Incomplete 4

Isabella Swan had always known she was an incomplete puzzle. When the last pieces finally fell into place, it was much more than she hoped for.

Bella/Zafrina

The words had barely left Zafrina's mouth when Kachiri and Senna appeared, the curtains billowing behind them. "Your father is Charles Swan?" Kachiri asked.

"Yes," Bella answered, her voice barely above a whisper. "Has something happened to him?" She asked, digging out her phone from her pocket.

"No, but they plan to use him to get you away from the villa," Senna added. "Truthfully, some of their words did not make sense to us, but they will to you." She added confidently.

"Okay," Bella whispered, her voice shaking. Zafrina put her hand on Bella's back, the simple move comforting her human.

"The local police will soon be here to inform you of his accident… it's not true." She added quickly. "We have a signal jammer, so she can't call to verify the truth. You will then bring her here, where she will tell us what she knows. No fucking growling monsters are coming to save her then." Kachiri recited, very much to Bella's amusement.

She smiled as she took her phone out and could not help her laugh when Senna's eyes seemed to sparkle at the sight of them. "I will show you how to use it later." Bella offered, still laughing. "A signal jammer stops phones from working, meaning I would not be able to call my dad had this been an ordinary phone." Bella rapidly texted Jake as she explained it to the vampires. Bella's phone doubled as a sat phone, so as good as their plan was, it would not have worked.

"We have to go," Zafrina growled.

"Not yet," Bella muttered. Zafrina did not look happy with that suggestion. "Trust me, please." Bella pleaded.

"You, I trust. It's them I have a problem with." She groused.

"This is her world; let her handle it,"Kachiri advised.

"Yeah, what she said," Bella muttered enthusiastically. She didn't understand a word but got the gist of it. The vampires chuckled, and Zafrina nodded.

"You need to hide when they get here," Bella said as her phone rang.

"Seriously, Bells, not much time there," Jake grumbled.

"I didn't have a choice. Look, just do as we discussed, and I know you hate it, but please remember to send the package after." Bella rushed out.

"I promised I would, and I keep my promises… even if I hate it. Why you have to tell them anything, I don't know." He grumbled.

She ignored his little rant; it was best to do so, as she didn't have time to explain things to him for the millionth time. "I'm going to Skype him now. Thanks, Jake." She had hoped she had more time for Jake to reveal himself to Charlie. Bella had only put the proposal to him while she waited for her flight back to Manaus. Surprisingly, he'd agreed with little convincing from her. Little convincing meant he got her truck. Apparently, anything less and the pack would riot. It was bullshit as far as Bella was concerned, but the truck was only going to sit in front of Charlie's until the damn thing rusted, she was sure. She nearly dropped her laptop in a hurry to set it up.

"Hey, Bells." Charlie's euphoric greeting had her smiling from ear to ear.

"Hi, dad. How are you?" She asked.

"I'm…" The doorbell rang then. "Sorry, Bells, let me see who it is." She took the opportunity to take a deep, calming breath.

"They are here." Zafrina informed her.

"Okay, time to hide." They stepped behind the curtain, and Zafrina also used her gift. A gift she hadn't had the chance to tell her mate about. When they get back to the safety of their home, she would have time to do that.

"Bells, guess who is here." Jake's head popped into the screen.

"Good heavens, I had no idea your head was that big." Bella teased. Charlie bit his tongue to keep from laughing.

"Ha ha," Jake muttered sarcastically.

"So, are you still in Brazil?" Charlie asked.

"Yeah, I might stay here for a while…" Her doorbell rang then. "Give me a sec, guys." She made her way to the door smiling widely

"Miss Swan?" She was surprised to find just two police officers, then again showing up with force defeated their purpose.

"Yes, emm… how can I help?" She asked after it was clear they would not bother to introduce themselves. Then again, she could have asked who they were, but why bother.

"Miss Swan, it seems your father was coming here to surprise you and got into an accident."

"WHAT!" Charlie, having heard them, exclaimed. "Bella." He called out. She walked over to the desk, grabbing her laptop.

"Officers, this is my dad. I believe you have the wrong information." The two looked at each other, and despite their attempt to hide their panic, she could see it. She could have pretended she spoke to her father seconds before they arrived, but having him on screen was so much better and, frankly, damn right entertaining.

"It would seem our information got mixed up. Sorry to have disturbed you, Miss Swan."

"No problem." She muttered, shutting the door.

"Isabella Swan, what the hell is going on? Those two looked like you stole their wives from under their noses." This time it was Jake biting his lip to keep from laughing. Bella knew the look of panic on their faces would alert Charlie.

"Dad, I've got to get out here; call me back when you are ready."

"Isabella Marie Swan."

"Please, call me back when you are ready." With that, she shut the computer, quickly putting everything back in place. Bella knew it was going to be a lengthy conversation with Jake. She'd also left the relevant pages of her diary for him to read. Hopefully, he would understand what was going on before calling her back.

Zafrina walked back into the room without her sisters. "They are going back to keep an eye on the humans." Bella nodded.

"I'm going to checkout. The staff has to see me leave." She didn't need Fredricks and his cohorts using the fact that she wasn't seen after she checked out to create problems. Now, she had to figure out how to make it look like she left Brazil when she hadn't.

"Good evening, I'm checking out." She managed to inject a little cheer into her voice instead of the frustration she felt. Fredricks and Anderson, mostly Fredricks, she suspected, was turning what was supposed to be the best time of her life into a fucking operation she was not equipped to handle.

After what seemed like forever, she was finally checked out and on her way back to the villa.

She had wanted to leave in full view of the cameras, but Zafrina had seemingly disappeared and come back seconds later. Bella didn't have to ask; Zafrina had again turned the cameras. "Can you still carry me with all my stuff?" She looked down at the three bags on the bed.

"Yes." True to her word, it wasn't a problem. Bella could not stop chuckling as the forest blurred around her. Zafrina carrying a backpack was a sight to behold.

This time she was prepared for the leap through the leaves and out into stunning daylight. "It will take a while before I get used to this view," Bella whispered.

She dropped her bags in the corner of the room and got a light out. She didn't have the sight vampires did and would need one after the sun went down. "Can you put this on the roof for me?" She handed the small solar pack to Zafrina. "Just open it and lay flat on the roof.

"What does this do?" The vampire asked, inspecting the small solar panels.

"This is why the communication devices Senna stole don't work. It uses a battery, and unless you charge it, it dies." Bella explained.

"It might not be in your best interest to tell her that; she will hound you until she understands how to use it," Zafrina warned.

"I will take my chances." Bella laughed.

"Isabella, do not force me to take her arms off when she does not leave you alone." The roughness of her voice laced with what was definitely a whine had Bella laughing.

"I will be fine." she insisted.

"Carlisle has a coven member who could read minds," Zafrina said as they watched the sun go down.

"Yes, but his gift did work on me; he could not read my mind. Neither did Aro's or Jane's, for that matter." Bella said.

"I have a gift," Zafrina said, staring at Bella. "It seems mine does not work on you either." She added, awed.

"What is your gift?" Bella asked, intrigued.

"Right now, you should be seeing us surrounded by the ocean. I can make anyone see whatever I want them to see." She answered nonchalantly. "Except for you, it seems." She sounded more impressed by Bella's ability than her own. Then again, Bella was more impressed with Zafrina's gift, even if it did not work on her.

"That's why humans have not disturbed your home," Bella surmised.

"Yes, it helps that they suddenly find they can't see anything. It is easier to blind them than it is to show them anything. It might end up bringing more humans here. Although we have moved since, and no human, except for you, has come this far." Bella nodded in agreement. Zafrina spoke from experience; she had shown the first humans they encountered a mythical creature from the stories of her childhood. It only brought more humans, desperate to see this creature. Even with her gift, Kachiri felt it best to move further into the rainforest.

Bella was surprised by how many stars dotted the sky; it brought so much light she found her camping light useless. Even as she lay in bed, the stars still bled through the large opening that worked as a doorway. Zafrina had gone hunting, and Bella was on her own in the rainforest; yet, she'd never been more comfortable. The coven did not only feed on drug smugglers; they weren't always available; sometimes, it was a poor unfortunate soul. Zafrina was soaking wet when she stepped into the room. To Bella's surprise, she stripped out of her clothes and wiped herself down with thick fur skin. Bella stayed in bed admiring the view as her vampire furiously dried her hair. Her arousal had been building since she met her mate, and right now, it had hit its peak.

Zafrina slipped in beside her without a word, something Bella was grateful for. She leaned in, kissing Bella, slowly pulling her human firmly against her.

"He's reading the pages. Bells, you've got to give him time, it's a lot to read, and we both know your love of reading didn't come from him." Jacob quipped.

"Yeah, I know, but it's been two weeks, Jake," Bella whined.

"You've gone about this the best way you can." Of course, he'd say that; he got a truck out of it.

"How did it go with the pack when they found out?" She chuckled.

"Erm, they don't know yet." He mumbled. "I haven't told them, and I haven't phased since." He admitted.

"You know Charlie will confront your dad when he's done talking to me?" Bella said.

"Well, shit. I completely discounted him out of the equation." Jacob groaned.

"Well, good luck." Bella laughed.

"How is your vampire?" He asked. He'd struggled to understand when Bella returned from her road trip, only to say she was headed to Brazil and why. Then called later to ask him to show his wolf to Charlie, as she wanted to keep him in her life. How could he say no to that, knowing the alternative was letting Charlie believe she was dead.

"She's great." Zafrina smiled then, all gleaming white teeth, which had Bella rolling her eyes.

"He will call you," Zafrina whispered into her hair. "He's your father, and I believe he will be happy with everything you've done to keep him your life." She added.

"I hope so," Bella murmured.

"Listen to your vampire." Jake chuckled. She'd forgotten he was still on the phone.

When Charlie called her a day later, Senna had her phone. Zafrina looked ready to rip Senna apart when she snatched the phone from her while Kachiri shook with laughter. "Hey, Dad." Bella cheered, relieved to hear his voice.

"So… your soulmate is a vampire, and you will become one," Charlie grumbled.

"I lost my truck to Jake, so you would at least pretend the V word didn't exist, and it's the sixth word out of your mouth." Bella groaned.

"My bad, cold ones." Charlie snarked. "I take it your stay in Brazil is because you've found your soulmate?" He asked although he knew the answer. She was sure Jake an already told him.

"Yes, I've found her. She lives in a tree house above the treeline somewhere in the rainforest." Bella cheered.

"I see you finally got your wish to live in a treehouse." Charlie laughed.

"And would have gotten it much sooner if someone didn't keep making excuses about building one for me," Bella grumbled, even though it's been over a decade.

"I knew if I did, I would never get you out of there, and worse, Bells… you tripped over air. Couldn't have you climbing trees."

"Still making excuses, I see," Bella complained.

"You've got your treehouse." Charlie retorted, amused. Bella sounded very much like her eight old self when she came for a visit and found no treehouse.

Zafrina was sitting on the roof's edge, feet dangling over the edge as she smiled. As much as she tried not to listen in on Bella's conversation, she heard it all the same. To learn her mate had always wanted to live in the very structure they are living in now made her tremendously happy.

Bella threw her arms around her after she was done with her phone call. "I see you've stopped worrying now." Zafrina teased.

"Hmm, mm," Bella murmured, burying her face in her vampire's neck.

"Didn't you say you were going to call Marcus?" Zafrina reminded her.

"It's a damn good thing I wasn't counting on you to remind me. I called him when you went hunting." Bella said with an eye roll.

"What did he say?" She asked.

"He was happy for me. Athenodora screamed in my ears, and Aro was not allowed anywhere near the phone." Bella laughed.

"Bella, can I have the phone back?" Senna asked.

"Have it back? It's not yours." Zafrina bellowed.

"Yeah, sure." Bella tossed the phone, only for Zafrina to snatch it out of the air. She grabbed Bella and leaped off the treehouse.

"She is being very selfish,"Senna complained.

"You know, you could just steal a phone,"Kachiri advised.

"Yes, but it might not have the things Bellas' has."She whined, walking away.

"Zafrina is going to kill her."She groaned.

Mail was sent to the nearest self-service mailbox center; Carlisle often sent his to whichever hospital he was plying his trade in. So when Alice informed them a courier from a private service was driving down the driveway, anticipated built. Emmett couldn't help but think boredom would do that to you. Getting excited over mail because it was coming to the house was downright pathetic. "Or, it's because no one has our address to be sending mail." Edward retorted.

"The school does." Rosalie piped up, shutting him up.

"Yep, abject boredom," Emmett whispered.

All ears tuned to the van as it came to a stop, Shania Twain's Come On Over coming to an abrupt end as the engine was turned off. Heartbeat slightly elevated as the courier stepped out of the van and approached the door. "Nice house." She murmured as she tapped the door knocker against the backplate with a little too much force.

When he opened the door, it took everything in Carlisle not to bulk at the stench. It wasn't coming from the courier but from the package in her hand.

"Dr. Fang, aka Carlisle Cullen?" The courier asked. Carlisle didn't need Edward to know that the courier desperately hoped for an explanation regarding the nickname.

"That would be me." He answered, amused.

"Please sign here." Carlisle signed the pad and handed it back to the courier, shutting the door before she could ask.

"Oh, that was mean." Emmett teased.

"And how exactly would you have answered that question," Carlisle asked.

"What did he do? Roll around on it before he sent it." Rosalie snarked.

"Knowing Jacob, he did." Jasper chuckled.

Carlisle placed the large manila envelope on the side console and joined Esme on the loveseat while she sketched out another interior.

"Well… are you not going to open it?" Edward damn near shouted.

"It's addressed to me, and I will open it when I feel like it, is that okay with you." Carlisle returned shortly.

It was no secret Carlisle had little patience where Edward was concerned these days. The clear favorite was now most definitely not, and it all stemmed from Esme's obvious unhappiness. The source of that unhappiness is Isabella Marie Swan. Leaving Bella had been a monumental mistake, and with every passing day, they felt it. Jasper often took off with Emmett as he was the only one whose emotions didn't batter him constantly.

Bella cutting Alice off so completely had dampened his mate's vivacity considerably. She put on quite the performance for the rest of the family, bar Edward, but Jasper knew the truth. She seemed to deflate the minute their bedroom door shut behind them, and if they could shed tears, Alice would for the best friend she'd lost. Jasper couldn't help but harbor a great deal of guilt for what had transpired. He had voted to leave because he had been so ashamed of what happened. To have nearly killed that wonderful human over a paper cut haunted him. Yes, he understood the bloodlust wasn't only his, but he still lunged for her instead of running. Alice didn't blame him, never had in any way, shape, or form.

No, she blamed Edward, Edward had them believing he was Bella's mate, and Alice bought it, as she'd seen Bella as a vampire. Her gift had let her down; Edward decided that was the case, and Alice saw the result of that decision. When he insisted they leave, he did so as a right he had as her mate, but to learn he wasn't and lied so blatantly had angered everybody. Had they known the truth, none would have left because one of every couple had fought Edward about leaving. Esme and Emmett even went as far as to vote to stay. Alice hadn't because of him, which tore at him. He knew had he voted to stay, they would have stayed. Jasper also knew some of that anger was because despite Edward insisting they leave. Five of the seven had agreed with Edward, although reluctantly, they still had.

"Who knew one human would have such an impact," Jasper murmured.

"Yeah, Bells is…" The right word failed him. "God, Jazz, whenever he opens his mouth, I want to rip his head off and mount it in the garden. Ending him is too good for that fucking asswipe.

"He knows, with his gift, he knows the entire family blames him. He lied, and the cost was just too astronomical." Jasper groused.

"He deserves…" Rosalie damn near ran through him, barely managing to come to a stop. She had his phone held up in the air.

"Bella." She actually sounded out of breath, which for a vampire, was not possible. From her emotions, Jasper understood. Her ever-happy and positive mate was now filled with rage, anger, and, above all else, sorrow.

Rosalie would be the first to admit she had never understood Emmett's attachment to Bella until they left. It was nearly two months after they left before he finally spoke to her."She reminded me of my little sister."At that moment, Rosalie realized her mistake. She wished she had voted to stay; even though it wouldn't have made a difference, she should have sided with her mate.

She had voted as she did because she wanted Bella to have a human life; it had been what she wanted. What Bella wanted had not mattered to Rosalie in the least. She knew if Bella didn't allow him back in her life in some meaningful way, it would be a very long time before she got the husband she knew back, if ever. She hated Edward fucking Cullen with a vengeance because as long he was around, Bella would never be. So yes, he should go back to Rio and wallow in misery.

Emmett took the phone with a tenderness that belied his size. "Bells?" His voice cracked. Jasper would admit he only noticed the rest when their emotions hit him. They'd all followed Rosalie out, even Edward. From the looks Esme and Alice were giving him, they hadn't wanted him there.

"Carlisle agreed he could come as long as he didn't say a word," Alice whispered.

"Hey, Bear." The use of the nickname had Emmett wobbling on his feet. "How are you?" She asked; Jasper could hear the nervousness in her voice.

"I miss you so much." He choked out. This time it was Jasper who wobbled on his feet.

"I miss you too," Bella admitted. The knot in Rosalie's chest eased somewhat. "Who is there with you?"

"Everyone," Emmett admitted reluctantly. The glare Esme threw Carlisle would have dropped a lesser man. He'd allowed Edward to come. The one thing that was keeping Bella away.

"Can you put me on speakerphone? I know you can all hear me, but I'd like to hear you too." Bella requested.

"Okay, you are on speakerphone."

"Alice, I suspect the package Em sent me was because you saw me, so thank you," Bella said earnestly.

"I knew you were going to travel the country, but then all of a sudden, I get a glimpse of you needing the phone and charging pack." Alice's smile had Jasper beaming from ear to ear.

"You have no idea how handy it is having this phone. Thank you so much."

"It was the least we could do," Alice mumbled.

"How are you guys, Esme, Rose, Jasper? Jasper, I saw you on fifth avenue about six months ago. I wanted to say hello, but you were gone by the time I crossed the road." Jasper's eyes widened at the news.

"I was there to pick up a gift for Alice," Jasper murmured.

"I thought as much." Bella laughed.

"Bella, I want to apologize for…"

"Fuck off with the apology. I understood; believe me, I understand. You have nothing to apologize for." Bella's shutdown of his attempted apology had Emmett and Alice giggling.

"It's lovely to hear from you," Esme interjected.

"You'd have a heart attack if you saw the lack of decor. Actually, it's nonexistent, but honestly, I love it." Bella laughed.

"You better." They all heard it, but no one asked.

"Oh, Carlisle, I asked Jake to send you the package I promised to send." The elation from Carlisle was evident to all.

"He did; it just arrived by special delivery. Thank you." He cheered.

"If I'm being honest, despite him promising to send it, I wasn't sure he would." Bella giggled, and everyone smiled.

"He did; he rolled around on it first," Rosalie growled.

"Are you sure it's all he did?" Bella quipped, laughing. "No yellow stains on the envelope."

"It's not funny, Isabella." Rosalie retorted.

"I don't know; I'm cracking up over here, Mrs. McCarty." Bella chuckled.

"Are you still traveling, and is there anything we can send you?" Rosalie asked, suspecting rightly Bella didn't just call to say hello.

"That is why I called. Em, I need your help," Bella whispered.
