Hi there folks, it's me, CrystalDragon 246
I know what you're probably thinking - this can't possibly be a real update after over 20 years since this story was last updated…But guess what it really is an update and a positive one at that, or at least I hope it's positive for people.
Let me rewind a sec though and bring you up to speed a bit so just bear with me for a few moments.
When I started this account back in 2009 I joined Fanfiction because of a dare - sad I know! But at the time I regularly read fanfictions and my so called friends of the time thought it was stupid, that fanfictions were a waste of time (Mind these were also the so called friends who never picked up a book in their life unless made to read by school so looking back perhaps I shouldn't haven't been surprised by their remarks).
However as a stubborn, headstrong teenager I became quite angry with this remark and told them "I'd like to see them try writing a fanfic" to which their response was that the 7 of them could write better fanfictions anyday and it would be better than anything I had not only read but anything I could come up.
So the dare was set; the 8 of us would sign up on Fanfiction and produce our own fanfics - the winner was supposed to be the person who got the most views on their fanfiction. But we never got a winner in the end as the dare was forgotten about mere months after it was set and to be honest I'm glad, it worked out for the best as I enjoyed writing this fanfiction.
Anyway I would go on to cut ties with these friends (And good riddance to bad rubbish) and would carry on trying to post chapters of this story whenever I could; and up until about 2013 I did succeed - although I'll confess was never sure if anything I was writing was any good (Actually I'm still not sure if what I'm writing is any good but if people enjoy it then that's good enough for me).
By 2013 I always managed to find time to write a little bit each day but that changed as I would soon start higher education, and finding time to write became impossible. Even after I finished higher education I didn't have it in me to write anymore - it was like all my creativity had been sucked out of me.
I would then go on to tragically lose my dad to MND complications and after this my mental health suffered greatly; years just began blending together and honestly I was so lost in my mind I don't remember much about those years.
But eventually I pulled myself back and rebuilt myself bit by bit; I'm now happily engaged to an extremely supportive gentleman (He too suffered with mental health and it's like we fixed the parts of us that long since felt broken) and I now hold down a full time career.
But yet returning to this fanfiction still never crossed my mind…until one day when I found an old pen drive; and there they were, the original files containing the long since forgotten chapters of this fanfiction! I began to re-read them, reminding myself of what I had written years ago and more I read the more it made me want to think of perhaps writing again - I had so many files with notes that I'd made about where I wanted this story to go, it seemed a shame not to try and at least turns this notes into a reality.
So I made up my mind and here we are now…but there is a twist. I couldn't simply carry on where I had left off all those years ago; the writing was foreign to me and didn't feel right, nothing seemed to flow - but I guess I was a much different person when I originally started writing this, so it made sense I couldn't jump back into it.
So I started tweaking the odd sentence, changing the odd paragraph and what you see below is the result of that - The first chapter of the new Digimon Season 7.
I admit, particularly to anyone who had read this fanfiction before now, this first chapter at least is still extremely similar to my original chapter, it's just expanded a lot more.
I'm still deciding where I go with the next chapters of this so please be patient with me - I can't promise regular updates but I am going to try and continue this story and hopefully finish it one day.
If any of my original readers are still out there then I hope you'll enjoy this take on my story (And I'm sorry if it's not the chapter you've been waiting for).
But I've waffled on far too long now and people will not have clicked on this fanfiction to listen to me drone on.
So without further ado enjoy my fanfiction and it's good to be back.
Human World
"Regan. Come on!" 15 year old Ronnie shouted frustratedly as he ran up to the school gates.
At just shy of 4 '8; Ronnie was definitely one of the smaller boys of their year. Naturally bronze skin that many would only achieve after hours of sun worshipping, a mop of shoulder length dark brown hair, currently gelled, styled and slicked back to perfection, even in spite of the hammering it was taking from the morning's sprint and steel grey eyes, that could have had a silver tint, if the sunlight hit at just the right angle. As he continued his sprint the thin black turtleneck jumper and skinny navy blue jeans he currently sported had moulded themselves to his body; while his grey and white cheque open shirt bellowed behind him in an almost cape fashion.
"God we are so late"
"Jesus Ronnie will you slow down, we're not that late" 16 year old Regan shouted back exasperated as he sped walk behind the smaller boy. No way was he going to run; Regan didn't care how late they were, he got sick a long time ago of doing things to please others, now he was going to go through life at his own pace and if others didn't like that well they'd just have to learn to live with it.
While Ronie was considered short for his age, Regan was definitely tall for his age. At over just over 6 '0 Regan towered over Ronnie; this made their friendship an interesting sight to many, but by now they were very much used to the comments of "Big" and "Little" and learnt not to pay any attention.
Regan's pale, almost porcelain complexion and platinum blond spikes, jutting out at many different angles, served to make his bright forest green eyes stand out even more, it was like someone had taken a perfect photo of nature itself and modelled it into a pair of eyes.
Having finally caught up to Ronnie, who in turn had stopped and had been running on the spot to allow his friend to catch up, allowed Regan to readjust his black leather jacket over his red, dragon adorned, elbow sleeve length t-shirt; part of which covered the top of his black ripped jeans.
"We! Are at least 15 minutes late! Because of you" Ronnie explained as the pair made there way through the school gates and into the long since deserted courtyard "And of all days and all the mornings we could pick to be late this is not the one"
"And why not? Do please tell what is so special about today that one mustn't be late" Regan asked sarcastically, waving his arms of added dramatics.
"You really have forgotten, haven't you?" Ronnie asked with bewildered amusement as the boys entered one of the many buildings. Regan simply shrugged, still completely uninterested. For his part Ronnie managed to suppress the urge to facepalm right there and then but could not physically hide the eye roll.
"What lesson do we have first thing every Monday morning?" asked Ronnie as he descended one of many sets of stairs.
"English, obviously, with that annoying old bag Mrs Bailey" Regan muttered following behind Ronnie at a snail's pace, they were already late anyway so what difference did it make.
"Right; the same old bag, as you so kindly put it, who warned us last week if we were late again for her lesson again she would…" Ronnie trailed off as he came to halt just short of a classroom door. Regan pondered for a minute before it finally hit him. Letting out a loud groan while coming to a halt by the door he finally remembered the dreaded warning from their teacher previously
"She would give us detention for the rest of the year" Regan muttered, arms crossing over his chest with a small huff as Ronnie nodded in his direction.
"Guess that will teach me to run next time…Maybe" Regan thought miserably.
"Let's just get this over with" Regan sighed; Ronnie nodded in agreement and raised his hand to knock on the door.
Rapping the door 3 times the boys felt like an entity passed by before the scraping of a chair and undeniable tapping of heels on lino could be heard approaching them from the other side of the door.
With a swoosh sound the door slid back to reveal a stocky, smartly dressed woman in her early 50's with dirty blonde hair, tied back in a tightly packed bun, and cold grey eyes, framed by thin glasses. She was not surprised to see the 2 young men currently standing in the corridor instead of in her classroom where they should have currently been. With a sigh, she folded her arms across her chest.
"Well then boys. Would you like to explain to me why you're late this time or should we just go straight to the part where I give you detention?" Mrs Bailey asked calmly.
"Would you believe we were late because we were helping a very old lady cross a very busy road?" Ronnie joked flashing an lopsided smile; hoping his teacher would show some leniency if he could make her laugh. While the murmured giggles told him it had worked on his fellow classmates, the quip of the eyebrow and thinning of the lips of his teacher dashed any of those hopes in a heartbeat.
"Well yes we are late Mrs; but to our credit we are only just over 15 minutes and that is a personal best for us, normally we're at least half an hour late" Regan joked sarcastically; if he was going to get detention anyway might as well have the reason be something more interesting then "Student was late".
More giggles resounded around the classroom; only silencing because of the sideways glance of Mrs Bailey.
"Detention it is then boys; I'll deal with you 2 after class" Mrs Bailey said as she turned around and walked back to the front of the classroom "However I will give you an A for effort" she added jokingly "Now take your seats"
Regan and Ronnie shared a sigh of almost relief; maybe they had managed to lessen their detention count, only time will tell, for now though they entered the classroom and made their way towards their seats in the far back right hand corner of the room while Mrs Bailey resumed her early lesson, before the interruption.
"Helping a very old lady cross a busy road? You might as well have said you'd been attacked by a swarm of killer bees for all the good it did you" 15 year old Rosie jokingly mumbled from her seat in front of Ronnie.
"For your information I was hoping if I appealed to her more humorous side then she'd, you know, hold back on all those detentions that will certainly be coming our way" Ronnie mumbled back while taking his equipment out of his bag.
"Does Mrs Bailey have a humorous side?" asked Rosie while softly giggling.
"Well no, but anything's worth a shot at this stage and besides she did say it was an A for effort" Ronnie explained earning another giggle from Rosie.
"You do know you wouldn't even be in this situation if oh I don't know you tried a thing called getting up on time" 16 year Cassie commented sarcastically from her seat in front of Regan.
"Hey it's not my fault they insist on starting school before 9.00 in the morning; if they started at 10.00 or even 11.00 in the morning then they'd never be any issue" Regan explained "I'm not about to start changing my lifestyle just because some bigwig says school should start at 9.00"
"So basically until the school adjusts its hours to accommodate your body clock you will continue as normal; normal being you're late everyday?" sarcastically asked Cassie.
"That about sums it up in a nutshell" Regan cherrily responded flashing a smile; which slipped the minute the resounding thud of books filled the classroom.
"May I enquire what is going on back there?" Mrs Bailey calm but sternly asked. 4 sets of eyes darted from one another, each urging the other to respond.
"Nothing Mrs Bailey" Cassie finally responded.
"Really? That's strange as I was sure I could hear some talking coming from back there?" Mrs Bailey asked slowly, becoming unimpressed.
"No Mrs. We've been listening to you the whole time" Rosie lied, a bead of sweat making its way down the side of her face.
"Okay in that case would one of you like to repeat what I just read?" Mrs Bailey responded almost cheerily. For the second time this morning she was not surprised when not a single one of the 4 teens were able to answer her so she just sighed deeply.
"I guess this means I'll be seeing all 4 of you in detention then. Then perhaps you'll learn to pay more attention in my class" Mrs Bailey explained as she resumed her talk.
As Mrs Bailey talked Cassie and Rosie offered each other a sideways glance; neither needed a mirror to know what the other was thinking, both girls had identical expressions, clear annoyance at their new situation - of course they had to go get themselves detention because of 2 of the biggest idiots in that class. Regan and Ronnie on the other hand shared looks of amusement - they were more than pleased that they weren't the only ones going to suffer thanks to Mrs Bailey detentions.
"Guess we'll be seeing you after class then" Regan leaned forward slightly and whispered to Cassie who in turn shot a dark look in Regan direction.
"Yeah can't wait to see you then ladies" Ronnie followed suit as he whispered to Rosie who chose to simply roll her eyes.
Morning quickly blurred into afternoon and soon enough the bell tolled for lunch; the once deserted courtyard of this morning was now a bustle of life - groups of teens as far as the eye could see. Just past the courtyard, to the back of the school, lay the football pitch; a common place to find many of the school's boys, and the occasional girl, playing a game or 2.
The pitch in question was surrounded by a grassy area adorned with flowers and large oak trees that provided a nice, shaded area for students to sit. Currently finding themselves sitting under one of said trees were Cassie and Rosie; with lunch in hand they had set up under the tree and awaited the arrival of the rest of their group.
"I will never understand what people find so enjoyable about running around a field while trying to kick a ball into a giant hole," Cassie complained while taking a bite of her sandwich.
5 '5 Cassie's straight long brown was divided into multiple sections; some flowed down her back, reaching just past the top of her shoulder blades, while other parts weaved around the back of her head in intricate, detailed plait style, held and adorned in place with small black and purple studded orchid clips. Pale freckles adorned her pearlescent skin while blues and greens blended together to form eyes that resembled the majestic Northern Lights.
A black jumper extended all the way down to her hands giving her a fingerless glove appearance; covering it was an orchid sleeveless knee length dress with a beaded blue orchid pattern weaved down the right side and completing the ensemble was a pair of black leggings.
"I don't understand it personally either but considering most of your brothers play football quite frequently I would have thought you'd get some enjoyment from it; especially with as many brothers as you have " Rosie joked lying on her front while picking at her fruit box.
At 5 '0 Rosie had a small beauty mark on her chin, enhanced by her rose gold skin and pale blue eyes that shimmered like tide pools in the moonlight. From underneath her white beret blonde locks flowed, with the occasional mint green streak thrown in; they twisted and turned into tight little ringlets falling directly onto her shoulder blades. A white denim jacket and the grassland she currently lay on covered a mint green, thin strapped top; while a white knee length pleated skirt scrunched up around her black tights.
"It for that exact reason that I never will understand the fascination" Cassie commented darkly "I can not even begin to tell you how many weekends I have had to spend watching grown men squabble over who scored more goals then who" she added with a air of annoyance causing Rosie to giggle.
"I wonder where the others could be; they're awfully late," Rosie asked in an attempt to change the subject; although she did understand part of Cassie's pain as the older sister of 2 younger siblings who both adored football.
"Now that you mention it they do seem to be running later than usual" Cassie remarked, eyes wandering around the masses of student's.
"They had science didn't they before lunch? I know it's on the other side of the school but it doesn't normally take them this long to get here" Rosie commented, eyes also joining the search. Cassie, ignoring the comment, continued scanning the crowds until she finally spotted 3 girls making their way towards the pair. Even at a distance Cassie could make the annoyed expressions of at least 2 of them while the 3rd looked fed up.
"Here they come at 3 o'clock and they don't look happy," Cassie remarked. Rosie immediately turned to the left "That's 9 o'clock Rosie"
Rosie gave a sheepish laugh before turning to the right and spying the unhappy looking girls in question "Oh boy you weren't kidding" she remarked while hoisting herself to sit beside Cassie.
"Well it's about time you guys got here, we were beginning to wonder where you'd gotten to" Rosie commented once the others had arrived in the vicinity of the tree.
"Yeah sorry that we're so late" 16 year old Sarah grumbled plonking herself on the ground to the right of Cassie with a sigh. 5 '6 Sarah, a honey skinned girl with many freckles adorning her cheeks, nose and brow. Rich dark brown eyes like freshly ground coffee synched with long straight dark brown locks, parted into 2 pigtails at the base of her head; each pigtail was held in place with navy blue bows with diamond centres. A navy blue and white striped turtleneck, elbow length jumper covered her top half with a slight flaring on the sleeves and diamond butterfly pattern in the centre. While her lower half was a pair of blue boot cut jeans with the bottoms sporting the same butterfly style pattern as her top.
"I'm not sure if I should, considering the state of your faces at present, but can we ask what happened?" Rosie asked, looking around the group "as whatever it is you guys certainly don't look happy"
"We um…had a slight problem…with our experiment" 16 year old Jessie explained with a tired sigh. If Jessie and Rosie really wanted to, they could fool so many people into believing they were sisters; and if not sisters they could certainly fool people into believing they were related. Both stood at 5 '0 with their rose gold skin and blonde hair but while Rosie had shorter hair due to her curls, Jessie's was long and straight and extended almost to her pelvis. Most of the hair flowed freely except for a single weave that wrapped around the back of her head and was held in place by a string of tiny yellow roses. Royal blue eyes, like polished to perfection sapphires, stared out from behind thin silver framed circular glasses. A long sleeved flared mustard tunic with intricate white lacing along the front adorned her top half; while a simple pair of blue denim effect leggings comprised her lower half.
"What kind of slight problem?" Cassie cautiously asked.
"Well Sarah, being the know-it-all she is, decided she didn't need to read the instructions for the experiment and as result she added too much acid and it blew up" 15 year old Mari explained, clearly irritated. Golden skinned and just shy of 6 '0 Mari easily towered over the others of their little group. Wavy, dirty blonde hair in a bob cut style, with a burnt orange knotted headband framed a pair of black square shaped glasses, with tiny gold trimming, which magnified eyes a warm shade of hazel similarly found on leaves falling on an autumn day. She fiddled with the much too long sleeves of her matching burnt orange knee length flowing cardigan which covered a simple black sleeveless top and parts of her khaki coloured trousers.
"Who are you calling a know-it-all?" Sarah protested angrily "And as I keep telling you it wasn't my fault! I definitely added the right amount of acid! It must have been that metal stuff you added that made it blow up!"
"WHAT?! No way I was following the instructions unlike some people" Mari sniped back.
"Well clearly not accurate enough because the experiment blew up" remarked a sarcastic Sarah.
"And again little miss Know-It-all; it wouldn't have happened if you had just read the instructions on how much acid to add" Mari retorted with just as much sarcasm. Rosie raised an eyebrow as the 2 girls continued their argument between themselves. Sparing a glance to her right revealed a dark look forming on Cassie's face, and if she didn't know any better she'd swear a dark cloud was slowly forming above her friend as she became more and more irritated. A glance to her left on the other hand revealed Jessie, massaging the spot right above her eyes as a headache which was quickly beginning to feel like a migraine raged on.
"So if I'm following correctly your experiment blew up and these 2 can't make their minds up on who's fault it was; does that sound right? Rosie asked Jessie over the argument.
"That about covers it" Jessie nodded "As you can see both sides are just as stubborn and so far neither side is backing down on who's fault it was" she tiredly explained all the while still massaging her head. Rosie shot the girl with a sympathetic glance. "They've been at since it happened and unless a miracle occurs I can't see it ending anytime soon - there too stubborn"
Rosie glanced at the still arguing pair and was about to voice her agreement with Jessie when a sound, almost like thunder in the distance, assaulted her ears.
"Don't worry. Stubborn or not I'd say this argument is going to come to an end sooner than we think" Rosie happily commented, a devilish smirk now adorning her features.
Jessie shot her fellow blonde a bewildered look
"What on earth makes you say that?" She asked clearly confused how Rosie found this whole situation amusing; all she wanted to do right now was bury her head in the sand if it meant she didn't have to listen to this pointless argument any longer.
Rosie continuing smiling at Jessie but proceeded to point to her right side
"Because your miracle is about to happen" She giggled while continuing to point.
Jessie's eyes followed her finger, widening at the sight before them. The dark look of moments ago adorning Cassie's face had seemed to darken by the metaphorical black cloud that now thundered above the girl's head. With narrowed slits, aimed directly at the still arguing girls, the brunette raised her right arm above her head, fist tightly clenched.
"And in 3, 2, 1" Rosie counted under her breath. On the count of 1 and almost sonic speed, Cassie had swung her fist backwards hitting the oak with a thunderous bang; finally halting the waring girls in their tracks. Both now paled considerably under Cassie's murderous eyes.
"Oh good I have your attention" Cassie remarked darkly "Now I'm going to keep this nice and simple, I don't care how your science experiment blew up, I don't even care who was responsible for it blowing up…But if you think that I'm going to sit and listen to you argue over it for the rest of this lunch period then you are sorely mistaken"
"But Cassie" Mari interrupted, stopping in her tracks instantly at the death glare shot her way.
"As I was saying I'm not going to listen to this silly argument any longer so you're going to accept the fact that the experiment blew up, you're going to apologise to each other and we're going to move on. Is that understood?" explained Cassie.
"Do we have a choice in the matter?" Sarah commented sarcastically. Part of her wanted to defend her honour; she hated feeling like people were belittling her, god knows she had enough of that growing up, however an equal part of her did want to move on from this whole ordeal after all it really was just a silly experiment and wasn't worth this much fuss over.
"Of course you do. You can of course choose to carry on with your argument, although, should this be the option you choose I must warn you I can't see it going the way either of you wants it to" Cassie explained, cracking the bones on her hand for added effect. A brief look of fear passed over both girls' faces.
"Okay we get it, we'll stop" Mari agreed with a heavy sigh. Truthfully she was also fed up with this argument; but she was stubborn and had been taught backing down was a sign of weakness and weakness got you nowhere. However while she may not like backing down, getting on Cassie's bad side; well on those occasions she'd rather show weakness then try arguing with her.
"Good now apologise and then perhaps we can enjoy the rest of our lunch" Cassie cheerfully commented, the murderous look vanishing from her eyes as dark clouds evaporated from existence. The girls sighed at the shift in moods but extended the hands of friendship to one another, both relieved they lived to see another day.
Rosie and Jessie on the other hand, who had kept quiet during the whole exchange, spared a glance at each other's faces; Rosie a picture of amusement while Jessie a picture of shock.
"Told you a miracle would happen" Rosie joked while giggling. Jessie, while still in shock, couldn't help but laugh at the whole situation; she'd been trying to placate the argument since it began but had only received a headache for her troubles.
"I guess really I should have seen that coming" Jessie joked sparing a glance at the formerly murderous girl "God she can be scary can't she?" she added while joining in on the giggling
"Yep but seriously would we want her any other way?" Rosie joked as the girls did a good impression of a pair of amused hyenas.
"How come I have to be in goal again?" an exasperated 15 year old Max questioned as he fidgeted nervously in the makeshift goal of bags and coats. While most of the boys who played football took to the football pitch at the back of the school for the big game, others would set up their own individual games throughout the school's large terrain - as long as they didn't play too near any windows the school was happy enough to allow this.
At 4 '7 Max was only just a touch smaller than Ronnie, making him one if not possibly the shortest boy in their year group. Ghost white skin with freckled cheekbones and emerald green eyes, vibrant as fresh grass, stand out behind thin silver frame glasses. A teal wool beanie hat covered the majority of his hair but tiny whiskers of black could be seen poking out from underneath, particularly the forehead area indicating a fringe hidden beneath the hat's layers. A Black elbow length shirt, with top buttons undone, was covered by a teal unzipped, hooded jacket with a large white phoenix emblem on the back and a pair of faded grey jeggings completed the outfit.
"Because it will do you good, you need to toughen yourself up more" Regan explained annoyed when after kicking the ball straight at Max, dodged out of the way "You're not supposed to dodge, you're suppose to stop the ball"
"How will standing here, stopping balls toughen me up exactly?" Max asked nervously while retrieving the runaway ball "And of course I dodged. It was flying straight at me!" he explained as he rolled it back towards Regan.
"It's supposed to fly straight at you, that's the whole point!" Regan angrily explained as he kicked the ball in the air and began doing kick-ups with his knee "And as for how it toughens you up it builds character obviously"
"I fail to see how this builds character?" Max responded, folding his arms across his chest as he watched Regan "There surely must be better ways than this to toughen me up?" He seriously did want to toughen up, but standing there while Regan took shots at him wasn't quite what he had in mind.
"Probably" Regan responded letting the ball fall back to his feet "But you gotta admit this way is certainly entertaining" he explained once again kicking the ball, this time with much more force then before, at Max who dodged with a small girlish squeal. Regan gave a small snigger as Max straightened himself up and fetched the ball
"Well entertaining or not I've had enough" Max retorted as he threw the ball back to Regan, who in turn caught it with ease "It's someone else's turn to go in goal now" he explained in a huff as he went to join Ronnie and the remaining 2 boys of their group had currently had set themselves up against the wall of the schools west wing, near to the teachers car park. Regan sighed but accepted it, personally it was a new record for getting Max to stay in goal as long as he had.
"Well" Regan began as turned to the others, throwing the ball up in the air with one hand before catching it with the other "You heard the man, it's someone else's turn"
"Not me" Ronnie said while holding his hands out in a protective gesture "I'm still bruised all over from last week, I'd rather not add to the collection further thank you. Besides I think I pulled a muscle or something this morning when we were running"
"You mean when you were running" Regan shot back.
"Didn't you have a pulled muscle or some kind of injury last week as well?" Max asked while sitting down to Ronnie's left. He took note of the brief look of panic that flashed in Ronnie's eyes, but it didn't last though as soon enough his usual cheekiness was shining through again.
"Ah well yeah but if you remember I did trip on that kids bag, I mean fancy leaving it in a place where people could fall" Ronnie joked while nervously tasseling his hair. Regan scrunched up his eyebrows, he was aware that Ronnie did get a lot of injuries but Ronnie liked to put it all down to being clumsy. Something about that had never completely struck a chord with Regan, and judging by the wary look from Max he was thinking the same thing. But none of them could ever prove anything so they simply filed the information away and hoped one day they'd get a break.
"Fine then Ronnie's out, how about you Jake?" Regan asked, deciding the best course of action was to move on.
"Not happening; I need to finish this before the end of lunch as it's due next period" 16 year old Jake mumbled from his position hunched over an A3 sketchpad, pen in one hand while the pencil in the other scribbled frantically. 5 '9 Jake just stood shorter than Regan with beige skin, blonde dishevelled shoulder length hair, with a dyed pink section held up in a tiny ponytail and rich, deep brown eyes like pools of melted chocolate. A pink jumper with massively oversized sleeves covered the top part of a pair of blue jeans. The jumper was double layered with a crop style, elbow length black top with a hood covering part; while adorning said top were multiple button badges of various unique designs.
"I thought you finished that last week?" Ronnie curiously asked while trying to take a peek at Jake's sketchbook, only for it to be moved out of his eyeline by a glaring Jake.
"He did" Max responded "And then he decided he didn't like it, so he did again. But then he decided he didn't like the 2nd drawing either and hence here we are on his 3rd attempt"
"Seriously but there was nothing wrong with the first 1; it was really good, amazing in fact" Regan retorted, also trying to get a glance at the elusive sketchbook but also failing.
"Good isn't good enough" Jake exclaimed angrily, continuing to scribble furiously "It didn't look anything like it should have looked; it needs to look exactly right or it's not good enough"
Regan exchanged wary glances with both Max and Ronnie, clearly they were all thinking the same thing right now but this was common for Jake, he always was too hard on himself.
"If you say so Jake then okay; but seriously you're really talented and I've never seen one of your drawings that isn't amazing" complemented Regan, while once again throwing the ball up in the air with one hand and catching it with the other.
"Regan's right Jake, and seriously if I'm saying that then you know it's true" agreed Ronnie "I mean after all, when is Regan ever right about something" he added, earning a loud snicker from Max and a look of prue disdain from Regan.
"You're lucky you're injured right now" Regan muttered darkly, clenching the ball for added effect.
Ronnie gave a mock gasp "Regan you wouldn't hurt me would you?" he asked.
"I'm certainly considering it!" Regan muttered irritatedly "Especially if you make any more of those kinds of remarks"
"Who are you trying to fool Regan?" Jake asked as to his left Ronnie pretended to shy away, making out he was hurt by Regan remarks "We all know you wouldn't hurt a fly" he added smiling a wicked glint, his artwork now forgotten about.
"He's got a point Regan; you may present yourself tough on the outside, but deep down we all know you're just a big softie" Max added gleefully causing the others to laugh loudly; which only grew when it became obvious of a slight tint of pink dusting Regan cheeks.
"One more remark along those lines and I'll make it so you're in goal for the rest of the school year" Regan muttered as threateningly as he could although not sure if it was achieving the desired effect, especially considering how embarrassed he looked and felt right now. But it did seem to do the trick as Max immediately stopped giggling.
"...What's all the noise about?" 15 year old Alex grumbled with a yawn as he evalated himself into a sitting position on Jake's right side. At 5 '4 Alex stood literally centre in terms of height amongst their group; golden skin matched glowing amber eyes that burned as bright as sun from behind grey squared lenses, while long black hair, partially covered by a dark grey bucket hat, was loosely tied in a low ponytail sat just past his lower shoulder blades. A dark grey sleeveless puffer jacket covered a burgundy coloured turtleneck jumper and a pair of matching dark grey shorts covered a pair of black leggings.
"You haven't been asleep this whole time have you Alex?" Ronnie asked, having stopped laughing long enough to form a sentence.
"Do you really need to ask that?" Jake retorted before Alex could get a word in edgeways "This is Alex we're talking about, if he's not doing something then you can guarantee he'll be asleep" he added before returning back to scribbling away in his sketchbook.
"Hey what's that supposed to mean?" Alex indignantly asked.
"Exactly what I just said" Jake quipped back without sparing a glance from his sketchbook "You're about the only person I know who can sleep through just about anything"
"Oh come on; I'm not that bad" Alex responded while stretching his arms out above his head with a yawn.
"Alex; you fell asleep standing up this morning" Max added which caused looks of confusion from Regan and Ronnie.
"I can hardly be blamed for that; you and Jake were just taking too long and besides I was conserving my energy" Alex explained with somewhat ease, as if the explanation was so simple that he couldn't understand why they were struggling to follow.
"Conserving your energy for what exactly?" a confused Regan asked.
"More sleep obviously" Jake quipped earning a glare from Alex and chuckles from Regan, Ronnie and Max. Choosing to ignore Jake's comments for now Alex eyed up his remaining friends.
"Anyway I notice no one has answered my question; what was all the noise about early? Something clearly tickled you guys?" Alex asked, he couldn't help but notice Regan had withdrawn slightly in on himself.
"Oh nothing much; Ronnie insulted Regan so Regan threatened to hurt him" Max started to explain but stopped when Alex started laughing.
"Seriously? We are talking about our Regan here right?" Alex managed out between laughs, completely ignoring the annoyed blonde in favour of the grinning Ronnie and nods from Jake and Max.
"I was deadly serious about my threat early, and anymore remarks of that nature and Ronnie won't be the only one on the receiving end" Regan threatened or at least attempted to threaten but it was difficult when all 4 of his friends knew him too well.
"Come one Regan, we all know you couldn't do a thing to hurt someone - you're just too kind hearted really, even if it's buried under a deep exterior" Alex explained to the once again blushing Regan.
"So deep in fact sometimes we often have to wonder if we need mining equipment to find it" Ronnie commented sarcastically, earning full belly laughs from all but Regan, who was now doing a very good impression of a ripe tomato.
"Sometimes I wonder why I have friends?" Regan mumbled under his breath as he gripped the ball tightly in embarrassment while the other 4 continued to roar with laughter.
