Lucifer stood facing the angelic court. They all stared down at him, different expressions on their faces. A whole range of emotions but all making one thing clear. He wasn't like them.
He'd always been an outcast. He had bright ideas for humanity and Heaven. He'd just wanted to make things better. Instead, he was shunned. Told his ideas were dangerous or idiotic.
They're idiotic, he thought. Idiotic with no imagination.
He looked up and couldn't help but smile. Lilith. Another thing others said was idiotic. He'd fallen in love with a human. Yes, they'd replaced her with Eve but they still blamed him.
He was blamed for everything. Even when it wasn't his fault. Well… at least mostly not his fault.
"Lucifer, we are here to again speak about your… ideas. You wish to give Adam and Eve free will," the head seraphim said.
Gasps and murmurs filled the room but Lucifer tried not to let it bother him.
"Why? Why give them that?"
"Why not? They could do so much good if they could do what they want," Lucifer replied, Lilith's smile giving him the courage to do so.
"And if they do not?"
"Have faith, Sera. Humanity was made in God's image, was it not? Give it a chance."
Sera looked down at him and held her head higher.
"I'm sorry Lucifer but I cannot allow it. There's too much danger."
Lucifer felt his heart stop. "But…"
Sera held up her hand. "I won't hear any more about it. This is my final answer. You're already on thin ice, Lucifer. Tread carefully from here on out."
Lucifer felt the fight in him die as he looked at the ground. He'd failed. He'd failed Lilith. He took a breath as an idea formed. He would not fail again.
Back when Lucifer was in Heaven if you couldn't tell. But off, all the angst coming in future stories you're gonna hate me for.
