Chapter Twenty-Seven
Master of the Void
Momo's eyes slowly began to open as she started to pull herself up a bit. Her eyes began to regain their focus as she soon found herself in what appeared to be a space of some kind. Though it wasn't all empty, she noticed a blue orb off in the distance as she staggered to her feet. She looked around to see if there was anyone else around. But to her misfortune, there wasn't anyone else in this space of emptiness.
"W-Where am I? The last thing I remember was-" Momo paused upon remembering what happened to her. She along with the rest of her classmates were fighting against the samurai and were victorious, but that victory was short-lived when the knight appeared and killed Tokoyami, Sero, and herself. It didn't help that she died as well from the knight snapping her neck like it was a twig. She soon kneels onto the floor before vomiting the contents of her stomach. "I…I died. I died from the villain snapping my neck."
"Yes, you did." said a mysterious voice from the void which caused Momo to pull her head up quickly. "Not a pleasant way to go, but something no one should face."
"Who's there!? S-Show yourself!" She yelled before noticing a green color butterfly floating in the air for a moment before appearing in front of her. The moment the butterfly landed on her nose, a bright light erupted from it as Momo closed her eyes from the slight pain she felt from the light. The moment she felt the light disappear, she opened her eyes to see a woman with silvery hair wearing red and blue colored clothes that resembled that of a kimono.
"No need to be alarmed. I'm not here to hurt you or anything." She said as Momo blinked in surprise by seeing the woman appear in front of her. "Hello cutie~"
"Um…who are you?"
"Oh right, sorry. Guess you're not like most humans that are used to magical stuff like this." She said before extending a hand toward Momo. "My name's Miyamoto Musashi. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"...Wait, you're Miyamoto Musashi?"
"Yep! The legendary swordsmen...or women in this case?" She said before retracting her hand back.
"But…Miyamoto Musashi is a boy…not a girl…unless that's your hero codename?" Momo asked as Musashi shook her head.
"No, that's my actual name…Though I suppose it's a bit of a surprise to know that there's a female version of Musashi as a servant."
"Servant…you serve someone, like a lord?"
"No, no, nothing like that. A servant is a heroic spirit that would normally be summoned to join in on the holy grail war. But in this case, it's a bit different." Musashi said as she motions for Momo to sit down next to her. "Would you be willing to listen to what I have to say?"
"Only if you can answer a few of my questions first," Momo said as she sat down next to the servant. "Right now everything you're saying is…rather confusing to say the least."
"Makes sense, but I suppose I should start from the beginning seeing how you have no idea what a servant is." She said before stretching her limbs a bit before starting her explanation. For the past couple of hours in the void, Musashi explained to Momo everything she knew. What a servant was, the concept of magic, who she was and where she came from, and where the two of them were. Needless to say, the young girl was speechless from what the servant said. A lot from the fact that there was another world similar to theirs, just without the concept of heroes and villains.
"So…you're from another world, where magic exists and historical figures are turned into servants which can be summoned by a mage to fight for them in a war called the holy grail war?" Momo asked as the servant nodded her head.
"Yep, though in this case, it's a bit different."
"What do you mean?" She asked as Musashi used her magic to summon up seven images of the beasts that have manifested into the world.
"Your world is in great danger. And I don't mean by a villain of your world, I mean by threats of humanity, the humans from another world called them the beast." Musashi said as Momo eyed all seven of them. "The Beasts are the sins of humanity, not the seven deadly sins mind you, but actual sins of humanity. Pity, Regression, Lust & Lapse, Lust & Rapture, Comparison, Cherished, Depravity, Shame, and Collapse. Each beast represents the evil of humanity, and right now the beast of Pity has made himself known due to the demon god pillar rayshifting you and your entire class Fuyuki City."
"You're telling me that these creatures are real, and they are walking around the earth as we speak!?"
"Well given how the other grand servants have made themselves appear on your planet, then yes." She said before making the images vanish. "It's the grand servant's job to combat these beasts that want to bring harm to humanity."
"Okay, and these Grand Servants…what are they?"
"Grand Servants are like super powerful servants that fight against the beast. So far from what I've seen, four of them have already appeared in your world." She said before bringing up four images. Momo's eyes widened upon seeing Lily, Mina, Mineta, and Kaminari faces. Musashi noticed Momo's expression as she raised an eyebrow at her. "Something wrong?"
"Those are my classmates…are you telling me that they're Grand Servants?"
"Seems like it if they accepted the deal with the divine spirit they have inside them." The samurai said as she turned her attention to the human. "Which is why I brought you here to the root. Because I want to make a deal with you."
"...What kind of deal?" Momo asked in a slight hesitation.
"I'm willing to bring you back to life if you become the host for the grand servant, which is me by the way." She answered, which caused Momo to blink in surprise.
"Can you even do that? I mean for all I know, this could be just an illusion or a dream, or-" Before Momo could finish, she felt Musashi smack her on the head with her hand, causing her to yelp and rub her head from the slight pain she felt.
"This isn't a dream, nor is it an illusion. You've been given a second chance at life. Not because of me, mind you, but because the planet chose you to be a suitable host for being the Grand Servant."
"You're saying like the planet is a living being…I mean it is alive, but it's like you're saying it has a mind of its own."
"Kind of, look, it's a bit difficult to explain. But if you want more information on how this works, then you'll need to accept the deal I'm kind of offering to you."
"...Say if I believe all this stuff…and if I accept this…deal. What will happen to me?"
"Well your body will change to suit the heroic spirit, which is me by the way, you'll have the use of my abilities to some degree, and you'll be given a second chance at life," Musashi said before moving next to her. "The only thing that will be acquired from you is that you and the other Grand Servants will have to face the beast."
"Why pick me. Surely you could've chosen someone else like a top-ranking pro hero like All Might, or Endeavor?"
"I mean it's not like we haven't thought about it. The issue is that people around your age can still develop and have a lot of potential. Adults, not so much to some degree. It takes them longer to reach a certain level. Not to mention, a lot of them aren't compatible with me. You on the other hand are." She said before noticing Momo's concerned expression on her face. "If you don't want to accept the deal then that's fine. I can just send you on your way to the afterlife and find another host. Just remember not to have any regrets when your friends are dead."
"...Really?" Momo said as she deadpans at Musashi.
"What? I'm being truthful. You do know your friends are in a sticky situation, right? I figure you would take up the offer I'm giving you." Momo paused for a moment upon hearing Musashi's words along with processing them. Servants, heroic spirits, magic, The Beasts. All this was confusing, to say the least, but what struck her curiosity was knowing that Mina, Mineta, Lily, and Kaminari were Grand Servants. How long have they kept this secret from her…how long had Lily kept this from anyone else? Momo shook her head before looking over at Musashi.
"Fine, I'll take you up on that offer. But you better not be tricking me so you can take control of my body and kill my friends."
"The only time when I'll take over your body is when you're in danger. Other than that, you're in full control of your body. Of course, if you need help, then I'm willing to give you a hand." She said before extending a hand at Momo. "Well then, how about it? Will you help me save your world?" Momo looked down at the servant's hand for a moment before extending her hand and shaking it. A smile appeared on Musashi's face as magic circuits started to appear from her and move onto Momo's body.
"W-What is this?" Momo asked as she noticed the red circuit lines appear on her body for a moment before vanishing.
"As I said before, I just need to change your body to suit me. Just don't freak out when your appearance changes when you wake up." She said as Momo felt herself getting sleepy before falling to the ground. She soon looked up at Musashi who kneeled in front of her and placed a hand on her face. "I'll be sure to help you in saving your friends, but for now. Just rest up a bit." With that, the young girl's vision faded into darkness as her soul soon returned to the singularity where she died.
Within the city of the Fuyuki Singularity, the group made their way into the abandoned school which had some power available seeing how certain areas of the school's light were on. Within one of the classrooms of the school, Surtr along with Fenrir, Aizawa, Iida, Toru, Jirou, and Momo was currently inside. Surtr and Aizawa were arguing with each other, Toru was currently comforting Jirou who was recovering from being hit by Izo, but traumatized by what happened, and Iida and Fenrir were currently surveying the area.
"Look, I told you everything that you needed to know. What Fenrir and I are, where you end up in, the whole magical concept, the holy grail war, and why your quirk doesn't work on me. Now I don't know where you humans come from, but if you have an invisible girl, and a boy with engines in his legs, how hard is it to believe that we're heroic spirits from another world?" Surtr asked.
"Because magic is not real. I quirk I can believe more than stuff children read from fairy tale books. You'll have to do better than that if you want to convince me that magic is real."
"Oh Odin, give me strength," Surtr said as she pinched the bridge of her nose. "Look, I don't know how to make you believe what I'm saying is the truth."
"Which you won't, given how you're doing a poor job at being convincing."
"...Okay one more wise-ass remark, and I will throw you out the window like I did when you tried to use that capturing cloth on me when you thought I was a villain. Need I remind you that Fenrir saved your ass from a horde of skeletons and I did save your student from getting killed. So a little bit of trust would be nice wouldn't it?"
"While I appreciate the fact that you both saved us, that doesn't mean you gain our trust off the back. For all we know, you're in league with the villain that brought us here."
"Again, you're warranted to that idea. But what would I gain from killing you all?" She asked before noticing he was about to speak, only to raise a hand at him. "And no, it's not for some sick pleasure or something along the lines of that."
"Then why would you be willing to help us? Surely you didn't do it out of the kindness of your heart."
"Fenrir was the one that saved you, so you'll need to ask him why. Why I saved your students from becoming a meal for the skeletons was mainly because I figure I see who they were seeing how the humans in this city were wiped out by the Corpse King."
"You mean the villain that was about to kill Jirou?" He asked as Surtr nodded.
"In the holy grail war, there are fourteen servants and fourteen masters fighting to lay claim for the holy grail. The all-powerful wish granting cup that grants the user any wish they want."
"Again, I find it hard to believe something like that exists."
"Well believe it bitch. Originally the plan was to have us, servants, fight against each other, but then the Corpse King came and things changed." She said before looking out the window. "The moment he came here, he took down seven of the servants. In doing so, he corrupted them and made them serve under him. His first order is to kill every human in the city so that a possible mage couldn't summon a heroic spirit. Hence why you see nothing but remains of humans burnt to a crisp, turned to stone, or something else."
"Yet somehow you and the wolf survived?"
"Again, not human. As for how we survive for this long. It's mainly because the other remaining servants allied to take down the king and his servants. So far Fenrir was able to take down Caster, I took down Lancer, and Jack took down Archer and Rider. Though sadly we lost our team's Lancer, Archer, Caster, and Berserker."
"...I'm going to assume those are codenames. Then you must be the Saber of the group?"
"Leader. In this case, we're the good guys of this city trying to bring an end to this war. The Corpse King is the villain that needs to be brought down. Take him down and you all should be able to return to wherever you humans came from."
"And by taking him down, what do you mean by that?"
"Simple, kill him." She said which took them by surprise. "The Corpse King isn't a real person, but a corrupted mystic code…or for a better understanding, he's a living armor made out of magic. So if we take down the knight in black armor, then you guys will be able to leave seeing how he's the source behind all this."
"S-So all you have to do is take this Corpse King guy down…right?" Toru asked as Surtr nodded. "Y-You can do that…right?"
"We can't take down the King yet. We need to take down the other servants so they won't be a problem. Though doing that is a pain in the ass because we're down to three on our side. You can thank Berserker and Assassin for that."
"And how strong are they?" Aizawa asked.
"Berserker, he's pretty much a mad man but has both the skills and strength to hold his ground against Me and Fenrir. Assassin, he's skilled at sneaking up on people and killing them before they can react in time, but strength-wise, it depends on the skill he uses to kill his opponent."
"So you can't hold your own against the two?"
"Together, no. Separate, I can handle them. But the real issue is the king. I mean you saw what he can do right?"
"Yes, but I also saw that you could block his attack."
"Given how there are humans in this place, I can now. But that doesn't mean it puts a strain on my body. The king on the other hand can keep using his Noble Phantasm without issues. So unless you know someone that can do the same attack as I do?" Surtr asked as Aizawa's eyes widened upon hearing this. The servant took notice of this as she raised an eyebrow at them. "What's wrong? Did I say something weird?"
"It's nothing," Aizawa said before looking over at Jirou for a moment before looking over at Momo's lifeless body. "Momo, Sato, Tokoyami, Aoyama, Thirteen, and Sero are dead. If All Might was here, then things might be different." He thought before clenching his fist. "To make matters worse, these people fall under the same category as Lily of not having their quirks erased. If this keeps up we'll end up dead before help can come." He thought before closing his eyes for a moment and looking at Surtr. "Say if I do believe that you're willing to help, what do you want in return?"
"I would ask for your assistance in bringing this war to an end, but I doubt you can help."
You're right, I can't. But one of my students can." He said which caught Surtr's attention. "If you can help me save my students, then I'll see if I can get her to help you."
"I'll have to see how she does first before I get her help, but I suppose you have a deal," Surtr said as she noticed magic circuits appearing on Momo's body. "...The hell, I thought you humans didn't have magic."
"What do you mean?" Aizawa asked as he noticed Surtr pointing over at Momo's body. His eyes widened upon seeing this as the magic circuit line continued to spread all over her body. Once her body was covered in magic circuits, a bright light erupted from Momo's body as everyone covered their eyes. Within a matter of seconds, the light began to fade as they heard a voice coming from the room. The moment their vision began to return to them, their eyes widened upon seeing Momo slowly beginning to pull herself up. "...Impossible."
"M-Momo…you're alive!?" Jirou asked as she noticed Momo looking around the room she was in, then looked at herself. From what she could tell, she was wearing a mishmash of different samurai gear on her body and a pair of katanas on the sash around her waist.
"How is that even possible? Jirou said that the villain that did it snapped your neck." Toru said as she looked over at her and Jirou for a moment before looking at Aizawa and Surtr as she pulled herself up from the floor she was on.
"Um, that might be hard to explain. Would you believe that I was saved by someone from another world?" Momo said as Surtr's eyes widened upon hearing what she said.
"...Oh…Now I see. So that's why you're alive." Surtr said as she started laughing. "Wow, I was not expecting a human to be the host of a grand servant."
"What the hell do you mean by that?" Aizawa asked before hearing a new voice enter the room.
"I believe she meant me," Musashi said as she appeared on Momo's shoulder. "Greetings everyone! The name's Miyamoto Musashi~!" She said while waving at them. Aizawa, Jirou, and Toru were staring at the heroic spirit in disbelief, but Surtr was still laughing at how funny the situation was. There was a moment of slightly awkward silence in the room other than Surtr's laughter, but that was soon broken when Iida and Fenrir returned as the young man spoke up.
"We have returned from our scouting around the area. So far there are no skeletons in the area, but we manage to find some bottled water and snacks from the vending machines." Iida said before noticing the awkward tension in the air. He was about to say something but soon noticed Momo was standing up which caused him to drop the bottled water and food he was holding.
"Momo, you're alive!? But how!?" He yelled in a mix of surprise and shock. Momo and Musashi looked at each other for a moment before they both let out a sigh of slight annoyance.
"I suppose you want me to explain what happened to you to them?" Musashi asked as Momo nodded. "I kind of figured as much."
