Mirajane and Macbeth hovered over the other side of the chair. "There's definitely a spell on the chair," Mirajane said. "But we only know that from searching meticulously."
Cobra hummed softly. The spell on the chair was faint; faint enough that he didn't doubt everyone who came through didn't give it a second thought sitting down. Whoever did this spell was a genius–a mad one at that.
Being as dark as it was, he still wasn't sure if moving the chair outside to examine it more thoroughly was a wise choice. Before he could decide whether to bring it up, Cobra glanced over at Lucy and saw her squinting.
"What are you looking at?" he asked, trying to see where she was looking. They were both positioned near the back of the chair, and he could tell Lucy was looking at a particular spot on it. Lucy put a hand to her chin in thought.
"Is it just me or…is something attached to this?"
Cobra took a half step closer, leaning his head in for a better view. His single eye picked up nothing unusual…aside from Lucy's proximity, which was slowly causing him to sweat. The celestial mage didn't appear flustered at all, instead leaning even farther to peer at the spot.
"Yes…I swear I can see something right…here." Lucy reached a finger down to a point in the middle of the air. Cobra still saw nothing…until she plucked something. A thin line vibrated in place for a second. Cobra's eye went wide. It was a string. A nearly invisible string, hanging in the air. No, not hanging, he corrected, looking back. It was a string tied to the back end of the chair they were so concerned about. "I thought something was off…"
"Hey, what did you just say about not touching anything?" Cobra said, realizing that he was, mostly, genuinely concerned. He thought he saw a hint of blush form on Lucy's face in the dark.
"I said don't do anything stupid which…ok, maybe that was a little stupid."
"Lucy!" Mirajane butted in, kneeling. She squinted herself, trying to see the string. "You found something! How did you spot it?"
"I'm…not quite sure myself…I was looking all around the chair and thought I noticed a…shimmer, I suppose? Near the bottom. When I tilted my head, it looked like something was on the chair itself. I wanted to make sure it wasn't a trick of the light. And it feels…odd."
"Now that I see it I can feel it too. Let me touch it."
"Wait," Macbeth said, sidling up to Mirajane on the ground. "Let me do it first, see if it's safe." Cobra tried not to roll his eyes at Macbeth's attempt to pretend to be noble. "I have more experience than anyone else here on tracking magic." Well, that was true, but still.
