Ninjago was doomed; the Preeminent had just been released, threatening to take over Stiix. The Ninja started to move away from the fallen and broken shop, staring at the monstrous creature emerging from the portal. Fear struck their faces as they took in the sight of the towering, green eyeball-like being. Ghosts spewed from its gaping maw, while its tentacles writhed, grasping at anything in their path.
Lloyd stood frozen, his heart pounding in his chest. He couldn't save Tina. She was gone—along with Morro and the Realm Crystal. The weight of his failure bore down on him, and for a moment, it felt as though all hope had been lost.
The citizens of Stiix scrambled toward the docks in a panic, desperate to escape the Queen of the Cursed. Wu, Garmadon, and Misako worked tirelessly at the docks to evacuate them to safety. Wu's gaze hardened as he looked at the emerging terror. "Lloyd couldn't destroy the Realm Crystal. The Preeminent has arrived," he said gravely.
Ronin came sprinting up with a group of terrified civilians in tow. "We need to evacuate everyone out of this town. Like now!" he barked, holding the Sword of Sanctuary in hand.
Lloyd clenched his fists, his face etched with frustration. "I should've been stronger," he muttered under his breath. "I should've stopped this."
Kai snapped him out of it, pointing at the monstrous form. "What is that thing?!" he exclaimed.
"She's the Preeminent," Zane responded, his voice laced with dread. "The physical manifestation of the entire Cursed Realm."
Cole swallowed hard. "I know one thing—she ain't pretty."
Jay groaned, looking queasy. "Ew, gross! I'm about to lose my lunch."
Nya stepped forward, determination flashing in her eyes. "If we can't stop that, we might lose Ninjago!" She unleashed a powerful torrent of water at the creature, but it barely reacted.
"Fire!" Kai commanded, hurling flames at the beast.
"Lightning!" Jay followed, striking it with a powerful bolt.
"Ice!" Zane shot a freezing blast.
"Earth!" Cole sent chunks of rock flying.
Each of their elements struck the Preeminent, but the beast remained unmoved. Zane's sensors flickered in alarm. "She didn't even notice that."
Jay groaned in frustration. "Oh, I hate unbeatable creatures."
Lloyd stared up at the monstrous being, his determination returning despite his doubts. "We're not done yet," he said firmly. "We have to find another way... before it's too late."
Down by the docks, Wu, Misako, and Garmadon were helping Ronin lead the frantic citizens of Stiix onto the paddle boat. Chaos reigned as people rushed forward in a desperate attempt to escape. Suddenly, a monstrous tentacle shot out from the Preeminent, wrapping tightly around Misako. "Misako!" Garmadon lunged forward, grabbing her hand, but the monstrous grip was too strong.
He struggled, his face contorted with desperation, but the tentacle yanked her away into the air. "The more souls taken, the more powerful she will become," Wu said grimly, his eyes locked on the creature.
Garmadon's expression hardened. "Help Ronin with the others. I'm going after my wife." Without waiting for a response, he dashed toward the chaos.
Ronin turned to the boat captain. "Warm up that paddle. We're leaving when they get back," he ordered.
Meanwhile, on the battlefield, Zane dashed across the debris-strewn ground, narrowly avoiding a swiping tentacle. He reached out, pulling a terrified woman from the Preeminent's grasp. "Thank you!" she gasped in relief.
"Get to the ship, hurry!" Nya shouted, directing fleeing citizens.
Zane turned to the others, frustration in his voice. "I don't know how to stop this thing! It just keeps coming!"
Kai slashed at an oncoming tentacle with his Aeroblade, severing it. "Ah, you stop one, two more grow in its place!" he groaned. Nearby, the Preeminent crushed Jay's vehicle with a sickening crunch. Kai turned to Nya. "If there was ever a time to unlock your True Potential, sis, it's now."
"Oh yeah, let me just flip the switch," Nya snapped, dodging debris. "Oh wait, I'm not a Nindroid! I don't have a switch!"
Zane's eyes flickered with realization. "If ghosts can't withstand Deepstone, perhaps the same applies to the Preeminent... but we'll need a larger dose."
Cole revved his Deepstone bike and grinned. "My bike's made of Deepstone. How about I jam it down her gullet? Cover me!"
Nearby, Misako struggled against the tentacle constricting her. Garmadon jumped onto a fallen beam, reaching for her desperately. "Hold on!" he shouted, but another tentacle separated them, knocking him back.
Cole accelerated toward the creature. "Like cake? How's this for your pie hole? Ninja, go!"
He launched himself into the air, directing the Deepstone bike straight into the Preeminent's gaping maw. The creature roared in fury, dropping Misako in the process. Misako screamed as she fell, but Garmadon spun into action, using his Spinjitzu to catch her safely. "Got you," he breathed, holding her close.
Jay groaned as he watched. "Thanks, Cole. You only made her madder."
Cole shrugged. "And there goes a perfectly good bike."
Lloyd, watching the battle unfold, gritted his teeth. "If Tina's inside that thing, we have to get closer!" he declared, determination burning in his eyes.
Jay threw his hands up. "Yeah, easier said than done!"
Lloyd clenched his fists, staring at the towering creature. I won't lose anyone else... he thought to himself. "We can't give up now!"
Tina barely had time to process what had happened before she found herself standing outside an old monastery, perched high in the mountains. The chilling mountain breeze carried the echoes of voices from long ago. The Realm Crystal shimmered faintly in her grasp, its energy pulsating from the recent spell she had cast. Beside her, Morro stood frozen, his usually defiant expression replaced with unease. "What did you do?" he whispered, eyes scanning the surroundings.
Tina's grip tightened on the crystal. "I... I used a spell," she admitted. "It didn't just bring us here... it brought us back."
Morro's eyes widened in realization, his gaze settling on three ragged figures scavenging through a pile of discarded scraps near the monastery gates. The tallest of them, his younger self, stood out even through the layers of dirt and tattered clothing. Tina watched silently as the two smaller children darted away, leaving young Morro alone to rummage through the debris with a hardened determination far beyond his years. And then, Wu appeared. Tina and Morro watched as the young Wu approached with an air of kindness, carrying a plate of fresh food for Morro. There was something different about Wu in these memories—less burdened by the weight of the years, yet still possessing the wisdom that defined him.
Wu extended a hand, offering food to the boy who had stopped digging. Young Morro hesitated, suspicion flashing across his face. He glanced at Wu, at the food, then back at the monastery towering behind him.
"He offered me kindness when no one else did," Morro said, his voice distant.
Tina stole a glance at him. "You were just a kid trying to survive. I know that feeling."
They watched as young Morro reluctantly accepted the food, shoveling it into his mouth hungrily. Wu knelt beside him, speaking softly, though the exact words were lost in the memory. Moments later, Morro stood and followed Wu inside the monastery's towering gates. The scene blurred, shifting to the monastery's training grounds. Tina and Morro were suddenly standing amidst younger versions of the monastery's inhabitants. Young Morro trained tirelessly, matching every move Wu demonstrated with unwavering determination. The child possessed an almost desperate need to impress, a hunger for approval that resonated with Tina.
"He took me in," Morro whispered, watching his younger self. "Taught me everything I knew. I was the perfect student."
Tina folded her arms. "Perfect? Or just desperate to prove yourself?"
Morro didn't answer. Instead, the memory shifted again—to a grand chamber where the golden weapons were laid in a circle, glowing faintly. Wu stood in the center, holding the legendary Green Ninja Gi in his hands. "This was the moment..." Morro muttered, his hands curling into fists.
Tina watched as young Morro stepped inside the circle, eyes wide with anticipation. His chest rose and fell with heavy breaths, waiting... waiting for destiny to call. The weapons remained motionless, their energy dormant. Wu's expression fell, realization dawning. "It didn't choose me," Morro whispered, his voice thick with old anger.
Wu shook his head in the memory. "Destiny has spoken."
Morro's younger self trembled, his fists clenched tightly as he looked at the weapons in disbelief. "I'll train harder, master more skills. Just give me another chance!"
Wu's expression softened but remained firm. "Destiny is not something we can force, Morro."
The words shattered the boy. With a snarl, he tore off the door, storming out of the chamber. "I am the Green Ninja! You made me believe!"
The memory shifted once more. Tina followed as Morro packed a small bag in the dead of night, his face set with a grim resolve. He gazed at the monastery gates one last time before stepping beyond them into the unknown. Wu, standing in the shadows, left the gates open in silent hope of his return. Tina's heart ached at the sight of Wu's quiet sorrow. She turned to Morro, who stood silently, staring at the scene with a mixture of bitterness and regret. "You really hurt him, you know," she said softly.
"I didn't care back then," Morro admitted. "All I wanted was to prove I was meant for something greater."
Tina shook her head. "Sometimes, wanting something so bad can blind you to what really matters."
Morro turned away, "And what would that be?"
Suddenly, the scene shifted again as Tina's magic guided them back to the moment young Morro stormed out of the chamber, anger and heartbreak radiating from him. But this time, Tina pointed at Wu, drawing Morro's attention to a quiet moment he had missed all those years ago. Morro furrowed his brow. "What are you—" His words faltered when he saw what Wu did next.
In the flickering candlelight of the chamber, Wu reached into the folds of his robes and pulled out an old parchment. With a heavy sigh, he unfolded it, his fingers trembling ever so slightly. It wasn't just any document—it was a letter, one that had clearly been written with great care and thought. Tina's voice was soft but firm. "Wu wrote that letter... for you."
Morro stood frozen, his eyes locked on the scene before him. Wu's expression was somber as he read over the words, his lips moving silently. Then, with a sigh, he pressed the letter against his chest, closing his eyes. "I wanted to make it official," Past Wu murmured in the memory. "To give him a home... to give him family."
Morro inhaled sharply, his usual bravado fading as the truth settled in. His younger self had never known. He had left before he could realize what Wu truly meant to do. Tina watched Morro's reaction carefully. "He wanted to adopt you," she said gently. "You weren't just another student to him."
Morro's lips parted, but no words came out. His eyes darted between the younger version of himself storming out and Wu standing alone, holding the letter with quiet sorrow.
"I…" Morro clenched his fists. "He never told me."
"Would you have listened if he did?" Tina asked.
Morro didn't respond. His eyes were filled with something Tina hadn't seen before—regret. Wu, unaware of the invisible presence of his future student, sighed deeply and placed the letter inside a drawer in the chamber, locking it away as if sealing his unspoken feelings along with it. Then, with the same quiet patience he always had, he turned and walked away, leaving the chamber empty. Tina placed a hand on Morro's shoulder. "You thought you were alone... but you weren't."
Morro swallowed hard, his voice low. "I never knew. I thought... I thought I was just another failure to him."
Tina shook her head. "No. He cared about you more than you realize."
This new piece of information made Morro realize that if he hadn't left and accepted the fact that he wasn't the green ninja then he would've had a better life. He could have been a part of the ninja's team; he could have also been Lloyd's cousin, he could have been a hero. The memory faded slowly, the golden glow of the chamber giving way to the cold mountain air once more. The monastery loomed before them again, and the weight of Morro's past felt heavier than ever. Morro looked down at his hands, his mind racing. "And now… it's too late."
"It's never too late," Tina said softly. "You can't change the past, but you can change what you do now."
Back outside, chaos reigned as the ninja struggled to restrain the monstrous Preeminent. Its grotesque tentacles lashed out in every direction, snatching at anything within reach. The air was thick with fear and the acrid scent of destruction, but they couldn't afford to give in. Not now. Nya tightened her grip on her weapon, frustration evident in her voice. "I thought you were gonna get closer?"
Kai, dodging a sweeping tentacle, gritted his teeth. "You don't think I'm trying?" He sent a burst of fire toward the towering creature, but it barely singed its slimy exterior.
Lloyd, panting as he tried to find an opening, looked toward the others with urgency. "We can't hold her off forever! We need a plan!"
Wu's voice cut through the turmoil with grim finality. "It's too late. We have to get to the ship and protect the people."
Jay hesitated, glancing back at the towering figure of the Preeminent, his expression torn. "But what about Tina?" he asked, worry evident in his voice.
Misako, barely managing to keep her footing as the ground trembled beneath them, spoke with a heavy heart. "Ugh. This is what Tina would've wanted. She'd want us to protect the innocent first."
Lloyd's face hardened with determination, his fists clenching. "I'm still here, and I'm not giving up! We can do both. Get the people to safety—I'll hold it off as long as I can."
Kai's eyes burned with intensity. "To the ship, but we're not leaving anyone else behind!" He launched another fire attack, covering Lloyd as he sprinted forward, slashing through the ghostly figures emerging from the Preeminent's gaping maw. Suddenly, a tentacle struck out, wrapping around Zane's Ice Mech with crushing force.
"Whoa!" Zane cried as he was ejected from the cockpit, landing hard on the ground.
Lloyd ran to his side, pulling him up. "You okay?"
Zane nodded, though his systems sparked. "I'll manage. But we need a new strategy. My ice won't hold her."
Wu rushed to two lingering citizens, his voice urgent. "Follow me! That's all of them. We need to get this ship to sea to put as much water between us as possible."
Just then, a shadow descended from the rooftops. Soul Archer landed before Ronin, his bow drawn and glowing ominously in the eerie green light. Ronin, eyes widening in alarm, muttered under his breath. "Great. Just what we needed."
"Get on the ship!" Lloyd shouted, stepping between Ronin and the ghostly archer. "I'll deal with him."
Kai grunted. "Lloyd, we can't keep splitting up like this!"
"We don't have a choice! Go!" Lloyd ordered Ronin.
Ronin hesitated for only a moment before nodding and tossed the Sword of Sanctuary to Lloyd, "Alright, kid. Don't get yourself killed."
As the ship's engines roared to life, Lloyd faced Soul Archer alone, his emerald eyes blazing with resolve. "You're not stopping us."
Soul Archer's voice echoed with eerie amusement. "Brave words, Green Ninja. But bravery won't save you."
Lloyd lunged, his sword clashing against the ghostly weapon, sparks flying. He could hear the ship creaking as it moved away, his friends shouting orders to secure the passengers. They were safe—for now. But he had to buy them more time. Back on the ship, Nya gripped the railing tightly, watching the fight unfold. "Come on, Lloyd..."
Wu placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Have faith. Lloyd is stronger than you think."
On the docks, Lloyd stood his ground, determination radiating from him as he fought against the relentless Soul Archer. The shadow of the Preeminent loomed ever closer, its grotesque form casting an eerie green glow over the battlefield. The battle was far from over, but Lloyd wasn't going to let fear win. Not this time.
The Soul Archer drew back his bow, a spectral arrow aimed directly at Lloyd's heart. Just as he released it, a sudden gust of wind swept through the docks, knocking the ghostly archer off his feet and sending him tumbling backward. Lloyd's eyes darted upward, half-expecting Morro to have returned to finish what he started. But what he saw instead left him momentarily speechless. High above in the sky, a swirling portal opened, its light casting an otherworldly glow over the chaos below. From the portal soared Tina, her dragon wings unfurled against the wind, and beside her was Morro, his expression resolute, holding the Realm Crystal.
The second Zane caught sight of his little sister alive and well, a wave of relief and joy washed over him. Tina and Morro landed gracefully in front of Lloyd, the dust settling around them. Tina grinned, brushing off the tension. "Don't tell me we missed the party."
Lloyd's grip on his sword tightened as he eyed Morro warily. His history with the former ghostly adversary made trust a difficult thing. "And why should I believe you?" he asked, suspicion clear in his voice.
Morro took a step forward, his gaze steady. "Because I want to make things right. I may not have been the Green Ninja, but I can fix my mistakes."
Lloyd studied him for a moment before glancing at Tina, who nodded in reassurance. "The Preeminent is basically a ghost," Tina explained. "If we can drop her into the water, she'll be destroyed."
Lloyd's eyes flickered with realization and determination. "Ronin, get to the ship and protect the people. Ninja, take out the stilts. We need to drop the Preeminent into the sea."
Jay groaned, rolling his eyes. "Ugh, why didn't we think of that earlier?"
Cole smirked, clapping him on the back. "That's why he's the leader."
Without hesitation, the ninja leaped into action. "Ninja, go!" they shouted in unison, using their Airjitzu to soar back into the city, ready to execute their daring plan to bring down the monstrous Preeminent once and for all.
A few ghosts, including the Soul Archer and Bansha, surrounded Lloyd, Morro, and Tina, their spectral forms flickering ominously in the dim light. The air grew thick with an unnatural chill, and the eerie whispers of the departed filled the space around them. Lloyd tightened his grip on his sword, his emerald eyes narrowing in determination, while Morro squared his shoulders, standing tall beside him. Tina, wings unfurled, glanced between the two, sensing the weight of the moment. Morro turned to her, his expression serious yet laced with an unfamiliar softness.
"Take the Realm Crystal," he said, pressing the pulsating artifact into her hands. "Get to the ship and help Nya protect the people. Whatever happens, don't let it fall into the wrong hands."
Tina hesitated for a moment, searching Morro's eyes for any sign of deception, but all she found was sincerity. She nodded, clutching the crystal tightly. She then turned to Lloyd and kissed him on the cheek, "Don't do anything reckless," she muttered, before spreading her wings and soaring toward the ship. The wind whipped through her hair as she glanced back, seeing the tense standoff below.
The Soul Archer stepped forward, his ghostly bow raised, a sneer curling his translucent lips. "You betray your kind, Morro!?" he snarled, his hollow eyes burning with contempt. "After all we've been through, you side with the living?"
Morro's jaw tightened, his eyes never leaving the archer. "I'm getting on the right side of this fight," he stated firmly, his voice steady. "I was wrong before, but I'm done running."
Lloyd glanced at him, surprised but resolute. "Let's make sure you mean it."
Without warning, the Soul Archer loosed an arrow of ghostly energy, aimed straight for Morro's heart. Morro reacted swiftly, conjuring a gust of wind that sent the projectile veering off course. Lloyd seized the opening, charging forward with his sword flashing in the dim light. He clashed with Bansha, their weapons colliding in a shower of sparks as she let out a shrill, ear-piercing wail. Morro spun to face the Soul Archer, their gazes locking. He dodged another spectral arrow and retaliated with a wind blast that sent debris flying. "You're a traitor!" the archer hissed, drawing his blade.
He lunged at Morro, the two of them locked in a furious exchange of blows. Morro matched him strike for strike, the weight of his past sins fueling his every move. Lloyd, meanwhile, was holding his own against Bansha, ducking and weaving through her relentless attacks. "You're persistent, I'll give you that!" he quipped, slicing through her ghostly tendrils with his blade.
"You will never defeat the Preeminent!" Bansha hissed, lunging at him with supernatural speed.
Morro, seeing Lloyd in trouble, sent a powerful gust of wind that knocked Bansha off balance. Lloyd smirked, nodding in approval. "Not bad."
"Glad to know the Green Ninja approves." Morro joked.
As the ghosts closed in again, Lloyd and Morro stood back-to-back, their movements synchronized as they fought side by side. Morro's wind attacks provided cover while Lloyd's precise strikes pushed their enemies back. Slowly but surely, they gained the upper hand. Meanwhile, beneath the bridge supports, Cole, Zane, Jay, and Kai moved stealthily through the shadows, their eyes fixed on the monstrous Preeminent looming above. Each of them clutched their aeroblades tightly, their determination unwavering as they prepared to strike. The weight of the mission hung heavy in the air, but they knew what had to be done.
With coordinated movements, they each launched themselves at the towering supports, their aeroblades slicing through the aged wood and stone with precision. The bridge groaned in protest, cracks spreading rapidly as chunks of debris crumbled into the sea below. The Preeminent let out a guttural roar, its massive form shifting precariously. High above, the Soul Archer's piercing gaze darted from the collapsing supports to the precarious tilt of the Preeminent. Panic flashed across his spectral face as he barked out orders to the surrounding ghosts. "Protect the Preeminent!" The Soul Archer shouted.
As if summoned by his command, an army of ghosts materialized from the mist, dragging dilapidated houses and wreckage from the city, frantically attaching them to the Preeminent. The ruined structures merged with its grotesque form, creating a monstrous, towering "suit" of makeshift armor. The beast, now an eerie amalgamation of Stiix itself, began to move with unsettling determination. It lumbered forward, its new legs grinding against the debris, sending echoes through the flooded streets. Tina, watching from the deck of the ship, groaned in frustration. "Just great. Now the ghost queen has armor."
Sensei Wu observed the looming threat, his expression calm but serious. "Let's hope it can't swim."
Ronin, panic creeping into his voice, dashed toward the ship's controls. "We need more speed!"
Nya, determination flashing in her eyes, pulled down her hood. "I have to help the Ninja." She turned to run toward the edge of the ship.
Ronin, however, shoved past her and seized control of the ship's wheel, pushing it to its limits. "Let me handle this!" The ship lurched forward, cutting through the water faster than before.
A deafening roar erupted from the Preeminent as it crashed through the remnants of Stiix, its monstrous legs crushing buildings in its wake. The Ninja sprinted across the crumbling rooftops, the realm crystal clutched tightly in Tina's grasp. Lloyd and Morro moved in sync with the team, weaving through the destruction, their shared mission uniting them for the moment. "We have to destroy that thing before it reaches the ship!" Kai huffed, his eyes locked on the looming behemoth.
"Throw!" Ghoultar's voice echoed as the Preeminent hurled an entire house toward the fleeing ship. It missed, splintering into the water just feet away. Onboard, a frightened child clung to Misako, trembling.
"It's okay," Misako whispered soothingly. "The Ninja will stop it."
Lloyd and Morro reached the others, and though the ninja ignored Morro's presence, they pressed on, focused on their mission. The number of ghosts continued to rise, swarming around them like a spectral tide. "If we have to destroy this thing one ghost at a time, so be it," Cole growled, slashing through an approaching phantom.
A crane loosened from its perch and swung dangerously toward them. The ninja scattered just in time, but Kai seized the opportunity, grabbing hold of it mid-swing and using its momentum to launch himself onto the Preeminent's armored leg. The others followed suit, using Airjitzu to propel themselves upwards. A ghost lunged at them in midair, but a powerful blast of water intercepted it, causing it to evaporate instantly. Nya was also on the leg as well, water cascading from her hands, having arrived just in time to provide support. The ninja climbed higher, their ascent hindered when Wrayth's ghostly chains ensnared Zane, dragging him back toward the beast's core.
Zane struggled, his mechanical limbs whirring in protest, his face contorted in effort. Morro, sensing an opportunity to prove himself, intervened. With a powerful gust of wind, he knocked Wrayth off balance, sending him spiraling into the dark waters below. Lloyd, acting fast, unleashed an energy blast that shattered the ghostly chain binding Zane, freeing him just in time. "We've got this! Keep moving!" Lloyd called, his determination unwavering.
While Lloyd and Morro were dealing with the ghost outside; Nya and the other ninja joined Kai in one of the houses that was used at the knee of the suit. "Doctor, it appears our patient needs to have his knee put on ice." Jay spoke jokingly.
"I'm happy to help," Zane replied without hesitation.
He raised his hands, sending a powerful blast of ice surging through the structure, freezing the ghostly joints solid. Crystalline frost spread rapidly, locking the knee in place, causing the entire massive form of the Preeminent to lurch awkwardly. The ninja inside screamed as they were flung against the walls of the house with a resounding thud. Outside, Lloyd staggered on the suit's frozen leg, arms flailing as he fought to keep his balance. The slick surface made every step treacherous. Just as he felt himself slipping, a firm grip caught his arm. Morro, using his wind powers to steady them both, pulled Lloyd back to his feet. "You good?" Morro asked, his voice strained but sincere.
Lloyd gave him a wary glance but nodded. "Yeah. Thanks."
Morro smirked faintly. "Don't mention it. But we're not done yet."
Before Lloyd could respond, a deafening crack echoed through the air as the Preeminent shattered the ice encasing its knee with a monstrous groan. The beast staggered to the docks, attempting to step into the water. A wave of hope swelled in the hearts of those watching from the paddle ship as they cheered, believing the ghostly queen had finally been halted. But their celebration was short-lived. With the combined efforts of the ghost army, the Preeminent found a way to keep moving, stepping further into the sea. Tina's eyes widened in disbelief. "How is this possible? Ghosts can't stand water! How come it's still after us?"
Sensei Garmadon, standing beside her, grimaced. "When you have enough ghosts at your disposal, you can defy almost anything."
Wu's voice cut through the rising panic. "Everyone! Throw anything we don't need overboard. We need more speed!"
The crew sprang into action, tossing crates, barrels, and debris overboard. Even with the ship running at full power, the Preeminent closed the distance. Tina, determination flashing in her eyes, handed the Realm Crystal to Sensei Garmadon. "Hold onto this. I'm going to give us an extra push."
Concentrating, Tina channeled her magic, her hands glowing as a gust of wind surged behind the ship, pushing it forward with newfound speed. Back in the fray, Nya intercepted Bansha just before she could strike Kai. The ghost shrieked before dissolving into mist under Nya's water attack. An arrow whizzed past them, narrowly missing Kai's shoulder. "Kai, watch out!" Nya warned.
But it was too late. Kai lost his footing and tumbled off the ledge. "I got you!" Cole lunged, but his ghostly form passed right through Kai. "I guess not."
Kai grasped onto a loose plank, his eyes wide. "I can't swim!"
Cole hovered helplessly. "I can't get wet!"
The plank snapped, plunging Kai into the water. He surfaced with a gasp and spotted Soul Archer aiming at him from the shore. "You have to come up for air sometime, Fire Ninja," Soul Archer sneered, drawing his bow.
Zane, standing on the edge, saw Kai's predicament. "Kai! Shoot fire now!"
Kai took a deep breath and shouted, "Fire!"
Zane followed with his own cry. "Ice!"
The combination of elements created a surge of steam, engulfing Soul Archer and causing him to evaporate into mist. Jay whooped from the deck, pumping his fist. "Yeah! Fire and Ice make water, nice! And one more ghost is toast!"
Zane reached down and helped Kai back onto the deck. "As iron sharpens iron..."
"Brother sharpens brother," Kai finished, giving a grateful nod.
Despite their efforts, ghosts continued to pour from the Preeminent, endlessly respawning. The beast loomed closer, forcing Lloyd and Morro to use Airjitzu to return to the ship. Nya propelled herself aboard with a burst of water, while the others followed using their elemental abilities. Wu stood at the helm, his eyes fixed on the monstrous figure of the Preeminent looming behind them. The spectral beast lumbered through the water with relentless determination, its grotesque form barely hindered by the churning waves. "If we're gonna destroy the Preeminent," Wu said gravely, gripping the railing, "we're gonna have to do more."
Ronin, leaning against the ship's controls, wiped sweat from his brow and assessed their dwindling resources. "Speaking of more, we need more fuel. If we turn back now, we'll have just enough to get us to shore. Otherwise, if we reach Hollow's Trench, we'll be sitting ducks out there."
Kai's eyes lit up with a spark of realization. "Hollow's Trench. Do you think it's deep enough to drown that giant thing?"
Wu turned to face him, his expression firm with resolve. "One way to find out. Full steam ahead!"
The engine roared as the ship pushed forward, but the victory was short-lived. A deafening crash echoed through the air as the Preeminent's monstrous limbs tore through the paddles, leaving the ship dead in the water. The passengers screamed in terror, clinging to one another as the ship rocked violently. "Oh, no!" Cole shouted, his eyes wide with alarm.
Near the bow, Tina stood trembling, her hands weaving intricate glowing runes in the air. She muttered an incantation, pouring every ounce of her strength into the spell. Magic surged around the ship, pushing it forward inch by inch, but the strain was too much. The glowing runes flickered and faded as Tina collapsed to her knees, gasping for air. Lloyd rushed to her side, helping her sit up. "It's okay," he reassured her. "You did everything you could."
But panic was spreading across the deck, their dwindling options weighing heavily on everyone. Among the chaos, Nya stood frozen, her gaze locked on the Preeminent as it closed the distance, its grotesque form tearing through the waves like a force of nature. Wu's words echoed in her mind: "Until you embrace what holds you back, you'll never discover your True Potential. Your weakness is you give up too easily. You only like what comes easy. Don't be afraid to fail, Nya."
Taking a trembling breath, Nya closed her eyes and stretched out her arms. She reached deep within herself, past the fear, past the doubt, to the calm, unyielding strength that lay beneath. She could feel it now; the ocean, vast and unrelenting, pulsing in time with her heartbeat. The air around her seemed to shift, crackling with energy. The water beneath the ship began to swirl, moving with a life of its own, rising to answer her call. Morro froze midair, sensing the change. "What… What is that?"
Jay, staring in disbelief, turned to him. "Morro? Is that you?"
Morro shook his head, his expression unreadable. "No… That's not my power."
Cole nudged Kai, his voice low with dawning realization. "It's Nya."
Kai's eyes widened, his heart swelling with pride. "She's unlocked her True Potential!"
A vortex of water erupted around Nya, lifting her into the air as if she were a part of the storm itself. Her eyes glowed with fierce determination, and with a commanding cry, she directed a massive tidal wave toward the Preeminent. The force of the water was overwhelming, crashing into the spectral titan with the strength of an ocean storm. The Preeminent flailed, its limbs clawing desperately at the ship as the water surged around it. Nya gritted her teeth, pushing harder, her power bending the ocean to her will. The Preeminent roared, its ghostly form cracking and faltering as the powerful current dragged it toward Hollow's Trench.
The ship jolted violently as the creature made one last desperate attempt to grab hold of it, but Nya's relentless waves drove it back. With a final deafening wail, the Preeminent was swallowed by the abyss, its monstrous form disappearing into the dark depths. The ocean stilled, the storm fading into an eerie calm. For a moment, there was only silence. Then, the deck erupted into cheers. The passengers hugged one another, their faces alight with relief and joy. Nya descended gently to the deck, the last traces of her power fading as her feet touched the wood. Kai rushed to her side, pulling her into a tight embrace. "You did it," he said, his voice thick with pride.
She smiled, her exhaustion clear but her confidence radiant. "No," she replied softly. "We did it. Together."
With the Curse World gone, there was peace in Ninjago; the ninja were celebrating their victory. Yet, amidst the cheers and joy, Morro lingered in the shadows, away from the festivities. His gaze remained fixed on the horizon as if searching for something beyond reach. The weight of his past mistakes hung heavy on his shoulders, and though he had fought alongside the ninja, he knew redemption wasn't easily earned. Tina and Lloyd exchanged glances, noticing Morro's isolation. Without a word, they made their way over to him. Lloyd placed a reassuring hand on Morro's shoulder. "You know, you don't have to stand in the dark anymore," he said gently. "You helped save Ninjago. That counts for something."
Morro exhaled, his eyes clouded with doubt. "I don't think everyone sees it that way, Lloyd. After everything I've done... maybe I don't deserve to stand in the light."
Tina crossed her arms and gave him a small smile. "You made mistakes. But standing here now, after everything, you're still trying. That means more than you think."
Before Morro could respond, Sensei Wu approached quietly, his calm presence commanding attention. He studied his former student with a mixture of wisdom and understanding. "Morro, the past can weigh heavily on the soul, but it is our choices now that define who we truly are. You have taken the first step, but redemption is not a path walked alone."
Morro lowered his gaze. "Sensei... I don't know if I can ever make up for it."
Wu placed a gentle hand on Morro's shoulder. "Redemption is not measured by the approval of others, but by the choices you make moving forward. Stay, learn, and perhaps one day, you will find the peace you seek."
Morro hesitated for a moment, then nodded slowly. "I'll try."
Lloyd grinned. "That's all we ask."
As the celebrations continued in the background, Morro took a tentative step forward, finally willing to consider that maybe—just maybe—his story wasn't over yet.
