Annabeth and Sif exited the portal and came out into Jötunheim.
Annabeth looked around and was stunned by how beautiful it was. It was lush and gorgeous and had the sweetest aroma ever smelled.
"Oh my gods," she gasped. "Is this really the land of the giants? Is it really this beautiful?"
"It's the Ironwood," said Sif. "A land that was supposedly a myth within this realm. And it's beautiful since it was kept safe from Odin and my late husband's wrath."
Annabeth and Sif walked up to what appeared to be a treehouse with paintings and beds and animal pens and even a bigger bed outside, but with nothing sleeping in it.
"Who lives here?" asked Annabeth.
"If I'm not mistaken, according to Kratos, this is Atreus' friend Angrboda's house," said Sif. "She lived her for centuries, being the last of the giants to survive Thor's genocide."
Annabeth sighed.
"Don't get me wrong, but your husband didn't seem like a nice man," Annabeth said.
"He wasn't always a brutal monster," said Sif. "But he was too deeply devoted to his father. He would do anything to please him and make him happy, even it if meant the genocide of the giants. Unfortunately, he would only realize his wrongdoings right before Odin killed him himself. But thanks to Kratos, he did manage to see the error of his own ways."
"Was he a good man to you? And to Thrud?" asked Annabeth as they examined the place.
"To me, to Thrud, and our boys Magni and Modi, before Kratos and Atreus killed them," said Sif. "But they too again were manipulated and controlled by Odin. He had a strong heart, but I wish he could've realized his wrongdoing long before he died."
"I bet Thrud misses him dearly," said Annabeth.
"She wields his hammer in memory of him," Sif said. "And I don't doubt one minute that she will make an excellent Valkyrie in the future."
Annabeth smiled.
"Come miss," she said. "Let's go find that portal."
Suddenly, a burst of white light shot in the distance, followed by sounds of loud monsters roaring.
"I think we already did!" exclaimed Sif.
"It's far away!" said Annabeth. "How are we going to get over there fast?"
"How about like this?" asked Sif.
Sif raised her hands and energy began to glow from them. Suddenly, Annabeth felt the ground beneath her rumbling.
And then giant roots from beneath the earth lifted both her and Sif up into the air. Annabeth yelled out in shock at first while Sif laughed almost maniacally, having done this before.
Root by root kept rising up and grabbing them both, bringing them all across the Ironwood.
They kept being thrown root by root until they finally reached their destination. It was a place that Kratos called the Graveyard Mountain.
It was where all the corpses of all the giants whom Thor had killed or who had left their bodies behind after they transferred their souls into marbles, laid.
And it was where a giant massive portal had formed and was releasing giant monsters.
Monsters as big as the giants, but they looked horrific.
The all looked like giant half-alien half-human humanoids. They had hair and wicked jaws, some internal skin layers revealing, and one even creeped Annabeth out because it was smiling horrifically.
"What are these things?" asked Sif. "I have never seen anything like them!"
"No!" Annabeth gasped. "This...this is impossible! There no way this can be!"
"What is it?" asked Sif.
"These are...TITANS!?" Annabeth exclaimed.
"Titans?" asked Sif. "I've known and seen Titans, and these are nothing like..."
"No these things aren't from mythology!" Annabeth exclaimed. "They're monsters from something back in our world known as anime! An anime known as Attack on Titan."
"I have no idea what anime is," said Sif.
"The point is, these things shouldn't even be real or exist!" said Annabeth. "They don't exist anywhere!"
"Well somehow they do," said Sif. "And they are being brought here through that portal!"
"Someone needs to close the portal," Annabeth said. "And someone needs to attack as many Titans as possible. My weapon may not be able to kill them, but I can stagger enough of them that we can force as many as we can back into the portal."
"What about finding out where they're heading?" asked Sif. "They have to be going somewhere! Every monster always is."
"We don't have time for that," said Annabeth. "We need to stop as many as possible."
"They I'll close the portal," said Sif. "You force as many back as possible."
"Yeah I'll do that, as soon as I figure where to get a grappling hook," said Annabeth. "That was the only way the heroes in AoT could get to their level."
"Grappling hook?" asked Sif.
"Uh...it's like a rope used for swinging and to get around places," said Annabeth.
"Oh, then say no more," said Sif.
She formed some magic in her hand, and whispered into it, and then blew the dust onto Annabeth.
"There," she said. "All you have to do is jump, and the earth will help you reach your goals. Trust me."
Annabeth stared at the long haired goddess, and nodded.
She took a deep breath, and she jumped right off the cliff, and just as Sif said, the earth shot out roots and created vines hanging from them for Annabeth to swing on like grappling hooks.
"Oh yeah!" Annabeth exclaimed. "Now time to kick some Titan behind."
While Annabeth headed for the monsters, Sif summoned all her godly magical strength, and formed two giant hands made out of Earth, and gripped the portal, trying to force it shut.
Annabeth swung towards a row of Titans, and swinging fast on the ropes, she slashed each of them across their chests.
They roared out and began staggering backwards until they knocked into several Titans heading out from the portal.
Some headed back in but the others roared out and began stomping after Annabeth.
They began swinging at her and punching at her, but Annabeth swung out of the way, but it was still difficult.
She wished she still had her special baseball cap that would turn her invisible, but it was lost when she and Percy fell into Tartarus.
Sif stared at the fight going on and then at the remaining tons of Titans walking away slowly to whereever their destination was. She wished she could find out, but she had to focus on the task at hand.
Her hands were slowly closing the portal, and they began spewing vines to try and grab the Titans closer to it.
Annabeth was still dodging and striking Titans, hoping the swinging was enough strength to force them closer and back towards the portal. She was just glad the original Nine Titans weren't here, otherwise she wouldn't have stood a chance probably.
Just then, one Titan, angered by her antics, instead grabbed her vine she was swinging on and swung her towards a Titan who punched her hard.
Annabeth coughed out blood as she went flying and tried to summon another vine, but another Titan smacked her towards another one, which punched her as well.
The Titans began playing hot potato with Annabeth, and she couldn't take the pain for much longer.
Then the biggest Titan of them all grabbed her, and brought her close to it's mouth, preparing to chomp her into wet chunks.
Sif was forced to let go of the portal with one of her hands to try and help Annabeth, but a Titan saw her hand coming and stomped down on it, causing great pain to Sif's real hand.
Unable to help Annabeth, Sif watched as Annabeth groaned in pain as she was brought closer to it's mouth.
Annabeth could only prepare for what seemed like the end, but at the same felt like always in situations like this, something out of the blue always came to save the day.
And it turned out she was right.
From the distance, everyone heard a loud yell followed by some booming footsteps, and straight from the Ironwood, hopping right over Sif, a 30ft tall giant woman came jumping forward and punched the Titan holding Annabeth so hard, it's jaw broke clean off.
"GET OUT OF MY REALM YOU ABOMINATIONS!" she roared, grabbing Annabeth before they hit the ground.
The Titan roared as best it could without a jaw and all the other Titans stared down at the giant who saved Annabeth.
She then brought Annabeth up to her face, and she whispered magic to her, and purple smoke flowed out her mouth, and Annabeth was immediately healed.
"Ha! I still got it!" she exclaimed. "Even without my cauldron, I still got some giant magic left in me."
Annabeth stared shocked at the giant.
"Who the Hades are you?" she asked.
"I am Grýla," she said. "And next to my granddaughter and Loki, one of the last living giants you'll ever see."
"Hot damn," said Annabeth.
They both stared at the Titans heading towards them, and more starting to appear from the portal. Sif had rebuilt her stomped hand and was back to slowly closing the portal.
"We need to get them back inside before we close it!" Annabeth said.
"Group them together," said Grýla. "I'll snare them together and get them into that portal.
Annabeth nodded and once again summoned earth vines and began attacking the Titans. This time she hit them slightly so that they would focus only on her and slowly start to bunch together after staggering back from being hit.
One by one, Annabeth hit them so they were getting more and more huddled together. Grýla had prepared a trap with a strong rope and spun it around the Titans and moved behind the portal itself.
When ready, Grýla pulled hard and began pulling the Titans back towards the portal. Annabeth kept hitting them to make them stagger back and Sif made more vines pull on them.
All together, with all their strength, they pushed all the remaining Titans back into the portal, forcing them back with the emerging ones, and once they were all inside, Sif yelled with all her strength and used it too to finally crush the portal together with her earthly hands, finally closing it.
Sif collapsed to the ground using the extent of earth goddess strength, and Grýla brought Annabeth up to her.
"Are you okay?" she asked.
"I'll be," Sif said slowly recovering.
"I normally don't take to kindly to anything with a soul that's not a giant in my realm, and especially the wife of the god who killed my kind," Grýla said. "But those things were the most soulless monsters I had ever seen, that I will make an exception."
"Well...thank you I guess," I said.
Grýla snorted and prepared to head back into the Ironwood.
"Before you possibly ask, no I could not find where the escaped monsters went," she said. "They just disappeared, like all monsters before them."
"Damn," said Annabeth.
"However, there is something I should tell you," Grýla said. "These portals seem to resemble the same kind of realm tearing magic Loki's wolf has."
"You mean Atreus?" asked Sif. "And his wolf, Fenrir?"
"Fenrir?" asked Annabeth. "As in Fenris Wolf?"
"That wolf could open up portals due to it's soul being inside of a realm-tearing monster," said Grýla. "I've seen my granddaughter, Angrboda and Loki travel with it's magic. It's the only thing that could open portals to alternate realities."
"So...are you trying to say...Loki could be behind this?" Annabeth asked.
"Can't be," said Grýla. "Because Loki and Angrboda have disappeared. I haven't seen them or the wolf for weeks. I've been helping out by taking care of my granddaughter's animals because I made a promise. But I would let Loki's father know about this."
"That does not sound good at all," said Sif.
"Anyway, I have to go," said Grýla. "Farewell."
Annabeth waved to Grýla before she disappeared into the forest.
Sif used her magic again to start bringing her and Annabeth to the portal door, since it was the only way to leave.
"If Loki, or Atreus, isn't behind this," said Annabeth. "Then could possibly someone be controlling the wolf instead?"
"Whatever it could be, it is not good," said Sif. "Fenrir inhabits the body of a beast known as the Hound of Hel called Garm. Odin locked him up in Helheim, but Loki freed him, with help from my daughter. It began to cause havoc until Loki placed the soul of his dead wolf pet inside it, turning it into Fenrir reincarnated basically, or revived."
"Wow," said Annabeth.
"Garm tears the fabric of reality, and can even open up as Grýla said, portals apparently to even alternate realities, which has to be where these monsters are coming from," said Sif.
"So at least we now know what's causing the portals or what their magic is coming from," said Annabeth.
"But we don't know WHO," said Sif.
"We should head back to Sindri's so we can relay the information when everyone returns," said Annabeth.
Sif nodded as they continued to swing on the vines heading towards the portal.
Annabeth was still happy to have been fighting alongside a goddess herself, and to have the thrill of battle once again.
Oh boy, what a surprise. Titans from Attack on Titan!? I must let you know however, I have never seen the anime nor read the manga for Attack on Titan, so I just used what info I could find online for this.
But it seems we will be seeing lots of monsters from other fantasy stories and media for this story. What a big surprise!
And what could've happened to Atreus and Angrboda if Fenrir's powers are being used? And what monsters could we see next?
Stay tuned to find out!
