Sorry guys, I posted this chapter this morning when I was a little hungover, yes on a thursday I know I was going through something, and after sobering up a bit I realized I didn't edit it. It's basically the same since I know everyone probably already read it just a little more edited.

Third person view

The next morning, around the killing arena was a large crowd of Vikings all cheering and chanting Hiccup's name as Stoick stood on a large stage.

"Well I feel I can finally show my face in public again!" He joked as the crowd laughed alongside him.

"If somebody had told me that in a few short weeks, Hiccup would go from... Uh well being... Hiccup, to acting more like his brother and placing first in dragon training! Well I would've tied them to a mast and shipped off in fear he'd gone mad! And you know it!" Stoick yelled with a laugh and smile before he raised a hand silencing the laughing crowd.

"But here we are. And nobody's more surprised or more proud than I am" he said as Hiccup stood in the ramp of the training area as his father's voice echoed in.

"Today, my boy becomes a Viking. Today, he becomes one of us!" Stoick yelled as the crowd once again erupted in cheers. As Hiccup watched the crowd cheer, he felt someone touch his back and turned to see Astrid standing there.

"Be careful with that dragon" she said.

"It's not the dragon I'm worried about" he said watching as his father took a seat on a large throne beside the arena with a perfect view inside.

"What are you gonna do?" She asked.

"Put an end to this. I have to try" he said before he turned to his new friend.

"Astrid, if something goes wrong, just make sure they don't find Toothless" he instructed as she nodded.

"I will... Just... Promise me it won't go wrong" she said. However before Hiccup could promise her, DJ and Gobber rounded the corner exiting the arena and Hiccup quickly went silent.

"Alright, weapons are in there and everything is all set up" DJ said as Gobber nodded.

"Knock em dead, Hiccup" Gobber said walking up the ramp as DJ began following, after giving Astrid and Hiccup weird looks since they weren't arguing or scowling at each other.

"DJ!" Hiccup said turning to his brother who stopped and turned back.

"Promise me you won't jump in, no matter what" Hiccup said. At this, DJ scoffed.

"Hiccup, if you're in trouble, I'm gonna-" he began before Hiccup cut him off.

"DJ" he said as the older boy sighed and nodded.

"Fine, unless you are in life ending danger, I won't jump in" DJ said with a smirk before he turned to walk away.

"DJ!" Hiccup said as his brother sighed and turned again with a slight smile on his face.

"... Nothing's gonna change between us right? You know, afterwards?" Hiccup asked gesturing with his head towards the arena.

At this, DJ dropped his smile and came forwards and placed his hands on Hiccup's shoulders.

"Hiccup, win or lose in that arena. Kill the beast or get saved by me. Nothing is ever going to change our bond" he said before he hugged Hiccup tightly.

They separated after a few seconds and DJ rubbed his head playfully before the older boy turned and exited the ramp, making his way along the arena towards their father while Hiccup entered the arena, putting on the helmet his father had given him earlier, making the crowd get louder.

Behind him the gate closed and Astrid was left standing on the ramp staring through the bars with worry in her eyes.

Hiccup walked over to the large wooden plank that had a variety of weapons on it and grabbed just a shield and a short sword as his weapon.

"Hmmm, I would've gone for the hammer" Stoick said rubbing his beard, talking to Gobber who was on his right.

"Yeah, but you can lift the hammer" DJ joked as he sat down to the left his father as Gobber, and Stoick cracked smiles before they all looked at the large pen that held the Nightmare.

Hiccup took a deep breath and nodded.

"I'm ready" he said to himself but also to the Vikings working the crank for the door.

Two Vikings began using the crank and the huge thick log that held the door shut was raised and for a few seconds, it was silent...

Suddenly an already on fire Nightmare bursts through the unlocked doors and roared loudly, the insides of the doors on fire as well.

It flew to the wall and crawled along it before it shot fire at the Vikings behind the chained roof who got out of the way just in time as Hiccup watched with horror and fear in his eyes.

"Nightmare's pretty savage today" DJ muttered, every muscle in his body telling him to grab his axe and jump into the arena.

"Your brother has this. Don't worry" Stoick said interested as to how his son will slay the beast.

It crawled upside down on the chained roof, putting out the fire on its body to reveal it was orange and red, before it spotted Hiccup and dropped down to the ground in front of him, growling savagely as everyone got ready for the fight.

"Go on Hiccup!"

"Give it to him!"

However much to their shock, Hiccup dropped his sword and shield while backing away and put his hands out to the dragon.

Stoick, Gobber and DJ all watched with shock in their eyes. He was leaving himself defenseless against one of the most dangerous dragons among the common ones that raided Berk.

"What's he doing?" Stoick asked.

"Like many other times, I don't know" DJ said interested and fear both filling his eyes.

Around them, the crowd was also confused and becoming a little restless.

"Hey, it's okay. It's okay" Hiccup said still backing up as the Nightmare continued approaching with narrowed eyes.

Hiccup remembered he had on a metal helmet with horns on it which was probably the first thing most dragons saw on a Viking when they raided.

He took it off his head and held it for a few seconds, building up confidence as to what he needed to do.

"I'm not one of them" he said tossing his helmet to the side.

Upon doing that, the dragon's eyes softened more, however the crowd of Vikings became shocked at the action, Stoick even rising from his throne in shock at what his son had just done.

"Stop the fight" he said.

"No" DJ and Hiccup both said at the same time, the older of the two's eyes never leaving the arena.

"I wanna see where this is going" he added as Stoick looked over shocked.

"I need you all to see this" Hiccup said sternly looking around at the crowd.

"They're not what we think they are. We don't have to kill them" Hiccup said outstretching a single hand to the Nightmare who calmly inched his head closer to the hand.

"I said stop the fight!" Stoick yelled slamming his hammer against metal bars of the arena. As the loud clang echoed out, the Nightmare's eyes turned back into narrow slits as it remembered sounds like it from raids right before an attack.

Hiccup quickly retracted his hand just as the Nightmare's jaws snapped shut where it had been and he ran and dodged a fire blast just in time.

In the cove, Toothless' head jerked up from a deep sleep as Hiccup's scream barely reached the cove but it was still enough to recognize his human friend was in danger.

"Out of my way!" DJ yelled pushing past Vikings to get to the gate as Stoick followed him.

"What in Niflheim were you thinking?!" DJ yelled as they ran.

"He said he wasn't one of us!" Stoick yelled out.

"That dragon was as calm as a sheep!" DJ fired back.

"Hiccup!" he heard Astrid scream and turned to see Hiccup still running away from the Nightmare as she used an axe to wedge the get open and crawled under.

Toothless was now at the wall of the cove, jumping and trying to claw his way out, determination flooding his body.

Finally, he managed to get a paw on a ledge and dig his claws in deep.

Hiccup dodged another blast of fire and ran to the weapons rack just in time to get a shield before it was stomped on by the Nightmare.

Now in the forest, Toothless' alternated between running at full speed and flying what short distances he could as he tracked his friend's screams of terror.

Stoick and DJ got to the first gate leading down the ramp and immediately the older Viking threw it open with ease and the two ran down the ramp.

DJ didn't even wait for Stoick, or stop running for that matter, and threw himself low to the ground and slid under the gap Astrid had made with the axe that was still in the door, scraping his body hard against both gate and floor but made it through.

"Hiccup!" Astrid yelled as the Nightmare still chased Hiccup. She and DJ immediately had the same thought and ran to the destroyed rack of weapons.

Astrid grabbed a small hammer and DJ grabbed a shield and both threw their objects at the Nightmare.

The two things hit the dragon in the head and knocked it to the ground before it turned its attention from Hiccup to them, charging angrily.

Astrid ran away to dodge like Hiccup had been doing but DJ charged forwards, sliding under the dragon making its head spin at the multiple running targets.

Stoick finally managed to get the second gate open and lifted it up high enough for the three to get through.

"This way!" He yelled waving them over as Astrid changed directions and dodged a blast of fire.

She made it to the chief who held her protectively in his arms before he reached out to Hiccup who was next to get to him. However a fire blast to the wall beside the opening prevented him from exiting and he was forced to turn around and run the other way.

This blast also made the door slam shut again but this time, Stoick could not make it budge when he tried to lift it.

"Hurry!" Astrid yelled despite talking to the chief.

"I'm trying, it's stuck! he groaned as she grabbed an axe to help him like she had done before.

Meanwhile Hiccup ran but was tackled and pinned beneath the Nightmare's foot, his talons barely missing the boy as his shield went flying.

However as it bent down to take a bite, it found its jaws closed as DJ leapt on the shout and used his legs to keep it closed as he pounded on its skull with fists.

This caused the Nightmare to also move its foot, releasing Hiccup who backed up in shock watching his brother and the dragon fight.

DJ knew that he could easily kill the dragon, but if there was a way his brother could call it down, that would definitely benefit the village.

DJ quickly jumped off just as the Nightmare lit itself up again before DJ threw one of his axes at the dragon who immediately watched the axe.

However it soared past the dragon and into the wall, falling with a clang. The dragon turned back, slightly huffing, only to find the two boys were nowhere in sight.

As it sniffed around for them, the two were revealed to be hiding behind a wooden plank that was also set in the arena to use as cover for the test.

"Gods, DJ I'm so sorry. This is all going wrong!" Hiccup said, panicking in a low voice as to not give away their position.

"It was fine until father hit the bars. Before that, I was impressed like you wouldn't believe. I mean you had that thing so calm!" DJ said with a small smile.

"Really? Okay, that's great" Hiccup said returning the small smile before they heard a roar getting closer to them.

"Okay, so what now?" Hiccup said. However before DJ could answer, they heard growling and looked up to see the Nightmare had found them and was peaking over the top of the platform.

"Dodge!" He yelled grabbing Hiccup and rolling to the side just as the dragon shot a blast of hot fire right where they had been.

They stopped rolling and DJ took out his other axe, seeing that their father still could get the door open and he was starting to doubt that Hiccup could calm the dragon down at this point.

However they suddenly heard a loud shrill whistle that echoed throughout the area.

"Toothless?" Hiccup said in shock as DJ turned to him, remembering he had been so close to calming and possibly taming the Nightmare. He then remembered that his brother always disappeared for sometimes the whole day into the woods ever since...

"Okay, but I hit a Night Fury"

"You didn't" DJ said in shock as Hiccup just smiled sheepishly.

Suddenly a black blur jumped over a the crowd and shot a blast at the cage roof, easily blowing a hole in it and covering the Nightmare and two boys in smoke and the blur which entered the smoke so fast nobody could tell what it was.

From up above, once everyone recovered from the blast that was so close to them, they could only see some movements from wings in the smoke as roars of pain and fighting echoed out.

Suddenly Toothless and the Nightmare fell out of the fading smoke and into view for everyone to see.

"Night Fury!" Gobber said in shock as Toothless and the Nightmare wrestled. However the Nightmare was bigger and was able to throw Toothless off his back and pin him to the ground belly up.

"No! Toothless!" Hiccup yelled as DJ looked back and forth between the dragons and Hiccup, everything still sinking in. Especially since now he could even see the saddle on the dragon.

However one thing he did know was that his brother deeply cared for the Night Fury and it obviously cared deeply for his brother.

With a roar, DJ ran at the Nightmare and jumped on its snout again, using his legs to keep the mouth shut. This shocked the Nightmare again who backed off of Toothless and shook its head rapidly to get the human off.

Once DJ saw 'Toothless' had gotten onto his feet, he tried once more to jump off the dragon like he had done last time.

However the dragon saw this coming and once the boy jumped, its jaws were open and grabbed his one foot.

"Ah Shit" was all DJ could mumble with wide eyes before the dragon turned and whipped him across the arena, into one of the wooden platform which shattered upon impact.

"DJ!" Hiccup yelled rushing to his brother's side. However DJ's eyes were closed and he didn't respond to the shaking Hiccup did.

A growl from behind him caught his attention and he turned to see Toothless was in between them and the Nightmare, both roaring loudly.

Whenever the Nightmare tried to attack, Toothless would lunge and keep it at bay. Finally, the Nightmare decided this fight wasn't worth it and retreated back to the safety of its pen, away from the more feared dragon.

However once the doors were closed and the log was put back into place, Hiccup quickly ran to Toothless and tried pushing his head.

"Alright Toothless go, get outta here!" Hiccup said as Vikings grabbed their weapons and began jumping through the gaps between the chains, eager at the chance to kill a dragon they had never even seen until now.

"Go! Go!" Hiccup pleaded. Stoick, who had just gotten the gate open, grabbed an axe off the wall and also charged in.

"Dad! Dad, he won't hurt you!" Hiccup said. However Stoick ignored him and kept charging which made survival instincts in Toothless kick in.

Toothless charged towards the leader of the Vikings, using his tail and wings to kick away countless other Vikings before he tackled Stoick. The two rolled until Toothless was on-top of Stoick who tried to use his arms to push the dragon off but found it was useless.

"Toothless, stop!" Hiccup yelled as Vikings with shields surrounded the pair.

Toothless opened his mouth wide and green gas appeared in the back of his throat.

"No, No!" Hiccup yelled and this snapped Toothless out of his fury and he immediately closed his mouth, swallowing back the shot he had been arming.

He turned to his human companion, his eyes going from slits to normal pupils that Hiccup was used to seeing. However someone used that moment to throw a hammer at Toothless' head and Spitelout grabbed his dazed head and forced it to the ground as multiple Vikings piled on his body so he couldn't get away or attack again.

"No, no, no. Just please don't hurt him!" Hiccup pleaded as Astrid grabbed him and held him back from rushing to the fight.

Stoick stood up, dazed from the attack and his brush with death, and a Viking offered him an axe to finish off the beast. However Stoick pushed the axe away and stared at the dragon with rage.

"Put it with the others" he said before he looked at Hiccup with fury in his eyes. Hiccup looked down in shame before his head shot up and fear filled his eyes instead.

"DJ!" He yelled turning and running away from Toothless who was still struggling. Stoick's eyes widened as well as he remembered seeing his eldest thrown into a wooden platform and also followed Hiccup.

Hiccup got to DJ fiirst, who still hadn't moved, and found Gobber was kneeling over him. He looked over his shoulder and nodded at both father and son who's eyes were filled with worry.

"He's alive. But he's out colder than me after Snoggletog celebrations" he commented. Hiccup went to kneel by DJ as well but found a large hand around his one arm, preventing him from moving, courtesy of his dad.

"Get him to the healers" Stoick instructed as Gobber nodded and picked DJ's limp body up before carrying him out of the arena.

Stoick then turned his attention to Hiccup and snarled, bringing him close to his face.

"You. Me. Talk. Now!" He said through gritted teeth before he pulled Hiccup out of the arena as a restrained Toothless was placed in an unoccupied pen.

Timeskip

Hiccup was roughly thrown into the empty Great Hall, barely keeping on his feet, as Stoick followed, slamming the door behind him however it didn't shut, but at that moment, he didn't care.

"I should've known. I should've seen the signs. It's just like her all over again" he said to himself as he walked past a very worried Hiccup.

"Dad-" Hiccup tried but was cut off.

"We had a deal!" He yelled.

"I-I know we did. But that- that was before I... Ah... It's all so messed up" Hiccup said with his hands on his head.

"So everything in the ring, a trick? A lie?!" Stoick asked but turned around not waiting for an answer he already had.

"I screwed up! I-I-I should've told you and DJ before now. I- just- you... Take this out on me, be mad at me, but please, just don't hurt Toothless" Hiccup said. However that was the wrong thing to ask right now as Stoick rounded on his son.

"The dragon?" He asked before turning fully.

"That's what you're worried about?! Not the people you almost killed?! Or your brother who you really almost killed?!" Stoick yelled.

"Toothless was just protecting me and it was the Nightmare that hurt DJ who jumped in and saved Toothless. He's not dangerous!" Hiccup pointed out.

"They've killed hundreds of us!" Stoick pointed out.

"Yeah, and we've killed thousands of them!" Hiccup yelled back as Stoick was slightly taken back.

"They defend themselves, that's all" Hiccup added as Stoick paced and tried to find the words but nothing came to his mind right now.

"They raid us because they have to. If they don't bring enough food back, they'll be eaten themselves. There's something else on their island, dad" Hiccup said as Stoick froze and turned to his son with wide eyes at what he just said.

"It's a dragon-" he began but Stoick cut him off.

" 'Their island?' so you've been to the nest?" Stoick asked in a low whisper.

"Did- Did I say 'nest?' " Hiccup tried but Stoick wasn't convinced.

"How did you find it?!" Stoick yelled walking forwards as Hiccup backed up.

"No, I-I didn't. Toothless did. Only a dragon can find the island" Hiccup said. Stoick's eyes went wide before narrowing in thought as he straightened up and Hiccup could immediately tell what he was thinking.

"Oh, no, no, no, dad! No, Please, it's not what you think. You don't know what you're up against. It's like... Nothing you've ever seen" Hiccup pleaded, however Stoick just pushed past him and walked towards the doors.

"Dad, please! I promise you can't win this one. Dad no" Hiccup said however Stoick just kept walking.

"For once in your life, will you please just listen to me!?" Hiccup yelled running forwards and trying to grab at Stoick's arm but the larger man easily threw his son off.

Hiccup fell on the ground and stared up as Stoick turned to him.

"You've thrown your lot in with them. You're not a Viking" he said as Hiccup panted heavily and tears streamed down his face.

"You're not my son" he added turning and walking out the door leaving a shocked Hiccup on the ground.

"Ready the ships!" Stoick yelled closing the door, leaving a shocked and sad Hiccup in the mostly dark Great Hall who immediately looked down and let the tears fall fully from his face.

His brother was injured badly and unconscious.

His best friend was captured and penned and was more than likely going to be used to find the dragon's island.

His father was going to sail the whole island to their deaths and he had basically just been disowned.

Everything was so wrong at this moment.

Outside Stoick breathed heavily and took a few stumbling steps, his eyes also wide in shock at what he had just said as it was one of the hardest things he has ever had to do.

However he quickly put back on his normal confident look for his warriors and marched down to the docks, with a look of determination on his face

This was when they finally ended this.
