Although professor Morrison had never been to the catacombs, he had learned plenty about them and as far as he could see, all the stories and articles were quite accurate in their assertion. The place was truly the epitome of gloomy and depressing. It was a graveyard after all.
The professor tried very hard not to focus on that particular aspect of the location. Instead he simply followed Gil around while looking over the inscriptions of the documents he was given. And as they turned a corner Zander's eye suddenly spotted something and he halted.
"Wait!" he blurted out.
Gil stopped in his tracks and turned around with what seemed to resemble a scowl "what is it?" he asked in a rather annoyed tone.
"Come over you need to see this" Morrison requested. Gil sighed and walked over towards the clearly intrigued man.
"What exactly do I need to see. This entire place is just rocks and bones professor I have better things to go do then…."
Gil's voice faltered as he finally saw what the professor was pointing at. It was a symbol on the wall, one that had completely gone over his head and his eyes. The symbol looked a bit like an animal's eye, maybe a goat or sheep one.
"Good observation professor. But what does it mean?"
"Well from the looks of this symbol it seems to be a wolf's eye" Morrison concluded.
"A wolf? What gives you that idea?" Gil asked incredulously.
"Well wolves often symbolize guidance and trusting your instincts. Legends speak of wolves being able to see everything, even beyond the thick trees or even the spiritual world. So a wolf's eye symbol would hint that one…"
"Must follow their instincts" Gil finished.
Morrison snapped his fingers in an eureka moment "exactly. However how that can help us is anyone's guess?"
"Leave that to me" Gil said and he raised his left arm up. Morrison had to rub his eyes to make sure he wasn't daydreaming as it seemed like Gil's arm was glowing. A small light enveloped Gil and it seemed his eyes almost changed color.
"This way" Gil commanded before he turned and began walking through the tight corridors. Morrison had so many questions but instead of asking them he simply followed the glowing man through the corridors. It was a winding path to be sure but for some reason Gil seemed to know exactly where he needed to go and for the next few minutes the two of them walked through the corridors until Gil came to a sudden stop at a crossroads.
"There!" he shouted pointing at the wall in front of him.
"Uhm….Mr. Gil with all due respect but there is nothing there" Morrison inquired.
In response Gil flashed him an arrogant smirk "perhaps to your human eyes Professor. But to someone like me," as he said this he extended his right hand "just another obstacle in the way."
Morrison couldn't believe what he saw unfolding right in front of him. And it was literally so as Gil's prosthetic hand seemed to unfold and turn int something. It was long and sharp and brimming with some sort of energy that the professor had never seen before.
What followed was nothing short of a sight to behold. With his prosthetic arm now bladed, Gil began relentlessly smash it again and again into the wall in front of him. Morrison just watched in awe as energy somehow seemed to be channeled into the blade hand as he slammed it against it the wall and it started to slowly crumble apart.
"Mr. Gil the cave it will become unstable and…"
"Keep quiet! I know what I'm doing!" Gil shouted back at him.
Morrison kept quiet, knowing now full well by now that any protest was entirely futile. And soon enough the wall seemed to crumble in on itself and Morrison instinctively closed his eyes as if he was waiting for the ceiling to fall on him.
But nothing fell down. In fact as he slowly opened his eyes he made notice of Gil reaching into the destroyed wall with his intact hand. And Morrison watched as Gil pulled out something from the wall. Something that looked very familiar.
"My god…" Morrison mumbled as he stepped forward. His eyes cast on the artifact in Gil's hand, the same one as the drawing he saw earlier.
"The Lunar Obelisk…" Gil said with a triumphant smirk as he looked over the artifact he had long since looked for.
"That's….that's incredible…you managed to locate in this maze of all places. How did you do that?" Morrison asked bewildered.
Turning his smirk to the professor, Gil responded with "oh believe me professor Morrison you will soon learn all about it. But first we must inform the boss about this, she will be most pleased."
Gil stepped past Morrison and pulled out his phone from his pocket. Turning and giving Morrison another cocky grin.
"Rejoice professor. For your wish is about to come true."
