Eddy, Takashi, and Kohta were looking outside of the balcony. Eddy and Takashi were just enjoying the night sky before turning their heads to a nearby scream. Their eyes widen as they see a female survivor being eaten alive by the undead. They also saw other survivors being eaten as well.
"Dammit..." Takashi cursed. "I wish I could help them..."
Eddy sighed. "We all do, buddy. But we can't risk letting our group get compromised."
Konrad soon came in, having vented out his frustrations to Saeko earlier about taking a living person's life. He had disengaged his nanosuit and was now decked in his regular clothes.
"Hey guys, what's up."
"It's looking grim out there," Kohta explained.
Konrad grimaced in understanding. "I don't want to let them die, but we have to think about what is best for our group."
"But we have to do something!" Takashi insisted.
"Maybe we can…" Kohta muttered.
"I think I see what he's saying," Eddy said, looking through some binoculars. "Look towards the river one street to the right. You guys see the police car with the dead officer in the driver's seat?"
"Yup. The car seems intact. What do you think the chances are that the driver still has the keys?" Konrad asked.
The four boys could see a small fishing pier thirty yards away from it that they figured was just wide enough and more than strong enough to hold the car.
"What say we provide some community service, boys?" Eddy asked with a smirk.
Takashi cocked his shotgun. "You know it. What's the plan?"
"Simple; we give the dead something to go after."
Saeko stepped forward. "I'm coming too, you could use some close-up skill out there."
"Same here. I got a few tools, and the Pipsqueak and I have been itching to try them." Matthew smirked as he stepped in.
Shizuka was given the task of moving the bus so the group of Konrad, Matthew, Eddy, Takashi, and Saeko could head out, only to suddenly hear shots from the balcony just as they were prepared to leave.
"Hirano! Report!"
"Civilians in trouble down the street! There's a little girl. I couldn't just let them die."
Konrad climbed on top of the Humvee and immediately saw what Kohta did. A little girl could be seen through the open gate crying over the body of what I assumed was her father.
"GET THAT GATE OPEN NOW!"
Eddy and Matthew nodded as they got out the Flaming Compensator, a modified blunderbuss that shot incendiary rounds, and the High Fidelity, a rapid-fire crossbow that shot ricocheting vinyl discs.
As they prepared to move, a little dog came to defend the girl from the encroaching zombies, followed by a young man with a unibrow, navy blue hair, and tanned skin carrying a hatchet that was very familiar to Eddy.
"ROLF?!"
"Hey, ain't that the funny foreign kid you're friends with?" Matthew asked. "Looks like he could use a hand. PUNCH IT!"
Takashi took the gunner port while Konrad got in the driver's seat and Saeko took shotgun. Eddy and Matthew braced themselves on the roof of the Humvee with their weapons in hand. A few of the others hurried to open the gate and Konrad's nanosuit formed over him as he power slid onto the road and gunned it for the girl's location.
There were too many zombies on the road to avoid so Konrad didn't bother as he ran down any in my way. The trip down the road was short and he, Saeko, Eddy, and Matthew jumped out to beat down nearby zombies and grab the little girl, the puppy, and Rolf.
"Greedy Ed-Boy!" Rolf exclaimed as he saw Eddy. "You live! And so does your barbaric elder brother!"
"Double-D and Lumpy are with us too," Eddy explained. "Boy am I glad to see you still among the living, Stretch!"
"C'mon sweetie we have to go," Konrad said gently to the little girl.
"But my daddy! We can't leave him!" She cried.
Konrad looked over her dad as Matthew, Saeko, and Takashi held off the horde with some sniper assistance from Kohta back on the balcony. Takashi's shotgun worked wonders as the spreading buckshot took out multiple zombies with each pull of the trigger while the records shot by Matthew's High Fidelity ricocheted and decapitated multiple zombies with the same shot.
"Geez, that looks pretty bad!" Eddy winced as he saw that the girl's father had been stabbed.
"Do not fret, Ed-Boy! Rolf was in the area along with little Zeke here and applied adequate aid to the fallen man." Rolf said as he gestured to the makeshift rough patch over the man's wound made from some clothes taken from a nearby drying line.
"Miss Shizuka will have to look at that," Eddy said. "But good job, Rolfy-Boy."
Konrad and Eddy helped carry the injured man into the backseat of the Humvee, the little girl, the puppy Zeke, and Rolf joining in as well. Once everyone was back in, Konrad stomped on the gas and floored it.
"We have a quick stop to make and then we're taking you back to our place."
"You've already done more than I could have hoped for. Thank you."
"Hey, wait a minute..." Eddy muttered as he recognized the injured man as he spoke. "Isn't he the guy who interviewed us last year?"
"Yeah..." Konrad said in recognition. "Shota Maresato? Huh, small world..."
The small group drove to the river, and it didn't take long to find the police car. Konrad parked behind it and told everyone to stay put as he went to investigate along with Matthew.
"Oooh, that's no good." Matthew winced as he saw what was inside the car.
The cop was definitely dead with a hole in his head and his gun in hand. Konrad took his gun and the spare ammo and dragged him out of the car. Luckily the keys were still in the ignition and the engine turned over on the first crank.
"Fuel tank is full. Perfect."
"I'll bury this poor dude. He deserves that much." Matthew said as he took the dead policeman.
As Matthew went to do his business, Konrad drove the car carefully onto the fishing pier and parked it near the end.
"This better work like I hope it will."
The military brat turned on the siren and lights and left the car running in park with the emergency brake on. Now that he had just rung the dinner bell, he hurried back to the Humvee and made my winding way back to the apartment.
"Couldn't bury him too deep, it'd take too long. But I did put a tarp over him." Matthew said, having also made it back to the Humvee.
The other students hurried to open the gate and shut and blocked it after the rescue group was through. Shizuka came out and she brought Mr. Maresato to the living room to treat his injury. Toshimi and Misuzu helped her and he was soon patched up and he and his daughter were moved into the master suite to rest.
"ROLF! YOU'RE ALIVE!" Ed cheered as he hugged the Son of a Shepard.
"It is good to see you survived as well, Bundtcake-For-Brains Ed-Boy!"
"Thank goodness..." Double-D sighed in relief.
Kyoko sat with them to update Mr. Maresato on everything. She also comforted his daughter Arisu, who immediately trusted her when she learned she was a teacher. She also took care of the poor girl when she admitted to peeing herself in the back of the Humvee, not that anybody could blame her.
As Konrad moved to check on Saeko, he suddenly bumped into Shido, who seemed greatly displeased.
"What's your problem?"
"We don't need any more people in this group. By bringing those three here, you took valuable supplies from the rest of us."
Shido was holding a knife behind his back, hoping Konrad would drop his nanosuit so he could go in for the kill. However, the military brat was unphased.
"She's a little girl, you slimeball."
"So? Survival of the fittest."
Konrad sharply inhaled through his nostrils. What Shido didn't know was that the nanosuit's Predator Vision easily allowed him to see the knife he was trying to hide. However, he decided to lure the scumbag into a false sense of security.
"Alright, you do have a point. In this new world, only the strong survive..."
Shido smirked, believing Konrad was agreeing with him finally. If that was the case, he'd make sure his death was painless.
"...And from what I'm seeing, you're not strong enough to back up your own shit."
Shido's eyes widened as his smile dropped, only for Konrad to punch him hard in the face before dragging him down to the basement. The scumbag screamed bloody murder as his nose was once again broken before being slammed onto a nearby desk used for handling ammo and guns before feeling his arms being chained to a nearby pipe.
"What are you doing?!"
"In this world, the weak have no place...and you qualify. You lie, you cheat, you bribe, and you blackmail to get what you want. Your strength is false, the only thing you have are your honeyed words...and they won't do anything here."
"Are you going to kill me?" Shido growled.
"No...tomorrow, the group is leaving...and you won't be part of it."
"WHAT?!"
Konrad turned to leave the basement, turning off the lights as he tossed the police gun he had taken earlier, making sure there was one bullet in it left.
"You have a choice; if any undead come here, you can play a futile game...or do the right thing and put that bullet through your skull."
"YOU HALFLING BASTARD! I'LL KILL YOU! I AM THE ONE WHO WILL LEAD US TO THE FUTURE! NOT YOU!" Shido screamed in fury as he struggled in his restraints, but Konrad paid him no heed as he locked the door behind him.
Meanwhile, Ed, Double-D, Eddy, Takashi, and Kohta could see from the balcony that the police car was already drawing zombies from all over. Masses of them were surging forward to get to the noise, pushing those in front of them off the narrow pier to their doom in the river below. Some on the other side of the river were also staggering towards the noise. Many of those were losing their footing on the steep bank of the far side and a few landed on their heads and didn't rise again. Those that did get back up kept moving toward the noise, lost their footing in the strong current, and were carried away by the swift river filled with large rocks.
"Wish we had some popcorn with us!" Eddy chuckled as he watched the show before him.
"We'll have to think of ways to use this to our advantage, fellows," Double-D noted.
"At least we'll be able to sleep easier tonight," Takashi said.
"I'll keep watch. You guys get some rest." Kohta smiled.
"I hope tomorrow I can use this new suit my Grandpa left me!" Ed said, still decked out in the suit left to him by his grandfather.
Kohta grinned. "Oh yeah, all those guns are just sick!"
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to everyone, somewhere far away in one of the headquarters owned by the Umbrella Corporation, a tall man in a black trenchcoat and shades with blonde hair was watching over a monitor with a frustrated look.
"It seems Project Alcatraz has been released. No matter, my plans can adapt to these issues." He said calmly as he turned and walked away. "Dr. Hayden, you couldn't leave well enough alone..."
Rolf has joined the party, Arisu and Zeke the Dog are also joining and Arisu's Dad survives! Also, it seems Shido has been thrown aside and locked away like the rat he is.
Also, who is the mysterious figure at the end there? Well, you Resident Evil Fans can take a wild guess.
