Chapter 2: The Sword against Darkness
Morning soon came and Dolly found herself back in the room.
Dolly: I don't remember coming in here.
Delilah: (Coming by) Feeling better, sweetie?
Dolly said nothing. She came down for breakfast without saying a word. While she ate, her mind wondered back to last night. As her parents left for work, Dolly walked around the house. She discovered the footprints of the stranger from last night. Her smart little brother, Dawkins, was studying them.
Dawkins: Strange. Those weren't here yesterday.
Dylan: No signs of forced entry last night. Dolly, did you see anyone?
Dolly: (Lying) No.
Dolly walked away, even more distressed than before. All day, she felt uneasy. By noon, the strangest thing started to happen. The sky grew dark as dark clouds covered the sky.
Dylan: Storm clouds? That wasn't in the forecast.
Before Dolly knew what she was doing, she went to the front door and ran. She ran straight to the park and saw a black orb in the sky surging with some kind of energy.
Dolly: What's going on?
Suddenly, to her surprise, Shadows appeared from the Darkness.
Dolly: They're real?!
Dolly tried to fight them, but nothing she did could even hurt them.
Dolly: What are these things?!
Out from behind her, a Shadow pounced onto Dolly. Soon, many more started to dogpile onto Dolly, dragging her down into the shadows of darkness like quicksand.
Dolly: Please, someone help.
Dolly looked up at the sky as the world turned black. Suddenly, a bright light pierced the darkness. Dolly opened her eyes again and saw the sword, Yubashiri, in her mouth and the sheath strapped to her side. Then, Dolly heard the same voice from her dream.
?: Yubashiri… Protect the Key.
More Shadows appeared, but this time Dolly felt prepared. One pounced on her and Dolly sliced it with Yubashiri and destroyed it.
Dolly: (Muffled) Now you're in trouble!
Dolly rushed at the Shadows and cut her way through the horde. One got lucky and tackled Dolly. The impact was so forceful, the ball Dolly had flown right out of her collar and into the pond. In the water, the ball began to shined brightly. Dolly kept taking down Shadows, but more and more just kept appearing. Just as one was about to pounce onto Dolly, a burst of electricity nailed it. Dolly looked behind her and a strange yellow koala-like creature with antennas.
Dolly: (Muffled) Who are you?
?: Sparky.
Before Dolly could ask anything else, more Shadows came.
Dolly: (Muffled) Wanna help me?
Sparky nodded and blasted some Shadows. The duo carved a path through. Dolly saw Roxy fleeing into a hollowed tree.
Dolly: (Muffled) This way!
Sparky followed Dolly into the tree. Strangely, there was a door in there. Dolly put Yubashiri into its sheath.
Dolly: Roxy let's get out of here!
Roxy: (Weakly) Dolly…
The door opened and a dark wind thrusted Roxy towards Dolly. Before the best friends could collide, Roxy faded away, leaving only her Peace dog collar around Sparky. The wind blasted Dolly and Sparky outside. When they got up, everything was being ripped apart. Dolly couldn't even see her house anymore. They turned round and saw the same giant from Dolly's dream.
Dolly: (Staying strong while drawing Yubashiri) We can take this thing! You with me, Sparky?!
Sparky: Ih!
Dolly: (Muffled) Going to assume that means yes.
The giant slammed his fist down but the pair dodged the punch. Sparky fired electricity at it and nailed its head. Staggering back, Dolly climbed its arm and slashed its face. Dolly landed right next to Sparky as it was dazed.
Sparky: Zizz-zizz.
Dolly was confused until Sparky fired some electricity between his antennas.
Dolly: (Muffled) Oh, I get it now!
Sparky got on Dolly's back as the giant threw another punch. Dolly dodged it and climbed its arm.
Dolly: (Muffled) Hey Ugly… This is called Teamwork!
Dolly stabbed Yubashiri into the giant's chest and Sparky fired electricity at it. Yubashiri's metal conducted the electricity and went right into the giant. The electricity surged into the giant and destroyed it. The ball started to suck in everything. Dolly held onto a tree and Sparky held onto Dolly.
Dolly: (Losing grip) I'm… slipping!
Dolly lost her grip and the duo flew into the orb, not knowing where they were gonna end up.
