The shadowy forms closed in as Trench and Reyes fought their way through the alien landscape. Each shot fired from their Bureau-issued weapons sent the figures scattering, but the reprieve was always brief. The figures seemed endless, a tide of entities bound to protect the looming structure ahead.

"They're stalling us," Reyes shouted over the din, reloading her weapon. "Whatever's in that structure doesn't want us to get close."

Trench fired a burst, dispersing another cluster of shadows. "Then we don't give it the chance to stop us. Keep moving!"

The air grew heavier as they approached the base of the structure. The tendrils of light and shadow stretched toward them, pulsating with Resonance Energy that made their dampeners strain under the pressure. The closer they got, the more the ground beneath them seemed to warp and shift, as though the reality they stood on was barely holding together.

Finally, they reached the base of the structure. A massive, arching doorway stood before them, its surface covered in shifting glyphs that seemed to pulse in time with the Resonance Energy around them. The hum was deafening now, a vibration that resonated in their very bones.

Reyes placed a hand on the doorway, her fingers tracing the glowing glyphs. "This isn't just a door," she said. "It's some kind of barrier."

"Can you get us through?" Trench asked, keeping his weapon trained on the shadows that lingered at the edges of their vision.

Reyes nodded, pulling a small device from her pack. "I can destabilize it, but it'll take a minute. Cover me."

As Reyes worked, the shadows began to close in once more, their movements frantic and erratic. Trench stepped forward, his weapon blazing as he held the line. Each shot sent ripples through the entities, but the strain of constant defense was taking its toll.

"Reyes, whatever you're doing, do it faster!" he shouted.

"Almost there!" she replied, her voice tight with concentration.

A sudden surge of energy erupted from the doorway as the glyphs flared brightly. The shadows recoiled, their forms dissolving into the air. Reyes stepped back, a look of grim satisfaction on her face.

"It's open," she said.

Trench nodded, his jaw set. "Then let's end this."

Together, they stepped through the archway, into the heart of the rift.
