I feel her warm hand on my own and look at the pale skin of her hands. She only does this when something is wrong and I'm going to have to get my hands dirty.
"What's wrong?" I asked her, but she didn't answer, her blue eyes were locked on my own, and bits of her long red hair fell to the side of her head, covering the sides of her face.
"I can't tell you here, the red house has ways of making those that can hear without ears and see without eyes from listening to us." she says to me, I feel her hand tighten on my own.
The Red House. People would call it a brothel if it wasn't for the fact that every woman in it is a nun who loves sleeping with men and sees pregnancy as the greatest of honors.
I can still remember the day that they brought dozens of male babies to the council room, asking if the council would take the unfortunate in or if they should leave the men outside so they could return to the gods.
Before I knew it, I felt her hand on my neck as she helped me put my armor back on. I didn't know that I had taken it off, but then I remembered that I hadn't, so why hadn't I been wearing it?
I turn to ask her if she removed my armor, but I stop when I see her long legs as she ties the laces of her bots. She looks up and smirks at me again, and I notice that my mouth is open.
She slams her boot on the stone floor, before taking her gun and my power sword. She walks towards me, her his swaying with every step, and before I know it, she shoves my sword into my chest.
"Come we have work, and you never do anything anyway." I hear her say to me as she opens the door and walks out of my house.
I look at the open door wondering if she is real or if she is just another thing that I imagined. Something, no someone that I created so that I'm not alone in this world anymore.
I chase away those thoughts and follow her out the door. I can see the mist from my breath as I exhale, but the temperature is rising, and soon it's going to be impossible to be outside unless I'm under some shade.
I watch as the people move some are opening their shops, others are going to work, while some are simply getting ready for the rest of the day.
The sound of people arguing reaches me and when I turn to see what's happening, I see a group of men arguing with a few members of the guards.
I learned to control my senses while being in this world, so I don't have to close my eyes to listen to what the men are saying and I can't help but frown. The men are arguing that the cities should be opened to the other gods, not just the ones that are already present and that the people deserve to know about the ones they worship.
I stop walking and turn to look at them, it's only when they notice me standing alone that they stop shouting and fall silent.
A hand touches my hand and I feel someone pull me away. "Let the guard handle it, that's what they're for." she says to me as she pulls me away.
I nearly trip when I realize that my other hand was unsheathing the sword that I haven't tied to my waist. What was I about to do?
"They're vultures that go from one village and town to another. They claim that their gods are superior, but they never make any towns of their own they just take over those that already exist." she says to them her voice shaking with anger.
"They are becoming a problem." I say to her and for some reason, she stops walking and pulls me towards her.
'Don't do it." she orders me, before repeating her words over and over again.
"Don't kill them, don't do it.' she looks at me her eyes are full of tears, but her expression is nothing but rage. "They send worms to cause problems and when the guards finally react they come back in huge numbers, until the rulers finally give in to their demands."
I try to say something but her fist forces me to keep my mouth shut.
"People talk, and they say that you don't deserve to be here." Shut up!" she yells at me when I try to say something again. "They say that this land is protected by the gods, that you don't deserve it and that, and that and that." she finally breaks down crying.
What the hell is going on, she has never cried. 've known her long enough to know that she doesn't cry or at least she doesn't cry like this, she just makes an angry expression as her tears fall.
The sun is high now, thankfully I can make my cape come out of my armor when I need it, so I use it to keep the sun away from us. Neither of us says anything as we make the long trip through the bridge and into Star City.
Star City might as well be in another country because the familiar smell of the sea and the stench of fish are gone. I can still hear the fish moving in the pools, but the sound of birds singing and flying are everywhere.
The people start walking and stare as we walk past them, some murmur to themselves, and a few women giggle when the guard who is with me puts her hat on and uses it to hide her face.
We finally arrived at the Red House and I could already smell the perfumes that the women used. I look at my partner who tightens her grip on my hand before she pushes the door open and leads me inside.
The nuns who are busy cleaning or serving the men who spent the night look at me with hungry eyes, but the guard shouts that I'm with her and that we have business in the back.
'Don't look at them!" she yells at me as we walk past the half-naked nuns who smirk at me. I stop walking when I feel my cheek sting, and when I look down I find her glaring at me.
"Did you slap me?" I ask her but she does not say anything she just pulls me toward the back of the house, we move faster than before until the smell of perfume is gone and the smell of baby powder is all there is.
