Still May 4th:
The night dragged on, and Jonathan eventually reached Bran castle, just a few hours before midnight. Jonathan got out of the stage coach, and he pulled his luggage out. Without assisting him with his luggage, the driver left.
"Rude." Jonathan exclaimed to himself as he dragged his luggage inside. He looked around the foyer room of the castle, and he saw spider webs and dust about. It was quite obvious that Count Dracula didn't care much about keeping his castle clean.
Yet again, he was planning to move into the Carfax, so there was no point in cleaning up a castle that he plans to leave, at least... maybe that's how he thinks.
"Greetings!" Count Dracula said, startling Jonathan. "You scared me." Jonathan said. "My apologies." Count Dracula said, bowing slightly to Jonathan.
Count Dracula appeared to be a six foot tall, old man with wrinkles adorning his face, and a grey beard, paired with a mustache. His hair was grey and slicked back. He appeared to be suffering from minor hair thinning.
"Well, my name is Jonathan Harker, nice to meet you, Count." Jonathan said, holding out his hand for a handshake. Dracula smiled cordially and shook Jonathan's hand. "Please, just call me Dracula." Dracula requested.
"Why of course." Jonathan agreed before Dracula helped him carry his luggage upstairs to his room. They entered a rather large bedroom on the fourth floor of the castle. "Please, make yourself at home." Dracula requested before walking to the door.
"We will talk over dinner. I am sure you are famished." Dracula, his voice raspy and frail sounding. He left he room and shut the door behind himself, the noise echoing through the bedroom.
Jonathan looked around the room and sat on the bed. He grabbed his journal and began writing down another entry. "Finally, I have arrived. My client is older than I expected, but that's not important. All that matters is securing the deal."
Jonathan closed his journal before putting it on his night-stand. He went downstairs and looked around before finding the dining room, where Dracula was sitting on the opposite side of the table from where Jonathan's food was set.
Jonathan sat down and looked at Dracula, who had no food for himself. "Don't you want dinner as well?" Jonathan asked. "I have already eaten." Dracula said. "Okay." Jonathan said.
Then, Jonathan noticed the dish that he was eating, which included Sarmale. Sarmale was a Romanian dish that Ada enjoyed making for them. The dish was normally supposed to be eaten with a type of garlic sauce, but it was absent here, which was quite peculiar.
Dracula pulled out a note from his suit pocket. "Your boss, Mr. Hawkins, sent me a letter detailing that you are the one he has sent to sell the property to me." Dracula said. "Ah yes, the Carfax Abbey." Jonathan said before pulling a photograph of the monastery out of his suit pocket.
He handed the photo to Dracula and Dracula examined it. "Simply beautiful. I believe this will make a perfect new home for me, and my mistresses." Dracula said. "You have mistresses?" Jonathan asked, appearing somewhat surprised.
"Why yes, you might see them around, but I doubt it." Dracula said before getting up and walking by Jonathan, before stopping and placing his hand on Jonathan's shoulder.
"However, if you do run into them, beware of their more... sexual advances." Dracula warned before leaving. The advice was unnerving, to say the least. Jonathan eventually finished his dinner and went up to his room.
Jonathan had also noticed Dracula's sharp teeth, and his crimson red lips. The teeth were almost like fangs. What human has fangs?
Jonathan began writing another entry in his journal. "So apparently, my client has mistresses, and he has warned me of attempts at sexual advancements they might make. I'll try my best to avoid their attempts, for Mina.
May 7th:
A few days had passed by, and Dracula had yet to engage in further conversation with Jonathan on the subject of the real estate deal. In fact, Jonathan never saw Dracula during the day, and he rarely saw him at night. Sometimes, when he did see Dracula, he appeared slightly more youthful than before.
Sometimes, Dracula even appeared to have black hairs in his beard. Jonathan walked around the castle in the morning. The sun was rising, and as per usual, Dracula was nowhere to be seen. Jonathan had yet to ask Dracula about local superstitions, but Jonathan was more suspicious of Dracula himself.
Jonathan entered the dining room, where breakfast was already set out for him. But who had set it out? Dracula was never around during the day, Jonathan had yet to meet his mistresses, and there were no servants.
Jonathan tried to ignore his suspicions and just sat down to eat. Eventually, he finished and got up to explore the castle. He hadn't explored beyond the lounge, the dining area, his room, and the bathroom.
He figured it was finally time to see what else this castle had in store. He walked around, admiring the many displays of wealth. Expensive rugs, fine paintings all a clear show of how much money the Count had.
Eventually, he returned to his room, and began to write another entry in his journal. "The client is never around during the day, and I rarely see him at night. When I do, he constantly directs the conversations we have away from discussion of the Carfax, constantly saying that he will not discuss the property further until further preparations are made for the trip to England."
Later that day:
It was now nighttime. Jonathan was browsing the literature in Dracula's library, which included Niccolo Machiavelli's "The Prince." Then, Dracula entered the room. "Dracula, I didn't think I'd see you today." Jonathan said.
"I have returned from my nighttime outing, and a letter has been sent, telling me that transport teams will arrive soon, and I have sorted out what ship will be taking me to Whitby. I'd like to hear more about this Monastery." Dracula explained.
"Very well then, come sit." Jonathan requested before sitting down in an old, cushy chair, and Dracula sat across from him.
"Okay, I don't see why exactly you would wish to live in the Carfax. It's a rundown Catholic monastery that hasn't been active since the 16th century. There are bathrooms, yes, but no bedrooms."
"That will be no concern to me. I will be converting the Abbey's basement into a living area for myself, and my mistresses." Dracula said before getting up and walking towards the door. "Wait! Don't you wish to talk more?" Jonathan asked.
"Ah, my apologies. I must excuse myself." Dracula said before leaving. Jonathan looked at the clock, noticing that it was 7:30 AM, and the sun would be rising now. He looked out the window, and watched as the rising sun casted a soft glow upon the trees, adorning the mountain side.
It was now May 8th:
Later that day: Jonathan sat down in his room shortly after lunch, and he began to record another entry in his journal. "I promise to record the facts, and only the facts. No imagination here. I still fail to understand why the client would want to live in a centuries old monastery, but he claimed to be planning to live in the abbey's basement." Jonathan wrote.
Later that day:
It was now dusk. The sun was slowly setting, and nighttime was approaching. The light no longer shined through Jonathan's bathroom window. He took a portable mirror from one of his bags, and he attached it to the wall, directly above the sink.
He proceeded to pull a small wooden box from another one of his bags, and he opened it up, pulling out a straight razor. He set the box on the sink, and began carefully cutting the hair off of his face.
Unlike most men of the time, Jonathan wasn't all too fond of facial hair, especially not mustaches. Then, Dracula barged in, startling Jonathan. Jonathan accidentally cut his cheek, and blood dripped out. "Ow!" he shouted in pain before looking up at Dracula.
"What do you want now?!" Jonathan asked, clearly frustrated with Dracula at the moment. Of all the times to jumpscare him, it was when he had a razor held up to his face.
Dracula didn't answer his question, and instead stared intensely at the blood, before lunging at Jonathan, grabbing him by the neck, only to pull back when he noticed the cross on the rosary Jonathan was wearing.
"Apologies... I don't feel perfectly like myself right now." Dracula apologized before looking at the cut. "You really shouldn't cut yourself in Transylvania, it's dangerous." Dracula said. Jonathan noticed that Dracula didn't have a reflection in the mirror, and Dracula promptly threw the mirror out the window.
"No mirrors will be present in this castle." Dracula said. "However, if you allow... I can shave your face for you." Dracula offered. Jonathan didn't want to say yes, but he was too afraid to say no. "S-s-sure." Jonathan stuttered, holding out his straight razor for Dracula to use.
Dracula takes the straight razor, and begins giving Jonathan a very close face, and Jonathan tenses up, worrying that he is about to get his throat sliced. Eventually, Dracula finished, almost cutting Jonathan's throat, before placing the straight razor back in the wooden box, and closing it.
"Now if you excuse me... I must head out for the night." Dracula said before leaving the room. Jonathan placed his hand on his chest, feeling his thumping heart beat before leaving the bathroom.
Later that night:
Jonathan left the castle, wandering around the forest on the mountain. There was an old hiking trail. Jonathan walked down the trail, looking to explore what lied deep within the forest. Eventually, he found the end of the trail.
He looked around before hearing a growling noise. He turned to see a dark-furred wolf with red, glowing eyes. The wolf began barking at him, and Jonathan quickly began running back down the trail.
The wolf gave chase, and Jonathan ran off trail into the woods, trying not to trip on the difficult terrain. Eventually, he jumped behind a fallen tree. He had brought a canteen of water with himself for the walk so that he wouldn't grow thirsty, but now he had a new usage for it.
He quickly poured the water all over himself to mask his scent, before lying down. The wolf walked up to the tree and sniffed around, before howling and running away. Once it was gone, Jonathan got up and urgently ran back to the castle.
Once he arrived back at the castle, he entered the courtyard, where was greeted by an angered Dracula. "Where were you?!" Dracula asked. "I just went for a walk!" Jonathan answered. "Those forest are dangerous! You mustn't leave without company." Dracula said before going back inside.
Later: Jonathan sat in his room, recording another entry in his journal. "I fear that Dracula may be mentally unstable, and I do not believe I am a guest in this castle, but rather a prisoner." Jonathan wrote before lying down in bed.
As he slept, he was met with a strange dream. He woke up in his home back in London. He wandered around for a bit. "Mina! Where are, darling?!" he hollered.
The house was dark, and the lights wouldn't turn on. He stood by a dark doorway, before hearing heavy breathing. He turned to look into the doorway, and he saw the faint silhouette of Mina.
"Mina, i-is that you?" he asked before she rushed out at him, blood dripping from her mouth as she attempted to bite his neck. He shoved her away before rushing out the back door, only to trip and be met with Ada's brutalized corpse.
Her head was disconnected from her body, there was a gash in her stomach, and it appeared as if her pelvis had shattered into her intestines. Jonathan then noticed that he was lying in a pool of blood.
He tried getting up, only to be grabbed by Mina, who bit his neck and began sucking the blood out. "Ahhhh!" Jonathan screamed in pain, and fear as he began seeing visions of the creature from his previous nightmares, and the feeling of Mina biting his neck.
Suddenly, he woke up in bed, his heart thumping loudly in his chest, his hair disheveled. He panted loudly before lying back down in bed. That was the worst nightmare he ever had. A large sense of dread began creeping over Jonathan as he wondered whether of not he would survive this stay.
A/N: And that's the end of chapter 2! I hope you enjoyed it. Chapter 3 should be out sometime this week. I hope you guys enjoy what I'm doing here.
