Another party.
I feel like every weekend someone's throwing a party for no reason. It's just an excuse to drink alcohol. But in this case, Billy is celebrating his birthday. Billy is a friend of mine, so of course I'm here.
Billy is a lot like Dan in a way. They both have idiotic moments, but they also care about the people they like. Billy and I don't have a special bond or something like that, but we do care about each other as friends, of course.
But I have a feeling, that Billy likes Jules.
I've already noticed him staring at her a couple of times now. And whenever Julie asks for something, he's always the first person to go for it. Honestly, if Julie would just forget about Dan, she and Billy would be a cute couple.
But Julie is too stubborn – she just can't get over her crush on Dan.
As much as I love Jules, Dan doesn't seem to be interesting in her. She even went on a date with some random kid from our school, named Robby testing if Dan would get jealous, but Dan really didn't care.
"Hey, guys!" I approach Daniel, Ace and some silver haired dude. I've seen this kid around the school, but I never knew his name. "Mind if I join you?"
"Sure, kid!" the annoying brunette replies. "Runo, this is Ren. Ren, this strange lookin girl is Runo. She has a bit of a temper, so watch what you say around her."
I first shook Ren's hand with a smile. Dan is gonna get it later, he'll see. "Nice to meet you, Ren. Don't listen to him, he's only jealous because I have genuine respect for other boys and not him."
"Don't worry. I know how Dan's like…" he chuckles as I gave Dan the biggest smirk.
I pointed down, telling Dan to go down to my height, since he's a head taller than me. He did and I whisper in his ear: "You'll gonna get it later, mister."
He looks at me, I don't really know how to describe his emotion. He then goes to my ear. "I need to talk to you about something."
"You sound serious…"
He shakes his head. "It's not that serious. I just need to talk to you." I stare at him for a second, searching for any emotion. I wonder what he wants to talk about. I then just nod, agreeing to meet him later.
"So, guys…" I start up the conversation again. "What did you get Billy for his birthday?"
"I got him the latest Call of Duty…" Ace answers first.
"We should definitely play it as soon as possible." Ren comments. Uhh, boys. "I got him a game as well."
"I got him tickets to the Lakers game." Dan says as Ace and Ren both look at him like they've seen a ghost. What's wrong with these boys, Jesus… they're just basketball tickets.
"You for real, Dan?" Ace manage to say that, still quite shocked. I roll my eyes at him.
Dan nods. "He always wanted to go, so I got him that. I gave him two tickets, so you boys better start kissing his ass."
"You serious?" Dan nods with a smirk. They glanced at each other, then Ace asked: "Where is Billy?"
"Probably with Julie." Dan responds.
"Wait… she might get the extra ticket because he likes her." Ace says to Ren.
"I don't think Julie would agree on that – she's not a basketball fan." I say to them, hopefully to give them more hope.
"There might still be a chance…" Ren half-whispers to himself. "Guys, I'm gonna get another drink. Be right back."
As he walks away, I look at Ace, who didn't realize that Ren was actually going to find Billy and get that extra ticket. "Ace?" He looks at me. "You know that Ren didn't actually go to get a drink, right?" He just blank stares at me, which make me chuckle a bit. "Go find Billy and get that extra ticket." He quickly nods and hurries to find the blond birthday boy.
"Why did you tell him?" Dan asks me.
"I actually like and respect Ace." I reply, not forgetting what he said about me to Ren.
Dan just laughs at off and takes a sip of his drink, which he has been holding. "Let's go outside."
I nod and follow him to the main door. We sit on the chairs, which are on the front porch. I stared at the brunette as he pulls a joint and a lighter from his jacket pocket.
Wait, Dan smokes?!
"You smoke, Daniel?"
He looks at me, surprised at my reaction. "It calms me." He takes it in between his lips and lights it up. He takes the first drag and smoke slowly leaves his lips. "You wanna?"
"I don't know, it's been a while since I last tried…" I reply. I'm not the biggest fan of smoking, but I don't judge people who choose to smoke. It's their business.
"I'm not gonna force you." He says while taking another drag.
"You shouldn't be smoking. It's bad for your health."
"Okay, mom." He mockingly responds. I just gave him a fake angry look. Not gonna lie, I did sound like an old nag.
"So, what did you wanna tell me?"
"Oh, about that…" he started. "You know there's gonna be the school dance in few weeks…" I nod. "You going with anyone?"
I shake my head. "Nah, I guess no one wants to go with me."
"That's not true."
"Yes, it is. No one asked me, yet Alice and Julie got asked by so many guys…"
"You're gonna hate me for this…" Dan interrupts as he throws the joint's filter somewhere after finishing it. That fucker, no thought about the environment whatsoever. He noticed my shocking look. "What?"
"You're gonna pick that up, right?"
He rolls his eyes as he picks it up and throws it in the nearest trashcan. "Happy now?"
I gave him a genuine smile and just nodded my head.
"I swear you're actually 50, trapped in a 16-year old's body." He makes a mocking comment. How dare he? "As I was saying, before I was rudely interrupted…"
"How can I hate you more than I already do right now…" I fire back.
"The reason no one's asking you, because I already told many guys that you're going to the dance… with me."
The nerve. The audacity. "What? Why would you do that, idiot?"
"Because you are going to the dance with me."
"Did you ask me?" He just shakes his head. "Then I'm not going to the dance with you."
"Are you serious? Will it kill you to just go without making a big fuss." He argues back. He didn't even ask me; he decided for me.
"Why didn't you ask me, idiot?"
"You would say no, duh." He responds.
"That's not true…" I whisper, even though he's right. Julie, girl code, Julie, girl code, Julie, Julie, Julie…
"Oh, it is." He fires back, while staring at me with those big beautiful reddish-brown eyes. "You honestly don't see it?"
"See what?"
"Forget it…" He just turns around; he's getting upset with me. What the hell is going on?
"See what, Dan?" I repeat. He turns his head back to me, he seems calmer.
I'm not stupid. I know what he's trying to say.
Stupid Julie, stupid girl code.
There! I said it!
It's obvious he's trying to spend most of his free time with me. I've noticed him waiting for me when I have my cheerleading practice. Sometimes even for an hour.
He studies with me at our town's biggest library. Shun told me, he never did that before he met me. He waits for me in front of the cafeteria so we can find our friends. Together. Ever since he got his driver's license, he picks me up and drops me off, so I don't take the school bus.
He likes me. You don't have to spell it out for me.
And I… I like him.
Hello, there!
It's been a long time, I know.
I've made some minor changes to this story. I've reread it and found some mistakes (some grammar mistakes, details that weren't adding up etc.)
I can't promise you when I'm going to upload the next chapter, because exam season is coming.
But what I will say is this story is one to two chapters away from officially becoming Rated M.
Happy holidays!
