Harker got up from bed and began roaming around the castle. He checked every single door, and every single window that he could in hopes of finding a way out of the castle, but everything was locked, and if he broke a window, the noise would echo and alert Dracula to his escape.
Then, he stopped in his tracks and began taking deep breaths. "Calm down Jonathan. You can't let Dracula see your fear. Just be patient, and you'll get out." Jonathan said to himself.
He continued wandering around, before peeking into the room. It was like a study. He saw Dracula inside, and he quietly snuck away. He began wondering if Dracula was also the stage coach driver, and the wolf, which would explain the red eyes that both of them had, indicating that they weren't normal beings.
Between the lack of garlic in the Sarmale, the way the locals were acting, and the rosary given to him, Jonathan began to realize something. It seemed as though Dracula was really one of the Romanian superstitions that Ada had told him of before.
Dracula was a Strigoi (Romanian word for Vampire.) Then, Jonathan had an idea. He returned to the study, and he went inside. "Dracula... may I ask you a question, a more... personal question?" Jonathan asked.
"Of course you can ask." Dracula answered. "Well... I would love to know about your past. You appear to be quite wealthy, and I was wondering if you're really a count." Jonathan said.
"Yes, I was once a noble, a count to be exact. But sadly, I have since.. lost my title, and the majority of my territory." Dracula answered. "The majority?" Jonathan asked. "Yes, the majority. You see... Transylvania remains quite afraid of my presence." Dracula said before getting up and walking towards the door.
"And I plan to rule again." he said before leaving the study. All of this seemed wrong to Jonathan. If Dracula was really a strigoi, then him becoming a ruler would be extremely dangerous. Jonathan had to find a way to warn people, but how?
May 12th:
Jonathan and Dracula were both in the study. Jonathan sat down at the table, pen in hand with a paper lied out in front of him. Dracula paced back and forth in front of him, leaning down slightly, his hands clasped behind his back.
"Now... I want you to write a letter to your boss. What was his name... Mr. Hawkins, was it?" Dracula asked. "Yes." Jonathan answered. "Write a letter to him, telling him that you shall be staying for another month." Dracula ordered. "What?! Why?!" Jonathan asked.
"Who knows, I might need you as preparations for my voyage are made." Dracula answered. "V-very well then." Jonathan asked, a tinge of nervousness in his voice as he began writing the letter. Jonathan finished the letter, and once Dracula left the room, he began writing a secret letter to Mina in shorthand as a distress call.
The letter essentially read, "Dear Mina, I have reason to believe that my client might be a Strigoi. I know it sounds far-fetched, but I'm not lying. You need to find a way to save me." He proceeded to tuck the letters away before leaving the study.
He didn't want Dracula to find the secret letter, and he wanted to wait as long as possible to send out the letter to Mr. Hawkins.
He returned to his room, and he hung the rosary over his bed, since it seemed to have scared Dracula before. However, he wasn't prepared to sleep yet. He still wanted to try and discover more secrets in the castle, and maybe even a way out.
He began wandering around the castle, before staring out a window, only to be met with the sight of a a grey, monstrous, frail looking creature crawling down the wall like a lizard. He stumbled back in horror, assuming that what he had just saw was Dracula, before rushing back to his room.
Later that night: As Jonathan slept, the monster (Dracula) creeped into his room through a window. He creeped towards Jonathan's bed, before crawling onto the bed, lying down on top of Jonathan, smiling sadistically as he played with Jonathan's hair.
He then ran one of his sharp claws down Jonathan's chest, before licking his face. "You taste so good." Dracula said in a low, guttural voice. He sat up a bit, and noticed the cross, which scared him off. He quickly jumped off of Jonathan and rushed out the window.
Jonathan woke up and looked around the room. He noticed the open window, the wind blowing the curtains away from the window as he saw Dracula crawling up the walls, and away from the window.
Jonathan got up and closed the window. At least the rosary protected him. "What have I gotten myself into?" he asked himself before sitting back down in bed. He wasn't going to sleep for the rest of the night after that incident.
May 15th: Jonathan sat on his bed, recording yet another entry in his journal, which essentially read, "A monster that I believe to be Dracula keeps creeping around the castle exterior every night. I must get to the bottom of this." he wrote before putting his journal away and leaving the room.
He searched around the castle for a key to the great door, which lead out to the courtyard, but he couldn't find anything. Eventually, he entered Dracula's study. He searched every nook and cranny of the room, but found nothing.
May 16th:
Jonathan searched tirelessly yet again, but found nothing yet again. He walked through one of the castle's older corridors, before plopping down on an old, dusty couch.
He looked up at the ceiling, and he slowly closed his eyes and fell asleep. Eventually, he woke up to see three women, all wearing corsets. There was a woman with brown hair, a woman with black hair, and a woman with blonde hair.
They giggled before the blonde one leaned over Jonathan, and inched closer to him. Jonathan was a faithful man, but for some reason, he seemed oddly tempted by her full, soft, crimson red lips, ignoring her sharp fangs. The two shared a sultry kiss.
Then, the blonde woman inched down, her teeth about to meet Jonathan's neck. She licked her lips, and prepared to bite him, only for Dracula to show up, shoving her away from Jonathan. She looked furious at Dracula. "Leave, and take this with you!" Dracula said before handing a bag to the women.
What sounded like the choked cry of a small child, or maybe even a baby came from the bag. The three women giggled at the sound before fading into mist, frightening Jonathan to the point of fainting.
Dracula lifted Jonathan up, and carried him back to his room, before lying him down in bed. He smelled Jonathan's neck for a second. He could pick up the odor of blood from within Jonathan's neck.
Later that night:
Jonathan tossed and turned in his sleep, he was having another nightmare. In the dream, he was running down the halls of the castle, and he even escaped into the court yard.
But then, a bat/gargoyle like beast with lizard liked scales swooped down and picked him up, before throwing him through a window, landing, and charging towards him. The beast then bit Jonathan's neck, sucking the blood out as the mistresses appeared, and shared in the feast.
A/N: Yeah, not as much happens in this chapter, and there was much less for me to change or add, so I did what I could and didn't stretch it out. Chapter four should have the second major change to the plot (the first being the introduction of Ada as a character. Don't worry, none of the chapters will be below one thousand words long. I've been working on chapters 2, 3, and 4 at the same time, and I'm gonna work on finishing and releasing chapter four later tonight, or tomorrow morning.
