimed Mickey.
"Yeah. All of the students were impressed. Even Hardscrabble. She said it herself that we surprised her." said Sulley.
"And then you were allowed back in?!" asked Dewey.
"Eh… we got expelled." Mike said with a weak grin.
"What?! Why?!" asked Louie, shocked.
"Destruction of school property. And it was a good practice room for the students." said Sulley.
"That makes sense." Terra sighed. "But then how did you guys get to work at Monsters Inc.?"
"They were always hiring in the mail room." Sulley said. "And our fellow Oozma Kappa members were able get back into the Scare Program and we worked our way to where we are now."
"Gawrsh, that's amazing!" said Goofy.
"You guys sure went through a lot to get to where you are now." said Roxas.
"We sure did." said Sulley.
"Anyway, did you get the girl to sleep?" asked Isa.
"Eventually yes." nodded Sulley before turned to Mike. "Hey, Mike, this might sound crazy, but I don't think that kid's dangerous."
"Gee you don't say?" Lena said sarcastically.
"Really? Well, in that case, let's keep it." Mike said with a faux smile. "I always wanted a pet THAT COULD KILL ME!"
"Sheesh you're being overdramatic." sighed Violet.
"Now, look, what if we just put her back in her door?" Sulley suggested.
"What?" Mike asked in disbelief.
"Mike, think about it. If we send her back, it's like it never happened. Everything goes back to normal." Sulley replied.
"That's a very good idea Sulley." smiled Mickey.
"And we can help just in case any of our enemies are out to get this girl." said Sora.
"Why would they go after a little girl?" Myde whispered to Isa.
"This world is powered by scream." Isa replied. "They might try to take advantage of that."
"I bet my monster beak Randall's involved." said Louie.
"Something tells me this might go beyond the little girl." said Terra.
"We'll figure out what that might be later." said Riku. "We should go with Sulley's idea and get the kid home."
"Is that a joke? Tell me you're joking." Mike said in disbelief.
Sulley gave him an "I'm not kidding" look.
"Sulley, I'd like to think that given the circumstances, I have been extremely forgiving up 'til now, but that is a horrible idea!" Mike said firmly. "What are we gonna do, march right out into public with that thing? Then I guess we just waltz right up to the factory, right?"
As Sulley listens to Mike, his eyes were drawn to the purple fabric of his reclining chair.
"Mike, we'll figure it out." Aqua said calmly.
"For right now, we'll sleep on it and we'll figure it out in the morning." said Naminé.
Huey yawned.
"For right now, I think we should get some sleep." said Daisy, noticing how tired Huey was.
"Yeah tonight was stressful." said Lea.
"Are there any hotels we can spend the night at?" asked Isa.
"There's one down the street to the left." said Mike.
"Thanks." Sora smiled. "We'll see you in the morning."
"And keep the girl safe." added Minnie.
"We will." said Sulley.
"Yeah yeah we will." Mike said dismissively, going back to his plans.
Outside the apartment, all 29 world-travelers exited the apartment.
"So Mikek said to the left, right?" asked Xion.
"Correct." said Isa.
"I'm still trying to figure out what Randall was doing late on the Scare Floor." said Sora.
"He was giving us odd vibes. He can't be trusted." said Lena.
"And it's not just because of his weird eye squint and slick personality." said June.
"What could he be up to?" pondered Aqua.
"And how does the Organization fit into this?" added Terra.
"I'm sure we'll figure it out in the morning." said Minnie. "Right now, let's heck into the hotel, figure out roommates, and get to sleep."
"Good idea Min." said Mickey.
With that, the large group made their way down the street.
Unbeknownst to them, five figures stood on top of the building watching over them. They were the members of Organization XIII, though their hoods were up.
"Looks like some of those kids are catching on." one said in Xigbar's voice.
"No matter. They won't be able to stop our plans for this world and its source of power." another said in Xemnas' voice.
"And their power is helping my heart get stronger by the day." said another in Vanitas' voice. "Even if I don't have my brother's heart to fully complete it, it's still giving me awesome power."
"It will only be a matter of time before they find out who all is involved in our plans for this world." another said in Ansem's voice.
"It won't matter then." another said in Young Xehanort's voice. "Once the scaring industry has been revolutionized with a vast amount of childrens' screams, it will fall to darkness."
"And our helpers will dominate it under Maleficent's rule." Xigbar added.
"Let us leave Vanitas to his work." said Ansem.
"After all, we have other worlds to monitor." nodded Xemnas.
Xigbar opened a corridor of darkness and he, Young Xehanort, Xemnas, and Ansem walked through it.
Vanitas just watched the heroes go.
"Sleep well you little bastards." he smirked. "You and the so-called 'next generation' aren't gonna have a pleasant day tomorrow."
With that, Vaniitas teleported away.
To be continued…
