"So, I have a choice between being married to you or being dead. Interesting choice."

"I realize this may be difficult for you. You are a member of a powerful, star travelling race, while we must seem to be…nothing to you. I know nothing of human aesthetics. I would hope that I would not be considered aesthetically unpleasing to you. I realize…"

"Whoa. Just wait a sec, T'Pol. You're gorgeous. I hafta say I've never met a human woman more beautiful than you are. In fact, I kinda find your pointy ears. Really sexy."

"I am pleased that you feel that way about my looks. However, there is more to being wed than aesthetics."

"I realize that and I'm willing to give it a go if you are. I kinda like it here and I really like you."

"I think we should mate, then. I believe my bed would be more comfortable."

"Now? I mean, shouldn't we get to know each other first?"

"That is not necessary. Vulcan marriages are arranged by their parents very early in the lives of the children." She stopped and looked at him. "If you feel I cannot satisfy you, I will do my very best…"

"That's not it. It's just that I'm a human and my ways are different. But this is Vulcan, and I guess…"

"Good. Then it's settled. We'll go to my bedroom."

Trip followed T'Pol to her bedroom. It was large but sparsely furnished. The bed was large and there was a table and lamp by it. There were two doorways, one of which Trip thought must lead to a bathroom and one was probably a closet.

T'Pol took off her robe. Under that was a white slip and under that were a pair of panties. She wore no bra and didn't need one. Her breasts were large and firm and didn't sag a bit. She lay down on the bed.

"Do you need assistance undressing?" She asked when she saw Trip was just standing there.

"No. No. I'm just amazed at your beauty."

Trip undressed as rapidly as he could and joined T'Pol on the bed.

He put his arms around her and kissed her.

"What are you doing?" She asked, pulling away.

'It's called kissing. Don't Vulcans kiss?"

"No."

"Is it unpleasant?"

She thought for a moment.

"No. It's pleasant. But what is the purpose of kissing?"

"It's part of what humans call foreplay. It gives pleasure to both partners. Let me guess. Vulcans don't have foreplay."

"We don't. The male simply gets on top, inserts himself, ejaculates and that is all."

"That's it?"

"Isn't that sufficient?"

"Not by a mile, darlin'."

Trip began kissing her again and opened his mouth. She got the idea and opened hers. Soon each of their tongues were moving against the other.

Trip moved his hand to her right breast and began stroking it. He could hear T'Pol moan. He began stroking her nipple which he found to be slightly greenish. The nipple soon became engorged, and he found himself switching from one nipple to the other. Then he began kissing down her throat and then on to her breasts. He kissed, licked and sucked on each one while kneading the other with his hand.

T'Pol was breathing hard, and she was beginning to rock herself up and down on the bed. He smiled and began kissing down her flat, muscular stomach, stopping to kiss her outie navel. He saw that she had spread her legs as far as she could, while still bouncing up and down on the bed. Finally, he had his head between her legs.

"I sure hope you're built down here the same as human women, darlin'."

T'Pol just moaned.

He began kissing and licking her which increased both her moaning and her bouncing up and down. Trip thought he might just get tossed off the bed. She grabbed his hair and began to pull him up

"Damn, you're strong, darlin'."

She said something in Vulcan that the translator didn't get.

She was hot and wet when he entered her. He found that he fit into her nicely. He tried to take it nice and slow, but she kept bouncing up and down and pulling him to her.

"I'm not gonna hold out much longer, baby." He cried. And then he exploded into her.

He rolled off of her and pulled her close.

"You okay, T'Pol?"

"What did you do to me?"

"Back home we call that making love. Did I do something wrong?"

"Wrong? By Surak no. The married ladies have explained to me what happens when a couple mate, but what they described was nothing like that. It was extremely pleasant. More pleasant than I had imagined."

"Wait one. The married ladies explained sex to you? Does that mean…"

He looked down and saw green blood on her thighs and on him.

"You were a virgin?"

"Yes. Was I not performing correctly? I can improve if that's…"

"You were perfect. But if I'd known, I would have been gentler. I don't want to ever hurt you."

"Do not worry. The momentary pain was more than worth it."

They lay together for an hour, just enjoying the afterglow.

"There is something I must tell you. It is very important."

"What?"

"I told you that our marriages are arranged by our parents. I was betrothed to a man named Koss when I was very young, but now you and I are mated. I cannot wed Koss."

"Too bad for him?"

"For you. Koss will feel aggrieved and demand a kal-if-fee, a duel to the death for me."

"What kind of duel?"

"Hand to hand combat. You will be unable to use your Earth weapons."

"I'm pretty good in a fight."

"Vulcans are far stronger than humans."

"Really?" Trip said with a grin.

"Really. Take my hand and try to pull me to your edge of the bed."

He took her hand and quickly found himself on the floor with T'Pol on top of him and her hands around his throat, pressing lightly.

"You'll die if you fight Koss. You must flee. He cannot marry me as long as we are bonded, and he can't wait here forever."

"One problem. The slavers know I'm here and since one of them got away, they'll be back, and soon. I won't stand a chance out in the desert by myself. I'd rather fight one man, hand to hand, than a bunch of armed slavers."

"I will try to convince Koss to call off the marriage, but I fear he'll never agree."

Trip found he liked being married to T'Pol. The day after their first love making, she took him to her favorite place. It turned out to be the library.

"We have over thirty thousand books here, Trip, dating back to the days before fire fell from the sky. They were printed on something that we can no longer make that has lasted for nearly two thousand years. I have learned much, but there is much I don't understand. Can you help me?" She held out a book to him that was written in Vulcan. "It's about something called a warp drive, but it has words in it that we no longer know the meaning of."

"If you can read the books to me, I can probably puzzle out the words you don't know from the context. How many of these books have you read?"

"Not many. Only about five thousand."

"Let's get started then."

Trip quickly discovered that T'Pol was quite well educated, even if her education was sort of hit and miss. He managed to translate the book on warp theory and was surprised at how quickly she picked up the very complex information.

"You're a genius, darlin'. You'll probably turn T'Okar into the first space going city on Vulcan."

"We'll turn T'Okar into the first space going city on Vulcan."

Neither one mentioned that Trip would have to survive a fight to the death first.

Trip began researching Vulcan fighting tactics and found there were none. True to their pacifist upbringing, they only fought in kal-if-fees, and even they were rare. From what Trip could tell Vulcan males simply stood toe to toe and battered each other. He also studied the rules for kal-if-fees, which involved a lot of ceremony at the beginning, but not much else. He did find some things that he hoped would help him. For one, Trip had been in many barroom brawls and knew all the tricks of fighting dirty. He hoped that would be enough.

More than a month had passed when a young by ran into the village and announced a large caravan was approaching. It could only be Koss and his family, and it was.

T'Pol and her council dressed in their very best to welcome Koss and his family. T'Pol sat with her council in the main building with Trip sitting next to T'Pol.

"We greet T'Pol, First Mother of the clan of T'Okar." Announced Koss' father, a large man named Kaar. "I have brought my son so that the two of you may be wed as agreed between myself and your late parents. We do this before your clan and my family…" He glanced at Trip, and added…" And your off-world guest."

Koss then stepped forward and went through a long and flowery speech telling T'Pol how much he desired to wed her.

Now it was time for T'Pol to make a speech in return telling Koss how pleasant she found marriage to him to be. That didn't go as tradition demanded.

"Koss. I regret that I will be unable to wed you. Neither I nor my councilors can explain it, I find that I have formed a mating bond with the human, Trip, also known as the Healer."

There was a moment of shocked silence from both parties. No one outside T'Pol's councilors and a few trusted servants knew of the bond between Trip and T'Pol. Then there was pandemonium.

Everybody was screaming at once. It seemed that the control of their emotions that Vulcans so prized had vanished. But much sooner than would be the case with humans, everyone settled down.

"This is not possible." Koss said. "A bond between humans and Vulcans is not possible. There is a mistake somewhere."

"There is no mistake." T'Pol said. "There is a bond, and we cannot be married."

"I melded with T'Pol myself." T'Pre said. "If you wish to check for yourselves, please do so."

"That will not be necessary." Kaar said. "My son invokes the right of kal-if-fee. Once the human is dead, there will be no bond and the wedding can proceed."

"Koss must speak for himself." Soval said.

"I will fight the human. I challenge him to kal-if-fee."

"It will take two days for the appropriate ceremonies. Will that be acceptable?" Soval asked.

"Yes." Said Koss.

Trip just nodded.

The day before the fight, Trip checked out the area where the fight would be held. It was a large open, rocky space in front of T'Okar's main building. It had been swept repeatedly so that no sand or small stones could interfere with the fighters' footwork. The spectators, which meant everyone in T'Okar would sit or stand in front of the main building. Between them and the fighters was the so-called Great Pool. T'Okar sat on top of a vast aquifer that had supplied water to the town for centuries. The Great Pool was some ten feet across and perhaps three feet deep.

On the morning of the fight, Trip dressed in a pair of tight running shorts that would give Koss no purchase. The only other thing he wore were a pair of steel toed work shoes. He had had his body covered with oil and behind his belt buckle he had a small lead bar wrapped in tan leather. If he had to use it, he hoped no one would get a good look at it.
