Chapter Thirty-Nine

Boot Camp

Part Two

While the grand servants were busy trying to survive Gawain's soon-to-be harsh training lesson, the rest of class 1-A weren't doing so well on their end with the other servants training them. While the fairy knights were busy training those with long and short-range students, Surtr and Fenrir were busy training with Todoroki in his control over fire and ice…needless to say, it's not going so well considering Todoroki was adamant about using ice only. For the past two hours, Surtr was getting annoyed at the young man refusing to heed her warning about using ice only on her, and she was about to reach her limit at being patient with him.

"Alright, that's enough," Surtr said as she made her sword disappear. "Honestly this is just a waste of time if I'm being honest."

"I can still fight. Didn't I say that-"

"That's not it idiot. I let you use your ice because you were so damn adamant on it. So I let you do it because to get it over and done with. When I told you to use your flames, you used your ice. I even ordered you to use your fire, but you refused." She said as flames started to come off her body due to her rising anger. "Right now you're pissing me off, and I don't like being pissed off by this lack of disrespect."

"I have my reasons,"

"I don't give a shit about how you're not going to use your flames just because your father sees you as a tool, or how your mother burns your face because of a mental breakdown." She said which took Todoroki by surprise.

"How did you-"

"Certain servants can read people's minds. But that's beside the point. Stop acting like a spoiled brat and start acting like you want to survive and see tomorrow." Surtr said before walking up to Todoroki. "Need I remind you about what happened to your classmates after your failed attempt to defeat a servant with just your ice? Were it not for Mineta, you and the others would be dead, just like your other friends."

"I don't need a reminder of what happened."

"You do if this is how far you'll go just to piss off dear old daddy." She said before moving away from him and summoning up her sword. "Now, I'm going to say this once, and I mean only once. Use your flames, or else you'll be punished. And trust me, you don't want that." Todoroki didn't reply with an answer verbally but replied physically as he fired off a giant wave of ice as it was heading toward the divine spirit. A sigh escaped her lips as she brought her sword up. The sword was soon engulfed in flames as she cut the air in front of her, causing the wave of ice to be cleaved in two with little to no effort. The moment she could see Todoroki in her eyesight, she let out a loud whistle as Fenrir appeared above him, and body-slammed him onto the ground.

"What the hell!?" Todoroki yelled as he tried to use his ice to get Fenrir off of him, but was nullified as the ice was soon absorbed by the giant wolf.

"I wouldn't bother using ice on Fenrir. His skill, Wind of Niflheim allows him to create blizzards and nullify ice base attacks or spells. Now you could use fire on him, but that wouldn't do you much good given how it would take you a month or so for your flames to even reach his fur." She said before walking over to him with a smug expression on her face. "As punishment for not using your flames when ordered to, you'll be stuck underneath Fenrir for the next two hours. That also means you won't be having dinner tonight."

"You can't just do that! Who do you think you are!?"

"I'm Surtr, the Fire Jotunn and King of Muspelheim." She said before pressing her foot against his head. "I'm the ancient giant that brought about the Twilight for the Gods during Ragnarök. I burned everything. Men, women, children, gods, even myself. Do you think I wouldn't kill a brat like you with daddy issues? Well, you'd be wrong. Now, cool off and think about your action, and if you're willing to continue, then we'll continue. If not, then you'll be here until tomorrow. I hope you make the right choice." Having said that, the servant took her foot off his head and walked off to meet up with the others. The moment she left, Todoroki would look up at Fenrir who looked down at him.

"I don't suppose if I ask nicely, would you get off of me?" He asked as the giant wolf hunkered down more upon the young boy. Not enough to prevent him from breathing, but enough so that he can't move his limbs. Todoroki deadpans at the wolf but sighs as he's left alone with his thoughts. While Surtr was making her way over to the other Servants, she paused upon sensing a familiar presence. A smirk appeared on her face as she looked over to her right.

"Relax, I wasn't planning on killing him on the spot. But he needs to learn that this isn't the time for games or personal pride." Surtr said as Aizawa made himself known by moving from behind a nearby tree.

"Are you planning on killing him?" Aizawa asked.

"If he doesn't change within the next couple of hours, then I will." She said, which caused Aizawa to glare at her. "Glare at me all you want, but we already made it clear that we don't have time for stuff like this. Give the other students credit, at least they know what's at stake…well other than Bakugo."

"...Do I even need to ask?" He asked before hearing the sound of explosions and Baobhan Sith laughing in the distance. They soon hear the sound coming closer as they notice Bakugo chasing after Baobhan casually dodges the young man's attacks and attempts to tackle her to the ground.

"Come on little boy, surely that's not all you can do~," Baobhan said before casually dodging Bakugo's haymaker explosion.

"Stop running away you coward! Come and fight me!"

"You'll have to catch, you piece of trash human~," She said before running off with Bakugo tailing after her.

"Given his small ego and short temper, not going so well. But at least he's fighting seriously…in a sense…how the hell did you let a kid like him into your school?"

"Given his performance during the entrance exam, he was accepted into U.A. Prideful as he is, he does at least know that this is a serious matter."

"Yeah, he might live…so long as he keeps his ego and anger in check. But hey, whether he lives or not is not my concern. He'll be useful cannon fodder along with the others."

"You have little to no care for life, do you?"

"It's not like I don't like seeing kids getting killed, but I'm not the type to give up my life for them. All I can do is give them what they need to survive as best as they can. Other than that, that's pretty much it."

"...And you're a heroic spirit?"

"I know, right? But you should know that not every heroic spirit has the same personality as you assume I do." She said before starting to walk off to the school. "For now I'm going on patrol. Why not give that boy a serious talking to and figure out his issues." Aizawa watched as the servant left the area and headed to the school. He let out a sigh of annoyance before looking over at Todoroki, who was still trying to get from underneath Fenrir as the wolf was casually relaxing on him with what he could guess was a smug expression on his face.

"Of all the days for All Might to be late for class, it had to be today." While Aizawa was busy dealing with Todoroki and Fenrir, Britomart was finishing up a training session with the students built for close combat. To say that she was impressed would be an understatement. It's not the fact that they couldn't hold their own in a fight…for the most part. It was their quirks that got her interested. More so with Iida, Midoriya, Toru, and Kirishima given their quirks that can augment their physical abilities ranging from speed, power, invisibility, and defense.

"That will be all for today. You all did an amazing job holding your own against my attacks. Even though I had to hold back for the most part." The fairy knight said, which took Midoriya by surprise.

"You were holding back?" Midoriya asked as the fairy knight nodded.

"Of course. Strong as you all are, you're still children and I'm an adult with years of combat experience. If I were to go all out…well, I don't think you guys have anyone with the ability to repair broken bones or internal organ rupture."

"Yeah, and keep in mind I'm not a licensed medical doctor," Jack said as she appeared behind the group, which caused them to yelp in surprise. "I mean I know a few things medical-wise, but if I don't have the means to treat you, then you're shit out of luck friends."

"Hm, I see. It would make sense given how you're a heroic spirit." Iida said as he noticed Britomart making her weapon disappear.

"Plus I don't want to upset the king if she finds that you guys won't be up to fighting capacity within five days. For now, we'll go over what you all did right and what you did wrong." She said before looking over at Midoriya. "We'll start with Midoriya. I have to say, it is impressive that you're able to increase your physical abilities due to your quirk, but the problem is that your body isn't able to support that much power within you. Were it not for that gemstone that the king gave you, then you'd be a liability to the team. I'm going to assume you never did any sort of training while you were a kid, correct?"

"Y-Yeah…" Midoriya said while looking off to the side in slight shame.

"Don't feel ashamed, you're not the only one who falls under that category given the little sparring match we did. We'll be focusing on building your body up so that you can use your quirk a bit better than just recklessly throwing devastating punches that would knock a hole in a mountaintop or two." She said before looking at Kirishima. "Next is Kirishima, I will say that having a quirk that hardens your skin is quite useful, but that doesn't mean it's reliable as you saw from what I did if I apply more force to my attacks…sorry about that by the way."

"No need to apologize, it wasn't anything serious where it required attention compared to having my arm cut off," Kirishima said as he examined his arm a bit.

"You can't always go into a fight recklessly. That's a surefire way to get yourself killed. Use your head to assess the situation and make reasonable judgments like how Iida performed. I would also suggest wearing armor or magical clothing that protects you…which I believe Artemis and the others should be able to make." She said before looking over at Toru. "Now comes to Toru…I mean invisibility is good and all, but what's the point of it if you have a very strong and scented perfume when you're trying to sneak up on your opponent."

"I knew I forgot something involving that." She said before smelling herself. "I didn't think cucumber melon had a very strong scent."

"When you're sneaking up on someone, never give off your presence under any circumstance. Especially seeing how you're not built for physical combat." The fairy knight said before looking at Iida. "Last is Iida…I honestly don't have much to say. You have impressive speed, well-balanced power in your legs, and good reflexes. Even though Midoriya was the one issuing the plan, you seem to have improvised it once you saw that it wouldn't work. My only complaint would be that you might relax a bit and try not to be so uptight."

"I see, I didn't think I was like that. But it's good to know that you were able to see that. I will try to be a bit more relaxed and not so uptight as you say." Iida said as the fairy knight smiled.

"Good, now while you all are resting up, I'll be checking up on the others to see if they're doing okay," Britomart said as she was about to leave, only to be stopped by Midoriya as he spoke up.

"Wait, before you leave. There's a question that I was hoping you could answer." Midoriya said as the fairy knight looked over at him. "Lily's out of commission for the next three days due to her…ascension, right? Will this happen to the others as well at some point?"

"Hard to say. It might vary between different divine spirits…though something like this would be impossible."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, it would be impossible for a divine spirit to be summoned for the position of Grand Servant. Mainly because the divine spirits must have some kind of involvement with human history. Except for Musashi, having five divine spirits as Grand Servants shouldn't be possible."

"Is there a reason behind it?" Iida asked as Britomart shrugged.

"I honestly don't know. All I know is that The King might be what made it possible for it to happen without her knowing, or there's someone on the planet who did the impossible for this to be possible. If you want to know about how something like that can happen, then Artemis might have more information about this than I do." She said before returning to leave.

"Is there a reason why you asked her about that?" Iida asked as he noticed Midoriya writing in his notebook.

"I wouldn't lie to say I'm a bit interested in how heroic spirits are made and the whole magical stuff being real. But there's something…off about this. Something doesn't add up."

"What do you mean?" Toru asked.

"Lily's the first to become a grand servant, her condition of becoming one was due to her being close to death due to health problems. Next, we have Mina and Mineta, who became grand servants after being in contact with Lily during the training session back at school. Next was Kaminari and his condition was due to being around Lily and his transformation caused him to have a gender change. Last were Uraraka and Yaoyorozu, their conditions were similar to Lily's only that they ended up dying." He said before showing Iida, Toru, and Kirishima his notes which had hand-drawn pictures of the six grand servants along with the servants in the singularity.

"Wow, I knew you were good at taking notes, but I didn't think it was this good," Kirishima said in astonishment.

"So far we have six of the seven heroic classes. Lily represents the Lancer class, Yaoyorozu as the Saber class, Mineta as the Archer class, Uraraka as the Caster class, Mina is the Assassin class, and Kaminari as the Berserker. All these changes happen when they make contact with Lily in some way or form." Midoriya said as Iida spoke up.

"Are you suggesting that someone planned for this to happen?" He asked as Midoriya had a stern expression on his face.

"Hard to say, but if that was the case, then someone would have been around during the time Lily was a kid and set everything up. But they would have to have some kind of foresight quirk or something similar to reading the future…I'll have to look into this a bit more. There are too many things that are missing from this."

"If you are planning on doing some research about this, perhaps talking about it with others might help," Iida suggested as Midoriya nodded in agreement.

"That was the plan… we should keep it to ourselves until we know a bit more about what's going on before assuming anything."

"You sure? Doesn't Lily have the mind-reading ability?" Kirishima asked.

"That's Artoria, and I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be bothered with what we're doing," Toru said before looking over at Midoriya. "Right?"

"It should be an issue seeing how it's nothing that's threatening to Lily along with the others. For now, let's focus on our training before we do anything else, agree?" Midoriya asked as the others nodded. "Alright, I'll see if Artemis is willing to share some information once this training session is over."
