Ours is the Fury:

Stannis' Camp:

Stannis Baratheon had left Castle Black and the Wall with his army. Despite all efforts, he had not been able to gather an army among the Wildlings despite promises to them and even burning their King beyond the Wall. With nothing else at the Wall, Stannis had marched out with his army from the Wall and had made camp near the Northern Mountains to take cover from a huge snowstorm. The camp was in a good strategic location, the mountains were a natural defence and there was a freshwater stream nearby for water. However the men were not use to the cold having spent their whole lives down south where the Winter was not as bad. Davos Seaworth rode through the camp to see that the men were miserable, despite the victories gained by Stannis' new allies, their own personal army was not in the best condition. Stannis wanted to march on Winterfell but the heavy snow was causing many problems.

Davos soon arrived at Stannis' tent where his advisors including Melisandre and his new northern allies, Ramsay Snow, Arnolf Karstark, Ludd Whitehill and Hother Umber. Davos didn't really like any of them, Ramsay was a savage, Arnolf and Ludd were greedy and ambitious while Hother only sided with them for the sake of his nephew, Lord Greatjon Umber who was still being held prisoner at the Twins.

"40 horses died during the night." Davos explained to them "We may lose more come sunset, none of them are fit for this winter weather. We have a hard march to Winterfell and we aren't going anywhere in this weather."

Hother sighed "He's right, even for us Winter is hard, it's nearly impossible to fight in these conditions."

Davos nodded "We should head back to Castle Black when the snow clears." He suggested "Wait out the Winter."

Stannis shook his head "Winter could last 5 years." He stated "I retreated from King's Landing, if I retreat again then I'll become the King who ran. We march to victory or we march to defeat."

Arnolf had a suggestion "Your Grace, if I may, maybe we don't need to march to Winterfell. There are other targets, for example it would seem that the Stark sisters are currently in White Harbour, if we can take the city then we can secure valuable hostages as also a strategic port to bring in more supplies."

"A good plan." Ramsay agreed

"But one problem." Davos stated "White Harbour is even further than Winterfell, it could take us a long time to march there."

"We do control the eastern coastline though." Arnolf added "We wouldn't risk being ambushed and if we can make it to the Dreadfort, we would threaten White Harbour and force the Starks to make a move on us, force them into our territory."

Stannis could see the reason behind that plan, it was a sound strategy and he nodded "Fine, once we finished securing the Wolfswood, then we march to the Dreadfort. We will need the wood for our army."

Lord Ludd sighed "The Starks know this as well." He said "My son Gryff rode out foolishly believing that he could just take Ironrath, now he's imprisoned. He could never learn to keep his mouth shut, they may know our plans now."

"It is still too important to leave the Wolfswood." Stannis said "As soon as the snows clear we march west, we take as much wood there as we can and then we march to the Dreadfort, we'll split our forces there to threaten White Harbour."

"A siege there would be pointless though." Davos pointed out "We have no ships for a siege and White Harbour would be able to bring in supplies."

"Still threatening the city may force the Starks to make a move where we have the advantage." Stannis said "Now leave me."

The advisors all left with the exception of the Red Priestess Melisandre, she had been with Stannis since the start of his campaign, a Priestess of the Red God R'hllor from Essos. She had come to try and convert people and had success with Stannis' followers. Stannis could believe her magical powers as she had created a Shadow Clone to take out his traitorous brother Renly. But now he had begun to doubt himself and her.

"I trusted in your visions for years." He said in a low voice "And your prophecies."

"You saw them yourself when you looked into the flames." Melisandre replied "A great battle in the snow. And the bastard Jon Snow says about the White Walkers and the Wights. That means the prophecy is coming true, you are Azor Ahai. Trust yourself and have faith."

"Faith?" Stannis scoffed "When I was a boy, I watched from the balcony of Storm's End while my parents die in a shipwreck during a storm. I served my brother loyally for years when he rebelled and I never got any recognition, only contempt. I trusted in your visions and they led me to failure at the Blackwater, now I'm mocked all over the Seven Kingdoms, I had to make a deal with men who turned on their own lord just to gain an advantage again, I answered the Call of the Nights Watch yet I get nothing."

Melisandre smiled ans stroked Stannis' chest "Sometimes sacrifices must be made to ensure victory. I have shown you the power of the king's blood. You threw 3 leaches into the fire and soon all 3 usurpers you named died, Joffrey Baratheon, Robb Stark and now Balon Greyjoy."

It was true, Balon Greyjoy had recently died and from the reports he fell off one of Pyke's rope bridges during a storm. "We don't have my brother's bastard here."

Melisandre smiled "There is another with King's Blood right here in the camp. You are Azor Ahai reborn, he suffered losses during the fight against the Great Other and in the end to ensure victory, he had to make the ultimate sacrifice, his wife Nissa Nissa."

Stannis could only widen his eyes in shock at what Melisandre was suggesting "No." He stated firmly "No, not her, she is the one good thing I have left." After a few moments of silence "Get out." Melisandre just nodded and left the tent, not noticing that someone had been listening in to the conversation.

Davos Seaworth had decided to stay and listen to the conversation outside the tent flaps. He had served Stannis for many years since Robert's Rebellion where he had helped Storm's End survive the siege by smuggling food into the castle. He had listened to Stannis since the war began and served loyally but he had been concerned about Melisandre's influence over him and the deals he had been making. He did not trust the Boltons or any of their allies. He was horrified at what he had just heard, Melisandre was suggesting to sacrifice Shireen. When Melisandre had left, Davos had hid and glared at the woman as she walked away. He thought about trying to kill the woman but knew that he would probably fail, after all he had tried before and that didn't work out. Plus Maester Cressen who had been a father figure to Stannis had also poisoned her but she had survived the poison. Davos knew he couldn't stay any longer, Stannis was no longer the man he had know, he had to do something he never thought of doing but he was not going alone.

In another tent, Stannis' daughter Shireen sat on her bed reading a book. She was the only child of Stannis and his wife, Selyse of House Florent. The two did not love each other but Stannis had been a loyal husband to his wife. Selyse didn't feel any love for Shireen, she saw herself as a failure for failing to produce any sons for Stannis, she had 3 stillbirths and she believed that she had been cursed as on her wedding day, Stannis' brother King Robert had deflowered one of Selyse's cousins in their wedding bed. She had turned to the faith of R'hllor as a result. To make things worse for Shireen, as an infant, she had contracted a deadly contagious disease call greyscale. Stannis had called every healer he could find which saved Shireen's life but it left the left side of her face covered in scars. She had grown use to being lonely with no one else other than her father and Davos. Stannis couldn't leave her behind on Dragonstone or at Castle Black so he had brought her along.

Right now she was doing one of the things she loved, reading books, she loved hearing about adventures and history. Right now she was reading a book about the Dance of the Dragons, a war between 2 rival claimants for the Iron Throne, Rhaenyra Targaryen and her half brother Aegon II Targaryen, it was a bloody war where thousands died and nearly all of the Targaryen Dragons died with only a 3 known adults surviving and they had not been seen since. Some say that this war was the beginning of the end for the Targaryens but even after the war, there still were some good kings such as Daeron II.

"Shireen." Davos called getting Shireen's attention from her book. Shireen laughed and ran up to hug him. Davos smiled at Shireen's innocent clearly being unaffected by everything that was going on. It broke his heart at what he had to do but he knew that this was for the best and it would save her life.

"Davos, are we going through some more lessons?" Shireen asked innocently

Davos sighed, he didn't know how to break the news to her and then he decided that he wouldn't tell her about what he had just heard. "How are you doing Shireen?" he asked

"I'm fine." Shireen replied "Mother didn't want me here but father couldn't leave me. Too exposed at Dragonstone and surrounded by bad men at Castle Black. I still don't like it here, not because of the cold but of the stares for those men with the flayed men. That boy scares me with the way he looks at me."

Davos looked murderous, how dare Ramsay Snow eye Shireen like that, he hated the sadist murdering bastard and thought it was a bad idea to ally with him but Stannis needed allies. Davos soon realised that he could use this "Your father doesn't like him either." He said "That's why he's asked me to get you away from here. He's made arrangements to get you to a safe haven. Tell no one, your father doesn't want anyone to get suspicious so he can't come and see you off. Pack your stuff, I will escort you at nightfall so we won't be seen."

Shireen nodded in reply and Davos knew that he had done it. Shireen trusted him and that worked in his favour, he hated that he had to use that to manipulate her but it was better than the alternative. He knew that there was only 1 place that they could be safe, he just hoped that they wouldn't kill him on sight when he arrived.

Chapter End:

Notes: Well this chapter was quite short and only showed 1 scene. I wanted to do more but I realized that the other planned scene would have just been a repeat of the last one. The next chapter on this will probably also be short but then we will have the first battle for the north between the Starks and Stannis. Remember though even though Stannis has more men, it is still winter and it is very difficult to fight in winter even with modern weapons and in medieval warfare, it was even harder as more men would often die of cold than of battle wounds but don't expect this war to go completely in the Stark's favour.
