Chapter 1
The Entrance Exam
A year later, I was standing in front of the massive hero building known as UA. I was mesmerized by how much glass there was. I walked up to it, having a calm expression on my face. I came up to a boy that seemed familiar, but I didn't have a chance to process it before he tripped.
I reacted quickly, grabbing the back of his backpack. "Woah, there," I laughed, pulling him up. He turned around. "Don't want to fall on day zero, do you?"
"Ah, right!" he stumbled out. He squinted his eyes at me. "Do I…know you?"
I shrugged. "Maybe. I don't know." I chuckled softly. "I have ADD and experience tons of memory loss."
"O-oh. Sure, that, uh, makes sense. What's-"
"I'm sorry, but I'm going to be late for the entrance exam. Good luck!" I ran past the boy as I racked my memory for anything that could place his name.
D*mn. I could've just asked for his name, right then and there, but that would've been awkward. He would've thought I was hitting on him or something.
I ignored it and went straight to the auditorium, where I watched Mic give the speech about what to expect for today's entrance exam.
Mumbling Boy from earlier got called out by another boy with glasses for continuing to mumble during the speech. When Mic said that there would be different times for the exams, I checked my card. I was first up.
I took a deep breath and followed the large crowd of future students to the road to see two buses waiting for us. Tons of students started crowding into the first one, including the mumbling boy.
Instead of getting claustrophobic, I decided to go to the second bus. Before I could get in, however, someone pulled me aside and into a hug.
"You can do this, kid," Mic said, Aizawa standing right behind him. "Just give it your all!"
"Plus Ultra," Aizawa agreed.
I hugged Mic back before finally getting on the bus. It wasn't as crampacked as the first bus, but there were still a fair amount of students inside. It was about a twenty minute drive before we reached the exam area.
I moved my way past the large crowd and started looking around for Mumbling Boy, but was upset when I couldn't find him. I wanted to apologize for running off when he was in mid sentence.
Mic's voice came through the speaker, signaling that it was time to start. I pushed my way towards the front of the crowd and got ready to run.
Mic started counting down. When he shouted 'GO!', everyone bolted into the exam course to take care of the robots we were meant to defeat. I was towards the front of the fastest, but I wasn't surprised when Glasses charged ahead with jet boosters on his legs.
Finally, I had found my first set of robots; Two threes and a two. Taking them all out would get me eight points, a great head start.
I charged up my Quirk up to a White Wave explosion and fired at the three robots, taking them down instantly. I sighed, cooling down before continuing to run.
At one point, I turned a corner and bumped into Mumbling Boy, but since it was the heat of the moment, we didn't stop for a chat.
After almost twenty minutes, I had racked up seventy points.
Oh, sh*t! I realized I had lost count. Was it seventy, or was it only sixty? Sh*t!
"DIE!"
I turned around and saw a spiky haired boy destroy another three pointer robot. We both faced each other before hearing another three pointer.
We started running after it, desperate to get into first. I charged up a Blue Wave explosion and launched myself at the robot far ahead of the other explosion boy.
I slammed my hand against the head and fired another Blue Wave explosion, destroying it and getting me another three points.
I landed on the ground hard, not noticing the pain in my sprained ankle. I looked up at Spiky to see him looking at me with so much hatred that I thought he would explode.
Actually, maybe that was his Quirk. Self Destruct.
It didn't matter. Time was of the essence, and I was almost out.
I started running around, trying to find more robots when I heard someone scream for help. I turned towards their direction and froze.
A zero pointer robot was coming this way, with a girl stuck under the rubble.
I was about to run when Mumbling Boy jumped high into the air, brought his hand back, and destroyed the zero pointer robot. By the time that had happened, Rubble Girl had managed to make the rock she was stuck under float with her on top of it.
As Mumbling Boy came back down, she slapped him across the face, slowing his descent.
"And…" she breathed, pressing her fingers together. "...release."
Mumbling Boy fell to the ground as the rest of us contestants froze in place, trying to comprehend what had just happened.
Mic had said that the zero pointer robots were just for distraction purposes and that we should ignore them. But…
Mumbling Boy wants to be a hero this badly? Badly enough that he's willing to destroy himself to save someone he doesn't know?
I looked at the girl, who was busy vomiting. If I were Rubble Girl, I wouldn't've expected someone to save me, but if I were Mumbling Boy…
I'd do the exact same thing.

After almost a week of waiting, a letter finally came into the mail from UA. I snatched it from the mailman, thanking him immediately before running inside and waving it around.
"Shinsou!" I cried. "The letters arrived!"
He got up from the sofa as our cat, Maiko, meowed at him. He took his letter and we opened them at the same time.
The Symbol of Peace, All Might, appeared before us and gave our results. I had gotten first with a total of seventy-two points. A boy named Bakugou had gotten second with seventy points.
Shinsou wasn't as lucky. He had gone for the hero course as well, but only got into Class 1-C; The Support Course. I had gotten into Class 1-A.
"Hey, maybe next year you can get into Class 1-A or B," I said, trying to cheer him up. He actually smirked slightly, throwing the letter on the coffee table.
"Yeah, maybe."
Author's Note: Okay, yeah, the chapters are a bit short, but they will be because it's all just buildup for the story. Thanks for reading and please review!
