Chapter 13

"So, what did you two get out of Caitlin Williams?" Captain Benson asked as she, Elliot, and George reentered the bullpen a little while later.

"I'm not sure how we can tie her to Dylan but she's certainly got her demons," Detective Klass spoke up from her borrowed desk.

"Part of what took us so long was because she was trying to evade our questions. Honestly, she didn't seem completely sober either," Fin said as he stood up from his chair.

"No slip ups though, huh?" Elliot was surprised, especially if the woman wasn't sober.

"That's why I said that. She was either trying to fake that she wasn't sober or she was just sober enough to try and play games. We could have used you Doc," Fin explained.

"Akiko said that Caitlin was an odd one. She likes to turn people against each other," Olivia said.

"So, what do we know?" George headed to the board. They all turned their attention to him and what he had to say.

"We know that Akiko and the others in her friend group had had enough of Caitlin and her antics. We also know that Caitlin was asking Akiko about Betty. At which point, Akiko tells her that she'd had enough and she doesn't want to see her anymore.

"Fin and Klass go there and she tries to play with them – despite the fact that she knows they are police and that they are obviously there for a reason. Everything to her is a game. She pushes and pulls and sees how far or how long it takes before someone breaks," George told them.

"Funny how she didn't mention asking Akiko about Betty," Fin gave Klass a look.

"Probably because Betty could smell her a mile away. That look she got on face, it wasn't because she liked her," Klass shook her head and petted the loyal dog, who was sitting next to her chair.

"What did she say about Akiko?" George was very interested to know.

"Well, she called her a bitch for starters but then tried to say that they'd just had a fight and that she'd come around. That maybe she'd visit her at the hospital," Fin said.

"I told her that she's not allowed to have visitors and that if she showed up, she'd find an armed guard to turn her away. That cooled her heels but she turned on a dime. I hate to say it but we could be looking at some sort of master manipulator. I mean we could see right through her but the average everyday person?" Klass shook her head. George pointed to her.

"Exactly so. Dylan is not an everyday person though, is he?" The forensic psychiatrist asked.

"Dylan has some sort of unresolved rage issues. He was very angry at me and Jared when we arrested him and he was very angry when he was convicted despite the DNA results and the fact that the victim picked him out of a line up. She was one hundred percent sure it was him. Heck we even had video of the idiot following her out of the bar," Klass explained.

"So not your criminal mastermind huh?" George asked.

"Fiona Hurley called him a predator. Dylan's mother drank herself to death," Olivia reminded them.

"There's a chance that he's committed assaults in the past and not gotten caught. How'd you get his DNA?" George wanted to know.

"He wasn't in the system – well technically he was, as a juvenile, so no DNA though. We followed him and got it off a cup he threw out at a burger joint," Klass told them.

"His rage was at getting caught. Up until this point he'd been getting away with almost everything. I would imagine that anything he'd been charged with as a juvenile wasn't that serious – as far as having his sentence carried out in a transfer to an adult prison," George figured.

"Fiona said that Dylan's mother never wanted to admit what a monstrosity he was. That she couldn't handle everyone finding out that he was a predator," Olivia shook her head.

"So, family secrets. We need to talk to Fiona again," George said.

"First thing in the morning, you and me," the Captain told him.

"Me and Klass are relieving Bruno and Velasco?" Fin asked her. Olivia nodded.

"We need to see what Dylan's boss says. I'll head over there while you're at Fiona's," Elliot spoke up.

"Excellent. All right everyone, I appreciate all your hard work. We need to find out how or if Caitlin knows Dylan. It's quite possible that this was all Dylan but…" Olivia shook her head.

"The halfway house doesn't allow computers in individual rooms. The residents have to share two computers in the main activity room and the activity is monitored. Someone set up that Sugar Babyz account and someone hacked Akiko's Facebook page," Elliot said.

"Maybe we'll get lucky with the surveillance then," Klass smiled at them.
