The city was still smoldering.
Skyscrapers bore gaping holes, streets were torn apart, and the wreckage of a colossal battle lay scattered like forgotten toys. The enemy was defeated, the Power Rangers victorious—again. Civilians cheered their heroes as they disappeared into the horizon. But as the dust settled, a different kind of team prepared to go to work.
"Alright, team," called out Elias Carter, the Green Ranger and leader of Operation Reset. "You know the drill. We've got infrastructure to patch up, energy residue to contain, and someone's got to find where that Megazord leg landed."
"Already tracking it," said Nova Lin, the Orange Ranger, tapping away on her wrist-mounted scanner. "I'd say it's about four blocks south, embedded in an office building. That's gonna be fun."
"Better than the last time," quipped Reina Vasquez, the Purple Ranger, as she adjusted her gloves. "Remember when a whole monster skull was left in the river? Took us three weeks to break that thing down."
"I thought it made a nice tourist attraction," Skye Monroe, the White Ranger, said with a smirk as she slung a toolkit over her shoulder. "But, you know, whatever."
"I just hope we don't find any residual sludge this time," groaned "Kiui" Kanade Tanaka, the Lime Ranger, bouncing on her feet. "The last stuff turned my suit neon pink for a week. Neon. Pink. Do you know how hard it is to be funny when you're glowing?"
The team's comms crackled as their mentor AI, DAX-3, spoke up. "Initial scans indicate trace amounts of monster essence still present in the area. Caution is advised."
"Understood, Dax," Elias responded. "Patch in Junker for heavy lifting."
With a metallic whirr, their robotic companion, Junker, rolled forward. A hulking, modified waste-disposal bot, Junker was equipped with clawed arms, a compacting unit, and a gruff, pre-programmed personality. "Yeah, yeah, I got it. Let's scoop up the trash before it gets funky."
The team spread out, each member tackling a different aspect of cleanup. Nova set up containment barriers around unstable structures while Reina and Skye worked on clearing debris. Elias directed efforts and ensured their energy scanners didn't pick up any nasty surprises, while Kiui, despite her usual antics, did an impressive job neutralizing lingering energy traces.
But as Junker moved a slab of collapsed asphalt, something pulsed beneath the rubble.
"Uh… Elias?" Kiui called, her voice suddenly serious. "We might have a problem."
The team turned toward the ominous, glowing crack in the pavement. Residual energy—far stronger than usual—hummed beneath their feet.
Elias frowned. "Dax, analysis?"
"Unstable remnant detected. Potential regeneration of enemy entity."
Silence fell over the team before Skye broke it with a sigh. "Welp. Looks like we're not clocking out early."
Elias cracked his knuckles. "Alright, Operation Reset. Let's take care of this mess."
Nova adjusted her scanner and took a step back. "This is different from the usual post-battle junk. I'm reading energy signatures that don't match the monster we just cleaned up."
Reina knelt down, touching the edge of the crack. A sudden jolt of energy shot up her arm, and she recoiled. "Okay, definitely not normal."
Junker extended one of his clawed arms toward the opening. "Want me to scoop it out?"
"Hold up," Elias cautioned. "Let's not poke the bear until we know what we're dealing with." He turned to Dax. "Can we contain it?"
Dax's voice came through with a note of hesitation. "Unknown. This anomaly does not match previous residual readings. Proceed with extreme caution."
"Great," Kiui muttered. "We finally find something cool, and it's dangerous. Figures."
Elias took a deep breath. "Alright, everyone. Defensive formation. Skye, set up a barrier. Nova, keep scanning. Reina, be ready with a dampener charge. Kiui—"
"I know, I know," she interrupted. "Be awesome and hilarious while also being super competent."
"Just be ready," Elias said with a smirk.
As Skye activated a portable containment field, the energy pulse within the crack intensified. The ground trembled slightly, and a low, guttural noise—almost a growl—echoed from below.
"That's new," Reina said, shifting her stance.
The crack widened, and a tendril of violet energy slithered up from the depths, coiling like a serpent. It lashed out, striking the containment field and sending sparks flying.
"Dax?!" Elias barked.
"Immediate threat detected. Energy source is mutating," Dax confirmed. "Recommend neutralization before escalation."
Skye clenched her fists. "Well, guess there's only one way this is ending."
Elias nodded. "Let's shut this thing down before it becomes a problem."
