A pair of tan hands aggressively patted their nuzzle, reminding their owner to stay awake.

"Honestly, it should be a crime to be up this early..."

They reached for a hairband, pulling their quills into a low ponytail, and wrapping a ribbon that was the same colour as their uniform, around the band.

Tying it into a small bow, they let go of their ponytail, and they looked into a mirror.

Dirt brown quills, extremely pale blue eyes, and a pale peach nuzzle stared back at them.

Reaching down, and picking up some quill barrettes, they started to tame the scraggly quills that were growing around their face, crossing two green barrettes, in an X formation, to pin the one on the right side of their face, into place.

Tucking a few more, and a few quill clips, in their jacket's inner pocket, for when the wispy ones made their escape attempts, they looked into the mirror again.

There, they saw a female hedgehog, with her long quills tied back, into a low ponytail that was decorated with a ribbon that was the same colour as the uniform that she was wearing. Her shorter quills were pinned back, by barrettes, and her uniform was spotless.

Smiling at herself, she pulled on a pair of crisp white gloves, making sure that the cuffs were completely hidden by the sleeves of the dress blazer that she was wearing.

"Alright, I just need to get my shoes on, grab my bags, and I should be good to go, for my first day working on the Mirage Express!"

She did a quick fist bump, smiling, but just before she was about to turn around, and put her shoes on, she remembered something important, that she had to do, before she could leave.

Turning back to the mirror, she carefully undid the buttons of her dress blazer, and the top buttons of the blouse that she was wearing, She took a deep breath, and the fur, and skin, over her heart started to peel away, revealing a gem where her heart should have been.

Taking a closer look at it, she smiled when she saw the heart shaped scar on the Ruby, and the small streams of red and blue energy that were like snitches. They were clearly keeping the heart shaped piece attached to the larger gem. "Just a little bit more to go, and I should be whole again, soon."

Gesturing with a hand, causing the hole in her chest to close, she redid the top buttons of her blouse, and her dress blazer, smoothing down the wrinkles in her skirt. She picked up a red ascot that had been draped over the back of a chair, and she carefully put it on, she really shouldn't forget this, and while she could make a projection of her wearing the ascot, it was much more energy efficient to wear a real one.

Taking a deep breath, she sat down to put her shoes on, and she grabbed a watch to place on her left wrist.

She didn't know why she always put her watch on her left wrist, she was right handed, but it felt more natural for her to have it on her left wrist.

Taking another deep breath, she stood up, grabbed the handle of her wheeled suitcase, and she headed for the front door, grabbing her overcoat on the way.

"I'm heading out Nonna! I'll be back in a few days!"

"Good luck with your new job dear!"

She smiled, thankful that this kind old lady had opened her home to her, before, and after, the hole in her memories.

"Okay! Love you!"

As she exited the house, she couldn't help the smile that appeared on her nuzzle, from the fact that she could actually tell somebody that she loved them, and that they loved her back.

"Look out world, here I come!"

So, welcome to my 'The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog' fanfic. My first actual Sonic fanfic in years! The last time that I wrote something for Sonic the Hedgehog was about four years ago, and it was a Sonic Forces story, and the story before that one was another Sonic Forces story.

I'm not gonna lie, I kinda love that game, despite it's many flaws. It's something that just grows on you.

One of the headcanons that I came up, during the times where I was more of a Sonic fan, was that, the Avatar was the real Phantom Ruby. I even started a story in a notebook, centered around that idea, but it never really reached the type it onto a digital document stage.

I then came up with the idea that the character that you play as in 'The Murder of Sonic of Hedgehog' was the Avatar, but with amnesia, and recovering from the war, living as a normal hedgehog, until they got hired to work on the Mirage Express, meeting Sonic, and the others, again.

But I actually have to thank Sonic Frontiers for this. I have been listening to it's music lately, and reading stories about it on AO3. I actually want to buy it, because it's music is so good!

And most of all, I want to thank Poster16 and GuardianDragon98, I have been reading their stories recently, mainly their Sonadow, and Faith, stories, and the hooks of writing Sonic fanfic again, just took me. If I could, I would love to write Sonadow, and Faith, into this story, and I hope that I can get it right.

So, here we go, I'm about to return to where I started writing fanfiction.

Wish me luck
