Hazel and Hildisvíni exited the portal and were blasted with a force of breezing and freezing cold air from the breath of Helheim.
Thankfully though, they had been enchanted with a spell with Vanir magic to prevent them from both freezing.
Hazel looked around at the very place Norse mythology called the Underworld. It was filled with cold air, a dreading and haunting presence and atmosphere, and filled with ruins and platforms.
No other life existed here but the dead themselves, who Hildisvíni explained help in the fight in Ragnarök and who prayed they would help here.
"I hate this place already," Hazel said. "It's more horrid and death-filled than the Underworld back home."
"I don't like it either," said Hildisvíni. "But we need to stop these portals."
Hazel nodded, and then she began listening. In the distance, she could hear the sounds of fighting it appeared, and swords clashing.
"I think the portal is in the distance!" she said.
"It sounds like it's coming from the Bridge of the Damned," said Hildisvíni. "A rather good place for a massive portal to appear if it was to summon a huge army."
"Then let's go," said HazeL.
Hildisvíni nodded and the two began to run through the ice caves and ruins, hoping not to cross any Hel-Walkers or other monster of Helheim here.
As they crossed onto another bridge like-platform, earsplitting screeches came from above them.
And then suddenly from platforms and even tamed winged Hel-creatures, came several undead creatures.
However, to Hildisvíni's shock, they were not Hel-Walkers or Revenants or anything.
They all looked like frozen or chilled zombies with decaying and rotting flesh grey or white or even blue flesh, white hair, blue eyes, and terrifying glares appeared, all carrying weapons that looked to be made out of ice.
"What the?" Hildisvíni asked. "Those aren't Hel-Walkers!"
"No! They're White Walkers!" Hazel exclaimed.
"What?" asked Hildisvíni.
"They're meant to be fictional monsters from this tv show called Game of Thrones!" said Hazel. "How can they possibly be here and exist!?"
"Doesn't matter!" said Hildisvíni. "They are in our way, and we must destroy them!"
Hildisvíni charged up his bow, but before Hazel could stop him, he fired an arrow right at one of the White Walkers.
However, it just took the arrow, staggered slightly, stared at it, and then slowly began continuing to walk towards the two.
"What!?" gasped Hildisvíni. "Even Hel-Walkers fall to mortal weapons!"
"White Walkers can only be destroyed with dragonglass, or fire!" Hazel exclaimed. "And since dragonglass doesn't exist, we can only use fire!"
"Fires from the Nine Realms cannot remain lit here!" Hildisvíni said.
"Well then how about foreign fire?" Hazel asked.
She drew her calvary sword, and using something Leo made for her that he gave to everyone as a gift, she poured incendiary oil onto her sword, and lit her sword on fire with Greek Fire, which burned bright and hot.
Hildisvíni stared in amazement and she transferred some of the fire to his arrows, and they prepared to fight just as the White Walkers began charging.
Hazel yelled out and ran ahead and clashed with a walker and then slashed it, setting it on fire and reducing it to snowflakes. She then clashed with another and kicked it back before stabbing another and killing it as well.
Hildisvíni fired arrow after arrow at every White Walker who charged at him and came out of nowhere.
"These must be the monsters coming from the portal!" he yelled. "But why is this the first time I've seen these? Lately we've been only seeing monsters from alternate worlds that looked like alternate Greek or Roman or even alternate Norse monsters?"
"Maybe the one making these portals had discovered newer worlds to get monsters from!" yelled Hazel. "All I know is, there are too many of these monsters for just us to handle!"
It was true. More and more White Walkers began crawling up the ruins and hopping down, having come out of nowhere. They were being overwhelmed!
Hazel killed two more White Walkers before one stabbed her slightly in the arm and made her fall to the ground.
But right before it could kill her, something jumped on the White Walker and threw it off the cliff with it.
Hazel looked up and to her shock saw undead warrior creatures appearing and attacking the White Walkers, helping them.
"The Hel-Walkers!" Hildisvíni exclaimed. "They must be here on orders from the ruler herself to stop them!"
"Helheim has a ruler?" Hazel asked standing up.
Hildisvíni nodded. Seeing that the White Walkers were busy being handled by the Hel-Walkers, they continued their cold and death-filled journey towards the Bridge of the Damned.
Along the way, White Walker armies kept ambushing them, apparently having found ways to travel around Helheim. Sometimes they had to handle it on their own, but other times Hel-Walkers appeared and helped them.
It felt like a long journey, but after traveling for so long, they finally reached the Bridge of the Damned.
And just as predicted, a massive and huge portal was there, spewing armies of White Walkers.
These ones however weren't attacking Hazel or Hildisvíni as they ran by them. Apparently they were all heading towards wherever their destination was.
And also, in front of them, a massive army of Hel-Walkers was seen trying to hold back and push back the army, but some were breaking through and running.
"Wow, never seen the army of the dead act so relentless," said Hildisvíni.
"At least they're helping," said Hazel. "We need to close that portal!"
"How?" asked Hildisvíni. "It'll take a great amount of strength to dent that portal to make it close on itself, especially with White Walkers charging out.
"Maybe I can use my powers to my advantage," said Hazel. "Hell, maybe I can control all the Hel-Walkers in this realm! I am a daughter of Pluto, ruler of the dead."
"That's almost crazy," Hildisvíni said. "But okay. What can I do?"
"Fight as many White Walkers as you can and keep them from charging or attacking me. Help those ones with the army they are holding back," said Hazel. "I cannot focus if I'm being attacked, and the minute they realize what I am doing, I believe they'll attack me. They might be dead, but they can actually think."
Hildisvíni nodded and drew his fire laced bow and they approached the army of Hel-Walkers, who paid no attention to him and he began firing upon White Walkers.
Hazel sat down on the ground in a meditation pose, and began to focus on channeling her powers of necromancy and control over the dead.
Immediately, she began to feel cold and painful energy flow throughout her. She was tapping into the dead lifeforce of the dead from another realm, so it was very different from back home.
Nevertheless, she continued to struggle and control.
Waves of energy began to flow from her and channel across the realm. Hildisvíni could hear the sounds of Hel-Walkers in the distance make screeches as if they were being summoned.
The White Walkers however realized this, and a bunch of them stepped back from the huddle and drew spears.
They all flung them at Hazel, but Hildisvíni saw and fired on each of them knocking them away.
More White Walkers broke through the army and either headed towards the distance or charged at Hazel.
One came close to taking off her head before Hildisvíni shot it in its head instead.
Hazel whole body was getting numb and felt like it was on fire at the same time while freezing. Controlling the dead from another realm was extremely hard, but she wouldn't give up.
She began grunting and grinding her teeth, expelling more demi-god fueled energy from her, until she began yelling out loudly.
And all of a sudden, the most massive army of Hel-Walkers, Revenants, and other monster inhabitants of Helheim began appearing or crawling up the ruins and attacking the White Walkers, either throwing them back in the portal or off the cliffs.
And then the rest of them began piling on each other around the portal and attacking it while White Walkers attacked them at the same time, but they kept multiplying.
With Hazel busy controlling these, Hildisvíni fired barrages of arrows at the portal, which began to spark and sputters and flash and glow.
With all the combined strength of Hel and the heroes, the portal got smaller and smaller and smaller, until finally, it was struck once more, and it exploded, sending all the Hel-Walkers flying everywhere and knocking Hazel out.
The White Walkers that remained were built stronger, so they took the force, and while everyone was knocked out, the remaining ones ran off to join their other brethren.
When Hazel and Hildisvíni recovered, they found the bridge empty and the portal gone.
Hazel was too weak and exhausted to move and even speak, so Hildisvíni came over and picked her up.
But then suddenly, Hel-Walkers of their own free will began to appear, and Hildisvíni stood ready to fight while carrying Hazel if he needed to.
But instead, they all just stared and began opening up for him so he could move along. Apparently the great raven of Hel was allowing them safe passage.
"That was amazing little girl," Hildisvíni said.
"Did...we...win?" Hazel groaned.
"Yes and no," Hildisvíni said. "A great number of White Walkers escaped, but the rest are back where they belong."
"Don't ever...let me...do that...again," Hazel gasped. "Let Frank know...too."
"I will," Hildisvíni laughed. "Now just rest. We'll be back at Sindri's soon."
Hildisvíni headed for the portal, happy that they stopped the portal from unleashing a massive amount of hell on the 8 realms.
Two portals had been closed, but still a lot remained.
Oh yeah! Battle in Helheim, and we had White Walkers this time!
