Breath With In
Chapter 11 - Well Look Who I Found Here
Author's Note: So, like, sorry for all the sad stuff recently. 😔 My parents totally hate me, and school is just like a never-ending nightmare. I can barely keep up with everything, and honestly, I'm probably gonna be buried in debt by the time college is over. Ugh, I don't even know if I'll ever be able to live a happy life—sounds dramatic, I know, but it's probably true. BUT, hey, that's not your problem, right? I just wanted to let you know that episodes might come out a little slower (SORRY!). But please leave a nice review, okay? 💖 If you have any comments or suggestions, let me know. Thanks for being here for me! 😭💕
So I continued down the winding trail of white. It was a bit chilly, but with my warm jacket. I spotted a familiar face peeking out from the snow. It was a bunny. And about 20 feet from it was Yuuki! Also laying in the snow. I got up the courage to go up and talk to her.
"Hi," I said.
She looked at me with a questioning face, a bit shocked, as if she hadn't noticed me coming up the entire time.
"Oh, you're that guy from a few days ago," she said in a voice that was completely flat, like she had just discovered that gravity existed.
I heard a shot from about 280 feet away, and then a yell: "IT'S RABBIT SEASON!"
I blinked, confused, and looked around to see if anyone was hunting the bunny, but it was still just lying there, probably pondering its existence in the vast, snowy wasteland.
"Soooo, what are you doing here?" I said, trying to move the conversation forward like a normal person, but feeling that awkward tension building like an unstable tower of Jenga blocks.
"Umm... just chilling," she responded. "What about you?"
I stared at her for a moment. "I was actually just doing nothing much." I said, and then added, "Isn't this just the best chat ever?"
I slowly walked away and then spontaneously sprant. (That's right, sprant. I didn't walk. I sprant.) As I slowed down, I decided I can only do it alone. I paused to think about that for a second because it sounded kinda deep, like I was having some kind of epiphany.
I decided to go to the shop. And not the one that was robbed, because that had a lot of FLEX TAPE™ around it to prevent people from going out. It was probably cursed or something. So I made my way through the town, avoiding suspicious squirrels that kept staring at me as if they knew too much.
I entered the shop. It was exactly like every other shop I had ever been in, but with more smells. The guy behind the counter was wearing a trench coat and sunglasses, even though it was indoors.
"Oh, hello," the old man said in a voice that sounded like he'd been chewing gravel for the last 80 years. "You have the passion of a climber in your eyes."
I blinked. "Oh? How do you know?"
"Just a feeling," said the old man mysteriously, tapping the side of his nose like he knew something I didn't. "I can get you set up right." He then pulled out a climbing harness and a banana. "You'll need this, too."
I stared at the banana, perplexed. "What…? Why?"
He smiled. "You'll see."
I bought the climbing gear and left, still wondering what was going on with the banana. As I walked home, I felt another chilly breeze. It was as if the wind itself was judging me for not understanding the importance of the banana.
When I got home, I went in my bed and just lay there for a while listening to music. It was quite comforting being in my cozy bed. Then I realized I had been listening to the same song for hours on repeat, but I didn't care. Slowly, I drifted off, probably because I was really tired from thinking about the banana. And then onto the next day it is.
