One Simple World
Chapter 19: Unavoidably Simple
Angel's Point of View:
I almost felt pity for the girl who laid in a heap of broken bones and blood before us.
On the other side of the judgement hall, Chara coughed, hacking up blood from the power of one single chain I used to send out against her. It was honestly rather hard not to go all out against her for what she's done, nor the rage I felt in my being.
Sans I knew felt the same way as he stood beside me. Honestly, I think the fact that we held onto one another was the only reason we didn't lash out at the girl. The tight grip we had on each other was about all that kept us rooted, though I doubted that would prevent Sans' from teleporting if the need arose.
Granted, we wanted to. We wanted to hurt her. Even with all that had happened, knowing who she was, and what she'd gone through, it didn't excuse what she'd done. And it appeared she knew of it too. She readily openly admitted to her sins, she didn't even deny them. Asgore and Asriel watched on from a distance as we faced her, and I knew this hurt them both. She was a person they both treasured, but we warned them not to approach until we had her subdued.
She shouldn't be forgiven for what she did. Even if her heart was in the right place under all the trauma she went through.
And the spirits attached to me, they were no better. Undyne especially was the taunting type as she approached, still attached to me with her armor clad as she kneeled down beside the broken body of Chara as she tried to heal, seeing the impending doom approaching her.
"Not so tough when you're on your own... ain't cha?" Undyne glared right down at her, gleaming in the torment that was appearing in her eyes. Not once did she touch her, even as Chara attempted to crawl away. "What? Ya not even gonna face me? Or face them?"
It was evident to see that Chara was healing as quickly as she could just to get her legs working to get her out of the room. We waited those agonizing minutes as Chara managed to get back to her feet and darted for the open windows of the judgement hall to escape, to find some way to get away from us.
"Heh." The dead laugh that came from Sans sounded horrible. I'm sure he was pained so much by this. He hated fighting, but his rage, his fury, it trumped all in the moment. And neither of us were going to be letting her get away. With the raising of his free hand, it glowed a thick blue that grabbed Chara's soul. She didn't have the same magic as us, while it was determination based, it was some kind of mutation that made weapons instead of chains. She truly relied on Frisk when they were bound, and without her, she was incredibly weak.
She needed someone else to be strong, or to even have a fighting chance.
Her soul was yanked back along with her body back toward us, Chara couldn't help but scream as she was held in the air, right before us. She looked at the two of us, and her facial expression was a combination of determination and fear. She was fighting with all of her willpower. It was too bad. I'm sure she would have been quite the friend or ally if she didn't go down that horrid path.
"Nah, uh, uh." Sans wiggled his finger before her, the mad grin on his face glowed as he slowly leaned in. "Didn't think ya'd be runnin' away so soon, didja?"
The souls attached to me moved then. While Sans and I blocked off the throne chamber behind me where Asgore and Asriel waited, those of the seven souls attached to me scattered and stood before so many of the windows, preventing her from escaping. Many of them looking down at her with infuriated eyes, and even her mother couldn't hold back some of her scorn.
"My child... I wish those horrible things didn't happen to you... but what you have done is wrong." Toriel I could feel was struggling to hold back her tears. Her eyes glowed and fire surrounded us all, making any narrow opening around Chara closed off from escape without getting burned. The flames were so hot that even I was feeling the heat through the protection of my chains. Something I spread to Sans to give him some extra shielding as well. "Killing me seemed natural. Especially how I wasn't there for you how I should have been, but this cannot be condoned... You have taken so many of the monster people's lives... I... I can't not forgive you."
"There's no reason to be easy on her, Toriel." Carefully my voice rang out as chains came to life around me. Chara watched on as they covered my body like a second skin before pulling away and moving toward her. "She's admitted she needs to die. She knows she's a killer and not worthy of it. No matter what happens, she's not leaving this room. The hall of judgement shall be her final grave."
"Fancy... words..." Chara blurted out slowly from where she was held before us by Sans' magic. She was still slowly healing herself as she was held before us. "I'm not... dead yet..."
"Very true." I commented slowly while a chain of mine wrapped around her ankle. "Let's see how long that lasts. Shall we?"
Sans dropped Chara to the ground. The girl hit the marble floor hard, some of her blood splattered on the floor. She coughed as her soul was released and she could breath, if only for a moment before her body was hurled away from us. With the chains wrapped around her ankle, Chara screamed as she was hurled away into one of the walls nearby. Smashed between two open windows, Chara's bones snapped and crunched under the pressure. My chain released her, only for Sans to yank her back inside. It was evident to see as she was struggling in our grip that she was healing herself. Slowly, but she was. Trying to hold on as long as she could.
"Precious... not sure I can last as long as ya can..." Sans breathed out heavily, and his magic actually taking physical form as he stood there, breathing out plumes of dark blue smoke.
"That's true, Darling... We've held onto this fury so long... I'm not sure how much longer even I can hold it." The chains around me began to spark in their movement, friction on each other, causing heat and electricity. "We only did this once together in our old life, when destroying Silke, right?"
Sans couldn't respond to me as a maniacal grin sat on his face, locked into place while that of his magic that seeped from his skulled moved to the space before us. It swirled and condensed before the blue smoke became bone. The bones protruded sharply as a reptilian shaped skull came into view, slowly shifting and growing before a dragon skull floated before us. The same glowing eyes as Sans' showed, oozing the very magic that poured from his being. Like a faucet that could no longer hold what was inside it. It was gushing, oozing, overflowing.
Sans had all the experience of his past life with the youthfulness of his secondary one.
It was the same for myself as my chains darted forward, curling around the skull that floated before us. It screeched, its deafening cry cracking the walls around us. The two magics flowed together before entirely encasing the dragon skull. Its eyes glowed brightly in a purple hue that glared down at Chara before it. She rolled over onto her back, staring up at the looming danger above her with the knife in hand, ready to strike.
"Let's take out those limbs of hers." I commented, eyes still focused on the girl before us. "So she can't move anymore."
"Angel! Stop! Please!"
I could barely hear the voices behind me of Asgore and Asriel as they came charging out. I was so wrapped up in what Sans and I were doing, we hardly notice them come in close. I felt the large arms grabbing us, attempting to pull us away, but I was rooted to the ground, as was Sans. Asgore couldn't move us.
"Come on you two! Stop it!" Asriel came in on Sans' side to try and stop him, even if our eyes wouldn't be separated from our prey. "She can't move even with her limbs! Come back to your senses!"
"H-hey... A-angel? S-sans?" A third voice broke through the air, though it was hardly noticeable. "K-kill me p-please..."
That was the comment that brought me back to my senses.
Blinking, and letting the red slowly fade from my vision, my eyes cast over to that of the broken body of Chara. I was so focused on putting her down slowly that I didn't even see how her body was crumbling. Broken bones were already scattered all over, her limbs didn't even look like they were in the right positions. Some of them I could see bone protruding from them.
A rather gruesome sight for what was my sister's body at one point.
"Can... can you two kill me? Please?"
Witch's Note:
Well now-
Mystic Girl: Holy shit! The bitch is almost dead and you fucking pull this over our heads!? She wants to die now? What the fuck?
Me: Easy Sis, you knew this was coming. I know it makes you mad but I didn't think it would ruffle your feathers this bad. What's going on?
Mystic Girl: Are you fucking kidding me? Chara has been the biggest pain in our asses, killed hundreds of people from the underground, people that we loved, and you have the gall to have us end up at this point right here where she finally begs for death? Excuse me if I hate the thought. Especially since she was still so high and mighty just moments ago, and in the last chapter too, even when-
Me: I get it! Easy, careful you might spike your blood pressure and give yourself a problem. Breathe. Come on now, breathe with me. In the nose, out the mouth. Let me hear it.
Mystic Girl: (Scowling) Seriously?
Me: Come on, Mystic. I only do it cuz I care. Breathe.
Mystic Girl: I'm breathing… I'm fucking breathing…
Me: Good, okay, let's try this again. Your upset with the sudden change in behavior of Chara, yes?
Mystic Girl: Fucking duh.
Me: Let's talk about this then in a reasonable fashion. Yes, Chara has been our main antagonist the entire time of this book, killing many. But you've also seen the broken soul under it all, yes? The subtle changes and guilt that she has shown at times, yes? And how about her behavior once she realized she'd lost Frisk and was on her own to face honestly the most powerful pair in the underground? The only other ones I'd say that would similar level would be Asgore and Toriel, but since Toriel died and basically almost let herself be killed by the pair, that's a huge weakness.
Mystic Girl: Okay… you show a few points, so?
Me: Think about it, Chara was only able to get as far as she could because of Frisk. She was only able enact the killings, have access to healing magic that she'd never had before, and defenses that were beyond her wildest dreams with Frisk and her together. Chara had an offensive strange type of magic, almost a combination of Terians and Masato magic. Frisk was the defense, unwillingly. And the healing as well. Frisk did have knowledge of it which Chara was able to access due to memories and using Frisk's body. As far as we know, Chara was never able to do that before. She's never noted it so its something we can only guess at without proof.
Mystic Girl: Okay… so let me try to get this straight, you mean she finally understands that she has no hope of winning? Is that what you're trying to play off to me?
Me: That would be a highly well-educated guess. We won't know Chara's exact reasonings until we get to the final chapter next week. But its very likely. You saw how even while restraining themselves, most likely to be considerate to the only remaining building still standing in the capitol, and to Asgore and Asriel's safety, our favorite pair of older siblings barely had to do anything to Chara to knock her down. Meanwhile, many of their friends and family who were highly trained, also had knowledge of previous lives, and so forth, were killed with ease, using their knowledge and feelings against them?
Mystic Girl: Damn, I hate it and love it when you make a solid point. I can see it. Though its still frustrating.
Me: Of course it is! It hasn't been easy writing this story, nor playing a villain. I hope I did well with it, showing that life of a broken child who came from a broken home, who wanted revenge for being treated wrongly. Villains never know that they are villains, they believe what their doing is right. They are not born, they are created. Chara is at least aware of her wrong reasons for how she's going about it, but feels she has to not only for herself, but for other lives as well. Perhaps under it all there was some guilt for killing others. She constantly was saying how she only needed one soul to complete her task. It was like a mantra. We also never got to see if she would be true to her word, since Frisk fought her so badly to prevent her from getting souls.
Mystic Girl: As she should! I wouldn't let the bitch do that! And after all! Frisk is just like me! (She stands proudly with hands on hips at the declaration.)
Me: I know, I know. But things are gonna change a lot, and we have work to do as we approach the end and get to our final book.
Mystic Girl: (A bright gleam to her eyes as she looked excited.) OH! Do we get to talk about it now? Can we? Can we?
Me: Well, I don't want to spoil too much, but I did say I would reveal some things as we got to the final chapter. Chapter nineteen was the mark for me to start talking, as the finale is next week. So… I can finally reveal that someone a long time ago actually guessed correctly for the final book's plot line, and that lucky person was Chaos.
Mystic Girl: I was so fucking excited when he did this! I couldn't believe how early he got it too!
Me: It may have been wishful thinking at the time since we were so deep into the suffering, but regardless he was right. I'm sure everyone will do their research to find out what was said all that time ago, and will confirm it exactly in next week's final so I don't spoil too many of the final moments.
Speaking of-
Mystic Girl: Reviews!
Thechaosmaster: We really do want to congratulate you for mentioning the plot line of the next book first, I know, it's been a long time since we talked about it, but you mentioned it so early that Mystic Girl and I were too stunned for words. I literally 'couldn't say anything', and that was all Mystic Girl and I could actually say to each other for days.
Mystic Girl: It was fucking hilarious! Wish you could've been there. Halloween was like a fish out of water with a giant 'o' on her face that didn't go away for hours! And all she could say to me was "I can't say anything, what the fuck do I say?!"
Me: Very true, and you were entirely right about Chara getting curb stomped. She had nothing anymore, no defenses, a very little healing as she had to go by the memories of Frisk and what Frisk's body remembered, so it was a struggle for her. As far as we can tell, Chara had no healing magic. That all came from Frisk.
Mystic Girl: Jesus, did she serious have no other magic or try to branch out?
Me: Remember, if it didn't attribute to her goal of killing her family, no.
Mystic Girl: True…
Me: But… I'm curious if you feel the same about the ending of this chapter as Mystic Girl does or if you and Red have different feelings on it, and try not to fight too much you two, we have to prepare for the finale party once more!
MysticBoywastaken: Oh my dear, I'm not done with Chara yet. But I will say this… because next chapter, everything will become far more clear, but I believe one of your wishes will come true. If you find what Chaos had said for the final story's plot line, I promise you'll understand. I think you'll be thrilled.
Shadow8Phantom: Correct on all accounts as normal Shadow, no mercy to be seen. A recent phrase that I've rather loved is "fuck around and find out." Its rather fitting and lovely though, isn't it? As we come closer to the end with a surprise twist, what will happen in the final chapter? I'm curious to see what you piece together. The pieces are nearly aligned, and won't take much to assemble this one-thousand shattered pieces puzzle I've attempted to craft.
midnightwreken: Oh that final chapter is coming my dear, with a lot of twists and turns and heartache and questions…
So here we go! The finale is next week folks! I'm eager for it, are you?
Mystic Girl: I fucking am! I can't wait until you finally get to talk about our final story. And it is going to be the last one right?
Me: I said so, I'm sticking to it, and I'm not doing any other Undertale books for a long while. I promise.
Mystic Girl: I really hope you're being honest here. I love our stories, but you can only stick with the same thing for so long!
Me: Oh, I know, I promise this will be the final story after we finish One Simple World. Besides, I don't lie! Not about writing!
Mystic Girl: So, you're admitting you lie about other things?
Me: Jesus Christ! Go on! Get! I need to get back to work and you're not helping!
Mystic Girl: Fine…
Love you all and see you next week!
