Chapter 20
"How long until his lawyer gets here?" Olivia asked.
"At least another half an hour," Fin told her. The Sergeant and Elliot had gone into the Captain's office after Dylan lawyered up. She sat behind her desk and the detectives sat in front of it.
"You believe him?" Thies question from the Captain was directed to George, who had been listening in on the interview. The forensic psychiatrist has chosen to sit on the couch.
"If he does still have rage issues, he's hiding them well. Those issues may have dissipated while trying to stay alive in prison. No longer the big man on campus, so to speak, would make you change to avoid trouble, especially if any of your fellow inmates found out about your crimes," George started.
"Do you think that Caitlin really scared him?" Elliot asked.
"Not necessarily, but as some psychopaths have noted when interviewed, they can tell when they're in similar company," George said.
"Game recognizes game, kind of," Fin said.
"Yes. It's quite possible that he's using Caitlin's irrational anger to cover his own. If he remains cool and calm and tries to portray being normal then he can better blend in. Prison would have helped him learn this," George admitted.
"Great," Olivia heaved a sigh. There was a knock on the office door and she bade the person to enter.
"Captain, we found the bar," Bruno told her upon entering the room.
"What did the bartender have to say?" Olivia wanted to know.
"He says that Caitlin closed the bar down. Dylan left at eight-forty-five," Velasco chimed in.
"So, Dylan was telling the truth," Elliot said.
"It gets weirder. The bartender said that he saw them a couple of times but they stuck out because Dylan would always leave really early, you know for an evening bar crowd and for a younger guy. Then one night he and Caitlin got into an argument and Dylan left. He hasn't seen Dylan since," Bruno filled in.
"Caitlin has been lying then. You think that Dylan will flip on her?" Fin wondered.
"I think we have to have more than just a felon's word if we're taking this to court," Olivia heaved a sigh. Her cell phone rang and she quickly answered it,
"Benson." Elliot couldn't help but smirk. Some things never changed. Although he was hoping that they'd be able to actually spend time together tonight. Her voice cut through his thoughts,
"What?" That made everyone take notice.
"I'm on my way," was the end of the phone call.
"Elliot, with me. Velasco, call forensics and tell them to get out to Eliza's address. Fin, Bruno, when Dylan's lawyer gets here, nail him down. We're running out of time to catch Caitlin," Olivia told them.
"What happened?" Velasco asked.
"Klass took Eliza home. She was concerned that Eliza wasn't in a good head space. There was a spray-painted message on her living room wall," the Captain said, flinging on her coat.
"What was the message?" Bruno wanted to know.
"You're next," Olivia told them.
