Chapter 4: Naruto

The first day of the academy had finally arrived, and the Hidden Leaf Village was alive with the chatter of children and the proud smiles of their families. Parents lingered outside the academy gates, offering last-minute words of encouragement or fixing their children's hair. The excitement in the air was almost tangible.

Raiko adjusted the straps of his small backpack as he walked beside Naruto, who practically vibrated with energy. "I can't believe it, Raiko!" Naruto exclaimed, nearly skipping as they approached the academy. "This is it! The first step to becoming the strongest ninjas ever! Dattebayo!"

Raiko couldn't help but chuckle. "Yeah, Naruto. It's a big day. But remember, this is just the start. We've got a long way to go."

Naruto grinned at his friend. "I'm ready for anything!"

The academy building stood tall and proud, its polished floors and pristine walls radiating a sense of importance. Raiko took it all in with a calm expression, though inside, he couldn't help but feel a rush of anticipation. This was the first step toward his dream, the first step to becoming someone strong enough to protect the people he cared about.

They entered their assigned classroom, and Raiko quickly chose seats near the middle. Naruto, as usual, made his presence known by loudly introducing himself to anyone who would listen.

"I'm Naruto Uzumaki! Remember that name, 'cause one day, I'm gonna be Hokage!" he declared with boundless confidence.

Raiko cringed slightly at the attention Naruto was drawing but didn't say anything. The reactions were predictable: a mix of laughter, eye-rolls, and whispers. Raiko noticed a few kids shooting Naruto disdainful looks, and his jaw tightened.

Before things could escalate, the chatter died down as a man entered the room. He had a kind face, short brown hair, and a horizontal scar across his nose. He clapped his hands together, immediately commanding attention.

"Alright, settle down, everyone," he said in a firm but gentle tone. "My name is Iruka Umino, and I'll be your instructor. Welcome to the Ninja Academy."

The students quickly fell silent, their focus shifting to the man at the front of the room. Iruka smiled warmly at them. "This is the beginning of your journey as ninjas. Over the next few years, you'll learn everything from basic jutsu to teamwork and strategy. It won't be easy, but if you work hard, you'll grow stronger."

The room buzzed with excitement, and Raiko listened intently, absorbing every word. Iruka continued by asking each student to stand up and introduce themselves.

Raiko waited patiently for his turn. When it came, he stood confidently. "I'm Raiko, and I'm going to become a strong ninja who protects the village." His tone was calm and sure, drawing polite nods from a few students.

When Naruto's turn came, he jumped to his feet with his signature grin. "I'm Naruto Uzumaki, and I'm gonna be the greatest Hokage ever!"

Laughter erupted almost immediately. Some students pointed and whispered, while others outright mocked him.

"Him? Hokage? What a joke!" one boy sneered.

Naruto's smile faltered for a split second, but before he could respond, Raiko stood up.

"Why's that funny?" Raiko said, his voice calm but laced with steel.

The boy looked startled. "Uh… well, it's just… he's Naruto!"

Raiko raised an eyebrow. "And? What about him? He's more determined than any of you. If anything, that makes him more of a ninja than the rest of you combined."

The room fell silent, and the boy shrank back into his seat. Naruto looked at Raiko, his eyes wide with surprise and gratitude.

"Thanks, Raiko," Naruto whispered as Raiko sat back down.

"Don't mention it," Raiko replied, giving his friend a small smile.

The introductions continued without further interruptions, and soon Iruka began the first lesson. He explained the basics of chakra control, the different types of jutsu, and the importance of teamwork. Raiko listened carefully, his sharp mind piecing everything together, while Naruto struggled to stay focused, fidgeting in his seat.

When the lecture ended, the class was taken outside for their first practical exercise: shuriken throwing. The students lined up, each taking turns to hit the target. Raiko noticed the varying skill levels, from kids who could barely hold a shuriken to others who hit the bullseye with ease.

When it was Naruto's turn, he grabbed a shuriken and threw it with all his might. The shuriken sailed past the target, landing several feet away. Laughter erupted from the other students.

"Nice throw, loser!" one boy jeered.

Naruto's face turned red, and he clenched his fists. Before he could retort, Raiko stepped forward.

"Let me show you how it's done," Raiko said, picking up a shuriken. He took a deep breath, steadied his aim, and threw. The shuriken hit the target dead center, the sound of metal on wood cutting through the laughter.

The other students stared in surprise, and Raiko turned to Naruto with an encouraging smile. "Don't let them get to you. Just keep practicing."

Naruto nodded, his determination returning. He picked up another shuriken and threw it again. While it still missed the target, it was closer this time.

"See? You're already improving," Raiko said, clapping him on the back.

As the day went on, Raiko and Naruto encountered another notable student: Sasuke Uchiha. Sasuke carried himself with quiet confidence, his sharp gaze and natural talent making him stand out immediately. During a taijutsu sparring session, Sasuke effortlessly defeated his opponent, earning admiring looks from many of the students.

When it was Raiko's turn to spar, he faced off against a different opponent. The match was challenging, but Raiko's focused training paid off. He won decisively, and as he glanced around, he noticed Sasuke watching him with a flicker of interest.

By the end of the day, Naruto was exhausted but smiling. "Man, today was tough, but we'll get stronger, right, Raiko?"

"Definitely," Raiko replied. "We'll keep working hard, and one day, no one will be able to look down on us."

As they walked back to the orphanage, Raiko couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. The academy was going to be a challenge, but he was ready. Together with Naruto, he would face every obstacle and prove their worth to the world. This was just the beginning.
