Evelin knew that making a deal with the devil would have life long consequences, but she had no other option left.
Her little brother had been kidnapped and dragged into Avernus and there was only one, who could help her get him back out.
Raphael, the devil that happened to conveniently appeared on her doorstep, when she just had considered seeking him out. That he was there, a slick smile upon his lips and a contract in his hands ready to sign, it should have been her final warning...
But Evelin ignored it and signed the contract with her own blood. She sold her soul in a heartbeat for her little brother, that was everything to her.
She had nothing and no one but him.
There was no life without him and she'd rather sell her soul and be damned forever, with the hope to get him back, than having to live another day without ever seeing him again.
The devil knew that and waited for the right moment to collect yet another sorry soul for his never ending list.
The deal between them was, that she would serve him until he got his crown and in return, he would free her brother from his chains in his father's prison.
A simple exchange that didn't seem to have any terrible side effects, or any she could spot at the moment. Evelin knew that the fine print in her contract would later come to light, but for now, it didn't seem as bad as she had expected.
At first he had her do simple task in his House of Hope, then she was promoted to run errands on the surface and later she was sent to gather information about potential future clients and enlist them. Those clients then would either be watched by his "stalkers" like Korilla, or be sent an invitation to Sharess Caress or his Home.
It all remained in it's usual order, until Evelin was called one day to take over a special case, that needed months of investigation and careful tracking.
The strange group of adventurers, that had arrived out of nowhere in the wilderness. The devil did not tell her why she was sent to watch them, or what her mission was about. All she knew was she had to pry on their every move and report it all back.
Evelin did as she was told, but nothing she ever reported seemed to be of interest to Raphael and everytime he sent her away again displeased, without explaining her anything further.
That was until she finally spoke up against him and stood her ground, proving the devil that the human woman had finally grown enough backbone to be told her actual mission.
It was one far too important and precious, to be ruined by an incompetent mortal that wasn't self aware, intelligent or could do something as simple as standing on her own ground.
As contradictory as it may sound, the only people the devil even remotely respected, were those that had the courage to look him in the eye and defy him in a reasonable matter.
Pointless disobedience was obviously punished immediately, but worthy defiance was always welcomed.
As much as he hated when someone stepped out of line, he truly appreciated the game of wit and the play of dominance at times.
It gave him different perspectives he may not have thought about earlier. The more thought out his plans were, the better. Even if it wasn't all his own work in the end. It didn't matter how he got what he wanted, if he succeeded at last.
When Evelin proved her first signs of a growing backbone, the devil decided he would throw her a few crumb's to see how she'd envolve.
Either she would become someone worthy to debate with and assist close by his side, or she would be discarded back into her prior useless position.
It was truly up to her and how much she could hold her ground against the manipulative and narcissist nature of Raphael, who would now truly begin to wrap her into his plans, that led to complete domination over the hells and the planets beyond.
Was she smart enough to be an asset in his plans or just a useless stone to be kicked aside?
Only time would tell.
