Chapter thirty-one:

The convey to the warehouse was being led by Gwen's Silver people carrier with Ianto, Jack and Private Robert Hengraves driving much to Gwen's annoyance. The UNIT soldier promised he would be leaving in one of the army vehicles once they arrived at the warehouse but whilst the bodies were in UNIT vehicles he would be the one in charge of the drive there.

Behind them were two large black vans containing the five bodies safely inside their portable freezers. Behind them in her red Skoda Fabia was Felicity, Jorden, Kennedy, and Jessica which had greatly worried the UNIT soldiers allowing the maverick Torchwood wannabes to drive alone however Ianto had insisted that Felicity be left with her team.

Inside the Skoda it had been quiet beside Jessica's updates on rift activity levels, Kennedy was driving with Jessica in the passenger seat. Jorden and Felicity sat in the back their hands touching "You know you never did let me discuss a pay rise?" Jorden says a smirk on his face.

Felicity smiles in spite of the tension in her body "I don't pay you" she replies letting the smile grow.

Jorden prods her arm with his free hand "Exactly, appalling working conditions I should sue" he leans forward kissing her lightly on the cheek "Pay rise after this is over, right?"

Felicity looks at him then at the front seats "Maybe…" her smile has faded now; Jessica meets her eyes in the rear-view mirror.

"Boss, can I speak frankly?" she murmurs.

Felicity nods so Jessica twists around in her seat to face her "These last six months have been my favourite ever. I never fit in anywhere before, not really and I guess I never really tried that hard but I loved being Torchwood for a bit." Tears are visible in both women's eyes and they jump slightly when Kennedy laughs.

"Makes it sound like its over after today" he looks in the rearview to look at Felicity's face then frowns when he sees the tears.

The group look at one another meaningfully as silence fills the car.

In the people carrier the atmosphere was more upbeat. Private Robert Hengraves in the driving seat with Gwen, Jack and Ianto sat in the passenger seats together. The group having reminisced and made jokes mainly at Jack's expense the whole journey.

"Most exciting planet you've been, come on?" Ianto says for the third time looking challengingly at Jack who rolls his eyes.

"I've been alive over two hundred years basically give or take a few, you want me to pick one place?" he raises an eyebrow.

Gwen smiles "Go on Jack, we aren't to know either way if it's true anyway" she nods at Ianto who nods back smiling.

"Gang up on me then" Jack pouts "I suppose there was that one planet I accidentally travelled to when I got my calculations wrong" he points at the vortex manipulator "Was aiming for a planet called Tabernaque basically one huge pub, got it wrong don't even know the name of the planet I did end up on but it was made of…" he looks at them both with a cheeky look.

"What?" Gwen can't help but prompt.

"Bananas" Jack replies triumphantly, Ianto frowns mouthing bananas whilst Gwen instantly exclaims "Fuck off."

Ianto leans forward his face centimetres from Jack's face "Surely, there is something more exciting than Bananas" he smiles.

Jack smiles "I like bananas. Bananas are good." His smile widening at a memory.

Gwen just laughs and points at the pair "Yeah, we got that"

Private Hengraves sighs "You lot are strange. But you should probably know we are at the warehouse."

The vehicle comes to a stop outside the doors of the building. Ianto's smile faulters as he moves back from Jack.

"Guess, it's time to re-kill some people" he says exiting in the people carrier in one fluid motion. Jack and Gwen meet each other's eyes before following their friend out. In moments the UNIT soldiers have stopped the vans behind them and were already unloading the bodies.

The red Skoda Fabia sat behind all four of its occupants firmly still inside. Ianto walked towards it as if to approach but stopped when he reached the first freezer unloaded from its van. Inside was the body of Jeffery Linken, before long all five bodies were lined up outside the warehouse. Joining Jeffery's body there was Private Mark Evans, Henry Walsh, Claire Kelly Smith, and Terry Wood.

Ianto stared at them then nodded at the UNIT soldiers who got into their vehicles ready to leave, Private Robert Hengraves paused by Ianto's shoulder "Good luck soldier" he said taking Ianto's hand and shaking it.

"I'm not a soldier" Ianto replies smiling. The UNIT man smiles back.

"Sure, if that's what you believe" he says getting into the van.
